about the book(2)

Trixsters Anonymous Ebook Sassy, dramatic, hot-headed are just some of the words used to describe me since the time I was born. A few little mishaps growing up and my mom has a running ‘Emerson Baker’ prayer circle, and I have the reputation of a spit-fire that won’t go away.

I prefer the terms loyal, passionate, fiery, and possibly a bit impulsive.

So when my best friend proposes the concept of starting our own business, I jump on the idea.

CHEATERS BEWARE!

That should be our motto… because your secrets can’t stay hidden for long with Trixsters Anonymous on the case.

We are the moonlighting duo hell-bent on helping those who suspect their lovers are cheating. We’re professional, careful, and completely anonymous…What could possibly go wrong?

Walker Scott… that’s what goes wrong.

I never stood a chance against the gorgeous, hazel-eyed, fiercely determined man who storms into my life and completely blindsides me.

He’s the proof that opposites attract—and when they do, the chemistry is explosive.

Did I mention he’s also a detective? A very, very, talented detective?

Pretty soon being a Trixster is a lot more complicated.

~5 Stars~

I totally fell in love with this book and the characters! Once you meet Emi and Walker, you will fall in love with them the way I did! Plan on doing nothing else but reading until you are done!

Emi is a sassy spitfire, and I couldn’t help but me transfixed by her. How could you not love a woman whose mother has had a prayer circle going for her since she was 18? She’s the best friend any girl could have. This woman is loyal with a capital L, and she’s determined and passionate! Now, she and best friend, Maren, have embarked on a new journey, starting a business helping women and men find proof of their partner’s infidelities. Keep in mind, she and Maren have no prior experience with the exception of following Maren’s ex fiancé to get the goods on him, nor do they have a PI’s license. As you can imagine, lots of hysterical laughter will ensue.

Walker is a former MP, and he’s come back to Charleston to join the force as a detective. He’s practical and logical, all the things Emi isn’t. You know what they say, opposites attract, and boy, there is electricity from the first time these two lay eyes on each other. He is drop dead sexy and is all man. Once these two come together, it’s on! Lots of passion and steam, but if any two belonged together, it’s Emi and Walker.

Even though these two share almost everything with each other, Emi doesn’t share her new business venture with Walker. Being the straight cop that he is, will he be able to handle the truth of Emi’s business, and we all know that can stay hidden forever!

The romance between Emi and Walker is the main story, but what I loved was that it was about friendship too, Walker and Marcus’s friendship and Emi and Maren’s friendship. These two ladies are hilarious, some of the schemes they come up with will have you laughing out loud. I just loved their friendship and loyalty to one another!

I have to give a shout out Sanders for setting this story in Charleston. I, myself am a Carolina girl who lived in Charleston for many, many years, and I still consider it my home. So, it was the BEST SURPRISE that the book took place there! There is no place quite like Charleston, so I love it when someone shows what a special place it is! I can’t wait to see what Sanders has in store next for us!

I’m a contemporary romance writer, who likes her men tattooed, her women independent and her coffee strong.

My stories are all about love, but some are of the romantic kind, some of the sad kind and others of the very steamy kind. So if you can stand drama, foul language and sex, you came to the right place.

Love, Annie

Monster Among the Roses by Linda Kage Release Blast + Excerpt + Review + Giveaway

Will you dare to gaze upon the monster among the roses?

MONSTER AMONG THE ROSES

Fairy Tale Quartet #1

Linda Kage

Releasing July 24, 2017

synopsis

“Do you know how to get to the rose garden?”

“No, you can’t go there. A monster lives there.”

Shaw Hollander is desperate.

Broke, unemployed, and determined to help his ailing mother, he falls on the good graces of a wealthy benefactor who is willing to give Shaw a job at his mansion in order to pay off his mother’s debts. Suddenly finding himself surrounded by lavish riches, he has no idea what his duties truly entail until he’s sent to the rose garden and meets the tragically mutilated Isobel.

