Autumn Antics (The Boardwalk by the Sea Book 2)

by Georgina Troy

Synopsis

Being a part-time hand model can be tricky, especially when you have to deal with prima donnas like Megan Knight, a reality star whose meteoric rise has surprised everyone. Bella is happiest running her tiny antique business from the front room of her cottage on the boardwalk. To ensure she has enough income coming in, she also rents out two of her bedrooms and is hiding a secret crush on one of her lodgers. His name is Jack and he also happens to be her best friend Sacha’s brother.

If life wasn’t complicated enough, her world-travelling mother appears on her doorstep on the same evening that Jack’s ex-fiancée arrives on the boardwalk determined to win him back. Bella has a lot of thinking to do and soon discovers that not all gems sparkle.

Sweet, enjoyable read with memorable characters!

Autumn Antics centers around Bella. This is the second book in a series, but it can be read as a standalone!

Bella is a part-time hand model, but she loves her beloved island home. She runs a tiny antique business, and she rents her home out to two lodgers. She has had a crush on one of her lodgers,Jack, for years. She is hoping the two can maybe discover a relationship outside the bounds of friendship, but there are about to be a lot of obstacles put in their path.

Jack’s ex shows up trying to get back together. Then, her long lost mother returns hoping to repair the relationship she broke years ago. If that wasn’t enough, reality star, Megan Knight, shows up as well. With all these distractions, will she and Jack ever get their chance?

I found the storyline very enjoyable. The setting was absolutely stunning. The author did an amazing job of taking right there to that beautiful island. The characters are quirky, and I loved them. The romance between Jack and Bella was everything I hoped it would be and the wait was well worth it.

Christmas at the Little Duck Pond Cafe (Little Duck Pond Cafe, Book 3) Blog Tour with Review

Christmas at the Little Duck Pond Cafe

Christmas at The Little Duck Pond Cafe

by Rosie Green

Synopsis

Fen has always hated being the centre of attention.
She loves her new job, working behind the scenes at the Little Duck Pond Cafe and baking the scrumptious cakes that have helped its reputation soar. But frankly, she’d rather scrub the public toilet floor with a toothbrush than have to come out and talk to the customers.
She’s always been happy to stay in the background as long as she has a good supply of books to escape into. That’s her kind of romance – the fictional sort where she can read about other people taking a chance on love, but she doesn’t have to risk her own heart.
But that was before Ethan Fox arrived in the village and turned her world upside down. Ethan is a leading light in the local amateur dramatics theatre company and Fen knows he’s way out of her league.
But when the popular village Christmas pantomime hits a crisis, Fen and Ethan find themselves thrown together. Can Fen overcome her shyness and find the courage to step on stage and save the day?

Rosie Green has created a wonderful series with great characters I have come to absolutely love! I have LOVED all of the books, but this one is by far my favorite so far!!!

This one Fen’s story, and boy does she have a story to tell. I have always loved Fen, and I can relate to her. I have always been much quieter than my friends, so I can understand Fen’s struggle with fitting in. It takes a great deal to step out of your comfort zone, and I was so happy that she had reached a point to speak up for herself and try new things. She was incredibly talented and intelligent. I wanted her to take the opportunities that were in front of her. I was so glad she had someone like Rob in her corner that was so supportive of her and urged her to take a chance on things. She does find herself attracted to two very different men, Ethan and Rob. She has always had a crush on Ethan, and he is finally noticing her. Rob has been steadfast in his support of her, but she isn’t sure if he sees her as anything more than a friend. She will have to look deeper into each man to discover the one she belongs with.

Even though this is Fen’s story, I was excited to see the characters I have come to love from the earlier novels. Jaz and Ellie are going through some of their own issues with their boyfriends. We do get some insight into that, but it never takes away from Fen’s story. I got a deeper look into her complicated relationship with her mother. This is an important part of the book as her mother has played a big part in the adult she has become.

This is really one of my favorite series. I love the setting, and I always feel like I’m a part of the story myself. The characters are different from one another, and I really like quirky characters. One thing is a bit different in this book. There is a question in this book that isn’t quite answered, and I see that the next book in the series is about Fen as well. Don’t fear…no cliffhanger! However, I am intrigued how Fen will react when she discovers the answer to her unanswered question!

