Kiss to Conquer (Blairwood University #1)

by Anna B. Doe

About the Book:

The past tore them apart.

After a terrible accident took everything from Callie Stewart, enrolling at Blairwood University is supposed to be a chance at a new beginning.

Living his best life, Hayden Watson, star wide receiver for the Blairwood Ravens, is heading straight for the NFL draft and nothing is going to stand in his way.

The present brings them together.

Their paths were never supposed to cross, but when they do, all those old demons and feelings come rushing back. Hayden thinks he knows all about Callie’s life before Blairwood and he’s not ready to let go of the past, much less forgive her for what she has done three years ago.

One thing’s for sure… it’s going to take more than a kiss to conquer their broken past.

Christie’s Review

5 STARS

Anna B. Doe has crafted a beautiful, emotional read with Kiss to Conquer. I was mesmerized from the very first pages!

Callie and Hayden knew each other back in high school, but the past tore them apart before they really ever had a chance to begin anything. It ended with Callie having major regrets and Hayden hating the girl who once held his heart.

Fast forward years later, and these two will meet again. As you can imagine, it isn’t something either expected or even want. When old feelings emerge, things get even more complicated.

Callie has come to Blairwood University hoping to begin her life again after she was involved in a devastating accident that took everything she held dear away. She is nothing like the girl Hayden knew, not by a long shot. Loss changed her in ways he could never imagine. To be fair to him, she wasn’t the most likeable person in high school as I saw in the flashbacks to their teen years. She was pretty self-centered, selfish, and cared about the trivial things in life…popularity. I like her much better now.

Hayden has changed as well. It was almost like they switched personalities in a sense. He is now the most popular person on campus, and she shuns all attention. Although, Hayden wasn’t as self-centered as Callie was. Much of Hayden’s attitude is because of his painful past. I could definitely understand his dislike for Callie. Because of his good heart, he is able to forgive her for her past mistakes.

Callie doesn’t believe she deserves a good life. She can’t seem to forgive herself for her past. With Hayden back in her life, she thinks happiness might just be a possibility.

“But over time I accepted my destiny. Accepted the life I was forced to live without people I loved the most in it. But  I never started to dream again. Until now. Hayden…he makes me want to dream again. He makes me want to have a different future. Believe I can actually deserve it.”

Both Callie and Hendrix deserve all the happiness in the world, but it will NOT be easy. It seems life just keeps throwing them curveballs. They will have to fight for their HEA, and it will take both of them to do it!!!

This is such a beautiful, emotional romance with some twists. Through this couple, Doe showed her readers that the past doesn’t have to define you.  I couldn’t help falling in love with Hendrix and Callie!!!!

New Review: Like You Hurt (Devilbend Dynasty #2) by Kaydence Snow

🔥🔥 HOT NEW RELEASE 🔥🔥

Like You Hurt by Kaydence Snow is LIVE and FREE with Kindle Unlimited!

Complex, angst-filled, unique, and HOT chemistry! Are you ready for Donna’s story?!

Donna

What kind of idiot gets on my bad side on his first day at my school? Hendrix Hawthorn is arrogant, cocky, infuriatingly attractive and clearly doesn’t realise I can make his life hell.

Which is exactly what I intend to do… until he shows up in the one place no one knows I go to – the one place that makes me feel alive. Now my reputation is in his hands, but I’ll be damned if I go down without a fight.

Hendrix

What kind of spoiled brat thinks I’ll just fall at her feet like the rest of these jerks? Donna Mead is a stone-cold bitch and I don’t want anything to do with her or her friends.

It’s bad enough I have to finish senior year at Fulton Academy – exactly the kind of place where I made the single biggest mistake of my life. I just want to keep my head down, get decent grades… until she shows up where she doesn’t belong. Now I can’t seem to stop myself from trying to prevent Donna from ruining her life like I did.

Christie’s Review

5 STARS

Like You Hurt is another winner from Kaydence Snow!

I was really looking forward to reading Donna’s story, and it exceeded all my expectations!!! Donna is a very complex personality…Snow gave her multiple layers that she peeled back with each chapter. In the first book, Like You Care, Donna appeared to be in control and nothing seemed to bother her. Boy, was I in for a shock. Donna does like being in control, and people depend on her, yet she doesn’t have anyone to hold her up when she needs someone to lean on…that is until Hendrix shows up.

Like Donna, Hendrix was quite the complex character too. He appears to be something he isn’t. Donna finds him arrogant and cocky, especially when he tells her he wants nothing to do with her or her little clique. However, there is so much people don’t know about him. He is carrying a huge burden of guilt with him, and he just wants to get through his senior year and move on. Too bad, Donna has gotten under his skin. He can’t seem to get the girl he should stay away from out of his mind.

