Crushing on the Cop by Piper Rayne Review & Excerpt Blitz

Cristian Bianco has two things against him—he’s a police officer and he’s a police officer in the 18th District…meaning my dad is his boss.

Growing up as the Commander’s daughter and having his magnifying glass focused on everything I did was more than I could handle.

Now, I’m out on my own, living by my own rules. Well, mostly. The ‘job’ I created for myself has me in some hot water and my exit strategy isn’t exactly working out how I’d hoped.

Which is why when my best friend bids on Cristian for me at a charity bachelor auction, I’m not having it. A man in blue is only going to be one thing for me—a problem.

Except after his brother starts dating my best friend he becomes harder to ignore. The eight-pack abs. The sense of style only a girl like me can appreciate. The way he puts his family first. It all adds up to make him one irresistible prospect and has me wondering if he knows how to use those handcuffs the right way—by locking my wrists to his headboard.

Piper Rayne has done it yet again…she has made me fall in love with yet another Bianco brother, this time it’s Cristian, the police officer. I couldn’t help but fall for him and the story he and Vanessa have to tell. Boy, is it a good one!!!!

I knew from the first book that there was some mystery surrounding Vanessa, and I finally got to know what it was. Cristian is the date Vanessa is supposed to go on, bought and paid for by her friend. Every time Cristian asks her, she refuses. Her father is the Commander and is Cristian’s boss. She isn’t interested in dating a cop, and she certainly doesn’t want her father putting his nose in her business. She is used to him knowing everything about her, and she has worked hard to change that, and Cristian certainly doesn’t fit it with that plan. However, he continues to work his way into her heart, making her into a completely different woman than she was at the beginning of the book…becoming the woman she was always meant to be.

What woman wouldn’t love Cristian? He’s incredibly sexy…the man makes compression pants sexy and manly. His most endearing and attractive quality is his heart. He loves his family and makes sure they all know it…even his brothers, who aggravate him to no end. He always checks on his parents and always make sure his brothers remember important dates. He wants to be with Vanessa in all the right ways, but she can take his caring for her as trying to control her. He has his work cut out for him, but if a man can make Vanessa fall for him, it’s Cristian.

I loved the way this book was written from the beginning until the end. Just as with the first book, our Bianco boy begins with a personal note to us. That right there is what makes me feel like I’m a part of the story itself…he’s talking personally to the readers. What a genius way to engage readers!!!! When you add in the humor and laughs, it’s just about a perfect read!!!!

I just love the whole Bianco family. I kind of feel like they are my own, and I love the scenes where all of them are together. Cristian’s mother is a saint…I just loved her. She has a heart of gold, and she doesn’t mind giving it to anyone. It’s because of her love for others that her boys are so special too. I can’t wait to see them again…very soon…it will be Luca’s turn. I’m sure I’ll fall for him too despite his reputation!!!!

EXCERPT

“Not on duty tonight, officer?” I insert sarcasm into my tone because being a bitch will make it easier for him to keep his distance.

“Well, Miss Flanagan, I’m off for two days if you’re wondering.”

I step away from the keg allowing the lingering guys who are talking about hockey a chance to fill their cups.

“That leaves me open for that date.” He cocks an eyebrow.

My head falls back in defeat. “There is no date. You have a pass. Most guys would love the chance to get out of a date with the person who wins them at an auction.”

He sips his beer. “I’m not most guys.”

I sip my beer and don’t respond. He’s right. He’s not most guys. Most guys don’t look like he does. That or I’ve been hanging around the wrong places.

“Some might say that most women would love to go on a date with a police officer.”

“I’m not most women.”

He laughs. One that heats my insides and makes him even more attractive. I know I’m going to be visualizing him the next time I pull out my Unicorn Cock vibrator, but I’ll deal like I always do.

“I agree,” he says when he finishes laughing.

“Perfect. Then it’s a deal. No date.” I smile and turn on my heel heading toward the bonfire.

“Whoa.” His hand gently grabs my arm.

I spin back around.

“You know that’s not what I was saying. Come on, Vanessa. I need your dad off my back. One date. It’s not going to kill anyone.”

