First love. Last love. Only love. Well, at least that’s how Ryder Collins thinks of the girl he lost because of his addiction ten years ago. christie review 5 star a

I am still stunned and in awe even days after I finished reading Blue Dream. I don’t recall having a book move me in quite the same way as this one did! It’s raw, real, emotional, beautiful and heartbreaking, just like the main character, Ryder.

“Your past doesn’t have to dictate or destroy your future. If you use it correctly, it can do the opposite. It can inspire and change it. However, that choice is yours.”

At one time, Ryder and Presley thought they had it all. Despite who or what tried to come between them, they would beat it and be together forever. However, that wasn’t to be. Years later, Ryder is in yet another rehab facility. Presley is very successful professionally yet in a relationship that does nothing for her. Ryder and Presley have never forgotten one another…not the love…not the pain. As the two have to face their pasts, will they finally let go of the past and be able to live again, even if they are apart?

Presley was always Ryder’s addiction; he could never get enough of her. Yet, he allowed outside forces to pull them apart. I have never hated yet loved a character as I did Ryder. He not only rejected her, but he destroyed her. He was selfish and self-centered. As with any addiction, he couldn’t leave her alone and kept dragging her into his madness. To heal himself, he developed another addiction to help him cope with his pain. The one thing, drugs, he turned to help him ended up destroying him and Presley in the process. As much as I wanted to hurt him, I loved and wanted to protect him like she did. I fell in love with Presley, and I enjoyed seeing her remember the girl she once was.

Blue Dream was different from the other books I’ve read by Xavier Neal, but I have to say, this is my favorite from her. She gives an honest, real, and raw look at addiction…not only the effects on the addict but on their loved ones as well. Sometimes, it’s easy to forget the person and only see the disease because of the self-destructiveness of the user. Through her flashbacks of their early days, readers get to see Ryder before he let the darkness have everything. The icing on the cake was the surprise appearance of one of my favorite characters from one of her other series. Neal continues to surprise me with every book she writes! Not only was this my favorite by her, but it’s a book on the very top list of favorite books EVER read. Looking forward to the next stop in Ryder’s and Presley’s journey!

Excerpt

A small breeze picked up against the water and I closed my eyes, trying to push back the sensation of longing I felt when Bane’s scent lingered in the air. Did the lines push us together or some other mystical force draw us closer despite the expectations laid at both our feet? I had no clue where that inclination came from, didn’t much care, if I was being honest. But out here under the bright moon, with the lines humming behind us and Bane standing close enough that I could feel the heat of his body, nearly feeling the whisper of his breath on the back of my neck, that closeness felt like a weight I thought I’d dropped years ago.

It never left you, the lines sang, and in my mind I imagined that tone was a bit smug.

Still, it wasn’t wrong. But it was pointless. The truth was useless when reality serves up a generous helping of impossibility. Which made Bane’s closeness and that gravitational pull of him almost impossible to ignore.

At my side, the wizard kept his attention on the sky and, possibly, on that quick, steady buzz of magic pulsing from the lines. Bane closed his eyes, tilting back his head to give his face to the moon as though the beams of light warmed his skin. He was so ruggedly beautiful, so impossible to resist that I had to remind myself we weren’t alone, the others would likely notice if I stood there staring at him helplessly for so long. But before I brought my attention away from those sharp features and the subtle, soft hint of stubble along his jaw, Bane grinned, a slow, amused twitch of his mouth and then he glanced at me as though he found it the height of funny to catch me gawking.

“Your eyes are telling secrets, Jani.”

“Hardly,” I tried forcing an eye roll I didn’t mean. Bane wasn’t buying it. He didn’t seem overly concerned that the others stood some distance from us or that Cari or her bored brother were likely spying on us. Bane, in fact, somehow stood closer, arms crossed so that his elbow brushed against my bicep.

“It doesn’t mean anything, you know.”

“What doesn’t?” My question came out too quickly, the words too clipped as he inched closer. He liked to torture me, I knew that, but I’d never seen him enjoy dolling at that torture so openly.