Rosie Green Author Pic (1)

Rosie Green has been scribbling stories ever since she was little. Back then they were rip-roaring adventure tales with a young heroine in perilous danger of falling off a cliff or being tied up by ‘the baddies’. Thankfully, Rosie has moved on somewhat, and now much prefers to write romantic comedies that melt your heart and make you smile, with really not much perilous danger involved at all, unless you count the heroine losing her heart in love.

Rosie’s brand new series of novellas is centred on life in a village café. The first two stories in the series are: Spring at The Little Duck Pond Cafe and Summer at The Little Duck Pond Café.

Very well-written and thought provoking book!

Looking at Kate from the outside, at first glance, you would think she lives a life anyone would envy. However, if you took a deeper look, you would see it’s anything but that. She lives a double-life. She is a successful businesswoman and travels all over the world, meeting interesting people along the way. At home, if’s very different, she has lived with a man who is quick-tempered and abusive. As she continues to travel, she begins to think maybe there is a better, happy future for her, but she is the one who has to take that first step before things get a lot worse.

There were times I wanted to slap some sense into Kate. She is by no means perfect. She has flings with men, but she always goes home to Daniel every single time. Her taste in men at times is definitely not the best. I wanted her to get off the dangerous merry go round she was on, yet I could understand her reasons because of her fear and self-confidence issues which are all parts of being captive in a violent relationship with someone.

I thought Isabella May did a great job of showing her readers some aspects of domestic violence that we may not always see or even know about. Kate is successful. She does travel, and she seeks the companionship of men who may give her a brief respite. She also shows us those men don’t fix the issue. Kate has do do that for herself. She has to learn to love herself and be healthy before she can jump into another relationship. She told  Kate’s story with love, understanding, and even gave us a few laughs. Hopefully, someone in a similar relationship will read Kate’s story and take his or her first step to finding a life that is both safe and happy!

Isabella May lives in (mostly) sunny Andalucia, Spain with her husband, daughter and son, creatively inspired by the sea and the mountains. When she isn’t having her cake and eating it, sampling a new cocktail on the beach, or ferrying her children to and from after school activities, she can usually be found writing. As a co-founder and a former contributing writer for the popular online women’s magazine, The Glass House Girls – www.theglasshousegirls.com – she has also been lucky enough to subject the digital world to her other favourite pastimes, travel, the Law of Attraction, and Prince (The Purple One). She has recently become a Book Fairy, and is having lots of fun with her imaginative ‘drops’! Costa del Churros is her third novel with Crooked Cat Books, following on from the hit sensations, Oh! Q & A with Isabella May

How did you come up with the idea for this book?

Seven years, a whole lot of brainstorming, a burning desire to dispel the myth that a violent relationship is violent all of the time, a background in publishing, and a huge love of cake.

What was your favorite things about each character?

Well, there are a lot of versatile characters jumping across the pages of ‘Oh! What a Pavlova’, so we’d be here a while if I listed them all…

I’ll plump for three of the main females instead:

Kate – spontaneous, intuitive, creative

Daisy – literary, supportive, dependable, an excellent listener

Steph – body positive, self-assured, rule-breaker

Do you have a playlist you listen to when writing?

No, I need absolute silence when I write. The lyrics of my favourite artists would probably end up in my sentences! I’ve yet to experiment with a little light classical music as a backdrop though…

Any favorite foods/drinks you like while writing?

Coffee, cake, and copious amounts of water.

When did you know you wanted to be a writer?

I think my inner-self has been nudging me in this direction all my life. As a small child I would create witty stories complete with (badly drawn!) illustrations. As a slightly older kid, I moved on to surreptitiously passing folded concertina paper games of ‘Consequences’ around the classroom. As a grown-up (although I’m not sure I’ve done a whole lot of that), I loved nothing more than to concoct essay-style emails in the workplace in response to my male colleagues’ bullet point questions.

What are some are your favorite reads?

I’m a huge fan of Joanne Harris and love the way she fuses magical realism into real life. Daisy James and Julie Caplin write some pretty damn good romantic comedies. I’m also a sucker for a bit of Jonas Jonasson wit, as well as a Julian Fellowes period drama.
