Redneck Romeo (The Culture Blind Book 1)

by Xavier Neal

A small town man.

A big city woman.

A star-crossed love affair that begins in paradise…

What starts as five days of fun in the sun leads to two people traveling down an emotional dirt road.

Down a highway paved with good intentions but full of unpredicted roadblocks.

Will the tumultuous track they take ultimately tear them apart, leaving their lives in a tattered tragedy, or will they manage to survive and tie their souls together for a life time?

I have long been a fan of Xavier Neal’s. She has certainly written some emotional books, but I think this one affected me even more deeply in my soul. Be prepared…she will break your heart, then she will put it back together. Most importantly, she will make you think both with your mind and your heart!

Carly and her best friends, Cordie and Audrey are on vacation, and one that was needed. Carly thinks the change of scenery will help her friend, Audrey, find some much needed confidence in herself and help her take the first steps in mending her broken heart. What she isn’t expecting is Dusty. Dusty is on vacation with his brother Cody. There is an instant attraction between the two, but if ever there were opposites, it’s Carly and Dusty. She is from the city, and he is from the country. Her profession is being a “matchmaker,” but she certainly isn’t looking for something serious at the moment. She and Dusty agree to a having a good time while on vacation since they don’t live close to one another. Neither is expecting love to creep up on them, and Dusty is determined to make her his no matter what the obstacles may be. And…there will be MAJOR obstacles for these two.

As always, Neal’s characters are never one-dimensional, and they always have different layers to them that she reveals with each page you read. Carly and Dusty are no different. I love the fact that Carly deals with romance in her daily life, yet she has no clue about her own. Every one needs a friend like her. She is loyal and loves those she cares about with everything she has. This is perfectly illustrated in her relationship with Audrey and later with Cody. She will put him before herself every time.

Dusty has always been there for his family, and he adores his brother, Cody, Cody’s wife, Lynette, and their children. He loves his parents, so when he is faced with an impossible situation and must confront their prejudices, it will hurt him. However, you can ALWAYS count on him to do the right thing!

Their sparks and attraction to one another was evident from the beginning. However, I soon realized it was more than lust, but a deep and lasting love was developing between them.

Now, for the hard stuff….parts of the book were difficult to read, especially the prejudice. It still takes me by surprise that people still judge others on skin color, but I know it exists. Neal handled it with the realism, sensitivity, love, and hope that she always does. It is my hope that one day LOVE wins out, and people will love each other for their hearts and nothing else, and we can appreciate, admire, and love each other despite our differences. Hopefully, this book will bring healing to those going through the same thing. Just be warned…there is a twist in the book that you won’t be expecting.

Thank you, Xavier Neal, for a beautiful, sometimes heartbreaking book that made me think about this world and how we all can affect it in a positive, loving way!!!! Looking forward to the next book in the series!!!

Spring at the Little Pond Duck Café by Rosie Green with Review & Giveaway

Spring at The Little Duck Pond Cafe

by Rosie Green

Fleeing from a romance gone wrong, Ellie Farmer arrives in the pretty little village of Sunnybrook, hoping for a brand new start that most definitely does not include love! Following an unscheduled soak in the village duck pond, she meets Sylvia, who runs the nearby Duck Pond Café. Renting the little flat above the café seems like the answer to Ellie’s prayers. It’s only for six months, which will give her time to sort out her life, far away from cheating boyfriend Richard.

But is running away from your past ever really the answer?

Clashing with the mysterious and brooding Zack Chamberlain, an author with a bad case of writer’s block, is definitely not what Ellie needs right now. And then there’s Sylvia, who’s clinging so hard to her past, she’s in danger of losing the quaint but run-down Duck Pond Café altogether.

Can Ellie find the answers she desperately needs in Sunnybrook? And will she be able to help save Sylvia’s little Duck Pond Café from closure?

~4.5 STARS~

Spring at the Little Duck Pond Café by Rosie Green is one of those charming reads that pulls you in and doesn’t let you escape until the last page is finished.

Poor Ellie Farmer has had a bad time of it lately. She discovers her long-time boyfriend whom she thought she would be living a great life with has committed the ultimate betrayal. Even worse, her mother has been recently diagnosed with early onset Alzheimer’s. She has traveled to the village of Sunnybrook to take a picture that she is hoping will help her mother. She doesn’t suspect that this will be the start of a brand new life for her. When she meets sweet Sylvia who runs a café, she offers Ellie a lifeline, a flat that is for rent. This respite might just be what she needs if she can stay away from Zack Chamberlain, the broody but sexy man she ran into while trying to take that picture for her mother.

This book is about Ellie and her journey to discover who she is now that she isn’t in a relationship. She made many sacrifices for her ex who just threw those right in her face, so I thoroughly enjoyed seeing her grow into a woman who is confident in herself. She is loving and loyal. She is trying to do what is best for her mother, and she ends up helping Sylvia a lot as well. Ellie grows even more when she and Zack spend more time together. Both of them have been through a great deal of pain, so I loved watching them heal one another as they developed even deeper feelings for each other.

This is a story about Ellie and Zack, but I loved how the secondary characters were weaved into the book. In my opinion, that added even more depth and made me feel like I was a person living there in Sunnybrook. Green created a community of characters with each of them having a story to tell. I am hoping to return to learn more about the other characters, and I do believe they have quite the stories to tell!

Author Bio
Rosie Green has been scribbling stories ever since she was little. Back then they were rip-roaring adventure tales with a young heroine in perilous danger of falling off a cliff or being tied up by ‘the baddies’. Thankfully, Rosie has moved on somewhat, and now much prefers to write romantic comedies that melt your heart and make you smile, with really not much perilous danger involved at all, unless you count the heroine losing her heart in love.
Rosie’s brand new series of novellas is centred on life in a village café. The first, Spring at the Little Duck Pond Café, is out on March 22nd 2018.
