I’ve watched him for years.

Every role.

Every episode.

He was every woman’s fantasy.

The famous actor.

Until he showed up at my front door.

Wanting something from me.

Something I wasn’t sure I could ever give.

It wasn’t safe outside my bubble.

So, I let him inside instead.

All the way in.

And once he was there,

I wanted to keep him.

Even if that meant risking everything.

My safety.

My anonymity.

Even my heart.

He thought he knew how the story would play out.

But I was taking our love off script.

“Longest. Day. Ever,” I murmured as I searched for a vending machine on my way out the door. Gavin was only a few steps behind me and his responding chuckle caused me to flip him off over my shoulder.

“I warned you, new girl.” His tone was mocking. The crew hadn’t been quick to remember my name so half of them had referred to me as ‘new girl’ all day, saying it like they genuinely thought it was my name.

“Bite me, Hollywood.”

“No more Mister?”

I shook my head, making a beeline for the bank of vending machines by the elevators. “Nope. I’ve lost all respect for you today, so you’re just plain Hollywood now.”

“Your words have the power to wound, and you’ve cut me deep.” He was pouring on the sarcasm.

“Not my fault you flubbed your lines almost as much as me. So professional of you.”

I stopped at one of the machines and started plunking in quarters, not caring what it spat out as long as it was cold and loaded with caffeine.

Gavin moved to lean against the humming machine, tilting his body at an angle and smiling that damn radiant smile of his. “We all have off days; today was one of mine.”

I ignored him until half of my ice-cold beverage was consumed, then gave him my attention, squinting. “So, you’re trying to tell me it usually goes a lot smoother than that for you?”

“I rarely mess up. Sure, we all have those awkward moments where something in the script sounds dirtier than it’s meant to or a squeaky leather couch makes an unsavory noise and we all break character to laugh, but that’s about it.”

“Why today, then?” I felt my whole face flush as an idea hit me. “Oh shit, was I so bad it distracted you and made you mess up?” Dear Lord, kill me now.

“Of course not. You were great.” He stepped over and threw an arm around my shoulders, turning us toward the elevators. “I told you. It was just one of those days—no one’s fault but my own.”

He walked me to my car and held the door open as I folded myself into the seat with an exhausted groan.

“See you in the morning, Kaiti girl,” he said, mixing my actual name with part of my new nickname in a way that I really liked. Or maybe it was the way it sounded coming from him.

“Good night, Gavin. Thanks for making today as stress-free as possible. I don’t even want to think about how it would have gone without you looking out for me.”

“That’s what friends are for.” He closed the door with a soft click and turned to leave as I hurried to roll down the window.

“Hey, Hollywood?”

“Yeah?” He spun back to face me.

“Do friends also mess up their lines on purpose so their nervous, less-talented friend doesn’t feel like a dolt in front of everyone?”

He gave me a crooked smile. “Are you saying you messed up on purpose? For me?” He pointed to his chest. “Well, that was awfully sweet of you, Kaiti. Thanks for looking out.”

He walked away before I could respond.

I really enjoyed this book! It had a unique story line and kept my interest from beginning to end.

Kaiti had a tough childhood but she has managed to make a life for herself. She has a best friend that is all the family she needs and is content with keeping her life boring and safe which keeps her anxiety at bay. But one day at the mall food court changes everything for her when a director for a major TV show spots her and decides he has to get her to come in for an audition. She is able to tell the director no but when he gets the star of said show to convince her, all bets are off.

Gavin is doing his boss, the director, a favor trying to get an unknown to come in for an audition. He is shocked by the instant connection he feels with Kaiti and loves that she says whatever comes to mind instead of trying to impress him. When he finally persuades the little spitfire to audition and she gets the part, he becomes determined to also convince her that his interest in her is real and not part of the script.

Will this unlikely pair be able to make it work on and off screen?