This Beauty and the Beast story holds true to the core of the fable while shaking off the element of fantasy and dragging it into present day reality. Shaw and Isobel are ready to let you climb into their four-wheel-drive pickup and take a ride with them into their version of happily ever after, but only if you first dare to gaze upon the monster among the roses.

excerpt

Great. I was lost. Shading my hand over my eyes, I decided the far right should take me in the general direction I wanted to go. So I went that way, only to end up at the edge of the house, but not where I’d started, and not close enough to the rose garden to get me inside.

Strangely enough, however, a boy played outside, using sidewalk chalk to color a picture of…what the hell was he drawing? Maybe some kind of dying animal with blood gushing from its side and an arrow sticking out of its back.

It didn’t look right, whatever it was.

I shook my head and jerked my gaze from the disturbingly morbid sketch. “Hey, kid.”

The boy jumped and looked up, hopping to his feet and backing away from me as I were the scary one.

No idea who he was; he looked too young to be Mr. Nash’s son from the photos I’d seen, plus he had white blond hair, the complete opposite shade of the young man in all the pictures in Mr. Nash’s office. But he was here, so he’d have to do.

Wanting to appear as non-threatening as possible, I smile and waved. “Hey. Sorry for bothering you, but do you know how to get to the rose garden?”

That must’ve been the wrong question to ask. His face drained of color. “No,” he said, shaking his head. “You can’t go there.”

What? “Why not?”

“A monster lives in there. Half her face is melted off. She eats the thorns from the roses so she can spit them at people, stabbing them in the neck to slice their throat open until they bleed out and die.”

O…kay.

Somehow, I’d stumbled across one of the children of the corn. Nice.

Lifting my eyebrows, I drew my own step in reverse. Time to retreat. “Dude, that’s gruesome.”

Please don’t kill me. Please don’t kill me. Please don’t kill me.

He gave a serious nod. “It’s true. My mom’ll tell you she’s real too.”

“Oh yeah?” Relieved he wasn’t claiming he’d sprouted from Satan’s cabbage patch but actually had a mother, I glanced around for this wise, all-knowing parent of his. Maybe she could tell me how to get to the conservatory. “Who’s your mom?”

“The cook,” he said, puffing up his chest as if that were the most important title in the house. “She’s worked here for fifteen years. She knows everything about this place there is to know. So…don’t go into the roses. You won’t come out alive. Lewis, the groundskeeper, doesn’t even go in there.”

Aha! So this place did have a gardener. I knew it.

I took a second to ponder why I was being sent to garden then, when Mr. Nash already paid someone to maintain the place. But if Lewis refused to go into the roses, as the kid had said, maybe it was rumored to be haunted or something, and that was where I came in. Then again, why wouldn’t Mr. Nash just hire a new groundskeeper who wasn’t so scared and superstitious? Then I stopped pondering the whys. It wasn’t my place to question strange, rich people and their strange, oddball orders. I was just here to do what I was told and save my mom.

Nodding gravely to the boy, I said, “Thanks for the warning, kid. But I think I’ll take my chances. Which way?”

He looked at me as if he’d never see me again because I was headed forth to my death, then he lifted his hand and quietly pointed toward another opening in the path of bushes.

“Thanks.” I nodded and got out of there before some of his creepiness started rubbing off.

Fortunately, he’d steered me in the right direction. I landed right at the outdoor entrance into the glass gazebo. Propping the door open, I carted my supplies inside and then paused to breathe deeply.

But fuck me, it smelled good in here. You didn’t have to be a flower enthusiast for this garden to amaze you. It was like the holy shrine of roses. A hallowed kind of reverence filled my chest. Haunted or not, I liked it. It felt peaceful and yet revitalizing.

Suddenly intimidated because I didn’t want to mess anything up in such a perfect place, my hands shook as I flipped back to the pages about rose care. The more I skimmed, however, the more confused I became.

These roses didn’t need a lick of my attention. They were all in excellent condition as if someone already tended to them. Maybe creepy kid had been wrong, and Lewis the groundskeeper came in here hourly to care for them.

