Danielle’s Review

Fantastic enemies to lovers story!! This book hooked me from the beginning!!
Reid Maxwell is a top corporate attorney in New York City. He has just taken over his enemy’s company and just as he is making plans for the future of that company, the enemy’s daughter, Carrie West, wins him for the night in a bachelor auction and has thrown his plans into chaos. Reid is well aware that nothing good can come from involving himself with Carrie but the physical pull to her is more than he can deny. Reid decides to work with her and even though he doesn’t like to mix business with pleasure, he might just have to break his own rule.
Carrie West will stop at nothing to win back her father’s company. The company she has given all her time and hard work to since she finished college. She doesn’t like Reid Maxwell but is determined to figure out a way to succeed. What she wasn’t counting on was the sparks that fly between her and Reid. Is there a way to keep the company and Reid?
I loved the banter between Carrie and Reid. This book has all the things I love in a book – sexy, alpha male, a strong heroine, funny banter between the main characters, a lot of passion and love with a bit of mystery thrown in. Although the characters do appear in other books, this can be read as a standalone.  It was great to catch up on some characters from previous books. This ends as a HFN but is to be continued. I recommend this book to anyone who loves a good hate to love story!

“Why am I here, Reid?”

I drag her onto my lap. “Because I want you here. Because I can’t seem to stop breaking my own fucking rules with you.”

Her hands plant on my shoulders. “And you’re mad at me again? You’re blaming me.”

“Yes. Stop making me break my rules.” I cup her head and kiss her, my tongue pressing past her lips, stroking us both into a needier place, where rules don’t matter.

She moans and sinks into the kiss, and damn it, I love those moans, I’m addicted to those moans. I’m addicted to this woman, and all my good intentions to sate that addiction, fail. I pull my T-shirt over her head and toss it, my gaze raking over her. My hand slides between her shoulder blades, and I mold her close. “This is definitely your fault.”

“Is this where you decide to kick me out again?”

“No,” I say. “This is where we fuck.” I drag her mouth to mine, and kiss her, telling myself that fucking is all this can be, reminding myself of the debt and the secret I legally cannot share. The secret that she’d never stay silent over if she knew.

I tell myself to get lost in the taste of her, defiant and yet submissive at the same time, in that way that defines this woman. I tell myself to just enjoy the moment, and I do. I waste no time getting naked and pulling her down the throbbing length of my cock. I waste no time driving into her. I waste no time getting lost in her touch, her kisses, her moans. And later, much later, when I’ve laid us down and pulled her next to me on the couch, I hold her, listening to her breathing slow and even out. I’m acutely aware that she is a woman caught in the middle of a debt that has to be paid, destined to hate me. It’s why this has to stay just sex. It’s why no matter how deep I go with her, I cannot get too close.

The Last Plantagenet? by Jennifer C. Wilson Book Blitz with Review

The Last Plantaganent

The Last Plantagenet?

by Jennifer C. Wilson

The fireplace hadn’t looked like a time-portal.
All Kate had wanted was a fun, relaxing day out, watching the knights jousting at Nottingham Castle. What she ended up with was something quite different.
Transported in a heartbeat from 2011 to 1485, how will Kate handle life at the Ricardian court? Even more importantly, how will she cope when she catches the eye of the king himself?

Christie’s Review

I found The Last Plantagenet? by Jennifer C. Wilson to be quite enjoyable. It’s part historical romance and part time travel, a really good combination of the two genres.

Kate was at Nottingham Castle watching a re-enactment of the War of the Roses when she is pulled into a time portal of sorts and finds herself as a server in King Richard III’s household. If that wasn’t enough, the King himself has taken notice of her. She soon finds herself falling for him as they spend more time together.

I enjoyed the whole romance between the two of them, and I liked that Wilson showed us another part of Richard, one not like the one depicted in history books.  Much of who Richard was rumors, at least in this book. Some would argue it isn’t true, but this is fiction. I liked seeing the softer side to him. The ending has a bit of a twist, and I like when writers throw something in I wasn’t expecting.

My only wish for this book was that it was a bit longer. It is a love story I could see myself completely wrapped up in, so I was hoping for a longer story. However, I did enjoy it, and it was a great way for this Plantagenet/Tudor fan to spend the afternoon.

5 ++++ STARS

Several years I picked up a book that was a modern twist on King Arthur. Little did I know what a journeys L.B. Dunbar would take me on….MMA fighters, small town romances, and now my favorites, her romances for the over 40.
Restored Dreams by L.B. Dunbar is another winner for her!!!! I love that the title is exactly what this book is about….restored dreams. Lily and Brut were in love twenty-one-years ago, and they were torn apart…both of them left with broken hearts. Now, fate and two matchmakers have intervened to maybe, just maybe give these two a second chance at love.
Oh goodness, there wasn’t anything I disliked about this couple. Yes, Brut messed up a long time ago. Instead of giving up, he worked harder to make his life better for him and his son. He is an honorable and responsible man, even if he has trouble voicing how he feels about Lily.
Lily was left heartbroken all those years ago, but like Brut, she never gave up.  She has an unbelievable capacity for forgiveness. She worked hard and made some of her dreams come true, even though some others didn’t. However, there is always a chance Brut could step in and help those other dreams come to fruition.
I am a huge fan of second chance romances, and this one ranks up in the top 10 of my favorites. It’s unlike some others in the genre as it is written for the over 40. Many might think that over 40 is too old for finding true love or realizing your dreams, but Dunbar proves them wrong. You can find love at any age, and it’s never too late for dreams to come true!

After being on the show, people don’t recognize me for

Christie’s Review

The Charm of You by Jennifer Probst is a sexy and sweet romance! I was a sucker for Presley and Nolan from the very beginning.

