Behind the Bars Wrap

When I first met Jasmine Greene, she came in as raindrops.

I was the awkward musician, and she was the high school queen.

The only things we had in common were our music and our loneliness.

Something in her eyes told me her smile wasn’t always the truth.

Something in her voice gave me a hope I always wished to find.

And in a flash, she was gone.

Years later, she was standing in front of me on a street in New Orleans.

She was different, but so was I. Life made us colder. Harder. Isolated.

Even though we were different, the broken pieces of me recognized the sadness in her.

Now she was back, and I wouldn’t make the mistake of letting her go again.

When I first met Jasmine Greene, she came in as raindrops.

When we met again, she was the darkest storm.

By the way, what happened to Todd’s nose?” I asked.

“I broke it,” Elliott said matter-of-factly.

“What? How? Why?”

He shrugged before turning to look out the window. “He called you a bad name.”

“What was it?”

“It doesn’t matter.”

“Eli,” I started.

He turned my way and locked his hazel eyes with my browns. “Jazz…” He shook his head. “It wasn’t true.”

I swallowed hard, a big part of me certain Todd’s words held some form of truth.

Elliott saw it in me—my fear. He kept shaking his head and whispered, “I don’t feel sorry for you. Sometimes you look at me like you think I feel sorry for you, and I want you to know I don’t. I think you’re perfect the way you are.”

I quietly laughed at him repeating the words I’d told him earlier. A few tears rolled down my cheeks. “I’m a little messed up.”

“I know.” He nodded. “That’s why I like you.”

He went back to staring out the window, and I kept staring at him.

And there it was.

So small, so tiny, so real.

It wasn’t love, but it was the beginning of it.

I knew I was young, and I knew it was stupid, but in that moment, I began to fall in love with the quiet boy who quietly cared for me. The boy who was scared and still strong. The boy who stood up for me when he was surrounded by reasons not to do such a thing. I hadn’t known much about love. I hadn’t known how it looked, felt, or tasted. I hadn’t known how it moved, how it flowed, but I knew my heart was tight and currently skipping a few beats. I understood the goose bumps covering my arms. I knew this stuttering boy who was sometimes so scared was someone worth loving. He was worth being the first one I gave my heart to.

I knew Elliott Adams was love.

And I was falling into him so fast.

I’m almost at a loss for words…Brittainy Cherry, you are amazing! You broke my heart, and then somehow put it back together! This was an incredible love story!

“I’d always say I saw him first, but he’d argue that was a lie. Technically I didn’t see him at first—I felt him, felt his music crawl along my skin. The chords and bars of his saxophone sent chills down my spine. It sounded magical, the way the notes danced through the air, so hauntingly beautiful.”

Jasmine and Elliot are classmates, but they don’t travel in the same social circles. Eli is the quiet and somewhat nerdy boy who is the target of bullying at school, and she is the beautiful, popular, new girl. When Jasmine sees him playing the saxophone, she sees him in a whole different light. The two form a friendship, and as they spend more time together, their feelings deepen. But, life can be cruel, and it is to both of them tearing them apart until years later. Fate isn’t done with them, and the two find their way back into each other’s lives. Time and pain have changed Eli from a sweet boy into a cold man. The question remains of whether these soulmates can find their way back to one another and find their happy ending.

Jasmine and Eli are characters that will stay with me long after I have finished the book. Jasmine is drawn to Eli because she recognizes the loneliness in him. She knows what that is like because she has lived with it her entire life. Both of them have been rejected and hurt. Eli faces it every day at school. Jasmine faces every day with her mother. Her mother pushes her towards fame as a pop star, never asking or caring what Jasmine wants. She is never good enough for her mother. She is popular in school and enjoys it in the beginning because she has been homeschooled much of her life. Eli hates school because of his tormentors. Despite these differences, the two of them are indeed kindred spirits.

I will be honest, without spoiling anything. At times, this book was extremely hard to read. People are cruel, even those that are your family. However, Cherry also shows how compassionate and loving people can be as well. Jasmine takes up for Eli even though it’s social suicide for her. Eli sees the true beauty in her that her mother never sees. Eli has a wonderful mother and sister who adore him. Jasmine’s mother’s boyfriend is the father to her that she never had. The author illustrates that family isn’t always the one you were born into, but one your heart creates.