This was a very cute, funny story. There are some serious issues involved as well and I loved the way they are handled. Gavin and Kaiti are great characters and I love the banter between these two. Most of the secondary characters were fantastic as well. This is my first book by this author but won’t be my last.

Anna Paige is the author of the Broken series; Broken Ground, Flawlessly Broken, and All the Broken Pieces, as well as Chasing Kade, the first installment in the Thrill of the Chase series and Off Script — a brand new standalone, due out in December 2017.

She lives in a rural town in North Carolina where the only activity is the rhythmic color change of the solitary stoplight and a very real threat of being carried away by mosquitoes. The only alternative to terminal boredom is writing, making life interesting if only on the page.

Anna is happily married, with one amazing son and a pair of hilarious pets. When she’s not writing, she’s trying to make a dent in her TBR pile. Given that she’s constantly adding new titles to the list, the chances of her ever finishing are slim.

And she’s completely fine with that.

He thinks he’s too big for me. I like a challenge.

On my 25th birthday I received a letter. My mother had left me a piece of land in her will– the farm I grew up on as a child. Her last request was that I restore it… and how could I say no?

So I returned to my little town full of big memories. Nothing has changed here.

Except for Grant Werther.

When we were kids, I barely saw him. Now I can’t miss him. The guy is HUGE; all muscle and beard, like some hardened mountain man. He’s intimidating… and definitely sexy, in an alpha-male-cowboy kind of way.

Turns out his dad owns part of my farm and he’s got the papers to prove it. That means I can’t do anything without Grant’s approval. On top of that, this jerk says I’m too “city girl” to be here.

And the way he openly stares at my ass in my cut-off jeans makes it clear what he thinks I’d be good at.

He’s the biggest man I’ve ever seen and I admit, I’m curious what he’s hiding in his boxers.

I didn’t know he’d catch me peeking.

Now he won’t stop teasing me. He keeps saying I could never handle him, that he’d break me in two. I know I don’t have to prove him wrong…

But I want to.

This is a full length novel with a HEA and NO cheating!

*****5 STARS*****

I loved this story!! It was a mix of friends to lovers/second chance/hate to love romance story rolled into one.

Sasha Bluebell and Grant Werther were childhood friends but drifted apart during their high school years. As soon as high school was over, Sasha left that country town behind and never looked back. But after the death of her mother, she must return to her childhood home and prepare it for sale. However, when she shows up Grant is already there with the shocking news that he owns half the property because of a loan his father made to her mother. Sasha is not happy with this information because now she has to work alongside Grant to fix up the place plus he doesn’t seem to remember their past friendship at all.

Grant was always attracted to Sasha but she ignored him through high school and left right after. Now she’s back but still thinks she’s too good for their small town and he has to deal with her attitude while fixing up the farm. But the unexpected intense chemistry takes Grant and Sasha both by storm and all their plans may be out the window. Will the city girl and country boy have what it takes to go the distance or will their differences be too much to overcome?

I loved every hot and dirty minute of this book!! Both of these characters were very likable and I loved the banter between this sassy city girl and alpha country male. Even when they were trying to deny their attraction, I could feel the tension between them. And when they got together, wow, I sometimes had to fan myself with my kindle things got so hot!! This book held my interest from beginning to end and flowed very well. I definitely recommend this to anyone that’s not afraid of a lot of naughty fun!

I round the edge of the house and stop dead on the path, forgetting for a moment about my rage. Hell, even about the pebbles I’m standing on.

In front of me, shirtless and sheened in sweat, is the most perfectly sculpted man I have ever seen.

He could be made of bronze the way he’s posing now, weighing the axe over his shoulder as he eyes the stack of wood in front of him, balanced on the same tree stump where my Mama used to chop her own wood years ago. I can count every single muscle on his chest, from his pecs down his washboard abs to the perfect V that points like an arrow straight down, to a faint line of dark hair that I can’t help tracing to the fly of his jeans.

Damn jeans.

