Bear With Me by Jessica Redland Blog Tour with Review

Bear With Me

Bear With Me

by Jessica Redland

Synopsis

Jemma has the job of her dreams as curator for the children’s section of a museum in London. She spends each day surrounded by the one thing she’s absolutely passionate about: teddy bears. When boyfriend, Scott, shows a genuine interest in her passion instead of laughing at her for “playing with teddies all day”, she knows he’s a keeper.

Returning home to the North Yorkshire seaside town of Whitsborough Bay to celebrate her birthday, Jemma thinks she’s heading for her happy-ever-after when Scott unexpectedly proposes. So, a few days later, why isn’t he retuning her calls or responding to her texts?

Julie has always been a wonderful single mother to Jemma and her little brother, Sean. As owner of specialist teddy bear shop, Bear With Me, and the creative genius behind the successful range of Ju-Sea Bears, she inspires Jemma with her ability to balance a demanding career with home life. So why is the shop now in disarray and why is Sean so upset?

Sam thought he had his future all worked out. With a promising neurology career, a home, and a devoted fiancée, life was looking good. But now he’s all alone in a strange city, far from everyone and everything he cares about, struggling to rebuild the tatters of his life. Did he do the right thing by running away? What does the future hold and is he strong enough to face it?

Sometimes love finds us when we least expect it. But sometimes love leaves us, just as unexpectedly. When you’ve loved and lost, can you bear to let love in again?

Bear With Me, as all will be revealed …

An All-Time Favorite Read

A Top Read of 2018 & Women’s Fiction

Oh my goodness, Jessica Redland has captured my heart and soul with this emotional and beautiful novel!!!

Bear With Me is one of those very rare novels that I have to really think about long and hard before writing a review. Honestly, I have written several versions before settling on this one. I want to get everything right so that other readers will see how very special this book really is!!!!

The book is told from two POVs…Jemma and Sam. It seems as if it is fate has brought these two together after each has suffered devastating pain, although for very different reasons. However, this shared pain has brought them together as friends and maybe, just maybe something more.

I thought the way Redland developed this story from the beginning until the very end was brilliant, even the title was brilliant. Readers will understand that once they begin reading it. Both of their stories are told parallel to one another.

Jemma and Sam are characters that will stay in my mind and my heart for a long time. I can’t imagine the depth of pain each of them endured. However, I could also see the strength in each of them as well. I’m so glad that Redland developed their stories both independently to show readers how the two came into each other’s lives. It was a slow romance which was completely realistic, with some steps forward and some steps back. She also threw a twist in near the end that packed quite the emotional punch.

The author created a story that was emotional and was one that held me captive until I finished the very last word, and I’m still thinking about the storyline and the characters. It was also a book that hit very close to home for me. My beloved grandmother suffered from the same disease as Jemma’s mother. Thank you, Jessica Redland, for shedding more light on Parkinson’s, not only from the perspective of those suffering from it but also from those who are the caretakers.

I highly, highly recommend this read. I have been a fan of Redland’s for a while, but in my opinion, this is her best book by far. It is about loss and second chances…family, friends, and love! Bear With Me will make you cry, make you laugh, and finally bring a smile to your face, and a warm feeling in your heart!!!!

Jessica had never considered writing as a career until a former manager kept telling her that her business reports read more like stories and she should write a book. She loved writing but had no plot ideas. Then something happened to her that prompted the premise for her debut novel, Searching for Steven. She put fingers to keyboard and soon realised she had a trilogy and a novella!

She lives on the stunning North Yorkshire Coast – the inspiration for the settings in her books – with her husband, daughter, cat, Sprocker Spaniel, and an ever-growing collection of collectible teddy bears. Although if the dog has her way, the collection will be reduced to a pile of stuffing and chewed limbs!

Jessica tries to balance her time – usually unsuccessfully – between being an HR tutor and writing.

Mrs. Bates of Highbury (A Prequel Inspired by Jane Austen’s Emma) by Allie Cresswell Blog Tour with Review

Mrs Bates of Highbury

Mrs Bates of Highbury

by Allie Cresswell

Synopsis

The new novel from Readers’ Favourite silver medalist Allie Cresswell.

