~ Lucky Penny by LA Cotton Release Blitz + Review + Giveaway ~

Title: Lucky Penny
 Author: L.A. Cotton
Genre: Contemporary Romance
  Release Date: November 30, 2015

I was his lucky Penny. He was my light in the dark, hope in despair. Our bond was one of survival, friendship… first love.

But then we were ripped apart and Blake Weston became the memory I turned to when everything else in my life fell apart.

Seven years later, a summer working at Camp Chance is supposed to be my fresh start. Beautiful scenery and the chance to better the lives of foster children–kids like me. But when my eyes land on him across the fire, time stands still and feelings come rushing back to the surface. I thought I’d moved on, tucked him away in my heart. One look into his soulful blue eyes and I know I’m wrong. Blake Weston can heal the broken parts of me. Restore my hope. Love me.

It’s our second chance. A sign we are supposed to be together.

Isn’t it?

I was twelve when I survived the accident that killed my parents. Fourteen when I survived the devil. And sixteen, when I survived a heartbreak of the worst kind.

But in my twenty-three years, Blake Weston might just be the first thing I won’t survive.

Marissa didn’t follow me. It was most likely she had pieced together our story after Blake’s song. How could she not? It was as if he had weaved our entire relationship into his lyrics. I could feel his sixteen-year-old self singing every line to my sixteen-year-old self. Although, I was pretty certain the sixteen-year-old Blake I’d known then had no clue how to play the guitar. After washing the tearstains from my face, I brushed my teeth. It was still early, but I couldn’t face going back out there, so I changed into my shorts and tank top and climbed into bed. Sleep would be impossible, but at least here, I was safe.

Most people felt lonely in solitude, but I welcomed the silence. I embraced it even. Something about the quiet, the knowledge no one else was around, comforted me. I knew it made me different. I didn’t need a shrink to tell me that, but it didn’t change the fact that I found sanctuary in being alone.

I lay there not really allowing myself to think. Thinking was dangerous; it led to remembering, and my memories were stained with pain and hurt and the kinds of things that made most people’s nightmares look like a walk in the park. Instead, I tracked the uneven cabin ceiling. My eyes followed the planes of the wood from one end to the other and back again until they grew heavy.

A knock on the door startled me sending my already restless heart into overdrive and I rubbed at my eyes.

“Hello?” I called out hoping to hear Marissa’s voice, but I knew it wasn’t her. She wouldn’t have knocked; she would have barged right in and demanded answers.

“Penny, it’s me.”

I squeezed my eyes shut, but my mind betrayed me as an image of Blake’s face filled my head.

Another knock.

Forcing myself to sit up, I swung my legs over the edge of the bed. He wasn’t going away. Blake—our connection—was something I was going to have to deal with sooner or later, and from Blake’s admissions over the last few days, it seemed that he was making the decision for me.

My legs were like lead as I walked to the door. It swung open and Blake stood there looking at me with such reverence in his eyes I almost crumpled. Maybe I did crumple because, before my head had time to process what was happening, I was in Blake’s arms, and he was holding on to me like he needed me to breathe.

“I’ve missed you so much. I’ve tried to stay away, to give you space, but I can’t. I can’t spend another day feeling like you might slip through my fingers again.”

One of Blake’s hands buried itself in my hair and cradled my head holding me to him. My face pressed up against the collar of his hoodie, and I breathed him in. He smelled familiar, like damp grass and fresh air, of a time when things were less complicated, and my heart ached for us. At that moment, we weren’t two strangers reunited by chance; we were sixteen-year-old Blake and Penny.

And we needed each other to survive.

Heartbreaking but beautiful book about love, survival, and learning to live your life again despite your past!

Penny is a young woman trying to move past the pain of a terrible childhood and taking baby steps to learn how to trust others again, although, she gave up on love long ago. She loved someone years before. He was her security, safety, and showed her what being loved was all about. But, he was ripped away from her shortly before they were to be free from the foster care system they were in. Penny is taking a huge step becoming a counselor at a camp that specializes in helping foster children. She’s hoping not only to help herself but help the children as well. She will get more than she bargained for…her past is about to collide with her present and possibly affect her future when she locks eyes with the man, Blake, that once owned her heart and then crushed it when he left. As the two get to know one another again, those feelings are still there, but will they be able to overcome their pain and possibly have a future together? One thing is certain, it will indeed be a rocky road to happiness!