I purse my lips, trying to figure out how I’m going to get him to let this topic go. I’ve had one police officer dictating my entire life already, I don’t need another.

“Just lie,” I say with a shrug.

His strong shoulders sag a bit and he shoots me a look like ‘give me a break.’ His eyes are those of an innocent man who probably always does the right thing. I’m doing him a favor keeping him at arm’s length.

“Fine,” I say when the silence stretches out.

He smiles.

I hold a finger up into the air. “You do one thing tonight that you’d never normally do and I’ll go out with you.” I smirk. Let’s see Mr. Squeaky Clean take me up on that offer. I’m picturing my victory already.

“What?” He screws his face up then sips his beer.

I cross my arms around my middle, waiting for him to say no way so that I can move on. “You heard me. One spontaneous thing. Here. Tonight.”

“Like what?” he asks, his eyes scanning the area around us that I now realize is quickly emptying out. Half these people probably have babysitters to get home to.

I shrug. “That’s for you to decide.”

His forehead bunches. “What do you want me to do? Jump over the fire or some shit like that?”

“I’d prefer if you didn’t end up in the emergency room, so no, I don’t expect you to jump over a roaring fire. That would ruin Maddie and Mauro’s night.”

A pissed off look crosses his face and he downs most of his beer.

“That’s it, let’s go, Cris. It’s two against two and I need a guy.” Luca, Cristian’s little brother, twirls a soccer ball on his finger as he steps up to us. Lauren follows behind with a girl I don’t recognize.

“What?” Cristian glares over at his brother. “I’m not playing soccer tonight in the pitch dark.”

He has a point.

“Come on Cris. Lauren says she can score five goals on me.” Luca glances over to Lauren who has a shit-eating grin on her face, and he rolls his eyes.

Cristian blows out a breath. Lauren saddles up to my side, kicking the soccer ball from Luca’s hands. She does some fancy footwork then kicks the ball in the air before catching it. That girl has coordination I do not.

“The answer is no. Find Bentley, he’s over there.” He points toward the bonfire.

Luca must know his brother never does something he doesn’t want to do because he barrels away from us without a word.

“What’s going on over here?” Lauren asks, walking backward, twirling the soccer ball on one finger like Luca was moments ago.

“Nothing,” I say.

“Lauren, what’s the craziest thing I can do tonight?” Cristian hollers out and Lauren’s feet stop, staring at me over his shoulder.

She knows this game. We play it often. Well, not since college when guys tend to think they can say hello and you’ll be falling all over them. There’s nothing wrong with making them work to impress you a little. It builds character. LOL.

Lauren being Lauren pretends to think about it. In the past, we’ve had guys shave their heads or their eyebrows, dress in girl’s clothing, striptease with a pair of girl’s panties on. God knows what Lauren’s going to recommend.

“You’re a smart boy, Bianco. Turn the tables,” she says. “What’s the worst thing you could do to Vanessa tonight?”

I flip her off. Nice friend I got there. Who wants her?

A devilish smile creeps onto Cristian’s lips. “Anyone tell you, you’re a fucking genius, Lauren?”

She laughs. “All the time. Tell your brother for me though.”

Luca comes over, stealing the soccer ball from her hands, while a guy tripping over his own feet follows behind. The girl and guy standing on the sidelines watching Lauren and Luca argue about who goes first.

“So, Officer Bianco, what will it be?” I cock a hip and a brow.

“Maybe a date with you isn’t worth the embarrassment?” He steps closer and I back up an inch, unease setting in as his demeanor grows more confident and sure.

I shrug. “That’s fine. I’m happy to split ways now.”

He takes another giant step forward and sips the remaining beer from his cup, tossing it down to the grass, his gaze intense and set on whatever he’s about to do.

“What are you doing?” I ask, my voice weaker than I’d prefer.

We’re chest to chest now because he’s taken me by surprise and I forgot to flee with his approach. Okay and maybe his eyes mesmerized me. A little. Not much.

“I’m going to do the one thing I didn’t think I’d do tonight.” His voice has dropped an octave and we’re alone in the darkness of the forest now where the warmth of the bonfire has disappeared. A cold chill runs across my cheeks until Cristian’s hands land on either side of my face. “I’m going to kiss you.”

