A Gentleman for Christmas, an all-new standalone contemporary romance by Prescott Lane.

Some say “chivalry is dead.”

I don’t think so. Most women I know like a gentleman.

Protective, opens doors, treats women with respect, typically follows the rules.

But a gentleman doesn’t fall for his best friend’s woman. Current or ex.

And that’s what I’ve done.

During the Christmas season of all times — that magical time for decorations, gifts, family . . .

Yes, the girl who was off-limits for so long, who I’ve loved all my life, has come back in town and possibly back to me.

I can’t follow the gentleman rules this time. There’s too much at stake. I let her go once. I won’t let her go again.

What happens under the mistletoe, stays under the mistletoe.

Or does it?

Another must read from Prescott Lane!

Jax had a pact with his best guy friends, the main part of the pact was that they would never let a girl come between them so if one liked a girl, she was off limits to the other friends. This rule meant that when his best friend said he was in love with Skylar, a female friend of theirs, Jax had to back off even though he was in love with her, too. Now, as an adult, Jax has written “The Gentleman’s Handbook” full of gentleman rules to follow.

Skylar thought Luke was The One and has been with him for 10 years. But when there is still no proposal after all this time, she figures it is time to cut her losses and move on. She goes home to visit and lick her wounds and reconnects with Jax, her longtime childhood friend. Skylar had a crush on Jax years ago but figured he never felt the same. She is shocked to learn that he has always loved her.

Can these two break the rules and find happiness together?

I loved Jax and Skylar’s story! They had such great chemistry and I loved getting both of their POV. This story was a perfect holiday romance – lots of sweetness without a lot of angst. Prescott Lane always pulls me right into each story and this one is no different. Highly recommended to put you right in the holiday spirit!

Excerpt:

“Thou shalt not covet thy neighbor’s wife.”

Otherwise known as the original bros before hoes commandment.

I’m not advocating calling women hoes. It’s an expression, so put away your Encyclopedia of Political Correctness.

There are rules in life. The Ten Commandments were just the beginning. We have rules for everything. How to drive. How to dress. How to walk across the damn street. So why not rules for love? That’s how all this started — a set of rules between my buddies and me.

The Bro Code.

Obviously, bros before hoes is rule one. We vowed never to let a girl come between us, which meant if one of us liked a girl, she was forever off limits.

Little did I know our teenage pact would launch my multi-million dollar career. A little tweaking here and some socially acceptable rewording there and The Gentleman’s Handbook was born.

I’ve written books and given seminars on everything from how to find love, to how to propose, to how to have a successful long-distance relationship. You name it, and I’ve got rules for it. Personally, I’ve never been much of a rule follower, but that’s my little secret.

The funny thing is I’ve never been in love. Well, there is this one girl, but we won’t talk about her. It does no good to think about someone you can’t have and never will.

My lack of emotional commitment hasn’t slowed down my career one bit. Currently, I have two books on the New York Times Best Sellers List. My seminars sell out like a Drake concert.

I always find it interesting that the rules started between a group of male friends, but it’s mostly women that come to hear me speak. Occasionally, you see the poor sap boyfriend who was dragged along to listen, but for the most part it’s all women.

This time of the year is no exception. December first until January first is important for guys. Holidays are big for a lot of couples. If you don’t know what you’re doing for your lady, you better figure it out and fast. In fact, my rule is that you should be paying attention all year long.

Trust me on this. If you remember something she mentioned she liked three months ago and surprise her with it at Christmas, she’ll spread her legs before Santa even has time to slide down the chimney. Let’s be honest, that is always at least part of the goal for guys.

So my current work in progress tackles Christmas. A how-to guide for the holidays.

The Gentleman’s Rules for Christmas.

A Hollow Sky

A Hollow Sky

by M. Sean Coleman

Synopsis

A SUSPENSEFUL, ATMOSPHERIC THRILLER.

Jane Hewitt had been miraculously healed—cured of a terminal cancer that had been eating away at her body for months. After one meeting with an incredible young woman, Jane rose from her wheelchair and walked out, believing that her lifetime of devoted faith had been rewarded.

The next day, Jane died in her husband’s arms, devastated that her God had deserted her. Her husband, Ian, blames her hastened death on the faith healer she visited. But that faith healer is a teenage girl called Megan, who has been in a coma for five years, and has no say over how her gift is used.

