Add to GoodreadsSynopsisDefining Us: The Story of Calvin & Eric is a Standalone, Full Length Novel. Can be read without reading the other books in this series.

Loving someone completely means giving them your heart, soul, body and mind. What happens when your heart and soul love someone, but your mind and body refuse to follow?

For Calvin Caldwell, being the lead guitarist of America’s hottest rock band 69 Bottles has its perks. Performing night after night with his closest friends, he finds peace with a guitar in his hands. Playing music wipes away his unimaginable past, albeit temporarily. He struggles not only with who he is as a person, but with who he wants to become and what he is hiding.

Being in love with someone certainly isn’t the problem. He’s been in love for a long time, but what defines him is what keeps him from the person he loves.

Seeing something you so desperately want, but can’t have…

Eric Richardson knows exactly what he wants out of life.
He wants to play bass with his friends because performing gives him a high better than any drug he’s ever used. Being on stage is where he feels most comfortable.

But what happens when being on stage is no longer enough to satisfy him? What happens when the person he loves, doesn’t love him in return?

You fight for it.

You define it.

You prove it.

A rock band, A tour bus, One wild ride…

This book is not recommended for anyone under the age of 18 due to the following content and more: M/M sexual content where nothing is off limits. So If two men turn you on or give you a reading rush other books can’t, then this books is for you.

Calvin has been waiting for his best friend and bandmate, Eric, to come out for a long time. He believes once that happens, he can reveal his true feelings for Eric and they can finally be together. But now that Eric is out, Calvin realizes his horrific past has left him crippled when it comes to pursuing a relationship. Calvin, torn by his love for Eric and the inability to act on it, has decided to let him go.

Eric came out to his parents a long time ago and has been intimate with guys but had taken his time to come out to his bandmates. He has patiently waited for the time to be right for him and Calvin but the times he has tried to take it further, Calvin has gotten physically ill. Now, Eric is second guessing the feelings that he was so sure were mutual.

When Calvin decides to let Eric know why they can’t be together, will Eric run away or will he be the one to help Calvin heal?

I have only read a handful of M/M books but this has to be my favorite! While reading the other books in this series, I wondered what the real story was between Calvin and Eric but I had no idea that story would include such unbelievable horror and heartache. I loved the story being told from both POVs to be able to get the full experience of such a beautiful love story about a love that is unconditional and pure regardless of what body parts they may have. I know this book is fictional but I know that some of these things do occur and to get inside the head of what a victim may be feeling in that situation was touching yet raw and had me in tears several times. This book also includes some emotionally intense and SMOKING HOT scenes between Eric and Calvin that left me needing a cold shower. Thanks to Zoey Derrick for broaching difficult topics in such a sensitive and honest way. I have loved every book in the 69 Bottles series and look forward to reading more from Ms. Derrick in the future!