His lips fall to mine. Did I say it was cold? It’s not. It’s warm. Cristian’s mouth on mine steals the chill from my body. I should knee him in the balls or at least push him away, but I don’t. Instead, my lips betray me and move in time with his. I wrap my arms around his neck and I rise to my tiptoes, kissing him back.

His arms cradle me flush against his body, his tongue exploring mine and under the canopy of the forest, away from any prying eyes, Cristian Bianco sets my body on fire.

I love breaking other people’s rules, but I’m not sure about breaking my own.

Fantastic insta-love story!!
Avery is in Vegas for her best friend’s bachelorette party. As a dare, she kisses a stranger at a bar, never expecting the powerful connection she would feel towards him and vice versa. When circumstances bring Avery to spend more time with the handsome stranger, Gage, it becomes harder for the two to deny the chemistry between them and walk away once the getaway is over in Vegas. Can something that began on a dare build to something that will last forever?
This is my second book by this author and I loved it as much as the first!! The characters in this story are wonderful and real and I loved most of the secondary characters as well. The story flowed very well and reminded me why sometimes insta-love just works! Sometimes it feels good to read a sweet story with very little drama and one smoking hot alpha male. I am definitely a fan and will continue to read this author!!

Great beginning to what promises to be a fantastic historical mystery series!!!!

Rosett had me intrigued with her first few lines of the book. I knew I was going to enjoy the story and the main character, Olive. I was right!!!! It far exceeded all my expectations.

Olive has left her aristocratic home to find work in London as a writer for a newspaper. Home isn’t home with her father’s new wife. However, the job prospects for a woman aren’t all that great. When her aunt asks her to look into the background of her daughter, Violet’s beau, Alfred, she agrees. She has no clue she will become involved in a murder investigation. She has no choice when Violet is suspected of murdering Alfred. This is the beginning of a fantastic murder mystery full of twist and turns and insights into the upper class at that time period.

Olive was quite interesting. She was a woman ahead of her time, not wanting to rely on her family’s money, but she wanting to rely on herself. That wasn’t always easy for a woman in the 1920s. She was somewhat of an outsider who was trying desperately to find exactly where she did fit in. Rosett created such an intelligent, witty and very resourceful character in Olive. I can’t wait to see what other mysteries she solves in the future.

The book was extremely well-written and well-researched! Make sure to check out “The Story Behind the Story” at the end of the book. It will give you insight into how Rosett created this story and her characters. If you like historical mysteries with a strong, intelligent heroine, you won’t want to miss this one!!!!

Christie’s Review

5 STARS

The Heartless Boyfriend is the perfect combination of sexy and sweet made even better by a great storyline and wonderful characters!!!!

This book is the second one in the series. Don’t worry…it can be read as a standalone. I haven’t read the first book, although, it’s now on my Kindle TBR list. I found the book easy to follow even though I didn’t have the background of the previous book.

Will and Delilah are complete opposites, yet they find themselves at a crossroads in their lives dealing with the same issue…proving themselves to their families, even if it is under different circumstances. Life has thrown them a curveball, but it will change their lives forever.

Will is an athlete just on the cusp of realizing his dream of possibly joining the Olympic team. However, when a sweet little girl, Ruby, enters his life, it could possibly change everything. Will prides himself on self-discipline. With the arrival of Ruby, that upends life as he knows it. She has no concept of training schedules. She just misses his mother. Life changes even more when Delilah enters his life. She is in town for a cooking competition. She makes him feel things he has never felt. Yet, he is ruled by his mind not his heart, but these two females may just crack his cold heart.

Delilah has always dreamed of opening her own family restaurant. Yet, those dreams are crushed when she receives a crushing food review. Her family has lost faith in her. She travels thousands of miles away to win a cooking competition. This is her only hope of getting the money she needs to return back home and open her very own restaurant. Unlike Will, she is mostly ruled by her heart. She falls in love with little Ruby instantly. As she spends more time with Will, she begins to fall for him too. Her road to success and love will be mired with many obstacles. I just kept my fingers crossed that Will would finally open his eyes!