When Ian is arrested after being accused of breaking in to Megan’s house and trying to tamper with her life support, he turns to the only person he knows can help clear his name, and stop this family deceiving any other victims—Dr Alex Ripley, the so called Miracle Detective.

Fascinated by Megan’s case, and needing a distraction, Ripley finds herself on Holy Island, off the coast of North Wales, caught up in an investigation that will prove more sinister and dangerous than she could have imagined. Ian is not the first person to complain about Megan and her supporters, but he seems to be the only one left alive. For now.

A Hollow Sky is the second Alex Ripley Mystery

Christie’s Review

5 STARS

Sean Coleman has given us another brilliant mystery!!!! This series is one of the best mystery series I have read this year!!!

This is the second book in the Alex Ripley series, and it is just as good as the first! I was riveted from the very first pages. I couldn’t wait to delve into this mystery…what an intriguing and tangled web little jewel this one is. Alex finds herself pulled into another mystery that will test her boundaries. Alex met Ian on one of her appearances in which she was trying to expose fake faith healers. Ian took his wife to a young girl who was in a coma in hopes of healing her from terminal cancer. His hopes are high when his wife, Jane, walked again. He was able to hold her again. Only hours later she was dead, and he vowed to expose those who took his Jane away. When an attempt is made on Megan’s life by way of her life support, Ian is of course the first suspect. Alex comes to his rescue when summoned. However, this is just the beginning of this convoluted case….many others who have accused Megan and her family of being fakes have disappeared.

As usual, Coleman kept me guessing with all the twists he threw my way.  What just blew me away was how he created a character, Megan, in which no other character knows what is going on in her mind; she is in a coma. Yet, he gives us, his readers, a look into her thoughts. My heart really went out to her! His other characters were well thought out and developed as well. There are some I really detested, and some I didn’t. You will understand that when you read it. He also gave me more insight into Alex’s life. I’m interested in what her future holds.

Coleman has a way of pulling the reader right into the book with the way in which he writes. He engages almost every one of my senses. Mysteries don’t usually do that for me, but he writes an incredible atmospheric thriller. If you haven’t discovered this series, you really need discover this talented writer.

4 STARS
Max and Harlow meet at a mutual friend’s wedding and the sparks fly instantly. They have a one-night stand never expecting to see each other again. Fast forward a year and these two are suddenly back in each other’s lives. The connection is still the same but Harlow is scared to open herself up to Max and possible heartbreak. Harlow can’t ignore the chemistry between her and Max but is it just sex or is there something deeper between them? Can Max convince Harlow to give him a chance?

This story had it all – sweet, heartwarming moments and swoony, hot and sexy times between Max and Harlow. Max is the perfect alpha male and I loved that Harlow was a strong female character. I loved how this book is set in a small town in Alaska and all the small town feels of the community. This is not the first book in this series, but can be read as a standalone.  I really enjoyed the author’s writing style and will continue to check out other books by her.

Tequila Tequila by Emma Hart Blog Tour with Review & Excerpt

Tequila + you best friend + your bedroom = um, whoopsie?

Tequila Tequila, an all-new hilarious standalone romantic comedy from New York Times bestselling author Emma Hart is available NOW!

TT-FULL

Don’t sleep with your best friend.

Take it from me. I did it. And it was awful.

I-wish-the-tequila-made-me-forget kind of bad.

The problem is, Luke has forgotten. He swears that he can’t remember a thing about that night beyond the trays of tequila shots being set on the tables.

Except I can’t forget. I can’t forget how good his hands felt until I fell over and hit my hip on the dresser, and I sure as hell can’t forget the entire two minutes of tap-tap-squirt.

Awkward. Embarrassing. And the new subject of a couple of dirty lucid dreams.

But I have no intention of telling him what we did. Nothing good comes from telling your best friend he’s the worst guy you’ve ever slept with.

Which makes the tequila on my birthday a very, very bad idea…

A Top Read in Romantic Comedy

Oh my goodness, this has to be one of my favorite romantic comedies of 2018!!!!

As Hart writes in her synopsis, “Tequila + Your Best Friend + Your Bedroom= Um. Whoopsie?”

That is exactly what happened one drunken night between Aspen and Luke. It should be easy to forget, especially since it wasn’t any good. Yet, they can’t even though they both are acting like neither one remembers it. Instead of putting it behind them, it seems to open up feelings they never thought they would have for one another. What ensues is a funny, heartwarming, and sexy read!