Penny and Blake were both well-developed and complex characters. Because of that, they both drew me into the story and tugged at my emotions. There were times I wanted to pull Penny in my arms and give her the security and love she deserved, I am a mother. Penny suffered a horrendous loss, and the people who were supposed to love her and help her did nothing except hurt her. Blake was a boy in the same foster home that became her friend and then became more. She gave him her heart even though that was difficult for her. He have her his heart as well, but outside forces pulled them apart. Therefore, Penny protected herself by not feeling any emotions. Going to this camp, not only brought Blake back into her life, but she was able to connect with others as well. I loved seeing her grow into a stronger woman who fought every day to not only survive but live life again. I also loved when Blake decided to make himself happy and not live his life for those around him. They are both characters that will not only forever stay in my mind but also my heart.

L.A. Cotton continues to surprise me. Lucky Penny is different from her other series, and while I love the Chastity Falls series, these characters and this story have a very special place in my heart. Cotton always throws a twist into her books, and this one isn’t any different. At times, the book was emotionally difficult to read, but it was done with sensitivity and love. I loved the hopeful message it delivers. Don’t ever let your past, no matter how painful, dark, or difficult, determine your future or happiness. Take back the control over your past and forge a happy future. I hope others who have endured some of what Penny and Blake did, will find hope and happiness as well. Well done, L.A. Cotton!

I never thought I would ever write a book. I wasn’t even really a reader until age twenty. But I picked up a romance novel and that was it for me. I fell in love. And then one day I stepped into this indie world of books and I started writing. Then I wrote enough to keep going. And then I had a book. Sometimes things happen when you least expect it, but it all falls into place. Writing is it for me.

I’m a stay at home mom with a degree in chemistry and biology. I LOVE science. If you get me started talking about biochemistry, it’s all over. I’ll rattle on for days! But I use all that knowledge to take care of my two little girls. Mostly while my husband is away being a soldier.

It’s taken me a long time to get here, but I like it … And I think I might stay a while.

New York’s Finest #2
Lauren Layne
Releasing Nov 24th, 2015

Being a cop might be in Anthony Moretti’s blood, but protecting and serving the city
of New York has always been more than just the family business. If that means his love life stays locked up, well then that’s just another sacrifice made in the line of duty. That is, until he sets eyes on the gorgeous new waitress at The Darby Diner and suddenly Anthony’s morning coffee is leaving him a whole lot more hot and bothered than usual.

Though waitressing at The Darby isn’t exactly Maggie Walker’s dream job, it pays the
bills and gives her time to work on her novel. Now if only she could stop fantasizing about gorgeous Anthony Moretti every time he sits down at her table, she’d really be in great shape. But when he needs her help identifying a criminal threatening The Darby—and Maggie recognizes her ex-husband—she fears her fresh start might be a pipe dream. Faster than a New York minute, Maggie and Anthony find themselves in one perilous pursuit that only gets hotter with each and every rule-breaking kiss.

“I just can’t believe Mags called you Officer,” Vincent said in sham reverent tone. “I don’t know how she missed the nine -hundred and forty- two reminders that you’re a Captain now.”

“Well she damn well should remember,” he muttered. “Is anyone else remembering that she spilled iced -tea all over me at my coronation party?”

“She spilled it on your shoes,” Elena said. “Which were black.”

“Still,” Anth said, glancing around the room this time to make sure she wasn’t with in earshot. “I don’t know why we have to act like she’s a new member of the family when she can’t seem to go a single Sunday without spilling somebody’s breakfast on me. It can’t be an accident every time.”

“Maybe she wants to get your attention. Your humble, pleasantcharming personality is so charming,” Ava said quietly into her coffee mug.

Anth looked at Luc’s girlfriend. “Et tu, Brute?”

Ava winked.

And then his dad leaned back in the booth, folded his arms, and glared at his oldest son. “So tell me again what you’re doing to close in on this Smiley character.”

“Oh my God, he’s like a dog with a bone!” Elena said, throwing her arms up in exasperation, before turning her attention back to her cell phone. “Also, is Nonna texting anyone else? I’ve been getting mucous every five minutes.”

“Yes,” everyone replied at once.

“She just sent me a wWikipedia link on phlegm,” Vincent grumbled.