“The attraction you feel.” Bane shot his thumb over his shoulder. “The lines, the raw feel of them—without the Elam they aren’t buffered and we are all feeling it.” He nodded grinning as two witches snuck off into the forest alone. “It’s in our nature, Jani. The lines unhindered, raw, they just bring it from us.” He’d drank whiskey from a canteen he edged out of his pocket. The rich hint of it came off his breath when he stepped closer. It made my fingers shake. Bane was easily five inches taller than me and as he crowded closer, he used that height to his advantage with his breath fanning over the top of my head and his chest touching my back. “They’ll only get stronger.” It wasn’t anything I hadn’t already guessed, but that claim coming from him, with that air of seduction in his tone, made me realize, finally, what that might mean. Uninhibited magic influencing every magical creature; no voice of reason to temper our behavior should we get too close. God help me, I’d cave, and from how eager Bane was to get close to me, I had a feeling that’s exactly what he wanted.

“What is it about you, Jani?”

He’d said my name like that once, right after he’d confessed he wasn’t sure what I wanted. But one look, one real, honest examination of my expression and Bane had guessed. I wanted him, and my name falling from his mouth in that throaty, eager whisper was all it had taken to unravel my hesitation.

My fingers rubbing against my eyelids, another breath against the top of my head and the sweet, warm bourbon scent brought my awareness away from the never-dimming desire to kiss him. He was twisting magic, working me over on purpose. Bane let the lines take him over, just a bit. His control was waning as he moved his fingers through the ends of my hair.

“You’re more open out here, this close to the lines, aren’t you?”

“We all are,” I told him, curling my arms around my waist like I could really protect myself from him.

“They’ll get stronger,” he said, taking one wavy strand of hair off my shoulder to curl around his finger. “They’ll get stronger and you’ll want to lose control.”

Eyes closed tight, I saw what that loss of control would look like. Something erotic and inappropriate involving that large wizard behind me and lots and lots of fallen red maple leaves sticking to our naked skin.

I blinked, stepped out of his reach to block that imaginary scenario. “That is not going to happen.”

“Why not?” he asked, moving in front of me, keeping me from retreating further away from him.

I arched an eyebrow and smiled. “Why do you think, Mr. Iles?”

His shoulders fell and the tension crowded around his features again when my small words pushed reality right back into his mind. One low grunt and Bane turned his head, attention back on the crowd in the clearing. “You know how to ruin a moment, don’t you?”

“Was that a moment?” I teased, trying not to laugh when Bane started working his jaw.

His gaze flashed back at me and some of that irritation lessened the severity of his expression. “Could have been.”

Sometimes Bane let a little emotion—real emotion that has nothing to do with teasing or trying to bate me into a reaction—pass in his eyes. I saw it just then. It was sincerity, maybe a little longing, but I couldn’t stop and give it much weight. How could I when that would lead to nothing but disappointment?

I cleared my throat, bringing my eyes down to the ground where I kicked a rock with the tip of my boot. “I don’t think your fiancé would have appreciated any moments you might have wanted with me.”

“Probably not,” he said and the humor in his voice was forced, as though he’d noticed the real emotion had snuck in for a moment and he needed to tamp it down quickly. Bane put back on that dominant, in-control mask and moved his head, trying to catch my eye. “But that doesn’t mean they won’t happen anyway.”

“That’s a little selfish of you, don’t you think?” When he squinted at me as though he were confused, I clarified. “You engaging with moments not reserved for the witch you’re supposed to marry.”

“Maybe, but you know, Miss Benoit, I’m not married yet.” He stepped even closer, bringing my hair back between his fingers. “And when the right moments come, I generally don’t care who they’re with.”

It was a lie, one that I saw clearly through his arrogant demeanor. But Bane walked away from me then, looking back only once as though he wanted me to see the promise in his expression with the low glance of his eyes over my body and that thick bottom lips between his teeth. That expression, that promise he gave, was a challenge he wanted me to take. But as he climbed back up the hill and greeted several of members of the Birmingham coven, I knew the challenge would be unmatched. Just like us, it’d be the game I’d refuse to play with him.

Resisting the Moon Teaser 2Excerpt

“Can I help you?” I asked, turning to face Sebastian Lyall.