Hart always creates these larger than life and quirky characters, and the ones in this book are just as good! Oh my God, Luke’s family deserve an entire series written about them, especially his Abuelita!!! I want to be her when I grow up!

One of the things I loved most about these two is the friendship they have shared all these years. They really are an extension of one another and complete one another. They were both down to earth and so funny! Their banter is the centerpiece of the book and their relationship, and I loved that it was told from each of their POVs. I fell in love with both of them….I mean head over heels. I loved each awkward, sweet, silly, and sexy moment they shared!!!!

I can always count on Emma Hart to give me a sexy yet sweet story with great characters and a ton of laughs. Tequila Tequila was no different!!! She gave me all the things I love about her, and it’s all those things that make her one of my very favorite writers!!!! If you haven’t discovered the force that is Emma Hart, what are you waiting for!!!!!

TEQUILA-teaser2-live.jpg

Excerpt:

Have you ever walked into a store and had to ask where the lady section is?”

I paused, my grip on the fridge door firm, and turned to him. I simply blinked. I wasn’t going to justify that with an answer.

“It took three people before a poor woman at the customer service desk took pity on me and walked me to the tampon aisle,” he went on, oblivious to my death stare. “She hovered over me for a second and I started fucking sweating, Aspen. Sweating.”

I bit my lip and moved the ingredients for his sandwich over to the board on the island.

“I almost dropped my phone trying to find the photo you sent me, and when I finally brought it up, I was so fucking confused I stood there like a lame damn duck for five minutes before she came back to help me like she knew I was a total idiot.”

Was it wrong that I was way more amused about this than anything else? A part of me told me I should feel bad, but…

“Did you know there are tons of those things? The boxes are all different. There are different brands. Different sizes. Different… absorbency levels.” He shuddered, his wide, muscled shoulders shaking with his cringey thought. “For flows and stuff.”

“I shop there regularly. I am aware.”

“Not that fucking regularly if you sent me to buy them,” he muttered. “Anyway, the nice lady who was trying her best not to laugh at the idiot in the sanitary products aisle asked me who I was buying them for. My mom, my sister, my girlfriend…”

I chopped the lettuce.

“When I told her it was for my best friend, she looked at me funny for a minute before nodding. Then, she dragged me over to the aisle with the candy and told me that Twizzlers went well with tampons. I was so confused I didn’t question her, so here.” He lifted a small bag from the stool next to him and tossed it in my direction. “You’re the proud owner of eight packets of Twizzlers.”

“Oooh, Twizzlers!” I dropped the knife and dove into the bag, pulling out all the long, red packets. “This is like heaven!”

“Dude.” Luke leaned forward and held his hands out. “My sandwich?”

“Geez, who’s on their period? You or me?” I put the candy down and went back to making his sandwich. “You should have saved the Twizzlers until after you got your food.”

“Rookie mistake.” He shook his head. “Please don’t ever ask me to buy you tampons again. I’m not sure my ego or reputation can take it.”

“Your reputation got shot to shit on your twenty-first when you mooned the mayor in the town square,” I reminded him.

“And I haven’t mooned anyone since,” he replied. “My pants now stay firmly on when I drink.”

Book Blurb:

Love is weakness.

Which is why Annabelle Mills vowed a long time ago to never let it destruct her. A former pageant queen with a bite equally as lethal as her bark, she’s interning at her dream job on the set of the highest-rated home design show on television. Everything in Annabelle’s life, though it may be cold and isolated, is going exactly as she always planned.

Until her ex-high school sweetheart moves to town. The same boy that she cheated on, once upon a time, essentially breaking both of their hearts. But no one knows the full story, and being vulnerable enough to open up about it is not on Annabelle’s checklist.

Hate is fuel.

The kind that courses through Boone Graham’s veins and allows him to shut out everyone around him. As the hottest rookie on Austin’s professional baseball team, he should be spending his days hitting homeruns and signing jerseys. Except he’s seen dreams ripped right out from under those closest to him, leaving them with nothing.

Without a college degree, he’ll never take the risk of pursuing his real dream. But when he runs into the girl who took a mallet to his heart and stopped it beating, attending the same university might just be the biggest challenge he’s faced yet.

As the semester unfolds, the line between love and hate is blurred. And with the amount of baggage stacked between them, together is the last thing they want to be.