Still…What the hell?

I frowned and slid my finger along the silken petals of a blood red rose. Perfectly pruned, weeded, and watered. It was as flawless as a thing could get.

But I couldn’t go tell Mr. Nash they didn’t need anything, could I? What if he fired me for lack of work to do, or because he thought I was lazy and lying about the roses not needing care?

I looked around again, searching for anything to water, or clip, or re-soil. It was crazy how thriving every single flower looked.

Maybe this was some kind of test, and Mr. Nash wanted me to fail. What if he’d never intended for me to work for him and the contract I’d signed to save my mom was being burned in the fireplace in this office as I stood here like a dumbass with nothing to weed.

Confused and worried, and growing a little angry, I scowled at a wall full of pink vine roses growing to my right. But they were honestly too pretty to be glared at, so my mood settled.

I bet Mom would love them. She was a fan of pink. And flowers. Plus, these were the good-smelling kind. I’d be a good son if I brought home such a flower to her. And it seemed as if they grew in abundance, not as if they were one of the rare breeds Mr. Nash had spoken of. So I reached for a bloom to pluck it from the vine without even thinking beyond how much it’d make my mother smile.

Behind me, a voice growled, “What the hell do you think you’re doing?”

Jumping half out of my skin because I’d been certain no one had been in here with me, I whirled around only to gasp, “Shit!”

The creepy cook’s son hadn’t been lying.

In front of me stood an irate woman with half her face melted off.