His whitish-blond hair was perfectly coifed in messy spikes, his light blue, button down shirt matching the color of his eyes. The last thing I needed was to look into them. He’d had me tongue tied several times in the past and it ended up making me look like an idiot.

Smirking, Sebastian stepped closer, holding out a hand. “Would you care to dance?”

Rolling my eyes, I nodded toward the group of women in the corner who watched his every move. “Why don’t you ask one of your groupies? I’m sure they’d be more than willing.”

He and his brothers, Micah and Zayne, along with Colin, were hot commodities in our pack. They were all royal wolves—the elite. No female could resist them, except me that is. I couldn’t complain though; the royals helped make our pack invincible.

Sebastian leaned closer, his gaze serious. “I asked you, Tyla Rand. Besides, there’s something I need to tell you.”

“Why do we have to dance in order for you to spill? Just say it now.”

Chuckling, he grabbed my hand and pulled me to the dance floor. “What’s the matter, afraid to be close to me? I promise I won’t bite.”

Right. Huffing, I reluctantly walked onto the dance floor just when the tempo changed to a slower, sensual beat. “You’ve got to be kidding me,” I growled. Other couples joined in and held each other, swaying to the music, while I stood there like a fool.

Grabbing my other hand, Sebastian pulled my arms around his shoulders and put his around my waist. “See? Not so bad.”

I glared up at him. “Just keep your hands from wandering. Now what do you want to talk about?” His hands snaked lower and I growled. “Keep it up and see where your hands end up next.”

Chuckling, he lifted them higher. “I like watching your cheeks blush. It’s sexy as hell.”

Synopsis

Tensions run high when Bradley rocks the boat of wedded bliss by inviting Gabe, Sam, Ryan, Joe, and their families to spend Christmas Day with Gabby and him.

Sam finds herself torn between the man she loves and the ones she thinks she doesn’t.

Will the rift between Gabby and Sam continue to spread? Will everyone be able to finally leave the past behind?

When tragedy strikes, will they realize everything is temporary except Forever?

Excerpt

“What you see from the road doesn’t come close to doing it justice.” I nudge Ryan. “Right, babe?”

He startles. “Huh?”

“I was just telling Rebecca and Joe the view from the road doesn’t do it justice.”

He shakes his head. “She’s right.” He smirks. “The woman’s always right.”

Joe’s eyes scrutinize me furtively. “Not always.”

I try to swallow, but my mouth is parched once again. “I’m gonna have one last drink before we go. Some wine to warm my veins against the cold.” Reaching down, I pick up the nearly empty bottle. “I’d offer some to y’all, but looks like Gabby and I have about finished this one.” I salute Ryan, then Joe, and ignore Rebecca. “Bottoms up.”

Joe blinks, but holds his lids closed a little longer than usual. His legs, which are touching mine, tense before he snatches the bottle. “I think you’ve had enough.”

“I’m not drunk, and seriously, what do you care?” I puff my chest out at him. I’m sick of him acting like he’s my babysitter tonight. I peek past him at Rebecca. “How do you handle his bossiness?”

She smiles, but it doesn’t reach her eyes. “I guess he feels like you’re his little sister, and he’s just trying to protect you.” She winks at me, and I want to slap her. No. I don’t. Because I’m not an aggressive drunk, and I’m not even all that loopy anymore. I’m not my father. Maybe Joe’s right. Maybe I’ve had enough. “Anyway,” she says. “He seems to prefer me bossing him around, if you know what I mean.” Maybe me wanting to slap her has nothing to do with the fact I’ve been drinking and everything to do with her being a bitch?

Joe’s head whips back to her. “Really?” Thoughts of when Joe mentioned dropping to his knees and begging me not to move pop into my mind. Maybe he likes being on his knees. Everything in me tries to contain the smile that wants to curve on my lips and the giggles that want to fall out of them.

Ryan bursts into laughter. “So, you’re a dominatrix, Rebecca?”

“I guess you could say that.” Her tone has changed. It’s not as perky, warm. “See, there was this guy in college I screwed around with. Everything was always on his terms and never mine. He treated me great in private, and like I was a piece of trash in public.” Did she date my sister’s ex too? Because I swear she’s describing Ian, but he’s a good bit younger than her. They wouldn’t have been at Tech during the same time. My head twists between the two of them.