Like in the first book, Snow chose the perfect title. Hendrix and Donna are people who hurt, but for very different reasons. They seem to bring out both the worst and the best in each other. It just depends on what day of the week it is. There is a tremendous amount of push and pull with these two, but there has to be for the romance to be realistic for this couple. They are both extremely strong and independent characters. Yet, there are vulnerable sides to each other who find it hard to trust others with their emotions.

Not only was this a steamy romance. The chemistry between them was HOT!!! As with the first book, there is some suspense as well that made the book even more difficult to put down.

This series just keeps getting better. Snow does a great job of drawing her readers in with her unique storylines and characters. Looking forward to more!!!!

5 STARS

Oh my gosh!!!! This is an AMAZING read!!!! It is in my top 10 of 2020!!! This is a book you need to read NOW!!!

This book has it all…romance, angst, steam, and mystery. All these elements come together seamlessly to make a book that you will not be able to put down. I was intrigued when I read the synopsis, but it doesn’t even scratch the surface of what occurs between the pages.

Breeze, Violet, and Chase have been friends since childhood. Breeze grew up with loving parents. Twins, Violet and Chase, spent so much time at Breeze’s home because their parents are never around. Breeze lives in a charming but small home. Violet and Chase live in a mansion. Violet and Chase are always the center of attention, and Breeze tries to blend into the background. They shouldn’t even run in the same social circles, but their friendship works.

Life is normal until it isn’t. In fact, their lives will never be the same again with news of Violet’s murder. Breeze and Chase make a promise to one another to find her killer. Chase wants to start with Kai, Violet’s boyfriend. They were definitely not the perfect couple. What Breeze didn’t expect was the complicated feelings she has for both Chase and Kai.

Coralee June and Carrie Gray did a tremendous job on this book. It isn’t just a forbidden romance, but it’s about grief and survivor’s guilt. They take us through all the emotions that entails…from how we can make the person we lost a saint and then the feelings we have when we realize they weren’t…they were just human beings…not perfect but flawed.

I spent most of the night reading this…looking up and realizing how late it really was. But, it was worth every minute of sleep I lost!!!! I cannot wait until the next book!!!!

I have always loved to read. In kindergarten, I was the weird kid sitting in the reading nook by myself instead of trying to get more snacks. I’m excited to be putting my own voice on the page and watching a story I helped create come to life. I still love to read, but I also really like snacks.

I grew up in Chicago but recently moved back to the Dallas area where I live with my husband and son.

I have my Bachelor of Science in Biology. I spent a year researching chimpanzees and gorillas while I was in Chicago and then I spent another two months on a chimpanzee sanctuary trying to convince headstrong chimps to cooperate. Pro tip – grapes are a pretty hot bargaining tool. They work wonders with my toddler too.

Sweet Cheeks by K. Bromberg

It all started with an invitation to my ex-fiance’s wedding.

I should have ignored it. Thrown it away. Set it afire. But I didn’t. I replied…With a plus one. Now I have to find a date. Enter Hayes Whitley, mega-movie star who’s captured the hearts of millions, my first love, and my first broken heart. I should have steered clear when he offered to take me to my ex’s wedding. But I didn’t.

Random Acts of Trust by Julia Kent

I’m not the kind of person who gets her cell phone caught in places that require an OBGYN and a trip to the ER.

I’m also not the kind of person who spends all her time thinking about Sam Hinton, the boy I loved in high school and who disappeared with my heart. But, apparently, I need to rethink who I am. Second chances aren’t supposed to make scars disappear and hearts mend. But, apparently, they can, if you trust enough.

Iron Crowne by C.D Reiss

Byron Crowne is a heartless billionaire businessman. He’s everything I detest, but he’s awakened desires I didn’t know I had. I want to beat him in court, but when he touches me, I need him to win my body and mark it as his. Now I might be pregnant, and there’s no way he can ever prove to me he’s worthy to be a father, no matter how hard he tries.

V-Card by Lauren Blakely and Lili Valente

When you think about how easy it is to lose keys, sunglasses and your dignity on social media, you figure it’d be a cinch to ditch my V-card. You’d be wrong. Good thing I know just the man for the deflowering job – my brother’s business partner and best friend who, I’m told, is oh-so-skilled in the sack. He has seven nights to teach me everything he knows – no strings. There’s no reason this has to get complicated, right?