5-star-a

~~~~A Million Beautiful Stars~~~~
OMG…ya’ll this is one of my favorite books of 2017 and really one of my favorites EVER! It’s a book that transported me to another place, a place of magic, not fantasy, but the magic of finding your soulmate in someplace you never expected to.
In the opening of the book, Shaw has gone to wealthy Mr. Nash to beg forgiveness of his mother’s debts, and in exchange, he will do whatever Mr. Nash wants him to do. Much to his relief, Mr. Nash just wants him to befriend his daughter, Isobel. It won’t be easy to be her friend. She is the master of shutting herself off from others, but she felt like she had to because of the scarring on her body from a fire.
Isobel was one of the bravest fictional characters I’ve ever come across! She was a smaller woman, but her personality and demeanor made her appear “big and vibrant.” (Shaw’s words). Underneath her toughness, she was fragile. As Shaw pointed out, people judge others, often mistakenly, by their outward appearances, and that shaped how you felt about that person. With Isobel, her face was the first thing people saw, that was her vulnerable spot. So, she held her trust and the best parts of herself from others for her own self-preservation.
I fell so hard for Shaw, I mean, who wouldn’t? He definitely was easy on the eyes, and from the very first moment he laid eyes on Isobel, he was a goner. His job as her friend became so much more. From the very beginning, he wanted her to like him. He was captivated by her, and he always challenged her and kept her on her toes. There was a deep goodness in him, down to his very soul. He was able to see the very best and beautiful parts of Isobel.
Not only were the characters fabulous, but the story was as well. I loved the slow pace of their relationship. They both discovered different parts of themselves through each other. Some of their early conversations were done through notes and books, which was AWESOME! The slow burn between them was part of the magic of their story. The setting was so well-described that I was there walking the long, beautiful hallways with them and smelling Isobel’s precious roses. Books that truly take me out of my reality for just a little bit are some of the best books, and as I said early, this is one of the best books I’ve read!
I loved that this was based on Beauty and the Beast, but the writer made this one ALL HER OWN. I can always tell when a writer enjoyed writing his or her book. That was obvious in this book. One of my favorite things was the “Behind Monster Among the Roses.” She included her inspiration for different characters and aspects of the story. I loved that! It made the story complete. It gave me a little insight to how her mind works, and I really want to live in Linda Kage’s mind for just a little while! The epilogue was epic as she sets us up for her next book in the series! I cannot wait! But, be warned, don’t plan on doing anything else until you read the last page!!!! Truly magical, beautiful book!
HIS FIGHT TO BE WHOLE
Years ago, Solomon LaRue’s life was ripped apart when his fiancée was taken from him brutally and without cause. After, he vowed to never love again and put all of his energy into defending New Orleans from the evil Voodoo priestess out to destroy everything he held dear. Until a beautiful and maddening witch from the Quarter comes into his life and shakes everything up. Now, he thinks of nothing but her, and despite the dangers surrounding his family, he can’t help but alter his plans to make sure she stays safe. At all costs.
HER REASON FOR BEING
For most of her life, Minka Verdin thought she was nothing more than a gifted fortune teller until a life-altering experience brought her into her powers. Now, honed and hardened to be the weapon she knows she can be, she has no time for lust and love in her life. Unfortunately, a certain sexy-as-sin werewolf occupies her thoughts—and her heart—day in and day out. Minka knows that the survival of many is always more important than the safety of one, and she is more than willing to sacrifice herself so that those she loves remain untouched. But Solomon is having none of that and reminds her that there is no force as strong as the magic between them
EXCERPT
Was it worse to want someone you couldn’t have? Or to never know that kind of longing?
Minka wasn’t sure which was more awful. She knew that no matter how much she hungered for Solomon’s touch or craved his attention, that she would never be his. That kind of knowledge did strange things to a person.
Her heart had jumped in her throat to find him there. It had felt like forever since she’d seen his face and those brilliant blue eyes. All the LaRues and Chiassons had them, but Solomon’s were brighter than the others’.
And his hair. The dark blond strands were laced with pale brown that made her want to sink her hands into the locks.
His face was all hard angles and ruggedness that she longed to touch and kiss. The shadow of dark whiskers on his jaw made her stomach flutter and her skin prickle with awareness.