Thirty years before the beginning of ‘Emma’ Mrs Bates is entirely different from the elderly, silent figure familiar to fans of Jane Austen’s fourth novel. She is comparatively young and beautiful, widowed – but ready to love again. She is the lynch-pin of Highbury society until the appalling Mrs Winwood arrives, very determined to hold sway over that ordered little town.

Miss Bates is as talkative aged twenty nine as she is in her later iteration, with a ghoulish fancy, seeing disaster in every cloud. When young Mr Woodhouse arrives looking for a plot for his new house, the two strike up a relationship characterised by their shared hypochondria, personal chariness and horror of draughts.

Jane, the other Miss Bates, is just seventeen and eager to leave the parochialism of Highbury behind her until handsome Lieutenant Weston comes home on furlough from the militia and sweeps her – quite literally – off her feet.

Mrs Bates of Highbury is the first of three novels by the Amazon #1 best-selling Allie Cresswell, which trace the pre-history of Emma and then run in parallel to it.

5 +++++ Stars

This is a must read for fans of Jane Austen!!!!

I am a huge fan of Jane Austen. She has always been one of my favorite writers ever since I read Pride and Prejudice by her when I was in high school. So, I’m pretty picky when I read an adaptation or sequel to any of her books, and Allie Cresswell would make Jane Austen VERY PROUD! She did an excellent job.

In a sense, this is an adaptation of Emma, but it’s not. It’s taking a character, Mrs. Bates who was an older woman at the time of the book by Austen, and showing readers who she was as a younger woman. It is also the tale of her daughters, Hettie and Jane, two complete opposites. It was written in the way that Austen wrote her books which I loved. I’m so glad Cresswell didn’t change that.

This promises to be a fantastic series. I can’t wait for the next installment. I can’t sing enough praises for Allie Cresswell! I read her book, Tall Chimneys, and I was under her spell. She is one of those rare writers who literally pull me heart, mind, and soul into whatever she is writing. Real life stops for me until I have read her very last word!!!!

4 STARS

A Stewed Observation is the fourth book in this great little series. The dinner club has traveled to Ireland to enjoy the food and the atmosphere. And, Jane is crossing her fingers that Dale will finally ask her to marry him. This would be a dream come true for her. All those hopes come to a halt when other things interfere, culminating in a mysterious death. While it appears to be of natural causes, the police believe it was murder. It seems her friend is a suspect.

While she is trying to uncover the true culprit, she meets Griffin O’Doherty who may just give Dale some competition for Jane’s affections. I loved the mystery, and the little bit of romance. It was a well-written book, with great attention to detail. I loved the beautiful locale. The setting, itself, added so much to the storyline.

A Stewed Observation was not only a great cozy mystery, but it’s also a great book for travel as well. I loved the suggestions at the end for travel overseas. It certainly made me want to travel abroad. I’m looking forward to reading more in the series!

Christie’s Review

5 STARS

Cora is settling into her life in Indigo Gap, North Carolina. She is a incredibly talented crafter, and she has used those skills and talents to build a craft retreat business. She has has a wonderful, caring boyfriend, Adrian. Things are going wonderfully until murder enters the picture…again. This time it’s Stan Herald, the director of the local theater group. What makes it worse is her friend, Zee is the prime suspect. Cora can’t resist…she has to save her friend!

Not only is there the mystery of Stan’s death, but Zee, herself, is a mystery. Cora isn’t sure about Zee’s past. For instance, she isn’t even certain how old Zee really is. She has her work cut out for her, but that is the thing about Cora….she doesn’t give up very easily. It’s one of the things I love most about her. I think everyone needs a Cora in their lives. She is completely loyal to those she loves.

The writing was fantastic as well as the cast of secondary characters, such as Adrian, Ruby, and Jane. They each added a great deal to the storyline. Heck, even the town of Indigo Gap is a character. She wrote the setting so well that I felt like I was a part of it myself.

As much as this is a cozy mystery, it is so much more! Underneath the storyline is the theme of overcoming obstacles and how you move forward…basically reinventing yourself. That really struck a chord for me and sets this book somewhat apart from other books in the genre.