About K. Bromberg

K.Bromberg

New York Times Bestselling author K. Bromberg writes contemporary novels that contain a mixture of sweet, emotional, a whole lot of sexy, and a little bit of real. She likes to write strong heroines, and damaged heroes who we love to hate and hate to love.

A mom of three, she plots her novels in between school runs and soccer practices, more often than not with her laptop in tow.

Since publishing her first book in 2013, Kristy has sold over one million copies of her books across sixteen different countries and has landed on the New York Times, USA Today, and Wall Street Journal Bestsellers lists over twenty-five times. Her Driven trilogy (Driven, Fueled, and Crashed) is currently being adapted for film by Passionflix with the first movie slated to release in the summer of 2018.

She is currently working on her Everyday Heroes trilogy. This series consists of three complete standalone novels—Cuffed, Combust, and Cockpit (late spring 2018)—and is about three brothers who are emergency responders, the jobs that call to them, and the women who challenge them.

About CD Reiss

_21A6258_pp-fb
CD Reiss is a New York Times bestseller. She still has to chop wood and carry water, which was buried in the fine print. Her lawyer is working it out with God but in the meantime, if you call and she doesn’t pick up she’s at the well hauling buckets.

Born in New York City, she moved to Hollywood, California to get her master’s degree in screenwriting from USC. In case you want to know, that went nowhere but it did give her a big enough ego to write novels.

She’s frequently referred to as the Shakespeare of Smut which is flattering but hasn’t ever gotten her out of chopping that cord of wood.

If you meet her in person, you should call her Christine.

A Village Murder (The Ham-Hill Murder Mysteries Book 1) by Frances Evesham Blog Tour with Review

a-village-murder

About the Book:

An English village can be deadly, when your past catches up with you…

In the beautiful rural Somerset village of Lower Hembrow, crammed full with English eccentrics, something is amiss…

Landscape gardener Imogen Bishop has spent the last thirty years trying to forget one fateful school night but when her estranged husband Greg Bishop is found dead in the grounds of her fathers Georgian hotel, danger threatens to overwhelm her.

Retired police officer Adam Hennessey, hoping for a peaceful life running his traditional Somerset country pub, finds himself drawn into the unfolding drama in the hotel across the road.

Imogen, Adam and Harley the stray dog form an unlikely partnership as they try to untangle a knot of secrets, solve a murder mystery, and bring a killer to justice.

Christie’s Review

4 STARS

A Village Murder is an enjoyable cozy mystery with a great cast of characters! Imogen has just lost her father in an accident when she discovers the body of her estranged husband on the property of her father’s hotel that she has just inherited. Of course, she finds herself as a suspect in her husband’s death which most definitely wasn’t an accident. She enlists the help of Adam Hennessey, a retired police officer who is the owner of the pub across from the hotel. As the two delve into her ex’s life, they find connections to an old accident that happened while she was still in school.

The several different subplots blend seamlessly into the main murder plot. The author didn’t lose the story in the various subplots. Each connected to make a multi-layered and complex mystery that kept me guessing throughout the book. The cast of characters added even more to the story. Imogen really matured through the book, and I really enjoyed the easy friendship she and Adam developed. The little hint of romance between Imogen and Daniel was a nice surprise as well. Can I just say, my favorite character was the sweet Harley, the stray dog that first brought Imogen and Adam together. I just loved him.

The author gave her readers a taste of the characters in this first book, and I can’t wait to see which direction they will go. I highly recommend reading if you like a cozy mystery with a great plot, great characters, and a wonderful scenery. I can’t wait to return to the Somerset village of Lower Hembrow!

New Review: Hard Pass (Trophy Boyfriends #1) by Sara Ney

Release Date: June 16
“Hard Pass.”

That’s what the last girl I slept with said when she got her first sober glimpse of me. She laughed, walked out of my penthouse—and I never saw her again. It doesn’t matter that I’m a rich, professional athlete; what mattered was my face.

Beauty might only be skin deep for some—but I know better.

“Pay Up.”

That’s what the last girl I spoke to said over the phone when I made her an offer she couldn’t refuse. Desperate to sell a set of rare baseball cards, she’s clever and entertaining. I’m instantly smitten, but nowhere ready to reveal myself. Thank god she has no idea who I am—or what I look like.

I’m a professional athlete–how hard can playing the love game be?

Christie’s Review

5 STARS

Oh my gosh!!!! This book right here is why I ADORE Sara Ney!!!!

It had all the elements I have come to love about her….great characters, romance to make you swoon, and Ney’s trademark sense of humor.

