The Bachelor Contract (The Bachelor Contract) by Rachel Van Dyken Blog Tour with Review

The Bachelor Contract, an all-new sexy standalone from #1 New York Times Bestseller Rachel Van Dyken is available NOW!!

The Bachelor Contract by Rachel Van Dyken

Release Date: November 28th

Genre: Contemporary Romance

A second-chance romance from the #1 NYT bestseller of The Bet, Matchmaker and Elite series!

She’s everywhere.

Love of his life.

The last person in the world he wanted to see…ever.

And now that he’s working beside her every day, he can’t escape her. Her scent, glimpses of her smile, even the tension in the air that makes his body hum with the kind of need he’d only experienced with one person-all of it is driving him over the edge.

Brant Wellington was certain of three things:

Alcohol wasn’t going to solve this.

He really was losing his F-ing mind.

And his gorgeous ex-wife was going to be the death of him.

*****5 STARS*****

OMG!!!! Another 5-star read from Rachel Van Dyken! Brant Wellington thought he was done with his ex-wife four years ago. However, the past and all those wonderful and painful feelings come rushing back when he finds himself working with her again. He wants her, but he is also angry with her. This isn’t a walk in the park for Nikki either. Four years ago, she thought she had everything until everything was taken from her. She has tried to leave the memories of Brant in the past, but she has never been able to. Now, they both will have to either find closure or happiness again!

I have to say the characters, with the exception of Nikki, are not what they seem. Seriously, I was hoping Nikki would not give Brant the time of day and would instead find happiness with her best friend, Cole. From the very beginning, I was not a fan of Brant’s AT ALL! He was such a JERK, and I felt like he didn’t deserve Nikki. As I read more of the book and got to know Brant better, I saw that underneath all the anger and arrogance was a man who lived daily with pain and tremendous guilt. So, I slowly fell in love with him. However, I was like Cole. I would have hurt him bad if he hurt Nikki again. Nikki was incredible. She lost so much, and she grieved like Brant did. She just did it differently. Both of them were realistic and flawed, and because of that, I could relate to them.

I have long been a fan of Rachel Van Dyken. She writes with her heart, and her emotions, and with a wicked sense of humor. All of those jump off the pages of her books. Her characters are always memorable, just as in this book. I can never recommend her enough to other readers. She weaves magic with every book she writes, whatever the genre may be. She does have a few surprises up her sleeve in this book too! Like me, I think readers will like them.

Lips Close to Mine (Wherever You Go) by Robin Bielman Blog Tour with Excerpt & Review

Lips Close to Mine, an all-new sexy STANDALONE romance from Robin Bielman is available now!

Lips Close to Mine by Robin Bielman

Genre: Contemporary Romance

Release Date: November 20th

I wasn’t supposed to see Levi Pierce ever again. A few months ago, he charmed the pants off me and we spent one incredible night together.

End of story.

Only it wasn’t. Pretty soon everywhere I turn, I see him. Our best friends are dating. My mother mistakenly—and happily—thinks he’s my plus-one to my cousin’s wedding. And he’s the guy I have to work with on the most important job opportunity of my life.

Here’s my problem: I like Levi. I like his killer smile and his dreamboat eyes and definitely the way he makes me feel in bed. But I’ve sworn off relationships. So when the sexual tension reaches epic proportions and we fall back into bed together, I tell myself it’s temporary. When I start to feel more, I tell myself it’s over.

Only Levi isn’t a forget-it kind of guy. When his lips are close to mine and he swears he’s always wanted me, my defenses disappear. But some things in life just aren’t meant to be.

Or are they?

“What do you say we open that champagne then skinny-dip in the fountain?” I ask, releasing my seat belt. That I’m dying to Harper her naked again might have something to do with my suggestion, too.

She searches my eyes for clues I’m serious. I help her out. “Unless you’re chicken.”

With a straight face, she unclicks her seat belt, picks up the bottle of champagne and proceeds to pop the cork like a champ. She takes a swig, her full lips wrapped around the bottle, her eyes never leaving mine. My dick twitches as I imagine her gorgeous mouth sucking me deep. Full disclosure: I’ve been picturing this every damn night for the past two months.

“Your turn.” She hands me the bottle as her tongue licks across her full bottom lip. If she’s trying to torture me, it’s working.

Our fingers brush when I accept the Dom Perignon, and once again, the small, effortless touch isn’t enough. I take a small gulp of the sparkling drink, mindful I’m driving. When finished, I pass it back. “So, your cousin said something interesting to me tonight.”

I laugh. The harder Harper tries to keep me at arm’s length, the more her family tries to draw me in. “Since you’re sitting at the head table during the wedding reception, she wanted me to know I’ll be sitting with your brothers.”