It takes every ounce of my self-control not to drool when he swings the axe all over again, distracting me with the surge and flow of his biceps, the way even his back ripples with strength. He’s got longer hair than I’m typically into, bound in a tight bun at the nape of his neck, dark and curly, to judge by the few flyaways that have escaped the hair tie.

I’m still gawking when he turns to look at me.

Holy shit. No way.

My jaw threatens to drop completely open because I realize—only when he looks straight at me head—I know this guy.

Grant Werther. The formerly scrawny kid who used to chase me around this lawn every summer while our parents talked shop. His dad owned a farm up the road, had the same business problems to deal with as Mom.

I have to say, he’s filled out nicely. His face, which used to be all thin angles, now features sharp cheekbones, a cut jaw and a fine nose. His eyes are dark too, piercing where they catch mine and lock, and his dark, full beard only accentuates his looks.

I swallow so hard I nearly gulp down my tongue in the process.

As for him, he shows no signs of recognizing me at all. Fine, if he wants to play at that game. “What are you doing here?” I manage to ask, finally recovering my wits.

“I could ask you the same thing.” He runs a hand over his hair, taming a few of those wisps, and narrows his eyes. “This is private property, Miss.”

*****5 STARS*****

This book was amazing with a capital “A.” I’m still a little at a loss for words. I’m hoping I can come up with the right words to express how beautiful this book truly was.

Noah and Andie are heartbroken, devastated, living with guilt, living in darkness…each for their own reasons. Noah has moved from his home into a house with his best friend, Bradley. Andromeda aka Andie and her twin sister, Milky, are also tenants in the home. Andie and Noah are drawn to each other from the very beginning. However, their pasts will complicate any future they are contemplating.

“…the boy’s an enigma, a paradox, a complete and utter mystery. I wonder how he sees me.”~ Andie

This book was packed with emotion. While there is a budding romance between Andie and Noah, there is a hint of mystery about their pasts. McClean does a fantastic job of unraveling their secrets in each chapter, especially Andie. I got a front row seat into what made her descend into darkness.

“I’m the girl who sees the world in black and white and different shades of grays, but barely in color.” ~Andie

Discovering her past was at times painful to witness. At times, I was furious. Andie had everything going for her. She was brilliant, and she had the potential to do amazing things. Several wrong decisions and trusting the person she gave her heart to would have far-reaching consequences for her. It was incredibly realistic. Many young girls her age make the same mistakes she did. While my heart broke for her, her tenacity and determination to make a better life for herself made me admire her immensely.

Noah…oh my heart be still! He epitomizes goodness and love. Because of his love for someone, he lost a part of himself. Like Andie, I admired his determination to attempt to find happiness again. Andie brought some light back into his darkness, and she possibly could bring him out of that darkness. Like Andie, there was no way I couldn’t fall for Noah.

“…his kiss is slow, pure, honest. It’s everything he is. Everything I’m not used to. He’s the good fighting evil. The hero fighting evil. The hero versing the villain. The light overpowering the dark.”

The ending was perfect for Andie and Noah. They will have to work hard at a relationship. They have to mend relationships with others, and they have to forgive themselves. So, it wasn’t an ending that tied everything up in a nice, neat bow, but it was realistic. I hope this isn’t the end of their story but just the beginning. They are making their first steps out of darkness together. If you want I book that is beautiful, yet heartbreaking, and yet full of hope, I highly recommend Darkness Matters.

“Darkness does matter. But so does hope. So does love. So does light.”

It’s the same old story, really.

Good versus evil.

Heroes versus villains.

Light versus dark.

For two years, college freshman Noah Morgan lived his life somewhere in the middle, fighting darkness and light, always searching for answers to a single question:

Why, Noah, why?

The same three words keep him up at night, struggling for air while gripping a plastic cylinder containing white pills to match the white label with his name printed in ink as deep and dark as his memories—memories that turned him into a recluse.

A shut-in.

An introvert.

Luckily for him, that’s not how the girl next door sees him.