I love when the author includes little extras, and Bryan not only gave her readers one thing but several, from crafts to recipes, and some I might even be brave enough to try. Looking forward to returning to quaint Indigo Gap in the future

About the Book

Yesterday’s Tears (Yesterday’s Paranormal Mysteries)
Paranormal Mystery/Women Sleuths
5th in Series
Electric Prose Publications (September 28, 2018)
Print Length – Approximately 200 pages

It might be a murder from decades ago, but it still has its claws in the present…and someone seems determined to drag Anna into it.

It’s way too soon to be returning to a haunted mansion, and Anna’s favorite cowboy ghost does his best to talk her out of it. But the opportunity to pick from the beautiful antiques left to her in a Crocker resident’s will is just too tempting for Anna and Pratt to pass up. So they’re going in…

They’re prepared to deal with a few cold spots. Maybe the occasional flickering light. But what Anna and the boys weren’t counting on was bumping up against the ghost of Josiah Bumgartner, a contemporary of Joss’ from the 1800s. And when Josiah claims the old woman who lived in the house hid his bones around the place, Anna agrees to help him find them. But something much darker is at work there. And, unfortunately for our happy little gang of antique hunters…Anna seems to have unwittingly stepped right into the middle of it.

Christie’s Review

4.5 STARS

Yesterday’s Tears is book 5 in the Yesterday’s Mysteries Series. The author, Sam Cheever, expertly combines mystery with paranormal aspects. It’s definitely a book that will keep your attention from the first page until the last.

This book finds Anna and Pratt in a haunted mansion. She has inherited the place with beautiful antiques. Inside these walls lies evil, betrayal, and deadly secrets. However, Anna can’t seem to pass this up, not only for the antiques but in solving a mystery. Joss, Anna’s best friend who is a ghost is along for the ride as well. None of them would guess what they will encounter here..a disputed will and Josiah Baumgartner, a ghost and a person Joss knew in his past.

This is a very well-written book. Sam Cheever knows how to give her readers a little extra…a little more chills with the paranormal thrown in. I love her descriptive writing. Part of the chills was the mansion itself, and how Cheever described it. I also like the way she gives the ghosts a lifelike quality, who have agendas of their own. The entire series is great to read at this time of year with Halloween right around the corner!

In Dorothy St. James’s third delectable Southern Chocolate Shop mystery, a new batch of chocolate and troubles of the heart cause a string of disasters for the Chocolate Box’s new owner, Charity Penn.

The vintage seaside town of Camellia Beach, South Carolina seems like the perfect place for romance with its quiet beach and its decadent chocolate shop that serves the world’s richest dark chocolates. The Chocolate Box’s owner, Charity Penn, falls even further under the island’s moonlit spell as she joins Althea Bays and the rest of the turtle watch team to witness a new generation of baby sea turtles hatch and make their way into the wide ocean.

Before the babies arrive, gunshots ring out in the night. Cassidy Jones, the local Casanova, is found dead in the sand with his lover Jody Dalton—the same woman who has vowed to destroy the Chocolate Box—holding the gun. It’s an obvious crime of passion, or so everyone believes. But when Jody’s young son pleads with Penn to bring his mother back to him, she can’t say no. She dives headfirst into a chocolate swirl of truth and lies, and must pick through an assortment of likely (and sometimes unsavory) suspects before it’s too late for Penn and for those she loves in Dorothy St. James’s third rich installment of the Southern Chocolate Shop mysteries, In Cold Chocolate.

Penn is settling into her life running The Chocolate Box, the little shop her grandmother left her. Trouble comes knocking at her door soon enough though in the form of her nemesis, Jody Dalton, family secrets, and even murder. Wouldn’t you know it…Penn is in the center of it all!!!

Cassidy Jones, a realtor and the town’s Casanova is found dead on the beach one night. All signs point to Jody as she is the one who was shooting guns in the dark night, and she was supposedly involved with him. However, not all things are as they appear. There was a list of women who might have wanted Cassidy dead. No matter how Penn feels about Jody, she will do what she has to for justice.

Murder wasn’t the only plot going on in the book. Penn’s relatives aren’t happy with her inheriting her grandmother’s shop, and they will stop at nothing to get their hands on it. They aren’t convinced Penn is really who she says she is, and they mean to prove it. Don’t underestimate Penn. She is quite the fighter, and she won’t give up easily. Harley, her lawyer and Jody’s ex, is standing by her side, and there might just be some sparks between him and Penn.

