What a sweet, smart, and witty New Adult Romance that Mia Miller has written. So many New Adult romances have so much angst and drama that sometimes overshadow the rest of the book…not so with Love, On Hold.

I was intrigued from the very beginning. Joel thinks himself very lucky when he scored a hot chick’s number earlier in a bar. The joke is on him when he realizes she has given him the wrong number, but the female voice on the other end grabs his attention and gives him some sort of calmness. Instead of hanging up, he keeps talking to her.

Leonie is awakened at 3:45 AM by a wrong number. However, the guy’s voice intrigues her and gives her butterflies. This surprises her as she has had no time to even think about romance lately. So, the two continue talking, and before long, a pattern emerges in which they are talking and texting every day, getting to know one another. Keeping their identities secret is working for both of them NOW. What develops is a sweet, slow-burning love story.

Both characters are extremely intelligent and mature for being in their very early 20’s. Each of them have their own goals, and they are very motivated in reaching them. He wants to be an investigative reporter, working for a news agency that deals with facts and not opinions. She has a dream to be on the UN Council for Human Rights. This girl knows five foreign languages!!!! As smart as they are, each have suffered when it comes to their families but for very DIFFERENT reasons. It does play into the book and their romance.

The two draw out meeting each other, but Joel keeps pushing to meet Leonie. You may think this would slow the plot down, but the anticipation only makes it better. When they do finally meet face-to-face, it’s absolute SWEETNESS, which happens to be one of his nicknames for her.

The synopsis caught my attention, but Miller kept it throughout the book. It’s difficult for me to believe this is her debut novel. I would have thought it was written by a seasoned writer. I’m looking forward to reading her next book, Truly Yours.

What a charming read about the importance of friendship!

This is a continuation of the characters from the previous book, The Big Event. However, this one is mostly about Constance and Estelle. Constance runs into Estelle in a coffee shop, and it quickly becomes apparent that these two need a break from life as they are both single mothers. They decide to take a weekend at a spa, Glitzy. Both are having a great time even with Constance’s ex-fiance, Maxwell, calling her incessantly.

This was a fantastic book about friendship and being there for one another. These two incredible women met online and have developed a friendship. They bond even more commiserating about their ex’s and the joys and challenges of being single mothers.

I really loved how John-Ligali included how the other characters were faring, usually at the beginning of each chapter with an Instagram post. I thought that was a genius move on her part.

We also get some of our questions answered about the demise of Constance and Maxwell. The twist at the end was definitely not what I was suspecting! I will anxiously be awaiting the next book because Constance now needs even more answers from Maxwell, and she may be in the beginning stages of moving on from him with a new man!

Back in the Game by Meghan Quinn is a sweet, sexy romantic comedy! It is a novella, so it can be finished within hours, but if you are like me, you will hate saying good-bye to Rachel and Calder.

Let me begin by saying Calder owned my heart from the very first page. How could I not fall for a guy who dresses up as Wanda the Fairy for his 5-year-old daughter? And…he goes out in public to take her out to eat. Yeah, my heart was gone!!!! He is an incredibly successful, famous hockey player. None of the perks that go along with that even compare to his little girl though. He is a single dad, and he takes being a dad very seriously. He has to because Shea’s mother left not long after she was born. When he meets Rachel outside of a bathroom in a restaurant dressed as Wanda, I began to see another side of Calder…the even sexier more confident side.

Rachel is exactly the kind of girl I would want to be friends with. She is funny, witty, and intelligent. She and Calder are made for each other. They each have a quirky side to them that sets them apart from normal characters in a romance. They instantly have a connection, and the chemistry between them is electric. Most importantly, they really like each other as individuals. That is clearly seen through their hilarious text messages to one another.

As I wrote earlier, this is a novella, but Quinn leaves nothing out…the story, the characters, or the emotions. I could clearly see and feel why this was a romance made in heaven. Calder is not only handsome and sexy, he is also sweet, kind, and giving, making everyone he meets feel special. Plus, he is a one in a million father! He is a gentleman who also happens to be irresistible. It is those qualities that make Rachel fall in love with him. Rachel makes him laugh. She is sweet and a little sassy. She challenges Calder, and she doesn’t care about his status. She loves him for the man he is, not the celebrity. I can only imagine how hysterical it will be when Shea and Rachel team up together against him in the future!

Fantastic romantic comedy about “getting back into the game of dating.”

OMG!!! Amazing read by Beth Anne Miller! All I can say is I have another favorite read of 2018 to add to my ever-growing list, but this is also an ALL TIME FAVORITE AS WELL!

Amelia and Rory should never have crossed paths. She is from New York and is a self-proclaimed beach girl and has been anticipating a move to Miami with her best friend, Carrie. Rory is a rugged, sometimes moody tour guide in Scotland. Both are completely opposite of one another, but when Amelia arrives in Scotland to take part in a demanding hiking tour of the Isle of Skye, these two strangers will become so much more to each other.

Amelia’s first impression of Rory is that of a judgmental jerk who seems to take issue with everything she does. Rory’s first impression of Amelia is a young woman addicted to social media, always taking pictures, and completely unprepared for what she is about to endure. The two are constantly at each other’s throats…in the beginning. When she is hurt and is facing not completing the hike, she reveals to Rory the real reason she is there. Instead of being the jerk she expects him to be, he becomes her biggest supporter. Thus, begins one of the MOST HEARTFELT, EMOTIONAL, AND MOVING LOVE STORIES I’VE EVER READ!!!

