One Little Lie by Whitney Barbetti
Genre: New Adult

Adam Oliver hated me. Loathed my very existence. He had every right to, but that didn’t make my life any easier the afternoon I had to rescue him on the side of the road.
But worse than rescuing a guy who hated me to his core was the lie I told my parents.
Because I’d just told them that my long-term boyfriend was finally back in town.
My long-term boyfriend who didn’t actually exist.
The one named Adam Oliver—the guy I’d crushed on all through high school.
So the real Adam had no idea that he and I were engaged in a years-long, committed, serious relationship.
And, somehow, some way, I needed to convince him to play along with my one little lie.
4 STARSThis is my first read by this author and I really liked it. While I have heard lots about her over the past few years, this blurb finally made me take the leap. The story starts off a little slow for me but once the story got going, I was hooked.Hollis has had a crush on Adam for a long time even though he has never seemed to like her and now that high school is nearly over, she tries to make a connection with him at a party. She is finally breaking through the wall between them when an incident happens and Adam is back to hating Hollis. A few years later, Hollis is feeling pressure from her parents to get serious with someone and start looking towards marriage. One little lie later, Hollis needs help from Adam who is back in town after leaving right after graduation. She is able to convince him to help her but how much is that one little lie going to cost her? Will she ever be able to make Adam see she is not the enemy he believes her to be?I really liked both characters and could see how the misunderstandings between them could happen. However, I was at times frustrated with Adam’s expectations of Hollis. I liked the ending and will definitely continue with this series with other characters to hopefully revisit Adam and Hollis to see what the future holds for them. Overall a great read and I look forward to reading more from this author!