“Maybe he liked you, but didn’t know how to show it. Maybe he was afraid. Maybe it was bad timing for a relationship.”

Sometimes Ryan can be a complete idiot, and I’m ashamed of what comes out of his mouth. I interject, “So bad timing for a relationship gives the douche permission to treat her like trash?” Even if I’m not her biggest fan, hearing her story is like listening to my Gabby’s. It’s too personal. The fact Ryan is even attempting to defend such horrible behavior appalls me. “Last time I checked, the answer is no.”

“Exactly. Thank you, Sam. Anyway, he made me realize the best way to protect my heart was to control every aspect. So, I guess you could say I’m a dominatrix if you want. I’m not really into my men having to be beaten into submission to have sex with me, though.”

She cuts her eyes at Joe, who has his head down. I hear him mumble something, but can’t make out the words. He’s rubbing his palms on his pants. Why is he letting her say all this? “Anyway, I prefer my men begging for me, but I need the control. First rule is in order to have sex with me, you have to court me.”

Ryan bellows. “So. Let me get this straight. You’re either saying my little brother lets you control him? Or…”

Forever is the conclusion to the This series by JB McGee. It can be read as a standalone but why miss out on the other amazing books in This series?!

To say that I was excited for more of This series would be an understatement. This series started my love of reading on my kindle and I fell in love with Bradley and Gabby 3 years ago in Broken and I loved them both just as much in Forever!

Also, in Forever, we finally get the rest of Gabby’s sister, Sam’s, story. Sam loves her boyfriend, Ryan, and believes he is her Forever. But Ryan’s brother, Joe, makes her feel so special and the chemistry between Joe and Sam is simmering so hot, how can it possibly be contained? Who will Gabby choose?

Forever is an absolutely beautiful story!! Once I started this book, I did not want to put it down. It is certainly very bittersweet to finish reading the finale of This series because I will miss these characters. This series is definitely one to be read over and over again! JB McGee is a very talented author who has an incredible way with words and is definitely on my one-click without hesitation list of authors!

michele review 3 and a half stars

When I was asked if I wanted to read this book, I jumped at the chance! After reading others by Maya Banks, I’ve fallen in love with her writing, so it was a given that I would want to read this book as well. I just wish I loved this book as much as I did the others.

I first start off with what I really liked about the book. Ummmm can you say Drake Donavan? That is one slice of hot and sex man candy! I love the sexy alpha male in any story, and Drake is definitely one of them. He’s mysterious and in control of everything that’s around him. This definitely leaks into the bedroom, and if you’re like me and totally down for some BDSM, then you’ll enjoy the leakage ;). I also enjoyed Evangeline’s character as well. She a very sweet, yet sometimes naïve, but you can’t help but love her. She’s very loyal to those she cares about and will do what ever she can to stand up for them.

The story line was just OK for me. I loved Drake and Evangeline’s characters, but I just wish there was more to them than what was in the story. Too quickly, Evangeline gives in to Drake’s demands (even though she doesn’t fully agree with them). I wish she would’ve have shown the backbone she shows to everyone else, to Drake as well. Drake, all of us women love a man of mystery, but I wish we could have had more of what made him him. He’s got all these bodyguards surrounding him at all times, but we never fully understand how he got to where he is or what he really does on the side. Who knows, I probably would have loved Drake even more if I knew some more about him.

Overall, this book was a good read, but there were some holes that I hope are filled in the next book. Don’t get me wrong, the story was pretty good, and Maya Banks does give you the feels. I just wish there was more to the story than what there was. I’m hoping that the next book will make me fall in love with this series. I know sometimes the authors build up the tension during a series, but I just wish I had more instant gratification with this one.

If you love Maya Banks, I’d definitely say give this book a try! As they always say, not everyone reads the same book. So who knows, this could be your top read for the year!

first touch teaser 1

Excerpt

The room began to close in around me, blanketing me with acute heaviness. I drained my champagne in one swallow then set it on a waiter’s tray as I pushed through the crowd and out to the overflow area that had been set up in the parking lot. Once the chill night breeze hit me, I gasped in a deep breath, swallowing the air in long gulps, as though I’d been underwater and had finally reached the surface.

