Haunted A Romantic Suspense (Book Two in The Shattered Pieces Series)

by Kiara Delaney

Genre: Romantic Suspense

Publication Date: November 30, 2015

Synopsis

When Devon Bradford entered Nina Petrov’s life, she was broken and alone. He did everything in his power to tear down her defenses, refusing to let her push him away. In the end, it just wasn’t enough. Nina had backed him into a corner, and he ended up doing the very thing he promised Nina he would never do- leave her, just as all the other men had done to her before. By the time Nina’s secrets had finally come to light, Devon had already vanished- she left him with no other choice. In the end, she was forced to make the decision between letting the memory of him consume her, or vanquishing him from her mind forever.

Devon had abandoned Nina in her darkest hour, in what seemed like a lifetime ago. It had shredded her heart, and left her questioning her sanity. The day he’d left her, she’d buried a part of herself, but the memories of him continued to haunt her, leaving her feeling unsure about everything she thought she once knew.

It has been eighteen months since Devon Bradford disappeared from Nina’s life, but she’s worked hard to dispel the demons that once plagued her. One day at a time, she becomes one step closer to leaving her past behind and moving forward. That is, until one fateful day, Devon is hurled back into Nina’s life, and her reality will be forever changed.

As Nina finds herself chained once more to the ghosts of her past, she realizes Devon holds the key to her future. Can Nina really trust Devon this time, or will he leave her to pick up the shattered pieces of her life once more?

Excerpt

Stepping into her space, I lifted her chin, forcing her to peer up at me. She tried to look away, but I didn’t let her. I gazed intently into her eyes as she held my stare. I was dangerously close to crossing a line, but in that moment, nothing mattered to me but Nina. She was becoming embedded under my skin. I was becoming lost in her- lost in her beauty, her touch, and especially her mind. With every second that ticked by, I was free falling into her essence. I wanted to plunge into the depths of her thoughts and emotions to understand just a fraction of what made her into the woman that stood before me.

Theo ran a hand through his hair, leaving it atop his head. “It’s been a rough day.”
Asking him what happened would be a useless endeavor. Theo was hard and secretive, a quiet implosion rather than a fiery explosion.
“It’s all clear here,” I said. My heart tapped in agreement, my boring, routine night transforming into a soft exchange with a man who sent my stomach into a flying trapeze act with my heart.
You’re getting the jump you’ve been craving. Admit it. It’s him who has you falling.
I bit my tongue, refusing any more inner dialogue.
“Yes.” He glanced down at me. “I see that.”
“And it’s all good up here.” I indicated my head. “So—and I’m not saying you do—but if you do feel guilty, don’t.”
He inhaled quickly. It made me feel like what he said next wasn’t what he truly wanted to get across. “I don’t do this normally—take on new girls, show them the ropes by convincing them to run away.” His hand came up to his head again, fingers tangling into the strands. “In fact, you’re perfect for the job. Charismatic, quick-witted, smart. Fearless in many ways I don’t expect.”
I laughed, but it wasn’t joyful. “I’m not as brave as you think. More stupid than intrepid—”
“Don’t.”
I flicked my gaze to his lips, then back to his eyes. “Don’t what?”
“Question yourself like that. Or think that what I show you is chosen with malice. I want the very opposite…”
“So roll with it,” I said. Don’t fight me. “Be curious about it, because I am.” I shrugged, laughing again. “And take me out.”

Abou the author Ketley

Ketley Allison began her creative career by writing books as birthday presents for her friends (with her friend as the main character and opposite a super sexy lead, of course) before ending it in order to walk down a path she thought she was supposed to follow.

The writing bug never left her—and, in fact, would often bleed into the official papers she was supposed to write—so now Ketley’s putting down her suit and finally following her dream. While her friends are no longer the stars of her books, she still throws in bits and pieces of them into each and every one of her characters.

As a result, her books tend to focus a lot on friendships as well as love, because let’s be honest, friends are what really get you through—especially when your epic love turns into epic heartbreak.

Game On in Seattle #6
Jami Davenport
Released Oct 11th, 2015
Cedona Enterprises

Synopsis
USA Today Bestselling author Jami Davenport introduces the Seattle Steelheads
football team with this sixth book in her Game On in Seattle sports romance series.