That’s the thing about hearts, though. They develop plans all on their own.

Christie’s Review

5 STARS

Buckle up for this enemies-to-lovers/second chance romance!!!!

The synopsis begins with “Love is weakness.” The two characters, Annabelle and Boone, live their lives by that mantra. Annabelle strictly lives by that rule because of her past and her abandonment issues. Boone feels that way because of Annabelle. The two were somewhat involved in high school and ended up breaking each other’s hearts, although she was the one who cheated on him. You might think their story ends there, but that turns out to be just the beginning for these two. Fate has brought them back into each other’s worlds, but it’s up to them to make it work…it will definitely be a lot of work with the baggage these two are carrying.

The romance wasn’t instant as you can imagine. They have a lot of distrust and dare I say, hatred, for one another. Underneath all of that are still a lot of unresolved feelings for one another. I’m so glad that Aaron didn’t rush this. There is a good bit of drama, but that is what makes the story so realistic.

I was team Boone from the very beginning. He certainly didn’t have the best of childhoods, but it made him determined! He isn’t your normal athlete. He really is down-to-earth, and he has made his mind up not to repeat his father’s mistakes. He is also very vulnerable where Annabelle is concerned. I just hoped she wouldn’t completely break him this time.

Ah, now I get to Annabelle. I have to say I was not a fan of this girl AT ALL! She appeared to be self-absorbed, rude, and completely not worth Boone’s time. I don’t think I have ever had such strong feelings for a character as I had for her in the beginning. I wasn’t sure how this was going to affect how I felt about the book. However, I shouldn’t have ever doubted Carrie Aarons. I completely misjudged Annabelle. As more of her character was revealed, I began to see exactly why she was the person she was. She completely closed herself off to anyone else because the person who was supposed to love and protect her abandoned her. She made up her mind to never open her heart to anyone. My heart hurt for her, and her strength really amazed me. Aarons really created one of the most memorable characters in Annabelle. It is the mark of a gifted writer when he or she can completely change how you feel about a character!

I have been a fan of Aarons for quite a while now. She has this amazing ability to write different kinds of romance, and they are all fantastic!!! She creates a great story with each one, with unforgettable characters, and this book was no different. Her writing always makes me come back for more!!!!

EXCERPT:

Boone

I only have an hour in between my workout and the film session that the hitting coaches want us to attend.

My entire schedule since moving to Austin has been busy as hell and completely out of whack. Between getting my class schedule figured out, sprinting across campus to get to the buildings, dealing with my moving company, figuring out where to park my car in front of my building, practicing with the Triple-A affiliate team I was drafted to and everything in between … I’m fucking wiped.

I’ve been scouted for the major leagues since my sophomore year of high school, so I thought I’d been semi-prepared for what was to come, but my mind feels like it has been put in a blender for the last two weeks. I had so not been prepared. It was as if I was hobbling around in the dark in my new reality, trying to grasp at things before they moved on me.

I needed to get it the fuck together. I am a professional now and having a career as a professional baseball player would only get harder from here.

From the few times I’d visited Austin for tournaments or the odd family trip, I remember we’d gone to Big Cheese’s Grill. They boasted the best burgers in town, and it was close enough to campus that the place was always packed with students and professors alike.

I open the door to the restaurant while glancing at my iWatch to check the calories versus fat burned during my workout.

And I slam right into a body.

I bounce back, shocked at the person who just rammed into me. I fumble to hold on to them, to keep our gravity from sending both of us flying. I fail, and the body falls backward, the door slamming into my back. I absorb that blow and keep upright, thank God, or I would have been sprawled flat on top of whoever just plowed into me.

“Seriously?! Watch where you’re going!” An angry, high-pitched tone fills my ears.

My head is down, trying to collect its scrambled thoughts, as I reach for whoever I just knocked to the ground. “I’m so sorry, I didn’t realize you were coming out—”

The air and words leave me as I pull her up. Her hand is still in mine as we stand face-to-face, my surprise mirrored back at me. Those lips, the lashes, the eyes a rich, deep, soul-searching brown. The freckles across the bridge of her nose that make her look more innocent than she actually is.