The book is told in the third person but with a dual POV. That allowed me to see more deeply who both characters were. Both of them have always had dreams they have worked hard to achieve, but is it really for themselves or for others? Delilah wants to prove herself to her family, and Will wants to make his mother really “see him” and finally open her heart to him. As they will discover,  they each have to love themselves and not try to do things to make others love them.

As you can see, I loved the characters. Ruby completely melted my heart, and she was a driving force in the book. She had as much to do with Will’s softening heart as Delilah did. To me, she was the anchor to the story. The storyline was very well thought out as well. The romance was sort of a slow burn even though it happened over a short period of time. Not many writers could pull that off, but Kelly certainly did. This was a romance packed with emotion!!!

I am a new reader to Erika Kelly and this series, and to say that I was impressed would be an understatement!!! She definitely has a new fan in me!!!!

Excerpt

As the warm water rushed over her soapy hands, Delilah thought about her immediate reaction to Will’s question about whether she’d leave if her family gave her the restaurant back, the way her heart had seized. It would mean the world to have them believe in her enough to support her franchise.

At the same time, though, she’d had a stab of fear. She didn’t want to leave Will and his sister, the competition, and this sprawling ranch filled with ice-cold creeks and wild animals, cabins, trails, and teal-colored lakes.

These feelings for Will…she couldn’t explain it. He wasn’t her type, and yet she wanted to spend every damn minute with him. And that kiss in the hydroponic farm?

She’d never had a kiss like that. Something so electric, so erotic. It had uncorked this desperate need for more. It wasn’t just exciting to kiss in the hallway outside the tasting kitchen…it had called on something deep, primal. Him.

Mine.

She’d had this crazy feeling like, if she didn’t get closer to him, meld with him, she would combust.

Shutting off the faucet, she reached for a clean dish towel.

No question, Will was an intimidating man. His energy bristled with purpose, and he didn’t waste a single moment, word, or calorie. Everywhere he went, people stopped and watched him. It was almost comical when someone froze in the middle of licking an ice cream cone to take him in. Women eyed him with want and possession; men eyed him with awe and envy.

But nobody saw those moments when he held his sister and agonized over whether he was doing right by her. No one saw him curled up in her bed reading books, as she bounced Squawk in her lap.

And the way he looks at me? That carnal hunger—the promise of what he’d do to her body if they were alone—Glory be—it sent a direct hit to her heart, making her giddy.

She liked him, for sure. But that kiss made her realize she more than liked him.

God, she had to have him. Just had to.

The hall has been booked, the flowers have been ordered, and the invitations have been sent. Everything is finally falling into place for the happy couple, or so it seems.

That is until a hunter the likes of the old DC Sniper has his sights set on New Jersey Law Enforcement and suddenly the thin blue line has a big, old target painted on their backs. It’s open season on police officers and federal agents alike. She might be the best damn detective in the state of New Jersey but even this case has Claire running for her life.

Not to mention the loss of one of her inner circle seems to have shook something loose in her mind. Claire’s memories of that long ago day when she was taken from her home as a child are surfacing one after another. But will she remember before it’s too late?

It’s like they always say, every story has its ending.

Are you ready for this one?

It’s gonna sting.

What a way to end the series…at least Claire’s story!!!!

Claire is FINALLY near her wedding day to Wesley.  As anyone who has read this series knows, Claire’s and Wesley’s road to happiness has been a hard one, full of obstacles. Their trip down the aisle will be no different.

Rebecca has done a fantastic job of developing this series, keeping it fresh and full of suspense. This book is no different. She actually steps the suspense up a bit with two plots occuring. Not many writers could pull that off, but Rebecca does!!! There is a sniper who is going after law enforcement, and it may be connected somehow to Claire. If that wasn’t enough stress, her nightmares are getting more vivid, and she seems to be remembering more of her kidnapping as a child. Could she finally be remembering who the monster was who did this to her?

With all the mystery and suspense, Rebecca never leaves out the emotions, whether it’s the steam between Claire and Wesley or the pain of her nightmares. There are lots of twists and turns throughout the book. But, my favorite part is the epilogue…it’s not any normal epilogue, as the chapter says, it’s “epic.”