She chokes on the champagne. “What the hell? I never RSVP’d you were my plus-one.”

“Your mom did.”

Harper’s head falls back against the seat, chin up, eyes closed. “That woman is impossible. I’ll tell them you’re not coming to the wedding.”

“I don’t mind.”

“I do.”

“All right. Whatever you want.”

“That’s it? Just like that, you’re not coming now?” She shifts positions, drawing her legs up so she’s sitting on them and facing me. I hadn’t noticed that she’d slipped off her shoes.

“I don’t want to make you uncomfortable around your family.”

“You don’t do that.”

“You sure? I think I do.”

“No. You don’t. Not even a little. But…”

“But what?”

“I did tell my mom I had a date so she wouldn’t bug me about it. I was planning to find a random guy to go with me, so I guess since she thinks it’s you…” She takes a drink, extends me the bottle.

I put my palm over my heart. “How magnanimous of you.”

“I know,” she teases. “Don’t you forget it.”

“So I am going to the wedding?”

****5 STARS*****

I read Talk British to Me which was Mateo and Teagan’s story, who are the best friends of Levi and Harper. I loved that book, so I knew I would love this one. I was absolutely correct. I fell in love with the characters and the story. Levi and Harper were friends when they were children, but life took them in different directions. The two not only meet again but also share an incredible night of passion that neither one of them can forget even though they try. So, they brilliantly come up with a plan to just have sex and no feelings involved. Yeah…this plan is going to work!

I thought the way the book was written was brilliant. It was told from both of their POVs. But, some things stood out to me, such as Levi’s letters to Harper and Harper’s Positivity Journal. So much of who these characters were and their feelings and emotions were in those little golden nuggets. It made me feel like I was a good friend to both of them which truly pulled at my heartstrings. In addition, I loved the flashbacks each had of their childhood. They really liked one another even when they were in lust and falling in love.

Not only was this a romantic comedy, but some heavier emotions were involved as well. In the beginning, it appeared that these two were just into each other physically. Neither wanted to be emotionally involved. Both suffered losses that affected them, in different ways, but the hurt was still there.

“Liking someone engages more brain cells. It changes your beats per minute and leaves you vulnerable, and I never want to feel that open to heartache again.” ~Harper

I could see their tough exteriors eroding even if they couldn’t, and I thought they were perfect for one another. As with the first book, I loved the additional secondary characters, and I’m glad I got to catch up with Mateo and Teague. I’m also hoping we will get Elliot’s story soon!

I didn’t think Robin Beilman could top Talk British to Me, but she blew me away with Lips Close to Mine. I love a book about not only getting to know someone else, but I also like a book in which the characters also learn something about themselves when they are falling in love. Levi and Harper definitely learned important lessons and healed their broken hearts as they fell for one another. This is definitely one of my top reads of 2017! It’s the perfect combination of romance, steam, and emotion!

Sprung (The Frenemy Series Book 2) by Kate Benson New Release with 5-Star Review! Must Read Series!!!!

Boy meets girl, they spend a decade at each other’s throats, seething with hatred until fate lands them wasted together in an airport hotel, waking naked and hungover to find they’d done the unthinkable.

Tale as old as time, right?

Dash and I both thought that’d be the happy ending of our dysfunctional fairy tale, but months of bad decisions have somehow led us to where we are now-crazy in love, despite how hard we fought it.

I guess we’d be alright if we hadn’t forgotten one minor detail: We still had to tell my insanely overprotective brother and Dash’s best friend, Mason, the truth about us.

We thought the feelings we had for each other would fade out as quickly as the alcohol, that we could fight fate.

We were wrong.

Secrets, lies, deception… we should have known from the jump we weren’t smart enough to pull any of it off.
I’m not sure what me and Evie were thinking. Hell, we were so blindsided by all of this, I think it’s safe to say we weren’t thinking at all.

If we had been, we would have moved on before everything went to hell. I should have turned around and ran before I fell for her wicked vagina voodoo, but I didn’t.

What started as the most awkward walk of shame in history with my nemesis shifted into something neither of us saw coming.

We were powerless… hooked… it came for us, slamming into us like a cinder block.

By the time we looked up and saw what was happening, it was too late.

We were already sprung.

*****5 Stars*****

Absolutely adored Sprung!!!! It’s the continuation of Evie and Dash’s love story!! Dash and Evie spent years at each other’s throat, but somewhere along the way they became more and fell in love. It should be an easy road, right? Not so much…Evie is Dash’s best friend, Mason’s, sister. He’s EXTREMELY overprotective of Evie. No one is good enough for her, especially not Dash. Mason loves Dash like a brother, but Evie has always been off limits to Dash. So, the lovebirds have to find a way to tell Mason about their relationship and hope their friendship survives.

