Reflected Destinies

Reflected Destinies

by Florence Keeling

Synopsis

Laura is happy and content, she has a new boyfriend and loves her job teaching primary school pupils in London.  But when she inherits a rundown house from a stranger on her 30th birthday, memories of her prom night come flooding back, memories of a scary encounter and an antique mirror in the very same house.

Laura visits the house with all its secrets and as she unravels the clues she reveals the biggest secret of all: her own destiny.  But how can you change the future if it’s already written in the past?

Christie’s Review

4.5 STARS

Reflected Destinies was a very clever, original time travel romance. The storyline kept my attention from the beginning until the end.

The author sets the tone of the story within the first few pages of the book, and the mystery just deepened from there. Laura lives a pretty normal life with a great boyfriend and a great job, but things aren’t always the way the appear. Laura discovers that when she inherits a neglected, dilapidated home from a stranger. This house was the same house in which she had a scary encounter as a teenager. However, she goes forward with the renovations, not knowing how much her life is getting ready to change.

The romance is sweet and emotional. It proves that some love stories never die as is the case between Laura and Ben. I don’t want to go into great detail as it might ruin the plot of the book. As much as this is a romance, it’s somewhat as a mystery as well.

This is a very well-written book and especially for a first time writer. Her characters are very well-developed and complex. The story itself has a lot of twists, especially at the end…it’s a bit of a mindbender. The title itself is clever and perfect as you will see once you read the book. I’m excited to see what Florence Keeling has in store for her fans next.

New Review: Tall, Dark, & Irresistible by Erika Wilde with Excerpt

20 Sep

TALL, DARK & IRRESISTIBLE, an all-new fun, flirty, standalone romance from USA Today bestselling author Erika Wilde is available NOW!

EWTallDarkIrresistibleCover5x8_MEDIUM

When it comes to love and happily ever after, Leo Stone is a disbeliever. Having been left at the altar by the one woman he thought he’d spend the rest of his life with, he’s vowed to keep his heart to himself and enjoy the one thing he knows won’t affect his emotions . . . hot, dirty sex. Except, what’s a guy to do when a gorgeous woman asks him to be her stand-in boyfriend for two weeks—with benefits? Sign him up, please!

A drunken night one year ago, Peyton Bishop used Leo Stone’s name and photograph to convince her overprotective parents that she was safe living in New York City—in part thanks to a boyfriend she adored. Except Leo, the hot guy she’s had a secret crush on since college, has no idea he’s been cast in the role of her lover. With her cousin’s wedding coming up, and her parent’s expecting to meet this mysterious boyfriend, Peyton is forced to come clean and ask Leo a huge favor.

Leo agrees to be her stand-in boyfriend, but what’s a pretend couple to do when their fake feelings start to become oh-so-real?

Danielle’s Review

4 Stars
This is the 2nd book in the Tall, Dark and Sexy series but can be read as a standalone. This was a fantastic read, just like the first book in this series. I love the fake relationship trope and this book didn’t disappoint.
It’s been 4 years since Peyton and Leo have seen each other, but Peyton never forgot him or her unrequited crush on him. In fact, when she needed to make up a fake boyfriend to get her overprotective parents off her back, he’s the first person that came to mind. Now she has to return to her hometown for a wedding and is expected to bring said boyfriend as her plus one. When Peyton reconnects with Leo through his work, she tells him the truth and luckily, Leo agrees to help her out.
Leo figures what could it hurt to help out an old friend, one he might have made a play for if he hadn’t been in a relationship at the time he met her. He is still attracted to Peyton and would enjoy getting to know her on a more intimate level and since he has sworn off women after being dumped at the altar, a short-term fling is just what he needs.
But what happens when fake feelings become real?
I really enjoyed this story!! It had all the right elements – humor, hot alpha male, smoking chemistry between Peyton and Leo and just a little angst. I really like Erika Wilde’s writing style and the story flows very well. I was thrilled to revisit the characters from the first book and got a taste of what the next in this series will be about. I can’t wait to read the next one!

Excerpt:

The two of them reached Leo’s vehicle, and the doors unlocked with a chirp as he pressed the key fob in his free hand. But instead of opening the passenger side for Peyton, he instead turned her around to face him . . . trapping her between the unyielding metal surface of the car behind her and the tall, muscular man standing less than two feet away.

He casually placed a hand on the door beside her and leaned a few inches closer. “Before we go, I have one more question for you,” he said, his tone serious.

She inhaled the warm, masculine scent of his cologne mingling with leather from his jacket and tried not to let that intoxicating fragrance distract her. “Okay.” She figured it couldn’t get any worse than everything she’d already admitted.