I LOVED Noah and Miranda. Noah is a professional baseball player. He is young and already a huge success. Unlike his teammates, he is in it strictly for the game…not the money, women, or the attention. In fact, he hates the attention. He also doesn’t have the best self-esteem because of his past with females. Some weren’t very kind to him. It broke my heart sometimes because he didn’t see how really special he was. Fortunately, Miranda does show him how special he is. She is like a breath of fresh air. Like Noah, she is determined to succeed. I loved that she made him smile and forget about his self-confidence issues. This girl had the best sense of humor EVER!!!!!

Ney knows how to write a romance that gives you butterflies and warms your heart. The way that these two first meet was sweet and entertaining. From their first text messages, I could feel the chemistry between them. As they get to know one another, the chemistry just builds. It was the perfect combination of steam and sweetness.

What makes Ney’s books so good is that her sense of humor comes through in her characters. The banter between Noah and Miranda was hysterical, and Noah’s friend, Wallace, just made the book. The friendship between him and Noah was the icing on the cake!!! I really, really hope he gets a chance to share his story with us.

If you are looking for a quick read that you will finish in no time, you can’t get any better than this one!!!!

Two strangers. One chance meeting. Irresistible heat.

My two-timing ex might have wrecked our relationship, but I was not about to let him ruin my vacation. Sure, what was meant to be a romantic romp through Paris would now consist of dining solo at a table for two in the city of love, but I was determined to have a good time on my own.

Then I met Chris.

He’s a hot megawatt movie star used to the limelight and women lining up for him. And even though I refused to be one of them, I was done in by him—the dark swoony eyes, his unabashed laugh, the cravings he ignited with only a look.

We agreed to give each other two weeks. Then real life would kick in.

But is two weeks enough when it might be love?

It’s a rough world out there, and we all sometimes need a good, romantic beach read, even if we can’t make it to the beach. I’ve spent many lazy days walking the streets of Paris and other gorgeous European cities, and if I’m doing it right, I’m bringing you a dash of romance and a vacay fantasy.

I can’t sit still, so when I’m not hiking, biking or running, I’m playing a very average game of tennis. Background music for writing undoubtedly features some U2, Lizzo, Billy Joel, Pink, Taylor Swift, and Led Zeppelin. Not necessarily in that order. And if I could only eat one food group, it would be cheese. Or wine. Or bread. Are those food groups? Whatever.

Coming Home To Heritage Cove

Coming Home to Heritage Cove

by Helen J. Rolfe

About the Book:

Welcome to Heritage Cove, the little village by the sea brimming with character, community and friendship, and the perfect place to fall in love this summer…

Melissa rushes back to Heritage Cove when Barney, the man who’s been like a father figure to her since she was a little girl, ends up in hospital. After an absence of five years, her return isn’t going to be easy, especially when she bumps into Harvey, the love of her life and the man she’s never been able to forget.

For reasons he couldn’t explain at the time, Harvey changed his mind about going with Melissa to start afresh as they’d planned, and life moved on for the both of them. But with Melissa back in the village and determined to stick around to help Barney, they can’t avoid each other forever. Melissa knows she let so many people down by staying away for so long, but she and Harvey blame each other for what happened and neither of them is willing to admit to being in the wrong.

When Barney insists on cancelling the Wedding Dress Ball, the charity fundraiser he holds every year in the stunning barn on his property, Melissa and Harvey realise they’re going to have to pull together. Otherwise the man they once knew might be gone forever. And when they unearth a secret Barney has never shared with anyone, they go in search of answers to not only ensure the ball runs this summer, but to bring back the Barney they know and love.

Back in the cove after all this time, Melissa gets to see the life she left behind and it’s time to deal with what it was that drove her away in the first place.

Beneath the summer sunshine in Heritage Cove, the sea sparkles, the heat rises and new love, reconciliations and the answers to an old love story could bring changes for everyone.

What a charming, enjoyable read perfect for summer!!!

Melissa had planned on spending a staycation with her pilot fiance, Jay, since the two of them rarely see one another since she herself is a flight attendant. Now, she is rushing back to her home Heritage Cove. The man who has been like a father to her is in hospital, thankfully it isn’t anything serious. She has plans to make sure he is recuperating and returning back to London and her life as soon as she can. However, she hadn’t anticipated the complicated feelings that would arise returning to the place people know her best and the man, Harvey, who was supposed to be “the one.”