A great deal of the book deals with the couple trying to find a way to tell Mason. Without spoiling anything, it’s pretty explosive. While they are managing that, Benson delves deeper into the personalities of Evie and Dash and their newfound relationship. I thought I loved Evie in the first book, but I loved her even more in this one. This woman is fierce, but Benson showed me her vulnerable side. I didn’t realize her insecurities concerning Dash. I can understand why because of his past with women…the man has never had a relationship with women. Evie is the first, and her attempt to feel confident in Dash just made her more human and likeable to me.

And Dash, oh Dash. What woman wouldn’t fall for this man…he exudes sex, and his charm makes him irresistible. I LOVED watching him fall even deeper in love with Evie. The two are perfectly matched. He sees the uniqueness and beauty in Evie.

“There’s somethin’ inside you that other people? The don’t have it. Even before I loved you, I could see that…” ~Dash

He becomes Evie’s biggest supporter in her decisions concerning her future. In the process, Dash’s embraces his softer side. He is an adrenaline junkie. He is always trying to get Evie to let go of some of her control. Dash doesn’t realize that Evie is helping him let go of his fear of falling in love. As always with our beloved Kate Benson, this isn’t the end of the story. It looks like this is just the beginning. As always, Kate’s stories pack an emotional punch, and this one is even better because her wicked sense of humor comes through in each page. I will definitely be waiting for the next one in the series!

Evie King.
God, even her name leaves a bad taste in my mouth.
I’ve put up with her for years for my best friend, her overprotective older brother, Mason.
I’d grown comfortable in my distaste, reliant on my hatred. But when a favor goes too far and I wake up naked next to my sworn nemesis in a hotel room in Dallas?
That’s when my life begins spiraling out of control.
We swore we’d keep it between us. We vowed to never let it happen again.
Can you crave and loathe someone at the same time?
I’m about to find out.
It only takes one snowflake to start an avalanche.
Welcome to the avalanche.

Have you ever met one of those people who just dry humps your last nerve?
Enter Dash Hunter. Humper of my nerves.
Leave it to this jackass to ruin my life.
I’d had it all, but one drunken mistake with this asshole has it all crashing down.
They say everything happens for a reason, but I see no rhyme or reason to this disaster.
This was never what we wanted, not at all what we planned.
We were supposed to do our respective walks of shame and move on, but then…
We were blindsided. We never saw it coming.
All we want is to go back to what made sense, back to hating each other, but there’s a problem.
How do you defeat your enemy when you’re no longer frigid?

The Outliers (The STUNNING conclusion to The Outskirts Duet) by T.M. Frazier Blog Tour with Excerpt & 5 +++ Star Review!!!

The Outliers, the stunning conclusion to The Outskirts Duet by T.M. Frazier is available NOW!

The Outliers cover

The Outliers by T.M. Frazier

Release Date: November 9th, 2017

Genre: Contemporary Romance

Sensual. Heartbreaking. Passionate. Overwhelming. Maddening.

That’s the love Finn and I share.

It’s the kind you can never recover from.

The kind you never WANT to recover from.

That’s why we’ll do everything and anything to protect it.

When my past chases me all the way to Outskirts, we have to make a choice.

Let the lies destroy our chance at future together or…bury them deep in the swamp where they belong.

Got a shovel?

My eyes went to her throat. I saw her pulse quicken beneath her smooth skin. She twisted her pouty pink lips. Her hesitation only lasted a second before she wrapped her arms around my neck and pulled me down closer so that the tips of our noses touched. Her lips feathered against mine. “Fuck me, Finn.”

“Yes,” I growled.

I may have been the one who told her to say those words but hearing them out of her mouth caused the raging inferno of lust within me to explode beyond control. I had a feeling I’d be hearing those words on repeat in my head for the rest of my life.

Fuck me, Finn.

I lifted her up onto the nearest table and pushed her onto her back. I tore her panties off in one tug and while I devoured her with my eyes, I somehow managed to concentrate enough to unbuckle my belt and push my jeans down over my ass, freeing my throbbing cock.

Sawyer moaned when I parted her legs, stepping between them. The sound was pure fucking heaven. Our tongues danced while we drank each other in. I savored the way her body felt against mine. Hard against soft. I dug my fingers into the flesh of her perfectly round ass before moving them to her pussy where I parted her warm wet folds and strummed her swollen clit because Sawyer was my instrument of choice and only I knew how to play her to perfection.

