Synopsis

Make a deal with the devil and you might get what you want, but will it be what you need?

Jennifer Sylvester wants one thing, and that one thing is NOT to be Tennessee’s reigning Banana Cake Queen. Ever the perpetual good girl and obedient daughter, Jennifer is buckling under the weight of her social media celebrity, her mother’s ambitions, and her father’s puritanical mandates. Jennifer is officially desperate.

And desperate times call for Cletus Winston.

Cletus Winston is a puzzle wrapped in a mystery covered in conundrum sauce, and now he’s in a pickle. Despite being convinced of his own omniscience, extortion by the exalted Banana Cake Queen of Green Valley has taken him completely by surprise. So… what’s a maniacal mastermind to do?

Likely, the last thing you expect.

‘Beard Science’ is the third book in the Winston Brothers series, is a full-length romantic comedy novel, and can be read as a standalone.

Another winner from Penny Reid!!! I was soooo excited when I heard Cletus was getting his own book! This guy is a legend, and I was really curious at who the woman would be that would capture his heart! I knew she would have to be special, and she was!

Cletus and Jennifer are not who they appear to be. Many people in town just accept those perceptions! When you get past to the deeper levels of who Cletus and Jennifer really are, you realize how complex each is. Jennifer thinks she knows exactly what makes “Clandestine Cletus” tick. Not many people notice her, and so she’s become an expert at watching others. Most people see Cletus as handsome but not real intelligent. Not Jennifer….she knows he’s “pathologically intelligent” and “oppressively handsome” which makes him dangerous, but she has no idea that the most danger he poses to her will involve her heart.

No one really sees who Jennifer really is. She’s known as the “Banana Cake Queen” because of her…you guessed it… Banana Cake. Her mother is domineering and uses Jennifer’s talent to her own advantage as she always has. Her mother has her dress and act like some of the stereotypical southern women…bleach blonde, big hair and high heels. All Jennifer wants is to wear her overalls and be her own person. No matter what her mother does, Jennifer knows she has never fit in, but instead of getting bogged down by what others think of her, she has the best attitude. When someone called her “stranger than a vegetarian at a barbecue,” she chose to see this as being unique. When another person called her a “frigid prude,” she chose to see it as compliment for her “coolness and modesty.” Who wouldn’t love a woman like that!!! When the two unique and complex personalities of Cletus and Jennifer combine, I knew it would be magical, and it was!

I’ve been a fan of Reid’s for quite some time, and she never ceases to amaze me! She writes books that are well-written, witty, and intelligent, add in her sense of humor and quirky characters, and what you get is perfection!!!

SEX! It all started with sex, between my parents. Personally I don’t like thinking about it, but whatever works for you is a-ok with me. No judgment. The sex happened in California and much of my life also occurred in that state until I moved from the land of nuts (almonds), wine, silicon… boobs, and heavy traffic to the southeast US. Like most writers I like to write, but let’s get back to sex. Eventually I married and gave birth to 2 small people-children (boy-6, girl-4 as of this writing).

By day I’m a biomedical researcher with focus on rare diseases. By night I’m a knitter, sewer, lino block carver, fabric printer, soap maker, and general crafter. By the wee hours of the morning or when I’m intoxicated I love to listen to the voices in my head and let them tell me stories. I hope you enjoy their stories.