The daughter of one-time rock legends, Emma Maxwell is the good girl of the family, the dutiful sister, the doting aunt, and a dedicated employee in the family party-crashing business. Every Wednesday night at Karaoke, she indulges in her secret fantasy of being a singer. Yet the thrill of being on stage doesn’t rival the thrill of a spontaneous liaison with the delectable, yet downtrodden, quarterback of the Seattle Steelheads, Tanner Wolfe, Emma’s long-time crush.

Tanner didn’t see it coming–not any of it. He was blindsided–by his dysfunctional family, his plummeting career, and the one thing he least expected–by love. After photos with Emma go viral, Tanner is caught in a lie and tells a bigger one to get out of it. Now he’s shoulder-pads deep in a temporary marriage while struggling to resurrect his disastrous career and reunite his broken family. As time passes, Tanner begins to wonder if temporary is good enough, but he’s made a promise to Emma, one which has nothing to do with marriage vows and everything to do with her Nashville singing career and the end of their relationship.

Will Tanner and Emma take the ball and drive for the win, or will they be permanently relegated to the sidelines as the clock runs out on their temporary marriage?

ExcerptEmma was mad—at herself. She’d revealed her biggest weakness to Tanner of all people. And for what reason? Heaven only knew. She sure as heck didn’t. He wasn’t the One, and she had no business telling him her secrets because he didn’t really care.

“Are you okay?” Tanner stared at her, his mouth set in a grim line, while a lone muscle jerked in his jaw.

Emma shook her head. His concern wrenched another bout of sobs from her. How stupid and ridiculous and weak? She was crying over karaoke for heaven’s sake. Except she knew it was more than that. She was crying because she wasn’t strong enough to follow her dreams like Avery or willing to give up the safe and known for the dangerous and unknown. Emma liked everything lined up in neat little lines, liked her life mapped out, all the way down to her someday wedding dress she’d clipped out of a bride’s magazine and stored in what she called her Notebook of Dreams. Tanner was in there, too, as her dream man—the guy she measured every other guy against. Of course, she didn’t really know him, only his public persona as a guy who did lots of charity work and was known for his easygoing, generous lifestyle with a lot of partying thrown in.

“Oh, man, sweetheart, I’m sorry.” He wrapped his strong arms around her. She stiffened briefly, but couldn’t resist him no matter how hard she tried. Emma relaxed into him, letting his warmth seep into her cold places, comforting her in ways she’d only imagined. She’d certainly never been comforted by her parents as a child. Izzy tried, but Izzy wasn’t exactly into warm-fuzzies. Yet, this man she barely knew made her feel better with just a hug because he was good at this. Really good. She reminded herself she meant nothing to him. He was not the One, she repeated over and over in her head. Only her heart had donned noise-cancelling headphones and was picking out wedding music.

Sniffling, Emma pulled back. “No one in my family knows I sing karaoke, and they can’t know.”

“Why?” Confusion spread across his handsome face.

“We have a pact—my sisters and I.”

“A pact? Not to sing karaoke? Seriously?” His brow creased in confusion and made him look so adorable, his expression helped staunch the flow of tears.

“No. We have a pact to never follow in our parents’ footsteps and become entertainers. We’ve lived that story of being on top, crashing to the bottom, and spending the rest of their lives trying to get back to the top again. The drugs, the drinking, the late nights, the complete and total disregard for anything but the music, especially your children.” And why was she telling him all this?

“Oh,” he seemed at a loss for words. “But you sing at the parties you crash?”

“That’s different.”

“Because Izzy approves of it?” he guessed, and Emma nodded slowly. “So you come here once a week to sing?”

She nodded again, surprised at how perceptive he was.

He rubbed his chin as if deep in thought then refocused those deep green eyes on her. “Your secret is safe with me.”

“Promise?”

“Yeah,” he said softly, his voice deep and husky, a voice that instantly made her panties wet and brought forth thoughts of steamy nights and naked bodies.

Oh my. Her hands flew to her mouth as she inwardly cringed at her wayward thoughts.

