I absolutely loved this book! I have been on a roll lately with reading some fantastic books in the past month, and Miles From Kara was no exception. It is a fantastic, new adult book that deals with serious life issues but still has lots of steamy romance as well. Kara is a college student at the College of Charleston in South Carolina. Readers meet her in the first book of the series, Pieces of Olivia. However, in this book, we learn she isn’t the carefree girl she seems to be. Something that happened in her past continues to hold her in an emotional limbo. She wants to be able to find that girl she was before her life hit a major roadblock. She is in a relationship with her boyfriend, Ethan, that is seriously lacking passion and feeling. The only time she feels anything is when Ethan’s hot roommate, Colt, is around. Will she continue her dead end relationship with Ethan or give Colt a chance? ***Before you think that cheating is involved, breathe easy, there isn’t.***

There was so many great things about this book that made it a 5 star read for me. First, it was incredibly well-written. The characters were well-developed. The way in which they were written drew you to them; I felt incredibly connected to them, even the secondary characters. They were a tight group of friends that sort of formed their own family. They accepted each other despite all their flaws. Kara was an incredibly strong young woman. Yes, she had her flaws, and at times, you really wanted to knock some sense into her and ask her, “What the heck are you doing?” But, she had to make some bad decisions in order for her to heal and be able to live again. And, OMG…Colt is one of the hottest guys ever!!!! He has an awesome body, tattoos, a good heart, and to top it off, an Australian accent. Could there be a more perfect guy???? He and Kara seem to share the same soul…they are just beautiful together even when things are bumpy for them. May I add…I just love Rose, the psychologist!!!!This woman is hilarious. I hope she will get her own book!!!!!

One of the other big reasons this gets a 5 star rating is the serious issues that are in the book. I don’t want to really discuss what they are because I don’t want to ruin anything for those who haven’t read this series yet. All I will say is Melissa handles it beautifully. She highlights every side about it and does it without being judgmental. My hope that someone who has gone through something similar will find hope and love in this book….because that is what the crux of the book is for me….hope, love, and new beginnings.

I initially was attracted to Melissa West’s books because they are set in the lovely town of Charleston, SC, which is also the town I grew up in. But, they are much more. There is steamy romance with hot chemistry between the characters, but it is much deeper than that! In both books, she tackles some tough subjects. I love stories that bring out emotions and make me look at my own convictions about issues. If you want to read a story that makes you feel and connect you with the characters, give this series a try. I am anxiously awaiting the next book in the series!

Scarred is a story about a troubled young girl who suffers almost unbearable loss beginning at a young age. She loses someone very important to her and finds herself numbing the pain through meaningless sex and drug abuse. The story begins in 1991 and ends in 2012. It chronicles her life through its highs and lows, and she does have her share of lows, but she always manages to pick herself up and go on. When she is just getting out of high school, she meets a young cop, Gavin. The two begin a hot affair, but Jordan isn’t ready for commitment yet, so she runs. However, Gavin isn’t about to give up on Jordan. Will they ever find their HEA?

Scarred had so much potential to be a 5 star read. It addresses some very important issues, such as loss and drug abuse. It is done in a very raw, realistic way, but I felt like parts of the story were rushed. I do realize that it is a book that takes place over a long period of time. However, I think it would have been better if there was more detail during the important parts of her life. There was a good bit of time described when she is undergoing treatment for her addiction. In my opinion, more time should have been taken in detailing her relationship with Gavin since he plays such a big role in the book. With all that said, Jordan was a character readers will not soon forget. There are times I didn’t really like her because of the choices she made, but other times, I loved her. She has a tenacity and determination not many people have especially when life knocked her down as many times as it did.

I will be reading the next book because it is from Gavin’s point of view. So, I am curious to see their relationship from his perspective. He really does love her, and I hope they finally get their HEA.

Jordan has had a rough childhood and just when things are looking up, at age 16, a tragic event sends her on a downward spiral. She is on a path of self-destruction with drugs and sex and doesn’t care enough to change until she’s given no alternative. About a year later, on a night out with friends, Jordan meets the one who will change her life yet again, Gavin.

Gavin is a local police officer and even though there is a 5 year age difference, he and Jordan are drawn to each other. They start dating and grow closer together and neither have ever been happier. But Jordan gets into a bit of trouble and rather than put Gavin’s job in jeopardy, she decides to leave town.

5 1/2 years later, Jordan is back in town and when she and Gavin cross paths, even though they are with other partners, they are unable to deny their feelings for each other. But circumstances prevent them from truly being together. Will Jordan and Gavin ever get their chance to be together or is it too late for them?

This book spans about 20 years and at times it is difficult to figure out what is going on. The time span moves too quickly in places before the reader can get a clear picture of what is happening. I did like both main characters and hope that at some point they find their happiness together.  This book is the 1st in the series, so even though there is not a huge cliffhanger, the story is to be continued.

After stressing myself out for most of my life and obtaining three engineering degrees, I decided it was in my best interest, for my health, that I uproot the family and move to the east coast of Florida. Then add to that the fact that I refuse to work in the engineering field rather I wait tables at a local restaurant and write books in my spare time.

I am married with two teenagers and a very spoiled pit bull but we love living at the beach year round. The family enjoys boating, swimming, fishing and more while I enjoy being around lots of different people at work as well as stay in shape with all the running.

Until You Find Me is a brilliant, beautiful, heart-wrenching, suspenseful love story. I truly don’t think there are enough stars for this book. It is in the top 10 of all the books I have EVER read, not just this year….I literally mean EVER!. There was laughter, tears, and a couple of curse words as the story unfolded. I am not sure anything I write can do this magnificent book any justice. It was AMAZING!!!!