This is a great series. I loved each and every book. Even though each book was a different case, the storyline of the main characters continued to develop. Soon, we will finally get Liam’s book!!!! Can’t wait for that one!!!!!

English professor Lila Maclean knew drama would be involved when she agreed to consult on Stonedale University’s production of Puzzled: The Musical.

But she didn’t expect to find herself cast into such chaos: the incomprehensible play is a disaster, the crumbling theater appears to be haunted, and, before long, murder takes center stage.

The show must go on—yet as they speed toward opening night, it becomes clear that other members of the company may be targeted as well. Lila searches for answers while contending with a tenacious historical society, an eccentric playwright, an unsettling psychic, an enigmatic apparition, and a paranormal search squad.

With all of this in play, will she be able to identify who killed her colleague…or will it soon be curtains for Lila too?

Great mixture of mystery and paranormal!!!!

Lila is working for the first time as a dramatic consultant for the production of Puzzled: The Musical, but the director either ignores her or touts his own decisions as “brilliant.” Like many on campus, she doesn’t think this production will be a success. But, they forge ahead since the creator is a professor at the university. She had no idea this venture would lead to murder.

The mystery itself was full of twists and turns which kept me guessing, especially when it seems other people who are involved in the production are targeted as well. Lila is witty and intelligent, a very likeable character. The cast of quirky secondary characters add to the storyline itself. I’m a huge fan of the paranormal, so I loved that addition. I really loved how the author actually made the Opera House itself a character!

If you are looking for a smart, intelligent cozy mystery, I highly recommend reading this one and the entire series! Be sure to check out the author’s note at the end of the book! I found it quite fascinating!!!

Long Live the Beautiful Hearts (Beautiful Hearts Duet #2) by Emma Scott Blog Tour with Review!!!!

Never again would I allow my heart to become the plaything of someone else.
Never again would I let a man (or men) come between me and my goals.
Never again would I love without feeling the fullness of that love in return.
Not until I knew it was real. And if that took me a lifetime to find, so be it.

Those were my vows, and after all that had happened with Connor and Weston, I was determined to keep them. To protect my heart.
And then he came home, and my vows became his promises.

He held my heart in his hands with reverence and care.
He helped me find my soul’s greatest purpose in life.
He loved me with a love so pure and vibrant, I knew I’d never feel anything like it in a hundred lifetimes.
It was real.

Until it wasn’t.
Until it all came crashing down when I discovered the deep love I thought I’d found was nestled in a web of lies—so soft and silken I hadn’t noticed it was there.
Until it was too late.

Long Live the Beautiful Hearts is the emotional, heart-wrenching conclusion to the Beautiful Hearts Duet by bestselling author, Emma Scott, and is inspired by the classic tale, Cyrano de Bergerac. (Roxanne) THIS IS NOT YOUR TYPICAL LOVE TRIANGLE
THIS BOOK IS NOT A STANDALONE. It should not be read without first reading Bring Down the Stars

A Top 10 Read of 2018

An All-Time Favorite Read

I fell in love with Emma Scott, along with the story, and the characters she created in Book 1 of this duet, Bring Down the Stars. I was heartbroken and unsure of what Book 2 would hold for me after finishing the previous book. Emma Scott completely blew my expectations out of the water.

Hands down, this is my favorite book of 2018 and a top 10 in my all-time favorite reads. This is one of those reviews that I hope I can convey my thoughts so that other readers can see what a phenomenal book this truly is. What makes it even harder is that I can’t write too much about it because I can’t spoil anything. The characters and the story captured not only my mind but my heart and soul. It can be incredibly difficult to read at times, really hard, my heart broke at times. However, in all the pain is hope, love, and joy! A character in the book relays that in  the story he tell of the “Once Born and the Twice Born.” He says about the Twice Born:

The man who walks into the dark forest of his life and suffers. Sometimes unimaginably. The way back is forever closed to him, but the Twice Born man walk forward. The path becomes more twisted, the hardships seemingly impossible to overcome. But he keeps going until one day, the shadows lift. The branches cease to scratch at his skin and they part for him. He’ll regard the scars with pride as he emerges from the forest reborn. Stronger for what he has endured. Wiser. Transformed. And grateful for the lessons he learned.