I completely fell in love with the characters and the Heritage Cove. Both Melissa and Harvey were fantastic characters. They were complex and were by no means perfect. There was no bad person in their break-up. Harvey, for his own reasons, chose not to go with Melissa to start a new life together. Melissa hasn’t gotten over that. The two are completely stubborn, but they are also older and wiser and begin to maybe understand each other a little more.

Melissa and Harvey team up together to persuade Barney to not cancel the event of the year, The Wedding Dress Ball. As they spend more time together, they begin to remember why they fell in love in the first place. I loved the flashbacks of the memories they shared. Her feelings are especially confusing since she has a fiance back in London, and she has to do some real soul-searching to determine what man truly holds her heart in his hands.

Not only was this a second chance romance, but it was a journey of self-discovery for Melissa. She had to finally confront the complex emotions her parents’ deaths stirred in her. She also got to reconnect to the people who shaped so much of her life.

This was a delightful read, full of charming characters, especially Barney. He seemed to be the heart and soul of the village. He had a gentle spirit and kind heart. I felt like I was a part of the village myself. I’m really looking forward to seeing the characters again in the next book in the series.

The Girl in the Love Song (Lost Boys #1)

by Emma Scott

About the Book

At Santa Cruz Central High School, they called them the misfits, the outcasts, the weirdos. But most of us knew them as the Lost Boys…

The Girl in the Love Song, book one in the Lost Boys, an interconnected coming-of-age series of standalones, from USA Today bestselling author Emma Scott, is live!

Miller Stratton is a survivor. After a harrowing childhood of poverty, he will do anything it takes to find security for himself and his mom. He’s putting all his hopes and dreams in the fragile frame of his guitar and the beauty he creates with its strings and his soulful voice.

Until Violet.

No one expects to meet the love of their life at age thirteen. But the spunky rich girl steals Miller’s heart and refuses to give it back.

Violet McNamara’s life hasn’t been as simple as it looks. Her picture-perfect family is not so perfect after all. Her best friend Miller is her one constant and she is determined not to ruin their friendship with romantic complications.

But the heart wants what it wants. As Miller’s star begins to rise to stratospheric heights, what will it take for Violet to realize that she’s the girl in all of his love songs?

The Girl in the Love Song features two original songs written by Emma herself.

All-Time Favorite Read

Oh my goodness, what a beautiful, emotional love story!!! This is one of the best coming of age novels I have had the pleasure to read.

Miller and Violet were soulmates. That much was evident from the first time the two met on her thirteenth birthday when she saw him outside her window. Although it took them a while to realize they belonged together, it was a wonderful journey to take with them.

“In that instance–the length of a heartbeat–a lifetime passed between us. An understanding that her and I were inevitable. Fated. The boy with diabetes and the girl who was going to be a doctor. The girl with the romantic heart and the boy who wrote love songs.”

Miller and Violet were worlds apart. He was the poor, homeless boy who had dreams to become famous to make a more secure future for himself and his mother. Violet was the rich girl who had dreams of becoming a doctor. Neither suspected the night they met would determine their destinies. A sweet friendship developed between them until they realized the feelings they had for one another ran so much deeper. This was the point of the book that the friction and push and pull between them began as well as complications and misunderstandings. However, they always made their way back to one another.

One thing that made the book so special were the characters themselves. Emma Scott created such complex and unique characters in Miller and Violet. Miller was not the usual hero. Several things made him different. He had such a painful past, and it did color how he looked at relationships…but, he was such a good guy and so sensitive and loyal. Others at school saw him as the homeless boy with no future, but Violet always saw him as so much more.. He never let his diabetes determine who he was either. His loyalty and love to Violet made me love him even more.

Violet was just as strong as Miller. Yes, she came from an entirely different background than him, but her family wasn’t perfect either. Her once loving parents spend so much time now yelling at one another. Miller is her solace and peace. Like Miller, she won’t let anything get in the way of her dreams of becoming a doctor. She is as loyal to Miller as he is to her.

The romance was full of angst and push and pull. However, it didn’t overwhelm the story, and there had to be a degree of angst to make the book as good as it was. For me, that made their love even stronger. I liked that they both were able to give us their own perspectives. One of my favorite things was reading her diary entries…they were so sweet.

I am so glad this is going to be a series. I loved the friendship between the lost boys….Miller, Ronan, and Holden. Each have their secrets, and I can’t wait to hear their stories.

On one last note, Scott touched on so many subjects…bullying, domestic violence, poverty, homelessness, and juvenile diabetes, yet she connected them all so seamlessly. On top of that, the lyrics she created for Miller were incredible. When you read her author’s note in the end, you will know her heart and soul were put into this book making it such an emotional and beautiful read!!!!