Then there was that body of his. Could anyone wear jeans like Solomon? The denim clung to his trim waist and hips, curving over his fine ass before encasing his long legs. Though it was his ability to wear a plain white shirt over the impeccably hard sinew of his chest and wide shoulders that could make her heart miss a beat.
He was simply mouth-watering. The complete package…and utterly out of reach.
ONE
Carly
   “Girl.” My best friend leveled me with serious eyes, one hand holding a lock of blond hair that was wrapped around a searing hot curling wand above her head. “You need to get some action before those bits turn to dust.”
   I burst out in a laugh. “My vagina will just incinerate and float away, huh?”
   “What do they say…” She tipped her head to the side. “If you don’t use it, you lose it?”
   I shook my head, watching as she unrolled the curl and let it bounce into a perfect ringlet as she got ready for her Valentine’s Day date tonight. Lord knows with whom this time. Saying Selma was a free agent was putting it lightly.
   “I’m too busy for the kind of trouble you get up to at all hours of the night,” I finally answered. “You know, someday all of that natural beauty—” She wagged a finger at my face “—is going to crack. That young virginal thing you got going on won’t last forever. Why you wasting all your youth with your head in a textbook? You have to live, Carly!”
   I crossed my arms, thinking it was moments like these that made me both love and despise Selma for her natural, dark-eyed beauty and that effortless attitude she lived her life with.
   “I’m not like you.” I finally shook my head. “I don’t do well with strangers or in groups or in public places on holidays…really, anywhere with people. I just don’t do well with people.”
   “Bullshit.” Selma dropped another curl, twisting it softly then setting the wand on the counter. “Anyone can date now, no more awkward first dates or getting-to-know-you conversations. I downloaded this dating app. You just swipe right if the guy is a hottie, left if he looks like a douchenozzle. Welcome to dating in the modern world.”
   “A dating app? You downloaded a dating app?”
   “You know I like to spice things up in my life.”
   I huffed, a little incredulous. I thought online dating was for nerds… Well, I guess I was technically a nerd, considering all I did was go to class, study, sleep, repeat. While Selma was partying the night away at clubs, kissing strange, sexy men, I was up late in a college sweatshirt and pajama pants, poring over anatomy books. With just one more year to go in my biology degree, the end was in sight. All the hard work of the last few years would finally pay off with a diploma and a set of skills that could allow me to get a job at any doctor’s office around the country as a physician’s assistant. The coursework had been brutal—I’d known it would be—but I was too far in to throw it away now, even if my grades were at the top of my class.
   “I’m not using a dating app. I can’t even think about dating right now.”
   “It’s not dating, exactly…” Selma pushed me in front of the mirror and picked up the wand, twisting a lock of my hair in her fingers and wrapping it around the barrel of the wand. “It’s more like…hookups.”
   “Hookups.” I scrunched my nose, catching her eyes in the mirror.
   “Yeah, you know, burn off some steam. Sex releases anti-stress chemicals to your brain, you know, and people who have an orgasm within thirty minutes of having a test perform up to five points higher. Five points! You need to fuck off some steam, Carly.”
   “Oh my God.” I covered my face with one hand as she continued to curl random sections of my hair.
   “I mean it. When’s the last time you got any play at all?” She twirled a soft lock at my face, adding a wave until it lay nicely with the rest.
   “Uh…” I paused, pushing back through old dusty cobwebs to the last time I’d even let a man kiss me. “Freshman year, maybe?”
   “Oh my God. You’re practically a born-again virgin. We need to get you that app.” Selma set the wand down on the counter. “Finished.”
   I glanced up, shocked she’d curled my entire head of hair and was now separating the ringlets until they were only softly defined and falling over one shoulder.
   “Your hair looks too good to waste.” Selma swiped my phone and held it up. “Smile, and give me that look in your eye.”
   “What look?”
   “That one that says you’re really horny but still a good girl.”
   I narrowed my eyes.
   “No, that looks like you might swipe their wallet when they’re finished. Softer. Less murder-y, more seductive.”
    “Selma!” I squealed, swiping the camera just as the flash went off.
    “Wait, let me see. That was a good one!” Selma pulled the phone from my hand, swiping to the last picture taken. “Look.” She thrust the picture into my face. “You look fucking hot. Let’s find you a man tonight.”
   “No, Selma.” My asshole friend spun, my phone in hand, and shuffled out the bathroom door, her fingers tapping a hundred words a second as she went. “Selma!”
   She stopped dead in her tracks, turned to me in the middle of my studio apartment kitchen, and handed me the phone. “There.”
   Her smile was big. I wanted to bitch-slap it off her face.