For me, that passage illustrates exactly what this book is about!!! Each character I met from the first book will be transformed by the end of the second book, and it’s difficult, sad, yet somehow, beautiful.

Emma Scott is one of those very rare writers whose words can transform her readers. Her words are magical and find a way into your heart. That kind of talent is hard to find. This duet, the characters, and Emma Scott’s words will stay with me for a lifetime!!!!!

I fell for Connor Drake. I didn’t want to; I fought against it, but I fell in love with him anyway. With his words. With his poetry. With him. The gentleness and beauty of his soul that speaks directly to mine. He writes as if he can feel my heart, hear its cadence and compose the exact right lyrics to accompany every beat and flow.

I’m in love with Connor…so why do I feel an inexplicable pull to his best friend, Weston? Grouchy, sullen, brooding Weston Turner, who could cut you down with a look. Fiercely intelligent with a razor sharp wit and acid tongue, he’s the exact opposite of Connor in every way, and yet there’s electricity in the air between us. The thorny barbs Weston wraps around himself can’t keep me away.

But the more time I spend with these men, the more tangled and confused my emotions become. When they both sign up for the Army Reserves during a time of increasing strife in the Middle East, I fear I’ll never unravel my own heart that sometimes feels as if it will tear straight down the middle…for both of them.

Now I’ve returned to Manhattan for redemption, too.

Great second chance romance with all the steam and emotions!!!

When I read the synopsis of Legacy of Lies, it really caught my interest. It did more than that….it blew me away!

I love when a book surprises me, and this one really did surprise me. I was expecting one thing from the synopsis, but I got something else…which I LOVED!!! Tripp and Jolie were young and in love until their families essentially ruined that love. Now, it’s a decade later, and neither of them have seen or spoken to each other. That changes when Tripp hears her voice on the other end of phone call. She is interested in hiring his company, RiskTaker, to check out a possible investor in the new company she wants to start, and guess who the consultant is…yep, Tripp. This is where the story really takes off…many secrets and betrayals will be revealed, and I loved watching these two find their way back to each other.

Tripp and Jolie were both very complex characters, each keeping secrets from the other. Tripp is very intriguing. I think the author describes him perfectly when she writes, he was “like if Robin Hood had been an accountant instead of an outlaw.” Without spoiling anything, he is taking a bad situation and trying to do something good. Jolie is also a great character. She, like Tripp, had been dealt a bad hand, but she is doing whatever it takes to makes things better for her and her family.

I was a fan of Tara Leigh when I read her Nothing But Trouble Series, and I am an even bigger fan now. This second chance romance has it all…steam, romance, secrets, betrayals, and mystery. You can’t go wrong with this one!!!

For fans of Betty Hechtman and Maggie Sefton, the latest craft frenzy is Holly Quinn’s Handcrafted series debut.

Sammy Kane just moved back to her hometown to run a craft store. But when the owner of a nearby yarn shop is murdered, Sammy will needle little help finding the killer.

When a heartbroken Samantha “Sammy” Kane returns to her hometown of Heartsford, WI, for her best friend Kate’s funeral, she learns that Kate’s much-loved craft store is in danger of perishing with its owner. Confounding all her expectations of the life she would live, Sammy moves back home with her golden retriever and takes over Community Craft. A few doors down Main Street, fellow new arrival Ingrid Wilson has just opened the Yarn Barn, a real “purl” of a shop. But when Sammy strolls over to see if Ingrid could use a little help, she finds Ingrid’s dead body—with a green aluminum knitting needle lodged in her throat.

Detective Liam Nash is thrown for a loop as every single citizen of Heartsford seems to have a theory about Ingrid’s murder. And nearly everyone in town seems to be a suspect. But the last time Sammy did any sleuthing was as a little moppet. And this is not fun and games. Sammy is eager to help the handsome Liam—who seems to be endlessly inventive in finding reasons to talk with her—and when Liam arrests affable woodworker Miles Danbury, Sammy puts everything on the line to help clear Miles.