A current of tension radiates back and forth between our interlocked hands, and I can smell the glass of wine she must have just drunk on her breath. It’s sweet with a bite of alcohol, and my mouth waters for a drink. I haven’t thirsted for alcohol in five years, yet in one chance meeting, Annabelle has me reaching for a bottle. She’s poison to me, makes me want to do crazy things. I drop her hand as the thought crosses my mind, as if she’s burned me.

“You should really watch where you’re going. Or did you knock me down on purpose?” Annabelle sniffs.

I scoff, “Right, I often go around pushing women to the ground on purpose. I see the cold hard ice hasn’t melted off your personality, Annabelle.”

And a woman she is. So much more grown up than I remembered her. She’d always been beautiful but gone was the gangliness of teenage years. This is a woman who stands in front of me, curves abound and an unseen knowledge of the world to match. I couldn’t help but get that jab in there.

“And I see you’re just as focused on yourself as ever. You never did care what anyone else was doing, did you, Boone?” She folds her arms over her chest and my eyes stray to her boobs in a sizzle of heat between us.

We’re like a bunch of children fighting like cats and dogs out in the street. How can she still pull out every insecure and immature trait within me? My brain is moving seconds slower than it usually does, and I know I’m standing here staring too long. Even though I hate Annabelle Mills, I can’t help but memorize every detail about her for the first time I’ve seen her in about five years.

“Move.” Annabelle pushes past me, not using any manners, and starts to stalk down the sidewalk.

Talk about rude. She’d always been aggressive, harsh, and just a little bit more high-maintenance than any of the other girls. It’s what had drawn me to her. And then seeing those glimpses of vulnerability, that’s what had made me stay. It was addicting feeling like you were the only one who got to see the nice side of the mean girl.

I should walk into the restaurant. I should pick up my to-go order and drive back to my apartment where I’ll eat a quick lunch and change and go to the practice facility.

But a flash of Annabelle in the bar the other night dances through my head. And her callous words just now piss me off even more.

She always did have the perfect way of getting under my skin and driving me wild. When I’m around her, I forget who I am. I turn into some raging bull, with a fuse shorter than the bombs Itchy and Scratchy use on each other.

The stupidest thing I could do right now? Stomp after her, yelling, in the middle of a crowded downtown street.

So that’s exactly what I do.

“You really haven’t changed a bit!” Oh, fuck. What am I doing?

Annabelle rolls around, her eyes sparking with rage. “Nope, still the same cold, heartless bitch you dumped.”

“Yeah, like I said, I can see that.” Lord, my mama would be so disappointed in me agreeing with a woman that she was a bitch.

“Well, no one said you had to be around it. You’re the one who moved to my city. You’re welcome to leave.” She waves around like I should just get out of here.

I fist my hands in my hair. Christ, she’s so aggravating. “No can do, I’m getting paid to be here.”

She rolls her eyes. “Like I’m not? Have you watched TV lately? Or did you take one too many fly balls to the head? I know there weren’t a lot of brain cells in there to start.”

Fuck her. Now it’s time to really piss her off, get under her skin like she’s under mine. “Oh, you mean that show you play house on or whatever? They’ll get bored of you when the next eye-candy pageant queen comes along.”

I swear Annabelle could spit nails at me if she willed it right now. “You’re an asshole, Boone Graham. You’ve only ever cared about yourself and where you want to be. It was silly of me to think you’d ever think of someone but yourself.”

I drop the anvil. “Says the girl who cheated on me. Who lost her virginity to another guy.”

People around us are starting to stare, to really look at the two people arguing openly on the street. It’s not a good idea for me to stick around any longer; people know who I am on a national level and being seen fighting with a girl, who someone will inevitably social media stalk and find out is my ex, is not good publicity.

Except I can’t stop staring into Annabelle’s eyes. They are furious, yes, but there is something more there. I’ve really … hurt her. I’m shocked, to be honest. I didn’t think I could remotely hurt this girl, who self-identifies as a cold, heartless bitch.

But there it is. The raw flash, miss-it-if-you-blink second of real pain that flickers through those mocha pools. I open my mouth to say something, to take it back, maybe apologize, but she speaks first.

“You have no idea.”

Her tone pulls at my heartstrings, it’s low and somber. And then she melts into the crowd, giving no explanation of what I have no idea about.

Buried by Brenda Rothert

Book Blurb:

Do you believe in fate?

I didn’t. I’d worked since childhood to become an NFL starting quarterback. All the blood, sweat, and tears were about to pay off with my name in the record books. Setting an NFL record was going to be the crowning achievement of my career. Hell, of my life.