The look on Sawyer’s face when I inserted a finger inside of her was as if I’d just given her a drug. She was high on the pleasure. Her lids were heavy. Her pupils large and dark. I was dead set on making sure I wrung every bit of pleasure from her gorgeous body and I gave her exactly what she’d asked me for.

5 ++++ STARS

AMAZING, BEAUTIFUL, STUNNING….I thought T.M. Frazier blew me away with Outskirts, but she proved me COMPLETELY wrong. The Outliers is one of my all-time favorite reads just as the first book was, and it’s also the top read so far of 2017 for me. I’m just speechless….

I won’t give much away in the plot or spoil anything from the first book, but this picks up right where Book 1 ended. Secrets will be revealed and danger is coming to town. I just fell more in love with Finn and Sawyer. Finn not only protects Sawyer, but he also assures her of her own strength.

“And no one could break you. No one. You’re far too strong to be broken by weak minded people. Look at all you’ve been through and how far you’ve come.”

I saw a completely different side to Sawyer. She is definitely not the scared, unsure woman she was when I first met her in The Outskirts. She is a “damsel and a knight.” Despite the pain she and Finn faced, they never let it determine how they felt about each other and other people in Outskirts. She and Finn have both grown in ways I never imagined.

T.M. Frazier has a magical gift of telling a story. This duet delved way below the surface of being a romance. It came full-circle, and I love when a book does that. She also addressed the issue of faith, and it was beautiful.

“We focus on the goodness in our hearts because God lives in our hearts, not the details.”

The title, The Outliers, is a perfect choice. Frazier not only tells readers what the definition is, but what it means for Finn and Sawyer. There are just so many details like these that seem small, but they aren’t. They define the characters and the story itself.

One added note…LOVED the bonus scenes…especially Critter’s. AHHH…I love this man!!!!

If you haven’t read this Duet, you SERIOUSLY NEED TO DO IT NOW!!!!!

“Life is meant to be lived, and loving someone, with everything you have is one of the wildest, most extreme, life changing things you can do.”

Oliver and London’s relationship wild and a life-changing one. The two meet at Oliver’s high school reunion. London is there with a friend of hers, but she leaves with Oliver. They are complete opposites. She’s adventurous, and he’s a planner. He also intrigues her because he has no idea who she is, the legendary daughter of a basketball legend. What should have been a one-night stand develops into something more, but can these two who are complete opposites make something temporary permanent.

I adored both London and Oliver. Oliver is one of the Shaw brothers, but he is so different from the rest of them. He grew up on a farm but hated it. He would rather be inside cooking or playing a video game than getting dirty. He knows absolutely nothing about sports. Because of these differences, he felt like he never belonged. He didn’t always believe his family loved him as much as he loved them. His parents and brothers were important to him, and Xavier Neal made that so clear in his interactions with them. Through London, he learns that his family sees him and loves him more than he thinks they do.

London loves her parents, and they adore her. Her father respects her and her business decisions. The relationship with her two older half-sisters is not good at all. London was raised very differently than Oliver. She has never really known what it’s like to live in one place for too long. She and her mother always traveled with her father, living in luxury hotels. So, her life is a lot more unpredictable than Oliver’s. He works in an office or at home. She travels the world for her job. While the two embrace their differences in the beginning, they begin to take a toll on each of them. Oliver’s tendency to re-do the dishes after she has washed them and what she perceives as his jealousy of working with other men and flying all over the country begin to get on her nerves. Her forgetting important events or not even asking him to go with her on her travels hurts him.

Different people want and need different things, and Oliver and London will have to learn to embrace and love those differences between each other. Neal did such a wonderful job of realistically portraying both of them and the struggles they face to make their relationship work. They are so good together….both in and out of the bedroom. There is a deep love and respect between them. Watching these two try to find harmony, balance, and love was a journey I would gladly take again.

The Shaw family is one of my favorite families. Each brother each have their own personalities as do each of their ladies. I really hope at one point we can get Mama and Pop Shaw’s love story. These two are a hoot! I can only imagine what a wild, passionate, and romantic story they would have to share.

****5 ++++ STARS****

I’m truly at a loss of words…yes, When Dawn Breaks by Melissa Toppen was that good! There were times my heart was broken, and then she deftly put it back together again. I’m AMAZED!

Love…it’s all that really matters at the end of the day. The people you love and the ones who love you. That’s what life is about.”

Unfortunately, Bree has never really known what love really means until the birth of her son Jack when she was just 17. Now, Jack is 5, and she has worked hard to be the mother to Jack that she never had. Bree moved from the east coast to California to be with her grandparents, and she tried to work past the pain of her childhood and make her life bearable. Her best friends, Tess and Courtney, have been her support system for as long as she can remember. They are the only ones, besides her therapist, who know all of her past. Both women have given her the strength to be the woman and mother she is today.

