One Night by AJ Pine is one of the best books I have ever read…not just in 2015…I mean EVER! I would give this book a million stars if I could. Pine completely broke my heart into a thousand pieces but put it back together by the end. Truly a beautiful and extraordinary book!
Jess is completely broken and never allows herself much interaction with others except sharing one night with strange men after drinking herself almost to oblivion. She doesn’t allow others near her heart, even her roommate, Zoe. She keeps telling herself this is the way life has to be. She wasn’t always this way. A year ago she was the normal college student who had her life planned out until one day something devastating happened that changed her life forever. She pours everything into her goal of becoming a physical therapist. Her carefully constructed walls are in danger of crumbling when she meets Adam, the star basketball player at their university; he’s her new patient. With his sweet, endearing, and non-judgmental nature, he begins thawing her heart causing her to have feelings she thought were long dead. But does he have the patience and endurance to climb her carefully erected walls and tear them down? Will she ever stop running and believe she deserves happiness and love just like everyone else?
The story is well-written, and her characters are very well-developed. For example, the characters I expected to hate, I didn’t. They were very human, and I felt for them just as I did for Jess. I couldn’t help falling in love with Jess, Adam, and Zoe. I just wanted to help Jess, even though, at times I wanted to beat her with my Kindle. When her secret is revealed, my heart broke with her. I’m not sure I wouldn’t have reacted just like she did. Oh Adam….how I love thee. He’s perfect. He’s beautiful (yes, I said beautiful); his beauty emanates from his soul which together with his sexy looks makes him irresistible. Who wouldn’t love a guy who watches The Vampire Diaries???? Then, we have Zoe, the roommate. She is persistent and loyal. We need more people like Zoe in the world; it would definitely be a better place! Even the secondary characters like Regan, the teenage patient of Jess, are important. She teaches Jess courage and strength.
I could go on and on about the reasons I love this book. I just hope I am conveying my thoughts in a way for others to see how magnificent One Night is. It’s a story about forgiveness, trust, acceptance, loyalty, friendship, and love. This is the second book I have read by AJ Pine, and she has rocked my world twice now. You can tell when writers care about their story and their characters because you feel it too. They occupy a special place in your mind and heart. Adam and Jess did that for me! I can’t wait to see what AJ Pine has in store for me next! Yes, I am a lover of everything AJ Pine. Excellent Book!