To say that his grandmother had been upset to miss brunch because of a lingering head cold was an understatement. She’d been punishing them all with updates on her illness.

Anthony glanced at his watch, and mentally counted the minutes until he could relax with a beer and watch the Yankees game.

Of the three sacred things in his life, the New York Yankees had always been a very distant third to family and the Department.

Now he was seriously rethinking his priorities.

Steal Me by Lauren Layne stole my heart…not just the story but the larger than life characters too! This is the second book in the series and is Anthony and Maggie’s story. Anthony is the oldest and most serious of all the Moretti brothers. He’s following in his father’s footsteps; he’s recently made captain on the force, and he has the potential to go all the way up the ladder in the NYPD…but those plans may have hit a snag when an arrogant burglar is making a joke of the police as he continues to leave snarky notes at each scene. He’s proving very hard to catch too. And, there is a complication in the sexy captain’s personal life in the form of the shy waitress, Maggie. She his family’s favorite waitress at the diner they frequent. He can’t get her out of his mind, and not because she’s always dumping food or drinks on him. She stirs feelings inside of him he’s never experienced before. His mind tells him that relationships aren’t possible, but his heart and his desire for her tells him differently. As she becomes a big part in his ongoing case, he realizes she has feelings for him too…so, what will ultimately be the victor…his mind or his heart?

The one thing that draws me into a story is the character development, and Layne’s characters are larger than life…they have their own personalities and made me feel like I was a part of the Moretti clan. Anthony is serious and has to be in control, and there’s nothing I like more than an alpha losing control, especially by a woman! I didn’t much care for Anthony at first, but when I saw his defenses crumble, I fell for him just like Maggie did. I loved Maggie from the very beginning, and I enjoyed seeing her change from an insecure and shy girl to the confident woman who spoke her mind. She was truly the hero of this book! All the secondary characters were as well-developed as Anthony and Maggie. One of my favorites is Nonna…she’s a spunky, independent grandma! Love her!

Seriously, what’s better than a book filled with a loveable family, friends, romance, and steam? Not much! And, add the way Layne described the beginnings of their relationship to reading a book…priceless! This was a great addition to the series, and I can’t wait to catch up with the Moretti’s in the next book, Cuff Me!

5 star aWow!!! Xavier Neal has taken us on an unforgettable, heart pounding ride yet again! Iconic is the book in the series that I have been waiting on with since I first met the McCoy brothers in the very first book in the series. This one is Madden’s book; he is the oldest of the McCoy brothers and has shouldered all the responsibilities of keeping his brothers safe. He’s now on the mission to bring down the villain, The Devil, once and for all and bring an end to the pain and suffering this drug lord has brought to his family. If he does, will he finally get his own HEA? Or, will he find himself in the same place some of his family has…the graveyard?

Madden had me under his spell from the very first book, even though that book was about his youngest brother, Merrick. He’s always been a strong personality, and Neal as made that evident throughout the entire series. Madden has done some illegal things to make sure he provided for his family, but as all of us know, bad things come back and wreak havoc in your life when you make bad decisions. Even though he’s walked on the wrong side of the law, I always knew he had a good heart! And, my heart continued to break for him as he lost more of his family and himself to that life. He’s denied himself the chance for happiness all his life, especially where his love, Knox, was concerned. He’s been in love with her since childhood but never acted on it even as she spent her life devoted to him and watched his revolving door of women. Finally, he’s opening that door to her, and I sat on the edge of my seat waiting to see if he finally got that happiness he so deserved. Knox, what can I say about her??? She’s a fighter, has a foul mouth, and even though she’s loved Madden all her life, she spends just as much time wanting to beat the crap out of him. At times, I couldn’t blame her. On the surface, she’s tough and hard, but she loyal, and she loves passionately and fiercely. She devoted to the Madden family even though she isn’t related by blood, and I loved her relationship with her grandmother. The two of them are unstoppable as a couple. Each brought out the softer side of each other and evened out their sharp edges.

The Adrenaline Series is fast paced, thrilling, and full of steamy sex! Sometimes in books, one can overpower the other, but Neal has perfected balancing both in her books that make them addictive. I have purposely not written much about what takes place because I don’t want to spoil anything. If you haven’t met the McCoy family, what are you waiting for? I promise once you become a part the family, you will never forget them! Buckle up because it will be a thoroughly bumpy and enjoyable ride!
