The bigger they are, the harder they fall—especially when biggest player is me.

Among her favorite vices, she includes: iced lattes, historical architecture and well-placed sarcasm. She lives colorfully, collects vintage books, art, loves flea markets, and fancies herself British.

Hard Fall is exactly why Sara Ney is one of my all-time favorite rom-com writers! I’m so glad she gave her readers Buzz’s story! I was in love with him in Hard Pass, and I fell even harder for him in this one!!! So, this was a perfect title for this book!
Hollis and Buzz might look like a couple who would have nothing in common. Buzz appears to have no cares in the world. He seems so relaxed about everything…nothing is too serious for him. Hollis, on the other hand, is very serious. She is the daughter of his boss, and she wants nothing to do with the family business of baseball. She has made her own way in the world, and she has every intention of continuing that journey. When she meets him, everything she thought she knew about herself and relationships will change…even if she resists at every turn. She will eventually come to realize she has more in common with Buzz than she ever imagined.
Buzz aka Trace is the BEST!!! He is a flirt, and to be honest with you, I thought he was also a player! Holy moly, I was so wrong! That was the nicest surprise of all! Women completely underestimate him. This is a guy who works on houses, is a member of his mother’s book club, and has just about the biggest heart, who truly cares about others’ happiness. In fact, he is a bit of a matchmaker. If women aren’t completely stereotyping him, they are taking advantage of him. Even Hollis makes judgments about him. The press calls him “America’s Favorite Pastime Playboy.” Hollis wants no part of that. She has had her fill of bad men in the form of her ex and her own father. However, he isn’t going to accept that…nope…not Trace. He is an optimist, and he is going to make Hollis his. We all know what he did to Noah in the first book!
As she gets to know him more, she realizes he isn’t at all the playboy she thought he was.
“I was expecting a sarcastic, entitled a**h****, and now that I know for a fact he’s not, I wish I didn’t. I want to go back to the place where I put him in a box, on the shelf, to sit, stereotyped and safely away from my heart.”
Whatever this is with Trace, she begins to see life and even herself differently. She realizes there really are good guys wrapped in the most unlikeliest of packages. She discovers that she can be herself in all her quirkiness with him.
Ney always gives her readers a fantastic secondary cast of characters…Buzz was the perfect example of this! We are able to see why he is the character he is because of his family. OMG…I loved his mother!!!! Being around them, gives our stubborn Hollis a whole new idea of family…one of love and joy.
Ney’s awesome sense of humor always shines through in every one of her books, and it is one of the very reasons I love her writing. For instance, Trace visualizes himself as Jake Ryan and Hollis as Molly Ringwald in the closing scene of Sixteen Candles. By the way, one of my favorite movies of all time, so I LOVED that! However, my absolute favorite is this one….a nod to Silence of the Lambs….
“I have her, I know it–and I plan to keep her, and not in an ‘I’m going to make a lamp out of your skin’ kind of way.”
OMG, that one had me rolling!!!! If you like a writer who can make you forget about real life for a while, by giving you a book to make you laugh and swoon, that is sweet and spicy, along with great characters, you can never go wrong with Sara Ney!!!!!
