Time Out

About the Book:

‘It’s just a phase,’ they said. ‘These are the happiest years of your life,’ they said…

Mother of one and professional writer Saoirse (pronounced Seersha, not Searcy – thanks a bunch Game of Thrones!) is still adjusting to the demands of motherhood, four years after the birth of her daughter, Anna.

Living in the claustrophobic London suburb of Woodvale, and being surrounded by passive-aggressive mum-wars, isn’t helping. Neither is her increasingly pent-up anger at her once-perfect husband. Her only comrade in arms, best friend Bea, is the one thing keeping her sane.

When Saoirse’s agent asks her to pitch for a book, she is horrified to discover the topic is motherhood. How can she possibly write a ‘warts and all’ account of being a mother without giving away what it’s really like?

Laugh-out-loud funny, painfully well-observed, but with an unmistakable warmth and unforgettable characters, this is the perfect antidote to all those parenting bibles that bear absolutely no relation to real life. The novel may or may not have been inspired by real life…

A funny, witty, and realistic look at motherhood!!!!

Saoirse had dreams of being a writer. She has achieved that goal…partially…she is a ghostwriter. She dreams that one day she will have her own name on a book. Until then, her job brings in money, and she is a mother to the precocious Anna and wife to the OCD David. Her best friend, Bea, who is a single mother is her only saving grace. She definitely can’t count on the snooty moms in the online group, Vale Mums.

Her dreams of having her own book may be coming to fruition. Her agent wants her to write a pitch for a book, and she is shocked when she discovers it is about motherhood. As her life spirals out of control, she decides to take a time out in Ireland. She is hoping this will help her write her pitch and figure out the direction her marriage is going.

Emma Murray’s look into motherhood is funny and brutally honest. I think a lot of women can relate to Saoirise’s deep thoughts. It has been a while since I have been the mother of a toddler, and those were some of the happiest yet hardest and most tiring days of my life.

This is a book that a great many mothers can relate too…from being exhausted to dealing with judgmental mothers. It also speaks to our need to connect with others in our communities and how we have replaced that with social media!

This is a must read for all mothers no matter what age your children are!!!!

New Review: Sweet Spot by Rebecca Jenshak

Sweet Spot by Rebecca Jenshak is LIVE and FREE in KU!

A hot-headed college golfer falls for her swing coach in this fun and sexy sports romance.

Lincoln Reeves may be a pro golfer and revered swing coach, but when I meet him, he is just one more person telling me I’m not good enough.
So, I do what any girl in my position would do. I tell him to get lost and take his arrogant, annoying smirk with him. I never expect to see him again. I certainly don’t expect to run into him that same night after one too many tequila shots.
Turns out that he’s kind of a big deal. Okay, fine, a really big deal. In fact, he might be the one person who can take my game to the next level.
Convincing him to help will be difficult.
Not throwing my club at his handsome face when he makes me work harder than I thought humanly possible will be excruciating.
But not falling for him will be the hardest thing of all.

What a great slow burn, age-gap sports romance!!!!

I’m a huge fan of sports romance, and I fell in love with this one. It had a great plot, great characters, and the romance struck the perfect combination of sweet and sexy!

Keira is a talented athlete, but her college golf coach doesn’t see it. He just wants results and is only too happy to reap the attention when his athletes are performing well. When Keira doesn’t perform like her coach wants, he ignores her. Enter Lincoln Reeves…a pro golfer and well-respected swing coach. He offers her some advice…only she sees it as criticism. Some misunderstandings ensue, but once those are resolved, Lincoln becomes the one who can take her on to the next level. It is clear from the beginning these two have some intense chemistry. The line between coach and athlete begins to blur…..

I really thought the plot was great and was fast moving even though the romance was a slow burn one. This was one of those books that I was able to finish in one sitting!!! Part of the reason it was such a great read was because of the characters of Keira and Lincoln. I loved the fact that it wasn’t only the male that was the athlete….it was the female. Keira was so relatable. She was incredibly talented, but she dealt with some self-confidence issues, no thanks to her jerk college coach. Lincoln was so supportive of her, and he never cared that she was in the spotlight. His pride leapt off the pages.

Like I said, this was a slow-burn romance. The chemistry was there, but there were some things working against them….their age gap. However, they were so similar that I forgot about it unless it was referenced in the book. Lincoln was wary of romance because of his work life. He was driven to make his business a success, and I liked that Keira was showing him to have more of a balance. Like I said, these two were perfect together.

I have read Rebecca Jenshak before, and she just keeps getting better with each book. On a side note, Lincoln’s grandmother could have her own book! What a character!!!!