“Maybe it wasn’t the norm, but I had a family. A family that my heart created, a family that cared for me through the darkness, and the light, a family that would go to war for me.”

Brittainy Cherry is a new author to me, but I am in complete awe! Oh my gosh, this woman is so incredibly talented. There are books, and then there are books that tell stories. This one told quite a story and took me on quite a journey. I’m not sure I will be the same after reading this. I thought I knew what closure was until I read this book…how empowering.

I love when the title tells the story of what the book is about, and she couldn’t have picked a better title. So much of the emotions and lessons were illustrated through music which made this book even better. I have never read a book that broke my heart but yet was so beautiful at the same time. Brittainy Cherry is destined for wonderful things!

Bronze (Dangerous Games Book 1) by Adele Huxley Release Blitz with 5 Star Review & Giveaway!!!! A Must Read for Romantic Suspense Fans!!!!

Bronze by Adele Huxley is LIVE!

Title: Bronze

Author: Adele Huxley

Publication Date: Dec 5 2017

Cover Designer: T.E. Black Designs

It’s not all fun and games

The Unity Games. Hundreds of hot, competitive, foreign women all staying in Italy for two weeks? Um… yes please! A no-pressure competition where I can show off my snowboard-X skills and time to party guilt-free? Talk about my ideal trip. But when I find out my old friend and partner Elle Ball is staying in the Village too, everything else becomes so shallow. After all, she’s the woman I’ve measured all others against. Now that she’s back in my life for such a short time, am I even good enough to move past “just friends”?

I love her passion and tenacity. She’s everything I’m not. After a terrible moment at the opening ceremonies and her own brush with death, she starts to think some of these “accidents” don’t seem so accidental. When Elle sets her mind to something, all I can do is help and try to hang on. Maybe then I can prove my worth.

This is what I’ve been working for my whole life. The sacrifice, the early mornings and late nights… It comes down to this. This competition will land me a spot in the US Olympic Figure Skating team for sure. All I have to do is keep my head down and eye on the prize. It would’ve been easy if it weren’t for Ethan McNally.

The last time I saw him, he was a gangly kid… and one of my best friends. Now he’s a major hunk and that poses a huge distraction. So why can’t I stop thinking about him?

I’m surprised to find help and support from new friends as I dive into the strange events going on behind the scenes. As I unravel a vast conspiracy, I can’t help but wonder about my reunion with Ethan. Is he all that he seems or is he saying things I want to hear? Or, like this the Unity Games, were we doomed from the start?

I was looking for something a bit different to read, and Adele Huxley definitely gave it to me with her book, Bronze. It has romance, a bit of steam, and lots of suspense. It is a definite page-turner!

I liked the characters right away, with the exception of Anna. Maybe she will turn a corner, and I’ll like her in the next book. I love when a character grows and matures, and the main character, Elle definitely did that. She has self-confidence issues, although everyone around her sees her differently than she sees herself. Her suite mates, Hadley and Rebel, take her under their wings, and the three become fast friends. Ethan is the one who gives who that push to have confidence in herself, and the voices of doubt begin to diminish. So Ethan….he’s the bad boy of his sport, but he isn’t really. He and Elle have an immediate connection, and it only deepens when they recognize each other. The two used to skate together when they were kids, and the crush they had on one another becomes more as they spend more time together.

Like I wrote earlier, I loved the characters, and the deep friendship and bond each of them shared. However, I loved the suspense of the book. The twists, turns, and surprises really kept the book moving for me. I would think I had a character pegged as the culprit, but Huxley would prove me wrong. She even surprised about some characters. I thought they were minor players in the story, but then they would become huge players.

Her writing was very good, and the way she described everything… I felt like I was there…from their exclusive lodgings to the snowboarding course or the ice rinks. She literally put me in the book and made me a part of it!

The characters, the plot, the setting, the romance, the friendship, and the suspense all combined to make this a perfect story! I’m so glad this isn’t the end of the series. It looks like Huxley has more surprises awaiting us in the next books, and I can hardly wait!!!