A chance meeting with her high school friend, Anthony, will be the catalyst that could possibly give her the life she has always dreamed about or completely break her. Anthony was Courtney’s boyfriend in high school, but he broke it off with her senior year because he had feelings for someone else and didn’t want to string Courtney along. Anthony and Bree always had a connection in high school. When they reconnect, the feelings they had when they were younger intensify. They are drawn to each other because of their childhoods. They were horrific. Of course, they try to deny their growing attraction, but it’s getting harder as they spend almost all their time together. This is a couple that deserve their HEA, but can they overcome their pasts? How will their relationship affect her friendship with Courtney? Even if it was over years ago with Courtney and Ant, Bree would never jeopardize her friendship, but now she doesn’t think she could choose between them.

This is a tearjerker. Parts were very difficult to read, but I’m glad I did. Bree and Ant are both amazing characters. They are so incredibly strong. They each carried secrets and burdens by themselves that no child should ever have to carry. Sadly, many do in the real world, and Toppen did an amazing job addressing an incredibly difficult subject. My heart broke for both, but Bree about devastated me. It’s incredible and hard to fathom that a woman knew what shame, devastating physical and mental pain, neglect, rejection, and loneliness was, but she had no idea how to process the possibility of love and hope. I’m still fighting tears. She and Ant prove that your past doesn’t have to define you…you can create something new and better.

This book will stay with me forever. I just hope that others that have or are suffering abuse will find someone like Bree and Ant who will “pull them from the shadows and give them the strength to face the dawn, as they did, scars and all.” That those that are broken will “know what it means to be healed.” Thank you, Melissa Toppen for an incredibly emotional, moving, and beautiful book!

An Ex for Christmas by Lauren Layne with Excerpt, 5 Star Review, and Giveaway!

Named Best Book of the Month by Amazon

Love Unexpectedly

Lauren Layne

Releasing Nov 7, 2017

She’s making a list—and checking it twice. But is there a nice guy among all her naughty exes? The New York Times bestselling author of Blurred Lines returns with a charming friends-to-lovers rom-com.

When a psychic tells spunky, superstitious Kelly Byrne that she’s already met her true love, she becomes obsessed with the idea of tracking him down before Christmas. Kelly immediately writes up an “Ex List” and starts contacting old boyfriends to figure out which one is the one. When her college sweetheart rolls into town, Kelly convinces herself that they’re meant to be. The trouble is, sparks are flying with someone she’s never given a chance: her best friend, Mark.

Mark Blakely has watched the guys on Kelly’s list break her heart, and he’s not looking forward to watching them do it all over again. Mark’s always been there for her, but the timing’s never worked out for their relationship to be something more. Now, just as Mark is ready to move on, the sexual tension between them is suddenly off the charts. With Christmas morning around the corner, he just hopes Kelly will wake up and realize that everything she wants has been right in front of her all along.

As I walk, I check the weather app on my phone, delighted to see that while it’s nothing but rain today, there’s a chance of a snow shower tomorrow. Nothing says Christmas break like snow.

I just miss my train, but there’s a decent-ish voice singing “White Christmas” nearby, and the platform’s not too crowded, so waiting’s not as bad as it could be.

My eye catches on a middle-aged woman who’s set up camp under one of the stairwells. It’s not unusual to see all manner of people under the streets of New York, although this one’s better dressed than most. She’s wearing a blousy red shirt, jeans, and ankle boots, and is sitting cross-legged on a plaid blanket. She’s got twigs of what seem to be fake roses in her hair.

None of that’s the weird part.

What’s weird is that she’s watching me. Intently.

We make awkward eye contact, and I give a quick smile before turning my attention back to my phone.

But I still feel her eyes on me.

Not in an unfriendly way, not in the way that makes me mentally catalog whether or not I saw any cops on my way down here who would hear me if I scream. She doesn’t seem eager to push me onto the train tracks either, and since that’s every New Yorker’s secret fear, that’s a plus.

Still, the focus is unsettling. I glance up again, and her eyes lock on mine. Her dark gaze is clear and focused, and I can’t decide if that’s more or less disturbing than if she seemed sort of hazy.

Then she smiles right at me. “Kelly.”

I get immediate goosebumps for reasons that have nothing to do with the winter weather. She knows my name.

“Come.” She beckons. “Come. I see.

Now you’re thinking, Hell, no. Run!

I should be thinking the same, and on some level, I am, but . . .

There are a couple dozen people around. None are paying attention to me, but it’s not like I’m all alone in a dark alley.

And look, we’ve already established that I believe in fate expressing itself through a Magic 8 ball and horoscopes, and though I haven’t mentioned it yet, I totally avoid black cats, the number thirteen, and walking under ladders.