With Amber, I’d been a glorified hooker. In Hollywood, wasn’t I pretty much the same thing? I’d simply left one bed to move to another. I chuckled at the paradox. It deserved a laugh, at least.

Footsteps sounded behind me, and I stifled the last bit of humor threatening to escape. Without looking over my shoulder, I felt the air change. The hair at the back of my neck bristled and the sting of electricity huddled around me.

I turned, somehow knowing what I’d find—who I’d find.

He leaned against the concrete doorframe watching me with eyes that pinned me in my place. He was captivating and magnificent, his tux fitting him better than clothing had the right to fit a person, better than any one of the pretty men that filled the room beyond him. Those men, my peers, they were a sea of beautiful—calm and serene. Reeve was the ocean, dark and commanding and turbulent. They moved in gentle waves. Reeve stood still and set the world crashing around him.

That easily, the breath I’d just managed to get under control was knocked from my lungs.

He spoke before I could regain my composure. “What a coincidence that you’d be at the same event that I’m at.”

The boldness of his accusation shocked me into response. “I’m not following you, if that’s what you’re insinuating.” My pulse fluttered in fear, in excitement. In irritation. I didn’t like the way he agitated me. Maybe I’d deserved it at his resort, but this? This was my turf.

With a surprising display of fierceness, I locked my eyes to his. “I’m the one who belongs at this event. Not you.”

He laughed and the sound of it fueled my indignation. It also sent heat rushing up my thighs, heat that turned my rage inward as well as out.

Hands in his pockets, Reeve stepped toward me. “Calm down, Emily. I was only teasing. Of course you aren’t here because of me. Perhaps, I’m here because of you.” He paused long enough for panic to jolt through me with reminders of the ominous words he’d delivered to me the last time we’d seen each other. “Perhaps, this time I’m the one who’s examining.”

My anger stepped up another notch, overwhelming my unease. “Examining me? Like, why—to scare me? To see if I’m as fun to mess with when you’re outside the home field? How dare you? Come here, into my world and prod at me just because you feel like it. Proceed to make it your playground. How dare you?”

His lip curved into a chiding smile. “Now you know how I felt.”

I refused to acknowledge my humiliation, though the flush that swept down my neck more than likely gave it away. “Thank you for the lesson, Mr. Sallis,” I said, my voice surprisingly steady. “I assure you that I have more than gotten the point. You won’t be having to give me any further demonstrations.” I started toward the venue doors, praying I could manage the walk. High heels and weak knees did not make for a good combination.

I circled widely around him, wanting to keep as much distance between us as possible. But I could still feel the warmth pulsating off him like the driving beat of a dance club. It trembled through me, coming up from the ground, shaking me, gripping me. I fought through it, forced myself past him.

“Emily.” His address caught me mid-stride. Five more feet and I’d be back in the Expo. Just a few more steps…

I couldn’t help myself—I stayed. I didn’t turn toward him, though. That was my single act of restraint.

“What I did to you at the spa—”His voice was silk and stubble all at once. The texture of the sound, as much as the mention of the spa, was bait on a hook. I practically leaned into his next words. “It wasn’t very nice.”

I spun toward him. “You think?”

“I like my privacy. I was mad.” It wasn’t an explanation so much as it was a reminder. You provoked me, he was saying. You deserved it.

“So you made me think you wanted to kill me?” Admittedly, I had earned his admonishment. I hadn’t earned a death threat.

“Eh. I never said I wanted—”

I cut him off with a point of my finger. “You did. In every way you could without the specific words.”

He opened his mouth as if to defend himself further. Then his expression changed, his features darkened, his eyes gleamed. “Did it scare you?”

“What do you think?” A shiver ran down my spine. He knew he’d scared me. It had been his intent to rile me up, make me afraid. What I hadn’t realized was how much he liked that he had.

christie review 5 star a

Wow! I really hate beginning reviews like this, but sometimes that’s the only word I think is appropriate. If you are looking for a book that will completely screw with your mind in all the best ways possible, then grab this one now. I guarantee once you start it, you will be addicted! Make sure you have nothing important to do except finish this book…yeah it’s that good!

