They’re not kids anymore, but Milo Caro is certain that Colton Mathews will only see her as his best friend’s little sister for the rest of their lives. After all, he made that clear the night before she left for college. But four years later, her brother is getting married and Colt’s the best man—and guess who is the best man’s last-minute date?
Milo vows to use the wedding to either claim the smoldering firefighter’s heart or douse this torch for good. When Max—her best friend from college, who may be carrying a torch of his own—crashes the party, they devise a plan to make Colt see what he’s missing. But after Colt catches on, he decides to cook up his own revenge.
Now it’s personal. Colt and Milo are at war, and between Max’s questionable acting methods, an unfortunate trip to jail, and a maniacal fiancée, what could possibly go right?
LOVED, LOVED reading The Consequences of Loving Colton. I have read several books by Rachel Van Dyken, and this one may be my favorite! It’s filled with Van Dyken’s quirky characters, humor, and romance.
Milo and her brother, Jason, have been friends with Colton ever since they were children. In fact, they have been inseparable. However, as Milo’s body changes going through puberty so does her relationship with Colton. As the years pass, she realizes she is in love with him, but it appears that he never sees her as anything other than Jason’s “little sister.” As they say, life goes on, and Milo leaves for college and limits her visits home, so she won’t have to see Colton….it’s too painful. When Jason decides to get married, she knows she has to return home. Long story short, she shares a passionate kiss with Colton, but instead of clearing things up, things get more confusing. Chaos reigns when Milo’s best friend, Max, shows up as her “fake boyfriend” to help her finally win Colton.
The book has all my favorite things….romance, unforgettable characters, and laughter. The romance was both sweet and sexy with lots of teasing and chemistry between Colton and Milo. It wasn’t only their romantic feelings for one another that was wonderful but their friendship over the years. I loved their memories from their childhood, especially Colton as the dragon and dragon slayer. I loved all the characters except Jayne. And, we have another feisty, hilarious grandmother, YES!!! However, my favorite character, hands down, was Max!!!! I loved him!!! He’s the perfect mix of sexy and funny! He may be just a little over the top because every time he’s on the scene, laughter and chaos isn’t far behind!
I have been a fan of Rachel Van Dyken for several years now, and after reading this book, I am an even bigger fan!!!! I love her characters and humor! She has an incredible talent of connecting readers with her characters by highlighting their flaws and quirkiness. With so many of her books, I finish with a warm feeling in my heart. Those are my favorite kind of books! I can’t wait until June when Max gets his own book! YAY!!!!