“So, usually, when a person gets propositioned, they get something out of the deal,” he said, his heavy-lidded gaze dropping to her mouth. “You’d be getting a devoted boyfriend out of the arrangement. What would I get?”

She didn’t miss the suggestion in his eyes or the playful curve of his smile. “What do you want?” she asked, unable to hide the breathless quality of her voice.

“Well, for starters, how about a show of good faith, like a kiss?” His free hand came up and gently cupped the side of her face, while his thumb skimmed along her damp bottom lip. “I think it’s important to know what I might be getting myself into and if we’re compatible enough to pull off this whole pretend boyfriend/girlfriend thing. I mean, what if we kiss and we realize that there’s just no spark there? Then this whole farce is doomed for failure.”

He was teasing her. She could see the mischievous glimmer in his eyes, and it provoked a smile from her, even as her breathing escalated with every second that passed with the temptation of finally having Leo’s lips pressed against hers dangling like a carrot in front of her.

“Then kiss me so we can find out,” she whispered.

His thumb dipped down beneath her chin to tip her head back as he lowered his mouth to hers. His lips were surprisingly soft as they found hers for the first time, his teeth gentle as they nibbled at her bottom lip. She couldn’t hold back the needy moan that escaped her throat, or the way her hands instinctively lifted and settled against his solid chest even as he pressed closer to her, his hard thighs and hips pinning her against the car.

“Jesus,” he breathed against her lips in shock, clearly feeling the heat between them that was a spark on the verge of becoming an undeniable blaze.

Sliding both of his hands into her hair, he held her head steady as he came back for another taste, and this time, there wasn’t an ounce of gentleness in the way he swept his tongue inside and plundered her mouth—boldly, deeply, greedily. She made a wild, desperate sound as she fisted her hands in his cotton T-shirt and matched him kiss for kiss, turning that blaze into an inferno that was so hot it threatened to singe them both. And in the moment, neither one of them seemed to care.

She felt the unmistakable ridge of his erection nudging against her belly, and a new hunger spiraled tighter inside her. Desire made her knees weak, her nipples excruciatingly hard, and her panties wet. Everything about Leo Stone was sensation overload to every part of her body, and if there was any worry in either of their minds about pulling off a believable attraction, this kiss eliminated any and all concerns.

By the time Leo finally lifted his mouth from hers, they were both breathing hard from all the heightened sexual tension between them. His dark eyes glittered with lust as he gazed down at her, looking as dazed as she felt.

Somehow, someway, she found her voice. “Was that convincing enough for you?” she asked huskily.

His low, sexy chuckle made her shiver. “Oh, yeah . . . it was definitely a good start.”

WickedWedding-SBPRBANNER-RB.jpg

Wicked Wedding, an all-new sexy standalone novel, from New York Times and USA Today bestselling author Sawyer Bennett is LIVE!

WickedWeddingCoverBW.jpg

It all started with a wedding…

Well, three weddings, to be exact. The one that happened, the one that went up in flames, and the one nobody saw coming.

Andrew Collings has seen a lot of things living in Vegas. Hell, he’s done a lot of things. But one thing he’s never witnessed is a beautiful brunette, hitchhiking her way into the city, wearing a wedding dress. Until now, that is.

Brynne Adams is running away from a broken heart. She expected a lot of things from her wedding day but finding photos of her fiancé and maid of honor and best man in a compromising position wasn’t one of them. She most certainly never imagined that she’d end up marrying the handsome stranger that rescued her from the side of the road that day.

Andrew and Brynne’s quick nuptials may have been the result of a drunken joke, but they soon realize that love can be found in the most unlikely of places if you just stop and take a chance.

* Wicked Wedding is the fourth STANDALONE NOVEL in the LEFT AT THE ALTAR series in a collaboration of six New York Times Bestselling Authors: J. S. Scott, Ruth Cardello, Raine Miller, Sawyer Bennett, Minx Malone, and Melody Anne.

Exclusive Excerpt:

It’s always easier, staring at Ryan Taylor from afar. His stormy, dark eyes give a warning to strangers: stay away. Tall at ten years old, Ryan pretends that his alcoholic father doesn’t bother him. But he does. I see it in his navy-blue eyes when his dad returns from sea.

It’s summer. The heat from the sun on my face makes me feel warm, almost happy. I watch as Ryan stalks toward me, quietly, as I lie in the middle of the mustard field. The scent of sea in my nose. I pray this pain goes away—the pain in my heart from the riptide that has torn through the Young family this morning. We knew it was coming. I should maybe feel relief that my mother is no longer in pain, but I want to retreat back to before she had cancer. When there wasn’t a cluster of pills on the counter. When it didn’t smell like a hospital on 4578 Opal Street at the top of the hill with the view of the ocean.