But then fate, the cagey bitch, threw me a curveball I never saw coming. I ended up trapped in a doomsday bunker with four strangers, my chances at that record slipping away as days turned into months.

I never would’ve given Erin a second look. She was gorgeous, sure, but not my type. I liked women who were strong. Fearless. Resilient. Not to mention that she hated me.

But I was so wrong about her. And in that bunker, I fell in crazy, stupid love.

I thought a record would be my greatest triumph. But now, all I want is a shot with Erin. I’ve faced down massive linebackers intent on ending me. For her, I’ll go toe-to-toe with fate.

A Must Read of 2018

Wow!!! This is a must read of 2018!!!! It’s really unlike anything you will read this year!!!! It’s got romance, heat, yet it’s a bit of a mystery and thriller/adventure too!!!!

Erin was just making a grocery delivery when the very unexpected happened, and life as she knew it completely changed!!!! She would confront some of her darkest fears and maybe possibly find love with a person she never expected.

Derek is an NFL quarterback who has worked for many years to become the success he has, and he still has a lot to prove to himself. Destiny, fate whatever you want to call it, threw a wrench in those plans. A day that was supposed to be normal turned into anything but, when he finds himself trapped in his doomsday bunker with his assistant and three strangers. As the days turn to weeks, he finds himself growing closer to the beautiful Erin.

As I wrote earlier, this is a book unlike you have ever read before. The characters that Rothert created were out of this world. Derek and Erin are so different, yet they are so alike. If these two passed each other on the street, I don’t think they would have ever given each other a second glance much less fall for each other. But, they do, and it was a thing beautiful to watch. In addition, Rothert created a great cast of secondary characters that made the story flow flawlessly.

The only other thing I can say to you is GO DOWNLOAD this book TODAY!!!!

Excerpt:

I sigh softly, willing my heart to stop jackhammering in my chest, and walk over to the large, opened steel door in the ground.

Kenna white knuckles the black steel ladder that leads straight down, scrambling to get her heels situated. I wonder again why she’s wearing a business suit and heels out here.

“Do you work here?” I ask her.

She gives me a sharp look. “I’m Derek’s personal assistant.”

“Oh, got it. And he must be the football player who owns the place?”

Kenna gawks at me in disbelief. “You don’t know who Derek Heaton is?”

I shrug. “Isn’t he a football player?”

“He’s the best quarterback in the league. Also the highest paid.”

“Huh. Well, good for him,” I say dismissively.

Kenna shrieks as one of her feet slips on the metal ladder.

“You okay?” I ask her.

“I’m fine.”

I peer down into the dark hole, trying to think about anything other than going down there. Even after years of therapy, the panic is so strong I want to run away.

Just make it about the groceries, I tell myself. Think about getting the delivery where it needs to go as quickly as possible. You can do this.

I take a deep breath and then follow Kenna down the ladder. I start sweating immediately as my self-preservation instincts kick in. But I ignore it, descending the ladder to a small landing and then taking a staircase the rest of the way down.

For a moment, my fear is forgotten. The bunker is nothing like I was expecting. It’s open and expansive, the kitchen done with stainless appliances and warm wood cabinets. The floors are also wood, and there’s a large leather sectional in a living area.

“This way,” Kenna says, motioning impatiently from in front of a doorway.

I tear myself away from looking at the rich, slightly rustic décor and join her in a large white room. Fluorescent lights glow overhead, illuminating walls lined with shelves. About half the shelves are filled with supplies ranging from toilet paper to giant containers of tapioca pudding.

“Right here,” Kenna says, grabbing a clipboard and glancing down at it.

She stands in front of an empty section of shelves. I wait a couple seconds as she reads something on her list, but then I can’t take it anymore. I refuse to be down here for one minute longer than I have to.

“I’ll go get my first load,” I say, turning.

“I need it shelved in groups,” she says as I depart the room. “Keep all the peanut butter together, all the trail mix together, and so on. And make sure you fill the entire shelf all the way to the back.”

“Okay,” I call over my shoulder.

I hear male voices from somewhere in the bunker, but I ignore them, practically sprinting to the stairs out of this death trap hole in the ground.

When I get to the truck, I stuff my backpack with as much of the supplies it back hold, then grab another box to carry in my arms. Surveying the flatbed load, I realize it’s going to take at least twenty trips to get all this into the supply room.