As one mystery is solved, Penn’s questions about her past haven’t been completely answered yet. Camellia Beach appears to be a little peace of paradise, but underneath that beautiful veneer lies secrets that many don’t want unearthed. That little foreshadowing tells me that Penn’s questions won’t result in easy answers.

The icing on the cake are the recipes at the end. Of course, my favorite is the Moon Benne Wafer Cookies…benne wafers are a Charleston treat! I, myself, am a South Carolina girl who was born and raised in the Lowcountry, so any book I get my hands on about this area is a plus for me. Seriously, if you are looking for a book that has just about everything, look no further than In Cold Chocolate. Pardon the pun, but it’s a real treat. Looking forward to heading back to the beautiful lowcountry of South Carolina and Penn’s new adventure!

About the Author

Mystery author Dorothy St. James was raised in South Carolina. She makes her home on the outskirts of Charleston, South Carolina with her husband, a neurotic dog, and a fluffy cat. Though writing has always been a passion for her, she pursued an undergraduate degree in Wildlife Biology and a graduate degree in Public Administration and Urban Planning. She put her educational experience to use, having worked in all branches and all levels of government including local, regional, state, and federal. She even spent time during college working for a non-profit environmental watchdog organization.

Switching from government service and community planning to fiction writing wasn’t as big of a change as some might think. Her government work was all about the stories of the people and the places where they live. As an urban planner, Dorothy loved telling the stories of the people she met. And from that, her desire to tell the tales that were so alive in her heart grew until she could not ignore it any longer. In 2001, she took a leap of faith and pursued her dream of writing fiction full-time.

* Dorothy St. James is the alter-ego of award-winning multi-published author, Dorothy McFalls. She enjoys writing in several different genres. Her works have been nominated for many awards including Romantic Times Reviewers’ Choice Award, Reviewers International Organization Award, National Reader’s Choice Award, CataRomance Reviewers’ Choice Award, and The Romance Reviews Today Perfect 10! Award. Reviewers have called her work: “amazing”, “perfect”, “filled with emotion”, and “lined with danger.”

Finders Not Keepers was a clever book with the perfect combination of mystery and romance!

Terri is cleaning out her attic, going through some of her ex-husband’s things when she finds a beautiful diamond necklace. She knows nothing about who lived there before her, so she decides to find out who the necklace belongs to. Who knew what an adventure this would turn out to be, one that involves a murder, puts her in danger, and possibly on the path to a new love.

I just loved Terri. She was funny and smart, and her ex was an idiot to let her go. She has a hard time thinking that her sexy neighbor Ryder would even look twice at her. Imagine her surprise when she realizes he wants to date her. He is a PI, and he agrees to help her solve the mystery as he shows her he is serious about getting to know her. Ryder is a guy any woman would fall for. He is the whole package…good looking and very protective of Terri.

I loved Terri’s best friend, Melanie. She is quite funny! The story was well-written. The mystery kept me guessing, and the romance was sweet. I loved the quotes at the beginning of the chapters about librarians. I’m so glad this is just the beginning of this series. I can’t wait to see where the story will go for Terri and Ryder.

About the Author

I grew up reading everything I could get my grubby hands on, from my mom’s Harlequin romances to Nancy Drew, to Little Women. When I wasn’t flipping pages in a library book, I was penning horrendous poems, writing songs no one should ever sing, or drafting stories which have thankfully been destroyed. College and a stint in the U.S. Army came along, robbing me of free time to write and read, although on the odd occasion I did manage to sneak a book into my rucksack between rolled up socks, MRIs, t-shirts, and cold weather gear. After surviving the army experience, I went back to school and got my law degree. I jumped ship and joined the hubby in the Netherlands before the graduation ceremony could even begin. A few years into my legal career, I was exhausted, fed up, and just plain done. I quit my job and sat down to write a manuscript, which I promptly hid in the attic after returning to the law. But practicing law really wasn’t my thing, so I quit (again!) and went off to Germany to start a B&B. Turns out running a B&B wasn’t my thing either. I polished off that manuscript languishing in the attic before following the husband to Istanbul where I decided to give the whole writer-thing a go. But ten years was too many to stay away from my adopted home. I packed up again and moved to The Hague where I’m currently working on my next book. I hope I’ll always be working on my next book.