Emily has worked very hard to leave behind a life that threatened to destroy her, and along with that she left behind her friend, Amber. She’s done well in becoming independent and taking care of herself. But, do you ever truly leave your past behind? She receives an ominous call from Amber indicating that Amber is in danger. Instead of turning her back on her friend, she is determined to find her. The person who may hold the key is the slightly dangerous, yet gorgeous, Reeve. What begins as a journey to find her friend turns into something much more than she expected…mystery, danger, darkness, and confronting your past.

First Touch is dark, disturbing, yet completely addictive. It’s not for the faint of heart. It exposes some of the darkest sides of humanity there can be. It’s also a lesson in how your past really can determine your future if you allow it to. The characters are some of the most complex and conflicted characters I’ve come across. Because of that, my feelings for them are complicated. I admired Emily because of her strength and tenacity to make her life better. But, has she really delved into her past and can she say she has overcome it? It appears that way on the outside, but not inside. She’s incredibly strong yet weak in some ways. I wanted to shake her and tell her that she is selling herself short, just like Reeve wanted to at times. And Reeve, OMG…he’s beautiful yet dark and scary at the same time. But, there’s something about him that lured me in just like he lured Emily in.

I’m always looking for something different to read, and First Touch is different! The characters on the surface shouldn’t make readers like them, but you really do! Parts of the book can be disturbing, yet you can’t get enough! It’s fast-paced, and just when you think you have it figured out, Laurelin Paige shows you that you have no clue what’s happening. And the end…holy crap…never saw that one coming! Can June get here any quicker? Brilliant book, one of the best books out there!!!

Laurelin Paige is the NY Times, Wall Street Journal, and USA Today Bestselling Author of the Fixed Trilogy. She’s a sucker for a good romance and gets giddy anytime there’s kissing, much to the embarrassment of her three daughters. Her husband doesn’t seem to complain, however. When she isn’t reading or writing sexy stories, she’s probably singing, watching Game of Thrones and the Walking Dead, or dreaming of Michael Fassbender. She’s also a proud member of Mensa International though she doesn’t do anything with the organization except use it as material for her bio.

Excerpt

She took the palm of her hand and wiped her face. “You don’t mean that.” She paused and looked at him. “Do you?”

“Yes, this is so fucked up Mimi. You don’t belong to me. You belong to him.”

“But…God, Austin, I don’t know what the hell I’m thinking or feeling.”

“I don’t care. The truth is, I got caught up in everything with you. I felt sorry for you; I pitied you.”

“Austin stop,” she cried “You don’t mean that.”

“Mimi, I do. The truth is. You were my final up-yours to my dear brother.”

“You’re lying.”

He took his hands out of his jean pockets and placed them on her sunken shoulders and looked firmly into her eyes. “Yes I do. Everything I told you about loving you was a lie. And this, what we had was nothing but revenge. Joel played it well, the son of a bitch. He even cheated death. Now get your goddam bags packed and get the hell out of my life.”

She jolted back, falling out of his grip.

Austin stood in silence after the hard slap connected across his left check; it caught his lip, making it bleed. She turned on her heel and ran away, her long hair flowing in the breeze behind her.

He stood there for a second, but it seemed like an hour. He walked a little, and then for the first time in his adult life, he cried.

The digital clock read 2 am. He gazed out of the window. The sky was tar-black, the large clouds gathered fast and furiously. Soon, the gentle specs of rain flicked against the window. As it grew heavier, the tarmac on the car-park soon turned into a black river. He saw a man quicken his pace and slip into a beaten old truck. He opened the door, letting the rain fall on him, drenching through his clothes. He moved out into the stormy weather, needing to wash away the hurt that lay inside him.

He remembered having this feeling once before, after the death of his father. It was then that the divide between him and his brother had become even greater. It had torn them apart, ripping them at the seams. Austin had stolen Joel’s father, and now he was taking his wife. He had no control over the first time, but he swore that he wouldn’t let Austin win this time.

Blood pounded in his ears; he was still at war, but this time with himself.

 christie review 4 stars

I have very complicated feelings about this book…I loved it yet I also wanted to throw my Kindle in the floor and stomp it by the time I finished. If you are looking for a book to bring out all kinds of emotions, this is definitely the book for you!