Raven has left her home in the United States and traveled to the deep forests of Africa searching for answers to painful questions. Why did her father choose the apes to rehabilitate over his family? Why did he die? Why did he want her to come so desperately before he died? As she maneuvers the dangers of the jungle in her quest, she encounters Jospin, a sexy native, who has secrets of his own. As they spend time more time with each other, their attraction to each other gets HOTTER! As always with a good romance, there are other unforeseen factors that threaten to tear them apart.

While this is a fantastic romance filled with hot, combustible sexual chemistry between the Jospin and Raven, it’s a love story of other sorts. It’s a love a daughter has for her father and a love and dedication to saving a species that need all the help they can get! Raven is a broken girl mentally and physically, but she has the soul of not only a survivor but a fighter. Her struggle with her grief and resentment I felt deep in my heart. And, I felt her joy as she found bits of happiness in the very place and the very animals that she thinks took her father away from her. Some of my favorite scenes are between Raven and the gorilla, Leahciim. The interaction between Raven and Leahcim were so heart-pounding and beautiful that they brought me to tears.

As I said earlier, there is love and heartache, but this is a suspenseful and thrilling read as well. It’s full of twists and turns, and when Amber Hart revealed the secrets behind those twists and turns, she blew me away….this is where the curse words came in. It was great though!!! It left me waiting for more, and the ending…oh my! Didn’t see the direction she was going to take this one in. It’s a bit of a cliffhanger, but please don’t let that keep you from reading this fantastic book!

I have never read anything from Amber Hart, but I can guarantee it won’t be my last. She has a heart for conservation and particularly for gorillas. She does a magnificent job of allowing the reader to see her passion. It was moving, and I saw a side to these incredible creatures I had not seen before. Please do yourself a favor and download this beautiful and thrilling book today. It will move you and touch you deeply! I just have one request, Amber, please don’t make us wait too long to see what happens to Jospin, Raven, and those beautiful gorillas!

Over a year ago, I decided to
pick up a pen and jotted down the first sentence of my vivid imagination. Those
initial words were the seeds that grew into my romance book, “Beginning with
Forever.” With all my heart, I wrote, rewrote, edited, re-edited and now, I’m
finally ready to share it with all of you. My one and only aspiration for this
book is to have readers embrace my story and characters with their heart. If I
can make someone laugh till their gut hurts, hate the villain with vengeance,
cry till their eyes dry out, fall in love all over again, and drool over the
hero or feel any other emotions, than I’ve succeeded my goal.

I’m the sappiest
person in the world when it comes to romance. I believe in love at first sight,
Prince Charming or in my book, Mr. Hot Billionaire, and happy endings. In my
heart, every women deserves all three, and they will when they lose themselves
in my books. Your fantasy can become a reality with just the flip of a page, so

~ REVIEW: Unwritten by M.C. Decker ~

I thought it was too late. I thought our story had already been written.

College sophomore Brooke Anderson thought she had it all − a loving family, her sexy high school sweetheart, a supportive, quick-witted best friend and dreams of being the next hotshot reporter for the Washington Post.

Fate had something else in mind when Brooke collided with the devastatingly handsome upperclassman, Rich Davis. Rich was cocky, conceited and arrogant. He was everything that Brooke didn’t want, but Rich never gave her the option. He had already made the choice to be, at the very least, her friend. Would Brooke accept this egotistical man’s friendship? Would she choose to want more? Would it be too late if she did?

Fast forward nearly ten years. Brooke’s life hadn’t played out quite as she had envisioned it. She was suffering from the heartbreaking loss of her mother, her high school sweetheart was long gone, and her dreams of the Washington Post had turned into a career at a small town paper. I want to start off by saying I love Rich and Brooke!! Wonderful debut from M.C. Decker!!!

This story is about Brooke Anderson and Rich Davis, two college students who happen to meet in a journalism class and are assigned as partners on an assignment. Brooke can’t stand Rich’s arrogant attitude and he thinks she is a total slacker.  But through working on this and other assignments together, Brooke and Rich discover they actually get along really well and build a strong friendship.  There is an attraction between them but Brooke has a long-distance relationship with her high school sweetheart and is determined to be true to him. 

When Brooke and the boyfriend break up, she is ready to take the leap with Rich from friends to more but he wants more than to be her rebound.  When she is finally ready to be with Rich and is truly over her ex, he has moved onto someone else.  Although they remain friends throughout their college days, their timing is never right to be more. When Rich graduates, a year ahead of Brooke, they agree to stay in touch, but life gets in the way.

Years later, Rich and Brooke are reunited through work and both are still single.  Will they get their timing right to find their HEA together or will their story remain unwritten?

I loved this book! Brooke and Rich are such enjoyable characters and I loved them both!! Brooke’s best friend is amazing as well and I loved her nicknames for Rich.  I loved how we get the story of Rich and Brooke from the beginning up until the present time.  Amazing debut by M.C. Decker!!  Just a forewarning, it does end on a cliffhanger but the 2nd book should be out in a couple months.

M.C. Decker is the author of the debut novel, Unwritten. She lives in a suburb of Flint, Michigan with her husband and spoiled-rotten Siamese cat, Simon. For the last decade, she has worked as a journalist for several community newspapers in Michigan’s Thumb region. She enjoys all things ’80s and ’90s pop culture: movies, boy bands, music and especially the color, hot pink. She also strictly lives by the motto, “Life is better in flip flops,” and is a diehard Detroit Tigers fan.