Finders, Not Keepers is my thirteenth novel.

The second I saw him walk through the door, I knew he was trouble.
A gorgeous rebel with a bad attitude and a huge chip on his shoulder.

Christie’s Review

5 +++++

Love’s not about right or wrong, just like grief isn’t about counting days. Love is about being given a gift. Sometimes when we least expect it. Usually when we need it most.

Let me begin by saying, it’s really hard to not love A.L. Jackson. She knows how to write one heck of a story filled with emotions. This book is no exception. She engaged ALL of my emotions! I was angry, sad, and happy! This is another all-time favorite and top favorite in second chance romance for me.

Faith and Jace thought they had it all. They felt like there was no obstacle they couldn’t overcome even if they came from two different worlds, but that was not to be for them at the time. Life and outside forces tore them apart. Now, Jace is back and determined to protect the woman he loves and her child. Buckle up….this is one heck of a ride!!!!

As you can well imagine, Faith isn’t too happy to have Jace back in town. However, she can’t just forget all that the two of them shared. I loved the way Jackson took me back in time when Faith fell in love with Jace, the boy from the wrong side of the tracks.

But that troubled boy was my shining star. He’d taught me to have faith that people were so much more than their exteriors and their reputations. Made me have faith that destinies weren’t based on our circumstances but rather what we made of them.

Faith was a woman I couldn’t help but admire, love, and respect. She had her heart ripped out by Jace, then she suffered the loss of her husband, Joseph. Now, she was a single mother with a dream she wasn’t sure she could realize, and she was afraid for herself and Bailey Button. She was juggling grief, worry, and fear, all while “standing on her two own feet.” However, she never gave in. There was a love still burning for Jace, but her heart and soul belonged completely to her daughter. She would do anything to make sure she was safe. How could I not love her?

Jace was a character I fell for as well. Like, Faith, I couldn’t help but admire and respect him as well. He was loyal, protective, and forgiving. He always put his family first, often to the detriment of himself. He wanted them to be different than how they were raised. He could have harbored resentment towards Bailey, yet he fell heart and soul for that precious little girl, and in not time, she had him wrapped her little finger!

Jackson also created a great set of secondary characters, such as Ian, Mack, Courtney, and our sweet little “Button.” Every time Bailey was on the scene, my heart melted for the precious child.

As much as this was a romance, Jackson expertly combined it with mystery and thrills. She continued adding more little hints here and there of who was terrorizing Faith and why. As always, her book was well-written, and each setting was described in a way that I was right there in the story myself.

I highly recommend reading this little gem of a book by A.L. Jackson. Just be warned….you won’t do anything else until the very last page is finished. But then, those are the very best books to read, aren’t they?

Reflected Destinies

Reflected Destinies

by Florence Keeling

Synopsis

Laura is happy and content, she has a new boyfriend and loves her job teaching primary school pupils in London.  But when she inherits a rundown house from a stranger on her 30th birthday, memories of her prom night come flooding back, memories of a scary encounter and an antique mirror in the very same house.

Laura visits the house with all its secrets and as she unravels the clues she reveals the biggest secret of all: her own destiny.  But how can you change the future if it’s already written in the past?

Christie’s Review

4.5 STARS

Reflected Destinies was a very clever, original time travel romance. The storyline kept my attention from the beginning until the end.

The author sets the tone of the story within the first few pages of the book, and the mystery just deepened from there. Laura lives a pretty normal life with a great boyfriend and a great job, but things aren’t always the way the appear. Laura discovers that when she inherits a neglected, dilapidated home from a stranger. This house was the same house in which she had a scary encounter as a teenager. However, she goes forward with the renovations, not knowing how much her life is getting ready to change.

The romance is sweet and emotional. It proves that some love stories never die as is the case between Laura and Ben. I don’t want to go into great detail as it might ruin the plot of the book. As much as this is a romance, it’s somewhat as a mystery as well.

This is a very well-written book and especially for a first time writer. Her characters are very well-developed and complex. The story itself has a lot of twists, especially at the end…it’s a bit of a mindbender. The title itself is clever and perfect as you will see once you read the book. I’m excited to see what Florence Keeling has in store for her fans next.