I also believe that there’s such a thing as sight. I know, because my grandma had it.

Grandma Shirley was one of those delightfully batty old ladies that most people dismissed as quirky, but nobody can deny that she seemed to know stuff. She knew when I’d win my soccer game, and by how many points. She knew when her cat’s litter of kittens would be born, down to the minute. Once she’d even predicted an earthquake, even though they’re really rare in New York.

She’d passed away when I was in eleventh grade (she’d predicted the when and how of that too), and though I didn’t inherit her talents, I’ve never stopped believing that some people see and know things that they shouldn’t. I call it the Sight.

I step closer, and the woman grins and beckons me even nearer.

I stop a healthy few feet away. I’m superstitious, not crazy.

The woman leans forward. “You seek love.”

Huh. Color me unimpressed. I mean, don’t most humans seek love? Sure, I’m recently single, and I don’t particularly want to be. And maybe I sometimes try a little too hard to find my forever guy.

But I’m not hearing anything other than generic lucky guesses from this lady.

“Sure,” I say, already starting to back away.

She holds up a hand. “The one you seek? Your forever guy, the love of your life . . .”

I freeze, because her phrasing echoes my thoughts almost exactly. A coincidence? Maybe. I don’t move away just yet, willing to hear her out.

She smiles again. “You’ve already met him.”

I blink. “What? I think you may want to recheck that crystal ball. I’m single.”

Her smile merely grows. “I didn’t say you weren’t single. I said you’d already met him. You just let him go. He’ll come back to you before Christmas.”

Whoa whoa whoa. This is . . .

“You’re telling me that the love of my life is one of my exes?”

She extends both of her palms as though to say, There you have it!

I stifle a little surge of disappointment. Clearly she hasn’t met my exes. There are some decent ones in the mix, but mostly they’re duds, and none of them make my heart beat faster. Well, maybe—

Nope. No. Do not go there.

Thankfully, I feel the rumble of an oncoming train, and a glance over my shoulder tells me my ride outta here is approaching.

“Thanks very much,” I say with a strained smile. “Merry Christmas.”

“Happy holidays,” she says with a nod, standing and gathering up her blanket. Apparently she’s taken a cue from Madison Meyers and is sticking close to the PC route. Fair enough.

I lift a hand in a wave and move toward the train, but her next words give me a fresh wave of new goosebumps.

“Tell your parents happy anniversary. Thirty’s going to be a magical year for them.”

I whip my head around. “How did you—”

The woman is gone.

Like vanished gone.

Leaving me to wonder . . .

If a woman I’d never met was right about my parents’ anniversary, was she also right about other stuff?

Have I already met my one true love?

***5 Stars***

LOVED, LOVED this book! An Ex for Christmas is exactly why Lauren Layne is one of my favorite authors! Kelly is a teacher at a prestigious elementary school in NYC. She is looking forward to the Christmas holidays even if she will be alone. On her way back to her weekend home in upstate New York, she meets a mysterious woman who tells her she will find her true love before Christmas. However, she says it will be someone that Kelly already met. Kelly, being who she is, composes a list of all her exes. She plans on reconnecting with them to determine which one is her soulmate. She decides to get the help from her best friend, Mark.

Mark has always been there for Kelly, but Kelly doesn’t realize he wants to be there for her more than just a best friend. He has always been in love with Kelly, but he never found the right time to tell her. He watched as all Kelly’s boyfriends broke her heart. He is trying to move on, but as they spend more time together, something is different. The sexual chemistry between them sizzles. Could Kelly finally be seeing what was right in front of her the whole time?

One thing Layne always does so well are her quirky characters, never making them over the top or corny. Kelly is no exception. This woman is hilarious. She is superstitious, believing in fortune tellers, tea leaves, and NEVER crosses a path with a black cat. On the other hand, Mark doesn’t believe in any of it. But, he humors Kelly. He is devoted to her. Seriously, this guy takes care of her dog during the week while she is teaching. He just lets her be who she is and loves her anyway. They are perfect together.

Even though the book takes place over a short period of time, nothing is left out. Layne did a fabulous job of showing the foundation and lasting friendship between Kelly and Mark. I was just waiting on Kelly to finally wake up and see her love was in front of her the whole time! If you’re looking for a perfect holiday read, look no further than An Ex for Christmas!

All-Time Favorite

Top Read of 2017

Shock Jock is exactly why I am such a huge A.M. Madden fan. It is one of my all-time favorite friends-to-lovers novel. Vaughn is Jack Lair’s cousin, and has all the male Lair qualities as his cousin Lizzy says, “stunning and cocky runs in his blood.” He also has his own success as a popular radio talk show host whose star is continuing to rise. He has just signed a lucrative contract with satellite radio. His best friend and assistant, Haven, is going with him leaving California and moving to New York.