He patted her back, wrongly assuming it had to do with her broken dreams. He had no idea he was a large part of them. The DJ called him to sing, and she sat back, relieved to have a reprieve and happy to have an excuse to watch him without coming across as a stalker or a desperate woman with an even more desperate crush.

He had to be the hottest man in the room. Judging by the other women hungrily watching him, she wasn’t the only one who thought so. Tanner picked up the mic, nodded to the DJ, and grinned straight at Emma, making her feel as if she were the only woman in the large bar. She expected harsh music or even rap, only he pulled another surprise out of his bag of tricks.

Tanner’s gaze held hers captive as he started to croon a classic country ballad made famous by George Strait. It happened to be one of Emma’s personal favorites, and Tanner sang “The Chair” as well as George Strait had himself.

Emma couldn’t breathe, she couldn’t form a coherent thought as Tanner expertly wound a cocoon around the two of them with a song he sang as if he sung it just for her. His voice rolled over her like a warm ocean breeze, gentle and mesmerizing.

The man could sing, and Emma went from a crush to being hopelessly, undeniably in love with the man before he got to the chorus.

“Don’t look so shocked,” Tanner said after he sauntered back to his seat and sat down next to her. With a satisfied smirk on his face, he sipped his beer, the same one he’d been nursing all night.

christie review 4 and a half stars

Reading the synopsis and seeing the cover of Blindsided is what initially drew me to the book. I love a romance between a bad boy and good girl, and when the boy is a man who plays football is just icing on the cake! Emma is the sweet, beautiful girl who falls for the sexy bad boy, Tanner. Some may find their instant attraction to each other and the different situation they find themselves in as unrealistic. However, the plot and the characters are so well-developed that it’s not only realistic but a really enjoyable read! I loved watching our bad boy, Tanner, having his world turned upside down with Emma!

My favorite books always have characters that change, grow, and eventually mature into the individuals they were created to be, and Blindsided does just that, especially in regards to Tanner. I loved Emma from the very beginning. I could very easily relate to her; she was the strong, responsible one. As people leaned on her, they didn’t realize her feelings and dreams. I enjoyed watching her take up for herself and become even stronger. In the beginning, I wasn’t much of a Tanner fan. Yes, he was gorgeous, but underneath all that sex and bravado, he was a scared little boy with issues caused by his family. As I read further and got to know him better, I could see the scared little boy he was underneath that sexy exterior. He never thought he quite measured up, that is until Emma extraordinaire showed up in his world. I want to add that I loved the secondary characters as well. They were so complex that they greatly affected the lead characters.

Blindsided isn’t just the romance between Tanner and Emma. There is a lot of emotions running through the pages. It was also a story about family and its complicated relationships, love, forgiveness, and ultimately going after your own HEA. I can’t wait to read the next book in the series.

daniell review 5 star a

A beautiful story of finding true love when and where you least expect it.

Kinsley has faced tragedy in her young life, with the death of her mother and the subsequent abandonment by her father. Kinsley and her 2 older siblings have had to take on a lot of responsibility since that time, leaving little free time to think of anything but working and paying bills.  With her best friend, Becca, by her side and her protective older brother finally gone off to college, Kinsley is determined to enjoy her senior year in high school.

Rhett, star of the high school football team, has noticed Kinsley for the past couple years, but has had to bide his time til Kinsley’s brother graduated.  Unbeknownst to Kinsley, her brother had threatened him and the other teammates to not touch Kinsley.  Rhett now has the opportunity to convince Kinsley of his true feelings and wants to show her that while she might have lost others she loved, she can count on him to stay.

Kinsley decides to take a chance on Rhett and soon the two are falling head over heels in love.  But is young love able to endure and overcome the multiple challenges they will face?  Or will both Rhett and Kinsley’s hearts be left In Pieces?

I loved this book from beginning to end.  Both Rhett and Kinsley were very likeable characters and seeing their relationship grow was so very sweet.  With this book, I was dying to go back to my old habit of reading the end first and it was such a struggle at times but I am so very glad that I had the willpower to stay strong and not spoil the book for myself.  I have been a Gia Riley fan since Between the Pain and love everything she writes.  She knows how to tug at the heart strings every time and leave you feeling every emotion possible.  I can’t wait to see what Gia comes up with next!!
