Nothing good comes after the third date.

See, date three is the crucial point when things get real, which is exactly why I bounce out the door, twiddling my fingers at whatever poor boy I’ve left behind. Because if I stick around, one of three things will happen: he’ll profess his undying love, he gets weird and stalky, or I’ll go crazy. Like, Sid and Nancy crazy. Like, chase-him-through-the-streets-begging-him-to-love-me crazy.

Seriously, it’s better for everyone this way.

So when I meet Bodie, I figure it’ll be the same as it ever was. It doesn’t matter that he doesn’t put a single string on me. Doesn’t matter that he’s funny and smart and jacked and can play my body like a grand piano. Because even though I’m built for love, love has only carved me up like a Christmas ham.

Resistance is something I can only hang on to for so long, and he has persistence in spades. But my heart isn’t as safe as I want to believe, and neither is his. And the second I ignore my cardinal rule is the second I stand to lose him forever.

Bad Penny by Staci Hart is the perfect combination of romance, steam, and humor….one of those books that you cannot put down once you start reading it! Penny doesn’t date one person more than 3 times, and she certainly doesn’t fall in love. That what she tells herself and her friends. But, she hasn’t dated Bodie yet! He’s about to make her question that pesky three date rule!

I love the title Staci Hart gave this book! Penny is bad, but not in a negative way! She is strong, independent, and a free spirit. She never keeps the same hair color, and has lots of ink. If you didn’t know that Penny was a woman, you would think her character was a guy! I loved, loved how the author flipped that stereotype. However, underneath that strong, beautiful exterior, Penny still has the same heart that was broken back in high school by her first love. He has completely jaded her in the romance department. She has now closed off the deepest part of herself off from men. She can’t totally trust her heart, so she doesn’t get attached which is a shame because Penny is 100 percent awesome! She has one of those personalities that completely change a room when she walks in. Hart did a fabulous with her character…she truly jumps off the pages and into your heart.

Bodie was also a different character. Who knew a software engineer could be so darn sexy and hot? Holy cow…the man oozes sex appeal! He has definitely come a long way from high school. I just love it when someone whom people discarded or didn’t think was important in high school becomes a success. It is the best revenge!!!! But, there is more to Bodie than just his looks. He has the best sense of humor, as did Penny, and the biggest heart. His feelings run deeply for Penny, and I admired his patience with her. He certainly doesn’t give up easily!

A romance has to have a great storyline and characters full of life and color. This one had both and so much more. I loved the little twist in the story that comes up in the beginning. For me, it just deepened my love for Bodie! The make-up scene was INCREDIBLE! For a writer to use math terminology and make it sexy takes immense talent, and Staci Hart has that in spades!!! My very favorite part of the book was the epilogue. She brings things full circle, and holy cow did she make me swoon! Staci Hart is a new author for me, and she is rapidly moving up my list of favorite authors. I can always count on her to leave me with a book I won’t soon forget! Looking forward to the next one!!!!

About the Author

Staci has been a lot of things up to this point in her life — a graphic designer, an entrepreneur, a seamstress, a clothing and handbag designer, a waitress. Can’t forget that. She’s also been a mom, with three little girls who are sure to grow up to break a number of hearts. She’s been a wife, though she’s certainly not the cleanest, or the best cook. She’s also super, duper fun at a party, especially if she’s been drinking whiskey.

From roots in Houston to a seven year stint in Southern California, Staci and her family ended up settling somewhere in between and equally north, in Denver. They are new enough that snow is still magical. When she’s not writing, she’s reading, sleeping, gaming, or designing graphics.