“Hey,” he says, breathless.

“You been running?” I peer up at him through squinty eyes.

“Yeah. From my house. When I heard the news.” Ryan sits down next to me and then lies down, placing his hands behind his head, peering up at the same summer sky.

“You okay?” I hear him whisper.
I don’t know.
I feel sick, and numb, too, I guess.
“What are you supposed to feel when your parent dies, Ryan?” The birds chirp.

Crickets sing.
I wait. Praying that his answer will deliver some peace.
Life is going on at a pace I wasn’t prepared for. Moving

forward. It has picked up and left my mother in the past. And I’m paralyzed.

“I don’t know.” He’s quiet for a moment. “I guess it’s supposed to feel like how ugly looks maybe.”

I laugh because I picture Ryan as ugly, and I just can’t with his skin that looks like the color of caramel, eyes the color of the Atlantic, short dark brown hair, and a long, lean body that is always ready, willing, and able.

I want to tell him I’m sorry his mother left. Before Ryan could walk, his father had just come home from a two-week sea trip, and his mother bent down, kissed him good-bye, and never came back. According to Ryan.

I suppose he knows what ugly feels like. I suppose he knows what it’s like to have his life turned upside down, twisted, knotted, nasty.

“People are shitty,” I say.
“Yeah. People are shitty.”
We both stare up at the bright blue sky and look for our

mothers. We see the sadness, life’s imperfections as the clouds float by. We take heed in the fact that life would just be easier if we didn’t get so attached, if we didn’t become loved, if we didn’t give love. Because, in the end, this ache in our hearts wouldn’t hurt so bad.

I feel Ryan’s eyes on me, but I continue to stare at the deformed elephant that drifts past me.

“One day, this all won’t hurt so much, Violet,” he whispers. And, when he calls me this, the stinging of my eyes begins.

EXCERPT

He should have caught her. Of course he should have.

Teaq knew he’d made a mistake, technically. But then why had it felt so right to let her go?

Their little encounter had stayed with him throughout the evening. After she’d left, he made his way back to the longship and sailed back to Black Mountain and the castle he called home. Even knowing that there was no chance she’d lingered around all these hours, he still caught himself scanning the waters for any sign of her.

What a magical being. Such beauty and grace. And yet such naivety.

She’d come to see the birds.

Teaq, just like the rest of his people, had lived with a constant threat of war all his life. The Sea Folk were a fierce enemy who could strike at any moment.

They considered the seas to be their domain. And of course, the Black Isles were surrounded by vast amounts of water, which the Sea Folk sought to dominate.

And then this young woman had come along, and told him she’d arrived on their shores just to see the birds.

Had she never seen birds before? He’d never seen a Mermaid before, so perhaps not. Perhaps they didn’t travel like their male counterparts did.

Perhaps she’d run off from her own people to go on a little expedition of her own.

She’d seemed enterprising enough, as well as surprisingly fearless for an unarmed intruder. When she’d reached for him and grazed his arm with her fingers, Teaq had wondered for a moment if that was it. If she was hiding some secret weapon or spell that would turn him to dust at her touch.

But actually, she’d just been curious. How laughable. Laughable and in equal measures adorable as well.

He never thought he’d think this way about one of the enemy, but this Mermaid had seemed completely innocent. As if there was no war. And their people hadn’t murdered each other over these rocks in the sea for generations now.

But the inconvenient truth was that they had. And what had occurred earlier on the shores of the Eastern Isle while nobody had been watching was an act of treason on both their parts.

Of course, nobody needed to know that.

Teaq was a man of few words usually. Keeping a secret, even one this big, would not be a problem for him. Hopefully she’d be equally discreet and her people wouldn’t be on the warpath as a result of their interaction.

As soon as the ship arrived at the Harbor of Black Mountain, Teaq left the crew to their own devices and headed straight for his chambers in the castle. He didn’t even see Broc to announce their arrival, or the report on the outcome of the hunt.

All of that stuff suddenly did not seem important anymore.

Teaq, despite his serious, almost cynical nature, was caught in the Mermaid’s spell.

He simply could not forget their meeting, however short.

It wasn’t just a passing infatuation either. He knew that he would carry these thoughts with him for the foreseeable future. There would be only one remedy: he had to see her again.

Would he, though?

Would she ever come back?

He himself didn’t have any reason to return to the Eastern Isle any time soon, and it wasn’t even very far for him. She had travelled all the way from the Deep, where the Sea Folk had made their home.

Unusually, he was feeling optimistic. Something told him that indeed, she would make the effort again. And as long as he made sure he returned to that same spot regularly, and kept any nosy onlookers at bay, they would meet again.
