Ashley Erin did something not a lot of writers can accomplish, she perfectly straddled the line between a love triangle and second chance romance. Years ago, Allie had her heart shattered by Landon, and she thought she would never be happy again….until Brendan. He was a guy in her class who became her best friend, and then eventually more. The two have been together for 7 years now, and life should be great! As time has passed, Allie begins to question her relationship…where is the passion, the spark? Has she stayed with Brendan because he was the safe choice? If things weren’t complicated enough, Landon has now come crashing back into her life. She will have to confront some hard questions and decide which direction she wants her life to go. Buckle up, it’s a pretty emotional rollercoaster of a ride that I certainly enjoyed!

Allie is one of those characters whom I wasn’t necessarily very fond of in the beginning. She was involved with Landon when he was with someone else, but they were young, although that doesn’t make it right. However, the author does an amazing job of clueing us into their connection through flashbacks. As the story progressed, Allie did a lot of changing and maturing. Make no mistake, Landon shattered her heart, and she was determined not to do the same to Brendan. That is the point that my respect and love for Allie grew. As much as this was a choice in her personal relationships, this was a road of self-discovery for her.

I wasn’t quite sure of what Landon’s motives were concerning Allie, but he also had matured from the young boy he was. He now found himself in the position that Allie was in years before asking himself the same question she asked, “Why not me?” He was patient with her, and he really wanted Allie to be happy, although it might break his own heart.

Oh, Brendan, he was just about the most perfect individual in the entire book. Who couldn’t love him? He was so very patient, loyal, and loving with Allie. He helped heal her shattered heart so long ago, and he tried so hard to make sure she always felt loved.

I haven’t written much about the storyline because I don’t want to spoil anything. For me, the characters are what really drove the story. Just know there were no bad, evil people involved. Yes, some bad decision were made. It was emotional and sometimes messy, but as Ashley Erin proves in the end, life has a way of bringing happy endings people may not have expected.