Presley Cabot is not the woman she was in college. She is a woman to be admired and respected; I certainly did. She took control of her life and made it a success. In college, she was overweight and in love with Nolan Banks who was a track star. One night in college, she laid her heart and body bare to him, and he shattered it into pieces. Yet, Presley pulled herself together and decided never to let that happen again. It was that self-determination, strength and perseverance that enabled her to become such a success. She never lost herself. She constantly gives back and made it her mission to help women. Although a part of my heart broke for her because her trust in men was completely gone.

I wanted to really dislike Nolan. As I got to know him, I, like Presley, began falling for him. He completely devastated Presley and continues to in a way because he can’t even remember her. As the story unfolds, that night may not be exactly what Presley thought it was. Nolan matches her in the department of determination and perseverance. Now, the target is her. He feels a connection with her, and he isn’t about to let her go.

As the synopsis said, Presley is determined to make him pay for what he did to her and how he made her feel. She has the goods to do it. However, she can’t help but fall for Nolan. Who wouldn’t? He’s sexy and charming. Through the flashbacks of their college days and through Nolan’s own POV, Probst showed us Nolan’s secret weapon is his heart.

Probst weaved together a great book with just the right combination of sexiness and sweetness, along with a hero and heroine you will fall in love with!

She’d known all along he’d lied about his identity in order to secure this appointment. Admiration flowed through him, along with a strange punch in his gut that urged him closer. The spicy scent of orange blossoms and clove filled the air, making him want to breathe deeper. “How did you know?” he asked, stopping on the opposite side of the monstrous espresso structure that held two oversized monitors, dozens of papers, and a toppling pile of books. “I thought I covered my tracks nicely.”

She gave a half shrug and reached for her Starbucks cup, seemingly already bored with his conversation. “You’re predictable.”

Male pride stung, he still couldn’t help laughing. Why did he have to be attracted to a woman who gave him shit? Would be so much easier to find a more complacent partner for an affair. Unfortunately, Nolan knew it was way too late for him. He was officially smitten. “Then I’ll have to up my game.”

Another shrug. “Maybe you have no game left.” She sipped her coffee and studied him, those stunning eyes shielding her secrets. He ached to know every detail about this woman, but knew he’d have his work cut out for him.

“Come to lunch with me and find out.”

She tilted her head. Tapped her index finger again those bee stung lips as if considering. “Why?”

Her question delighted him. “Because the moment you walked into my brewery I haven’t been able to get you off my mind.”

“How sweet.” She fluttered her lashes. “Too bad I forgot you the moment I walked out of your brewery.”

He dropped into the chair opposite the massive desk and hooked his foot over his knee. He made no attempt to hide his naked admiration for those amazing legs or the brazen way she challenged him to go and try. Her foot flexed, lifting the spiked heel, and those sleek muscles clenched under golden skin. His dick practically wept and got strangled in his jeans. “Ouch. What if I confessed you were the first woman in a long while to intrigue me?”

“Yeah? What intrigues you so much?”

He warmed up to the topic. “Besides your rapier wit, and superior intelligence? Your eyes. When I look into your eyes, I seem to lose track of time. I don’t want to be anywhere else.”

Was it possible she actually looked bored with his compliment? She gave a long-suffering sigh, regarding him like he was mentally challenged. “Please tell me you have better things in your arsenal. And you better upgrade from that Peter Gabriel song because it’s been overdone. I spend every Saturday with a personal trainer who makes me throw up for fun, so I really don’t want to hear about my pretty eyes or wit. Go ahead and bring it. Tell me I have a slamming body and get creative, dude, or I’m throwing you out and you won’t get another chance to bang me.”

God, she was magnificent.

Q & A With Tom Trott

How did you come up with the idea for this book?

This book was one of those lightbulb moments where the story arrived almost complete in a burst of inspiration. But there’s no way that would have happened if I hadn’t read The Great Gatsby, loved Ozymandias, and watched Adam Curtis’s documentary Hypernormalisation. The novel is some strange hybrid of those three very different things, all packed into a thriller.

What was your favorite thing about each character?

My favourite thing about Ben, the narrator, is that he is an entirely well-meaning person, he always wants what’s best for everyone. I had not written from the perspective of a character like that before and it’s a much nicer headspace to spend a year in; it’s also an enjoyable challenge to make a compelling character out of.

Do you have a playlist you listen to when writing?

No, but I often watch five minutes of a film before I write, in order to occupy the right tone. In this case it was Adam Curtis’s documentaries, both Hypernormalisation and Bitter Lake.

Any favorite foods/drinks you like while writing?

Just coffee. I treat myself to one from my Nespresso machine when I’m writing. I did eat raspberries whilst writing one chapter and they made it into the chapter in a really important way. In that case it was fortuitous, but another time it could be a disaster.

When did you know you wanted to be a writer?

Not until I had graduated from University. I always wanted to be a storyteller, but it took a lot of different forms before that: actor, director, etc. I finally decided to write a novel after reading Ian Rankin’s account of writing his first Rebus book. I would encourage any who is thinking of writing a novel to just throw caution to the wind and write it, and most important of all, finish it.

What are some are your favorite reads?

I love Raymond Chandler, and I’ll always go back to his books, particularly The Lady in the Lake. I also love Agatha Christie, J. K. Rowling, Tolkien, Philip Pullman, Arthur Conan Doyle, my tastes are all over the place. The book I read this year that I would recommend to everyone is Rebecca. I was overwhelmed by how good it was. In one particular paragraph I was completely transported to the point where I could smell the sea air she was describing and feel the breeze on my face! I haven’t had that kind of experience since I was a child.