   “What did you do?”
   “Created your account, uploaded that pic. Now you’re ready to swipe your way to a lay, baby.”
   “Jesus, Selma. Why are we friends?”
   “Probably because I challenge your very boring and predictable nature.” She twirled a fresh curl at my temple. “And you love me.”
   I only grunted in reply, my eyes focused on the screen, the first handsome candidate to show up on my phone. “I have no idea what I’m doing.”
   “Swipe left. He looks like a businessman wannabe.”
   “Wannabe? What are you, an expert at typing men on this thing?”
   “Swipe enough.” She shrugged, peering over my shoulder to glance at the next potential date.
   “Ew!” We both swiped left, clearing the older gentleman with the overgrown mustache off our screen.
   “He’s not bad.” Selma paused on the third, tilting her head. “If you squint.”
   I groaned, swiping left. Then left. Then another left.
   “I’ve learned one thing from this app tonight,” I said.
    “What’s that?” Selma was swiping left for me, the frown growing deeper with every swipe.
   “That we’re surrounded by a million really creepy guys. It’s no wonder I haven’t found a date in ages.”
   Selma nodded, taking in my words. “Maybe it’s time I move. When I visited my cousin in Denver, you should have seen the hot guys. Like, h-o-double-t hot.”
   “Well, I’m deleting it. All that’s on here is mountain men and college guys looking to score more action. Not interested.”
   “Wait, what about him?” She paused, thumb hovering over the handsome face lit with a one-sided cocky smile. His eyes were a clear shade of ocean blue, hair dark and a little mussed, with a dark smattering of sexy five-o’clock shadow across his angled jaw.
   “Nuh-uh. He’s married.”
   “What? No way! What makes you say that?” Selma squinted, as if trying to read the signals through the screen.
   “Because no man that beautiful is still on the market at his age.”
   “His age? He’s like thirty-five, tops,” she scoffed.
   “Exactly. Married, divorced with kids, something.”
   “Well, okay, then. What do you care? This is just a hookup anyway, remember? Not like you have to worry about him proposing on the first date or anything.”
   “Selma…” I groaned, ready to swipe left on his gorgeous, smug ass.
   “Nope.” Selma slid her thumb across my screen, swiping right. “Got him.”
   She grinned up at me triumphantly.
   “Oh my God, what are you doing!” I wiped left, left, up, across. “Where are the settings? Can I undo that right swipe?”
   She laughed, walking back down the hall to the bathroom. “Nope. No undoing!”
   I followed quickly on her heels, stopping right next to her in front of her post at the bathroom mirror. Just then, the little app chimed in my hand. An alert popped up that said a match was made.
   Oh, shit.
   “Oh, you are such an asshole, Selma Martinez.”
   “You got a match! That means he likes you, too.” She nodded, taking every second of this painfully embarrassing moment in stride.
   “That wasn’t even a good picture of me! I hate you.”
   “Or you could say thank you.” She winked. “Now send that boy a message.”
   “What? No way. I’m not interested. Maybe you should go out with him.”
   “Nah, I’ll take one for the team. Your vag needs some love, and I think Mr. Sex right there is going to give it to you.”
   “I’m not going.”
   “You’re an idiot if you don’t.”
   I nearly replied that she was an idiot for even downloading the app when another chime popped up.
    New message alert.
   “Oh Jesus.”
   “Ooh, he’s really into you.” Selma snatched the phone from my hands and opened the message.
   “Wait! Don’t answer it!”
   “Too late, it already shows him that I’ve seen it—or you’ve seen it.” She waggled her eyebrows at me. “It says, Would love to meet tonight. I’ll just reply…” She started tapping at warp speed.
   “No! No!” I yanked my phone from her. “Don’t reply.”
   “Well, you have to. Otherwise, that would just be rude.”
   “Rude. Like I care if I’m rude to a stranger, Selma!” I couldn’t contain the shrieky frustration lacing my voice.
    “Well, I just wasn’t raised that way, stranger or not.”
    I shook my head, finding myself again stupefied by all things Selma. “You’re unbelievable.”
   She caught my eye in the mirror, refusing to say a word. I narrowed my eyes, taking in the stubborn set of her jaw, the way her eyes flared with simmering irritation.
   “Fine. I’ll answer him. I’ll tell him he was a mistake swipe or something.”
   “What? You can’t say that.”
   “Why not?” There were too many rules for online dating, exactly the reason it was better I’d avoided it.
    “Way to kick a guy when he’s down. No, I would not like to see you tonight. Actually, I think you’re a dog and wouldn’t touch you with a ten-foot pole. Have a nice night!”
   “Well, I wouldn’t be that harsh.”
   Selma shook her head, finishing one last curl in her hair before placing the wand on the counter and unplugging it. She spun, pushing fingers through her hair until the curls bounced and bobbed with enviable volume. “Tell him the truth—you’re a busy college student with a very large stick up your ass.”
   “And with a nosy friend who doesn’t know how to keep her hands off other people’s property,” I chimed in.