Just great. I have to make myself go down that ladder over and over again.

As I reach the end of the stairs, I see three men in the living room area of the bunker. One is kneeling by the floor, looking at something. The other two are talking.

One of the two looks pretty young, maybe college-aged. His skin is deeply tanned and his hair is hidden beneath a baseball hat. The other one looks like a young Russell Crowe, very tall and all muscles and chiseled jaw line. He’s wearing shorts and a plain gray t-shirt.

He has to be the football player. He’s got arrogant pro athlete written all over him, from his biceps straining the sleeves of his shirt to his perfect smile.

A Top Read of 2018

An All-Time Favorite Read

Tragic is another winner from Devney Perry, and she proves tragedy can lead to magic!

This is Kaine and Piper’s story. It involves pain and suffering so be prepared to shed some tears. As usual, Perry will make it up to you!!!! Kaine has spent the past years in solitude dealing with a tragic loss that many people would never recover from. He chooses to deal with his pain by himself that is, until a beautiful stranger moves next door completely taking away his solitude.

Piper moves to the town of Lark Cove, leaving behind a bitter divorce. She is hoping to find some peace and maybe a chance for a no-strings affair to alleviate the pain after her ex-husband’s betrayal. She loves her new home…her new neighbor, Kaine, not so much! Granted, he is easy on the eyes, but his attitude stinks. Yet, she doesn’t let his anger towards her affect her. There is no mistake, there is a mutual annoyance and frustration between the two of them, but there is also a massive undercurrent of lust. One fateful day, these two cross the line into lust, and things are never the same again!

The ingredients of a great story for me need to consist of three things: a good story, great characters, and a great setting. Perry always excels at this! For instance, she had my heart in knots from the prologue. From there, the story fell into place, and I was hooked.

She also manages to create characters that I always feel a connection with, and this book was no different. My heart was Kaine’s from the very beginning. I knew he was going to be a complicated and complex character. I might not always be happy with him, and he might make me mad…yet he had a piece of my heart. With Piper’s patience and love, he became the person he was always meant to be.

Piper was like a ray of sunshine in Kaine’s dark storm. Don’t get me wrong, she wasn’t without her flaws either. She had a hard time trusting men, and I couldn’t blame her. Kaine wasn’t the best person to trust your heart to, but Piper was patient with him. Like Kaine, she wasn’t the same person she was in the beginning either…she was much better.

Perry created such a unique, charming town in Lark Cove. The setting is beautiful, and she writes with such detail that I feel like I’m there myself. Each time I return, she shows me something else beautiful and special about it.

As I wrote earlier, Devney Perry manages to write a novel that pulls at my heartstring. To me, she is much more than a just a writer, but she is an immensely talented storyteller. That is always what makes me come back for anything she writes!!!!

I love reading anthologies because I get to read my favorite writers, and I get to discover new ones. However, I also hate reviewing them sometimes because I can’t highlight each and every story, but please know that you can’t go wrong with this book. It’s filled with talented writers, and it’s about hockey players…you definitely can’t go wrong there!!!

The book is full of sweet and spicy romance, plus the all-encompassing love of family and what makes a family! Books like this one are my favorite to read during the holiday season. Homicide in Herne Hill

Homicide in Herne Hill (The London Murder Mysteries #4)

by Alice Castle

Synopsis

Beth Haldane, SE21’s premier – and only – single mum amateur sleuth, is really pleased to find a new friend at the school gates, in the shape of irrepressibly bouncy Nina. As well as a way with words, Nina has a puzzle she wants Beth to solve, centred on the solicitor’s office where Nina works in Herne Hill.

But as the mystery thickens, threatening to drag in not just Nina and her boss, but the yummy mummies of Dulwich, too, Beth is about to find out just how far some people will go to keep up appearances.

Join Beth in this fourth instalment in the London Murder Mystery series for her toughest case yet.

Christie’s Review

5 STARS

The London Murder Series by Alice Castle is quickly becoming one of my favorite series in the genre!

Beth has had a hard time recently with the events that took place in book 3, no spoilers here!!! That changes when she meets Nina, who sits next to her at a school function. She notices right away that she isn’t part of the “yummy mummy” group. She discovers that she has never enjoyed a Nativity as much as she has this one, with Nina giving her plenty of laughs. Beth thinks she could really be friends with Nina.