Moving to New York will change both Vaughn and Haven’s lives in ways they never could have imagined. The lines between friendship and more become blurred. Vaughn is used to helping others with their relationships, but one hot kiss with Haven has him confused and not sure what to do…he now finds himself needing advice. Haven is just adorable, and it’s about time Vaughn realize it. He’s completely thrown for a loop. He is seeing her in a whole new light, and it scares the heck out of him. She’s been is everything for years, and he doesn’t want to lose her.

I have read a lot of friends-to-lovers books, but I can honestly say I haven’t read one that delves into the confusion and uncertainty that Vaughn and Haven encountered. Their emotions literally jumped off the pages and made me feel everything they were feeling. Then, add in the intense chemistry between the two of them, and it makes this book just about perfect!

I have read all of The Back-Up Series by A.M. Madden, and I loved each book. She writes books that always tugs at my heart, and this one is no different. Her incredible writing and character development are what always keeping me coming back for more!!!

Top Read of 2017

Oh my, Staci Hart has stolen my heart again with a sweet, sexy romance full of emotion and characters I fell in love with. Hannah has come to America from The Netherlands as an au pair. Her first job didn’t go at all like she planned, and for her own sanity and safety, she had to quit. Now, she has the chance at another job, and she has to make this work. When handsome, single father, Charlie opens the door and sees the beautiful Hannah, neither one will ever be the same!

Charlie and Hannah were destined to be together. Both have been hurt in different ways, and that hurt and pain has caused them not to trust others easily. The attraction and bond these two share is evident from the very first time they lay eyes on each other, and it grows every day. Of course, they try to fight it. He is amazed by her kindness and love he sees when she is with his children, Maven and Sammy. Those moments were some of the most heart-felt and sweetest of the book. Charlie has been living in a place with no color and joy, and Hannah brings that back to his life. He continually beats himself up for always working and not having time for his children. Again, Hannah helps him learn how to be a fantastic father. Charlie helps Hannah realize her dreams as well. As good as these two are together, there are outside forces that threaten to tear them apart. I just hoped they learned from their past and had learned to trust one another.

Staci Hart is so good at what she does. The book is well-written, and the characters, even the secondary ones like Katie, Charlie’s housekeeper, Charlie’s children, Sammy and Maven, Hannah’s best friend and family bring even more color and life to the book. Hart is a master at using small nuances, like small glances and touches, to make you feel the emotions and pull of the characters. If you like a good love story with the right combination of emotion, romance, and spice, you need to grab this one today!

The next morning, I was up and in my office before anyone was awake, attacking my work with newfound enthusiasm and a plan in mind. Because I wanted to feel like I’d felt the night before in the kitchen again, and there was only one way to get that back.

Today, I would take a few breaks and be present. Today, I would change, work be damned. Today would mark the first real attempt. Because change wouldn’t happen on its own. I had to make it happen. And to make it happen, I would have to put boundaries in place, starting with my weekends.

I checked the clock around eleven that morning and closed my laptop, pushing away from my desk and heading up the stairs in search of my children.

When I rounded the corner into the kitchen, I found them sitting at the table with their lunches. And when they saw me, their smiles validated my grand plans with unwavering certainty.

“Hey, guys,” I said, smiling back as I walked over to them, ruffling Sammy’s hair when I passed him.

“Hi, Daddy,” he said.

Maven’s mouth was full, so she just waved, and Hannah smiled at me from the island where she was setting up a spread for sandwiches.

I snagged a grape off Maven’s plate and popped it into my mouth. She handed me another, which I accepted.

“Thanks, pumpkin.”

“Are you done working?” Sammy asked hopefully.

“’Fraid not, bud. But I thought I’d come have lunch with you. Is that okay?”

“Yeah! Want a Nilla Wafer?”

“Psh, obviously. And I thought we could play for a little bit before I have to get back to work. What do you say?”

He nodded, grinning. “We can play trucks! You be the bulldozer and I’ll be the tractor and Maven can be the monster truck and Hannah can be the ambulance because she helps people.”

“Perfect,” I said on a chuckle.

A burst of color caught my eye. A vase on the windowsill behind the table held a spray of red and orange tulips.

“Those are beautiful,” I said, gesturing to them. “Where did they come from?”

“Oh, I picked them up this morning,” Hannah said with that ever-present smile.

“Feeling homesick?”

“Always a little. But I love having fresh flowers in the house, something bright and delicate and alive. Well, maybe not alive anymore, but it feels alive, doesn’t it?”