As the case comes dangerously close to unraveling, Sammy must stitch the clues together. But the killer has other plans—and if Sammy’s not careful, she may wind up in a perilous knot in A Crafter Knits a Clue, the first warm and woolly yarn of Holly Quinn’s new Handcrafted mysteries.

Christie’s Review

4.5 STARS

I am always excited when I get to read the beginning of a new series, so I was very excited about reading A Crafter Knits a Clue. Holly Quinn exceeded my expectations!

Sammy has just moved back to her hometown after her best friend, Kate, passed away. She knew she had no other choice when she learned Kate’s store was in danger of closing. Sammy knew she couldn’t let that happen. Community Crafts was more than a store. It was the glue for that small town. It brought people together through fundraisers and had a way of bringing the town together. She is looking forward to making it thrive again, but it won’t be as easy as she thought, especially when she becomes involved in a murder investigation. She certainly wasn’t expecting to find Ingrid’s body when she walked over to the Yarn Barn to see if Ingrid needed some help. She is determined to find the killer even if her own life is in danger.

Liam Nash is the detective in charge of solving the murder. When Sammy sees the new detective, she wasn’t expecting him to be so good-looking. As the story progresses, there is a possibility that something more might develop. However, Sammy is somewhat scared of letting someone in for fear of losing someone else she cares about. I like that Quinn isn’t rushing this relationship; it makes it more realistic.

I loved the mystery itself. However, I also love the community and setting Quinn has created. It is an atmosphere I am going to love coming back to again and again. Quinn also throws a bit of a twist near the end. Readers will know what I’m talking about once they read it. The icing on the cake is at the end with suggested yarns for different projects. I always love when I get a little something extra at the end!!! Great book, and I’m looking forward to the next book in the series.

Till It Stops Beating by Hannah R. Goodman Blog Tour with Review

Till It Stops Beating

Till It Stops Beating

by Hannah R. Goodman

Synopsis

Seventeen-year-old Maddie Hickman’s senior year begins with the good (the reemergence of The One That Got Away), the bad (a cancer diagnosis, not hers, but it might as well be) and the WTF (an anxiety attack that renders her writhing on the floor like an upside down crab).

Adding to her spiraling anxiety is Senior Project, in the form of I’ve Decided To Write A Book about The Other One That Got Away (And Crushed My Heart). Compounding it all is applying to college and keeping up with her friends. The ever mounting stress eventually rips her tight grip on all that she holds dear.

Her break down leads to an unexpected road trip where she is forced to listen to her wildly beating heart. It is only in the back of a convertible with pop music blasting, that she discovers she must risk everything in order to really live.

Christie’s Review

4 STARS

Till It Stops Beating is an emotional and touching book about a young woman who is on the brink of adulthood and the anxiety she endures while making that journey.

Maddie is a senior with great friends, Peter and Susan. She also has a great family who is extremely supportive of her. Life should be great for Maddie, but the darkness of anxiety is slowly creeping up on her. She has had some bad things happen in her life. The boy who always held her heart, Justin, went away because of his drug addiction, and she lost another boy, Zak, in a horrible accident. Now, her grandmother is in the battle of her life with cancer. All these things brew into a perfect storm giving her the anxiety attack of all anxiety attacks. She will have to fight and claw her way back into living life again. It isn’t any easy journey, but Maddie has the strength to do it if she would just believe in herself.

This book had several themes going on: friendship, family, mental health issues, and love. The author did a great job of balancing all of that, never leaving anything out, and always tugging at my heart. One of my very favorite things was the relationship Maddie shared with her grandmother. No matter what the outcome of her grandmother’s battle with cancer, Maddie will always carry her in her heart, and she will be a guiding force in her life ALWAYS!

I thought the author also did a great job of highlighting anxiety and how very crushing and isolating it can be. It makes you feel like everyone else around you is living their lives, but you aren’t. You’re stuck with the paralyzing fear, and it takes a strong person to fight against something that feels like it will drown you at times. However, she gives her readers real hope in managing this disorder and the real possibility of living a happy and fulfilling life.