Beth can’t resist a good conundrum, so she listens to Nina’s concern about her job in the solicitor’s office. She can’t really put her finger on it, but something seems off in the office. Little does either woman realize how very “off” the business really is. Beth finds herself right in the middle of another mystery, and is there any connection with the recent spell of pet’s dying from poisoning. This may turn out to be the most dangerous and twisted mystery Beth has yet faced!

I loved the mystery, and I loved catching up with Beth and some of my other favorite characters. Castle does give us a bit more of Beth’s romance. Just like the other secondary characters, I’m coming to love Nina. She is just as fun and quirky as the others!!!!

Castle has mastered the art of writing a clever, witty mystery. She knows how to keep the storyline moving with great surprises, and she also fills the pages with great satire that brings plenty of laughs. Each book she writes gets even better!!!!

Murder Served Cold

Murder Served Cold

by Paula Williams

Synopsis

A quiet English village where nothing ever happens.   Until…..

After her boyfriend runs out on her with the contents of their joint bank account, Kat Latcham has no choice but to return to the tiny Somerset village of Much Winchmoor where she grew up.  A place, she reckons, that is not so much sleepy as comatose and she longs for something to happen to lessen the boredom of living with her parents.

But when she and her childhood friend, Will Manning, discover a body and Will’s father, John, is arrested for the murder, Kat suddenly realises that she should have heeded the saying “Be careful what you wish for”.

Much Winchmoor is a hotbed of gossip and everyone is convinced John Manning is guilty.  Only Kat and Will believe he’s innocent. When there’s a second murder Kat is sure she knows the identity of the murderer – and set out to prove it.  But in doing so she almost becomes the murderer’s third victim.

Readers of Sue Grafton might enjoy the Much Winchmoor series of cosy murder mysteries spiked with humour and sprinkled with romance.

Christie’s Review

5 STARS

Murder Served Cold is the first book in a series that promises to be fantastic!!!!

Kat has had to return home to her small village of Much Winchmoor after leaving her cheating ex, losing her job, and her home. This wasn’t something she wanted to do, but it was a necessity. She is hoping she won’t be here for long. The town is full of gossips, and Kat will also discover it’s a town full of secrets and a murder or two. She and her childhood friend, Will, discover a body. Not long after, his father is arrested for murder. Kat and Will know he didn’t do it, and they will do whatever it takes to prove his innocence.

Williams took her time in giving her readers the backstory building up to the mystery. In doing so, she created a list of suspects that kept me guessing who the murderer was. While this is a cozy mystery, Williams also did a great job of developing the character of Kat. I’m really going to love getting to know her more throughout the series. She also wrote with great detail and really depicted a glimpse of what it’s like to live in a small town where people know way too much about each other.

I’m so happy when I find a new series and a new author that I fall in love with, and I have found that in this series and in author, Paula Williams. Her writing is a lot like one of my very favorite mystery authors, Sue Grafton, but she also has a flair all of her own. I’m really looking forward to more of this series!!!!

Author Bio

Paula Williams is living her dream.  She has written all her life – her earliest efforts involved blackmailing her unfortunate younger brothers into appearing in her plays and pageants. But it is only in recent years, when she turned her attention to writing short stories and serials for women’s magazines that she discovered, to her surprise, that people with better judgement than her brothers actually liked what she wrote and were prepared to pay her for it.

Now, she writes every day in a lovely, book-lined study in her home in Somerset, where she lives with her husband and a handsome but not always obedient rescue Dalmatian called Duke.  She still writes for magazines but also now writes novels. A member of both the Romantic Novelists’ Association and the Crime Writers’ Association, her novels often feature a murder or two, and are always sprinkled with humour and spiced with a touch of romance.

She also writes a monthly column, Ideas Store, for the writers’ magazine, Writers’ Forum and has a blog at paulawilliamswriter.wordpress.com.  Her facebook author page is https://www.facebook.com/paula.williams.author . And she tweets at @paulawilliams44.

Not only that, but when she’s not writing, she’s either tutoring, leading writing workshops or giving talks on writing at writing festivals and conferences and to organised groups.  She’s appeared several times on local radio – in fact, she’ll talk about writing to anyone who’ll stand still long enough to listen.

But, as with the best of dreams, she worries that one day she’s going to wake up and find she still has to bully her brothers into reading ‘the play what she wrote’.