   “Sounds about right. Listen, chica…” Selma paused, catching her reflection in the mirror and adjusting her boobs in the cups of her bra to get more oomph. Her word. Not mine. “I’ve got to meet Pratt outside in twenty minutes. I hope you give yourself a break tonight. You deserve it. Give that vag a little workout, and you’ll feel better in the morning.” She spritzed some of my perfume in a cloud around her. “I’ll call you later when I get home…or in the morning.” She paused. “It probably won’t be until the morning.” She winked, then placed a kiss on my cheek. “Let loose tonight, Carly. God knows you need it.”
   She turned, blowing me one last kiss before sauntering out of my apartment in her chunky, laced boots and skirt.
   I glanced back down at my phone, then to the puppy pajamas that fell to the tops of my bare feet.
   I sighed.
   I did need some fun.
   I was ready for a life outside of textbooks and professors and exams and essays.
   I hovered over the keyboard, not knowing what in the hell to say before I typed quickly.
   Sure. Where and when?
   Before I could think twice, I hit send.
   Maybe Selma was right. If I didn’t use it, I would lose it. Perhaps not so much my vag but my sexuality, my sense of self, my free spirit.
   I grinned, shutting down the app and tossing it on the bed, not caring if the handsome guy with the cocky smile ever replied or not. I was having fun making the butterflies in my stomach jump all on my own.
“You wanted to give this a try. This, us, thing.”
“I do.” He scrubbed a hand over the bristle of his chin and she fought back the urge to drool. Why did he have to look like a damn Brawny advertisement during their serious discussion?
She joined him on the couch. “Okay. Let’s do it. I’ve made a list of terms and conditions–“
“No terms, no conditions.” His mouth was a hard line of determination.
He slid closer–so that her knee grazed the firm muscle of his leg. Even that slight touch sent an electric spark surging between her thighs. He had her. It was over.
A one hit K. O.
“Then what–“
“You’ll belong to me–“
Belong seems a little caveman-ish–“
“We’re together. That’s it.” He cupped his strong hand around her nape and every ounce of air in her body was gone. There was only him, the mintiness of his breath, and the scorching heat of his firm lips as he kissed her.
She responded to him without thinking, deepening the touch until she lost herself in the swirl of his tongue, the taste of his mouth.
When he pulled away, the room was spinning, moving in slow motion circles and all she could see was the handsome face in front of her. If this was the hard sell, then she’d fallen for it.
Hook, line, and sucker.
Wallflowers: Three of a Kind (Wallflowers Book #1) by CP Smith Review!
Title: Wallflowers: Three of a Kind
Series: Wallflowers #1
Author: CP Smith
Genre: Romantic Suspense/Comedy
 Christie’s Review
5 ++ Stars
Wallflowers: Three of a Kind is a fantastic combination of romance, steam, family, friendship, and mystery! And, it’s probably one of the most well-written books I have read as well! Calla Lily Armstrong has spent her entire life never getting close to anyone with the exception of her loving, eccentric aunts. Now, she has decided to finally step out of her comfort zone and really live her life. She meets two women, Poppy and Sienna who work with her, and the three women really bond and form their own group, The Wallflowers.
“It hit me this mornin’ while I was starin’ at a wisteria vine that I’d trained myself to be a certain way, and if I wanted a different life, I needed to tear down my walls and spread my proverbial roots.”
However, she not quite sure about romance yet, although she wants to try, especially when she sees her new neighbor, Devin. He looks like he just walked out of one of her historical romances. The fireworks are fierce, but she is afraid she will get burned. Devin has come to Savannah from Atlanta working as a private detective, and when he lays eyes on Calla, he sets out to make her his. Just when you think they are on their way to HEA, a mystery pops up, and her life is in danger. Devin and Cali will have some obstacles to overcome to have their HEA.
I loved all the characters in this book. Cali first appears fragile, but with the help of her aunts and her friends, she isn’t the same woman at the end of the book. She and Devin bring out the best in one another. I ADORED the secondary characters. While the book is Cali and Devin’s love story, there is so much more going on. When the Wallflowers decide to get involved in Devin’s missing person’s case, this is when all the fun begins.
Smith has written an incredibly witty romantic mystery. Once I started, I couldn’t stop reading. I love when a writer is a reader herself, and Smith definitely is. I loved her references to historical romances. Her use of metaphors concerning wallflowers and bringing them back into the story was brilliant. Using CP Smith’s own words, she has created “a shining diamond readers could immerse themselves in for years to come.” I cannot wait to read the rest in the series.
