Synopsis
Tossing a middle finger to Macon, Georgia as I made my way to Nashville was always the dream. Sing country music, go on tour, top the charts—with my popularity growing every day, I was on my way.
But then a gust of wind blew up your skirt, and those white cotton panties had me hooked. I didn’t know your name, and you turned down every attempt I tried to throw your way. But I knew you were different, even though you told me I was the same.
“Friends” is what you offered, and I played by your rules, but, Adelaide Hatfield, you have to know, from that day, it was only you.
I just hope I can make you see how much you mean to me before we both drown in the sorrow of what heartbreak can truly be.

Fantastic story of love, trust, second chances, and finding the things in life that are worth living for! Addie is the daughter of a pastor and is a college student who has plans and goals for her life. She is also extremely independent. She is certainly not looking for a relationship when Axton enters into her life. A chance encounter on the side of a road will have huge impacts on their lives…some wonderful and joyous and some painful. But, they will definitely not be the same people they were before.
This wasn’t your typical romance in which the female character just falls instantly for the male character. She is definitely headstrong and knows what she wants for her life. Right now, that doesn’t include a relationship. Axton does affect her though. She makes it clear to him in the beginning that she just wants to be friends, but that doesn’t stop Axton from trying to win her heart. He knows Addie has changed his life, and he also has plans for his life, becoming a famous country musician. He wants to include Addie in that, but she fights her attraction. At times, I felt like she was a little rough on him. I understood that she was afraid of her feelings for him and how to include him in her dreams, but sometimes I just wanted to shake some sense into her.
There are many misunderstandings which lead to some sad moments in the book, but it was all a part of the growing process these two had to go through to be better for each other. Just know this isn’t your typical romance, but if you are like me, you will find that really refreshing. I haven’t had the opportunity to read anything by Marie James, but I’m really glad I found her.