The book was beautifully and magically woven together. Even the title, Under a Storm-Swept Sky is perfect. The weather in this region of Scotland is unpredictable and stormy, just like Amelia and Rory are. Both of them are carrying around guilt and seem stuck in life, never able to unload any of the guilt they feel. Discovering what each of them has experienced, at times, brought me to tears. The imagery Miller used when each of them found some sort of peace and redemption was magical.

There was a great cast of secondary characters, Tommy, Gav, Scar, and Carrie. Carrie and Amelia’s relationship was very special as was Tommy’s and Rory’s. I learned so much about Amelia and Rory through those relationships.

The romance was the perfect combination of sexy and sweet. Their love scenes will definitely get your heart beating fast, but the emotional connection will also melt your heart COMPLETELY!

As much as this was romantic, it was also a novel about redemption and second chances. It is about letting go of your past, being present in life..enjoying it, and fulfilling your own dreams.

The book was also very well-written. I felt like I was there with both of them. I could picture it, and then I went and looked up the places she was describing. Miller has added a place on my wish list to travel to. This is a very special book…one that should be savored. I guarantee it will stay with you long after you read the last word.

The Ghost of Glendale by Natalie Kleinman is a great combination of historical romance with a bit of a ghost story!

Phoebe Marcham is twenty-four-years-old, and she has resigned herself to becoming a spinster. She is a woman ahead of her time, and she refuses to marry for anything less than love. Her parents were deeply in love, and she wants that kind of marriage, not one made as an alliance between families. Who knew fate was just about to intervene and completely upend Phoebe!!!

Scotsman, Duncan, is visiting with his friend Rupert, who happens to be Phoebe’s old friend and neighbor. One day he is out riding his horse when he becomes lost. Fortunately, he happens upon a beautiful, Phoebe. She intrigues him as much she he does her. When they realize they are both friends with Rupert, they begin spending more time together, usually riding together every morning. Before long, Phoebe has convinced him to help entertain her visiting aunt whom Phoebe nor her father seem too fond of. When Phoebe tells Duncan about the family ghost, Simon, and the mystery surrounding him, Duncan is determined to help her solve the mystery and give Simon the peace he deserves.

I am a huge fan of historical romances and ghost stories, so this book was right up my alley. I rather liked the fact that the book was written in a way that reminded me of Jane Austen as she is one of my very favorite authors of all time. It made the book more authentic. However, I also loved that Phoebe could have been a woman in modern literature. She was smart, intelligent, witty, beautiful, and really fearless. She refused to allow a man to dictate her future. That made Duncan the perfect man for her. Instead of being threatened by Phoebe, he respected and loved her for it. I can only imagine the journeys this couple will take in their future!

One unique aspect of the book was that it was told in several different POVs. Almost every character had their own voice. Sometimes that is a bad thing, but in this instance, it added depth to each character. Even Simon and his love, Agnes, were able to tell their story through old letters and with Simon’s guidance.

Not only was this a romance, but it was also about forgiveness, seeing past what you thought was true about someone, and reconciliation of family and friendships. If you love historical romance and ghost stories, I highly recommend reading this one!!!

Driving Whiskey Wild was another great book by Melissa Foster! What made it even better was the narrator, Paul Woodson. He really brought the characters and the story to life!

Bullet was a fantastic character. He is everything a woman wants in a man…a bad boy with a good heart. Finlay’s description of him being an intimidating man was spot on. However, under that sexy, tough exterior is his best attribute…his heart! He doesn’t trust very easily and only gives his heart to a limited number of people, mostly his family. Finlay may change that. She is definitely not the type of girl he usually is attracted to. She is too sweet, and because of that underlying attraction, he is either rude or making crude sexual remarks about her. When he is forced to spend more time with her, he develops a fierce protectiveness and feelings he has never had for another woman.

Finlay is one of those quirky characters I can’t help but fall in love with. She is sweet and charming, but she also has a strength and determination most people aren’t expecting. Bullet is definitely not the type of guy she would ever date. His rudeness and sexual comments created a lot of complicated feelings within herself. One minute she wants to slap him across the face, and then, in the next moment, she wants to kiss him (and more). As she spends more time with him, she begins seeing a very different side of him, not the tough guy he portrays to others. These two have a sexual chemistry that is “off the charts hot.” It’s their deeper, emotional, and sweet relationship that really melted my heart.

As I wrote earlier, the narrator was AMAZING!!! I’m pretty particular about a narrator’s voice. He or she can make or break an audio book for me. I am mostly a fan of dual narrators, one a male and one a female. But, Woodson blew me away! I’m a huge fan of Melissa Foster already, but I’m even a bigger fan now. Paul Woodson also has a new fan in me!

When I step into the cafe, I don’t know exactly what I’m looking for.

The meeting I’d set up with the owner of Buckley Contractors and Construction had been vague at best, but they were who Natalie used to renovate her home a few years back so I was hoping this panned out.

I order a caramel macchiato and glance around the room.

“Aidric,” a clear voice calls and I twist.

“Olivia Buckley,” I murmur, approaching the tiny table with a slow smile twisting up my lips.

I remember Ollie from high school, though she was a few years younger than me, and I’ve seen her, over the years–the town is too small to not run into her. But I was never close to her, and after she had a little boy two months after graduation, everything I knew about the smart, pretty girl vanished.

There was only a serious single mom intent on doing the best she could for her son.

“How are you?” I ask, and she lifts an eyebrow.

“This isn’t time to catch up, Aidric,” she says, her voice dripping amusement.

“He isn’t part of the company anymore, though.”

I frown and give Ollie a severe look. “Are you trying to talk me out of hiring you?”