I knew when I read the synopsis there would be all sorts of feelings associated with it. Mimi is the wife of a U.S. Marine. Her relationship with her husband is a whirlwind and magical one. It’s incredibly passionate. She knows she faces the possibility of losing him, but she isn’t prepared for the day that call comes. As she is grieving, she realizes that there is so much she doesn’t know about him even though she is his wife. She travels to Texas and meets his estranged brother, Austin, and then she truly realizes that she really didn’t know Joel at all. As she uncovers more about Joel, she grows closer to Austin. When I say this is just the beginning of this book, I’m NOT EXAGGERATING!!! But, buckle up because it’s one heck of an emotional rollercoaster!

There were characters I truly hated, and there were characters I loved. At times, I thought Mimi was going way too fast, but I also somewhat understood where she was coming from. She has some much crap heaped on her. I kept wondering how much more she could handle, but she always rose to the occasion and went on. Because of her sheer will to survive, I came to respect her. Joel was extremely complicated…I loved parts of him and parts of him I hated…just like Mimi did. I loved Austin and Jake…you couldn’t help falling in love with them!

The plot drew me in quickly, and the twists and turns drew me in even deeper, especially those twists at the end. They left me speechless. At times, I felt like the writing style was a bit choppy, but this is Slough’s debut book, so I’m sure that will get better with each book she writes. If you are looking for a book that will elicit a very strong response, will get under your skin, and become a book you won’t soon forget, give this one a try! Looking forward to reading more from Cristina Slough!

Abou the author

Novelist, movie addict, and animal lover, Cristina Slough is the author of Till Death Us Do Part, her debut novel.

Cristina has always been a bookworm, rarely seen without a pen and paper in her hand, she loves delving into a literacy fictional world of her own.

At the age of 11, her junior school teacher told her mother that she would be wasting her life if she didn’t become an author. Throughout her teenage years and beyond, her parents spurred her on to keep writing. She later began a career in commercial real estate, working in London’s West End, a corporate bubble where she was unable to fuel her passion to write.

It was on her Californian honeymoon in 2012 that the bug to write was becoming increasingly difficult to ignore. After visiting Yosemite National Park she was inspired by the natural beauty of the land that surrounded her. Holding a special place in her heart, Yosemite would later be written into her debut novel.

She finally gave up the ‘big smoke’ when her son, Lucas, was born in October 2013.

When Lucas was a newborn, Cristina was told to sleep when the baby sleeps. She never could. There was a calling inside her to write. After getting to grips with her new role as a mother, she began working a psychological thriller, but she couldn’t fully connect to the characters she created. She ditched the manuscript and started Till Death Us Do Part (Limitless Publishing, 2015).

Cristina is married to Adam, who runs a successful business; together they share their Bedfordshire home with their son, crazy white German Shepherd and three spoiled cats. They can be found trekking through woodlands, or around the many shops Cristina loves to explore. As a family, they love to travel frequently, the United States being a firm favorite.

Synopsis

My first memory was of a slap, hard across the face: the sting on my cheek and the jarring of my bones as I slammed back into my bed. It was my dad who had hit me.

I had been four.

Most of my memories were much of the same and no one ever saw, no one ever fought to help, no one ever cared.

Then we moved.

My new neighbor cared, rescued the twelve-year-old I had been from a beating. Always thought I’d suffer the nightmare alone, I was wrong.

Mace Donati saved me that day in all the ways a person could be saved.

And his daughter, Mia, she became the friend I had always wanted, my conscience when my own faltered, the light that led me home when I had lost my way.

The girl who grew into the only woman I would ever love.

But when you realize you’re more like your father than the good people who took you in and gave you a home, the only way to return their kindness is to let them go.

I let them go, got so far lost in the shadows I couldn’t remember who I was anymore. Mia never gave up on me. She fought for me, kept the light on so I’d find my way back.

And when I did, life threw us a curveball. I had to hurt Mia in order to save her.

But when my past comes back to haunt me and I almost lose her, I’m ready to fight for her…fight to find a way back into her heart while keeping the demons from my past from finishing what they started.