“It does,” I said as I moved to her side.

“Can I make you a sandwich?” Hannah asked.

“Nah, I think I can manage, thanks. How’s it going this morning?”

“It’s good. We went to the park this morning.”

“I rode my bike!” Sammy crowed.

“Did you? No bumps or scrapes?”

“I’m impressed. Maybe next time I can come too,” I said, hoping it was something I could deliver as I reached into the bread bag for a stack.

Hannah turned to the cupboard, returning with a plate for me.

“Thank you.”

She was still smiling, standing at my side, assembling her sandwich. It was so mundane, something completely and utterly boring, but like the weirdo that I was, I found myself watching her hands as she folded cold cuts. We worked around each other—not that it was complicated, but there was a sort of rhythm between us, a natural pace wherein I used what she wasn’t and finished just as she needed what I had. I wasn’t sure why I noticed it, but I did, and I appreciated the simple synchronicity of the moment, a breath where things were easy.

I passed her the mustard as she handed me the ham. “So, I was thinking …” I paused.

“Oh, were you?” She glanced over at me with a hint of mirth at the corners of her lips.

“I know. I almost sprained something.”

Hannah laughed gently.

“If it’s okay, I think I’d like to try to handle bedtime tonight.”

“Of course it’s okay; they’re your children.” That time, her laughter was sweet.

“Do you … would you … do you think you could maybe …”

She shifted to face me, her eyes full of encouragement.

“Would you mind … helping me?”

Hannah nodded, her smile opening up. “That’s what I’m here for. Just let me know what you’d like me to do.”

I smiled back. “I’m sorry. I know it sounds stupid. I just … I haven’t done this much on my own, but I’d like to start.”

Her eyes softened, caught by slanting light, lighting up with sunshine. “There’s nothing to be afraid of,” she said simply.

I didn’t speak.

“There’s no right or wrong, and they don’t care about anything other than you being there. It’s simple enough; you only have to try.”

“Is it really that easy?”

“It really is. You’ll see.” She reached for my arm and gave it a squeeze that wasn’t meant to be anything but friendly but held something more, something in the pressure in her fingertips and the depths of her eyes.

It was something I did my very best to ignore. But I felt the heat of those fingertips long after they were gone, even as we sat across the table from each other eating lunch, the tulips in the vase behind her bowing their long heads as the sunlight illuminated them, exposing what was hidden within their petals.

About the Author

Staci has been a lot of things up to this point in her life — a graphic designer, an entrepreneur, a seamstress, a clothing and handbag designer, a waitress. Can’t forget that. She’s also been a mom, with three little girls who are sure to grow up to break a number of hearts. She’s been a wife, though she’s certainly not the cleanest, or the best cook. She’s also super, duper fun at a party, especially if she’s been drinking whiskey.

From roots in Houston to a seven year stint in Southern California, Staci and her family ended up settling somewhere in between and equally north, in Denver. They are new enough that snow is still magical. When she’s not writing, she’s reading, sleeping, gaming, or designing graphics.

One of my All-Time Favorites & A Favorite of 2017!

“How do you move on from the only one who has ever spoken to your soul?”

Holy cow!!! Lisa Suzanne certainly ended the series PERFECTLY!!!! As with the other books, it only took me mere hours to devour this one. I was waiting for this book on pins and needles, especially with how things ended in book 2.

It begins exactly where book 2 left off. I didn’t think Suzanne could surprise again, but she certainly did with the beginning of this one! I learned very quickly that people aren’t always what they seem to be. Unfortunately for Reese, she finds this out the hard way. To say she is shattered would be a grave understatement. However, she uses this opportunity to begin with a “clean slate.” Her heart is nowhere nearly healed, but she finally invests in herself and not the Fox brothers. At times through the other books, I would get annoyed with her because of what I perceived as weakness. But, with this book, I really got to see what she was made of, and I have to say, I really liked her!

As the synopsis says, she may be dragged back into the Fox drama, and I hoped it wouldn’t stop her new-found strength and determination. If you were on the fence about one brother or the other, I think it’s safe to say you will be 100 percent either in Brian or Mark’s corner very quickly. I wasn’t sure how I would like it when I began the very first book knowing it was about a woman torn between two brothers. But in Lisa Suzanne’s capable hands, she not only made me like it but LOVE it. She handled a tricky, and sometimes painful story into books I loved and couldn’t put down.

I am being vague of the plot because I do not want to spoil a thing about this awesome series!!!! If you are looking for a quick read full of angst, drama, spice, and especially romance, I HIGHLY RECOMMEND THIS SERIES! I do want to add something though, Lisa, I’m keeping my fingers crossed that maybe Ethan will get his own book!
