Two (Love by Numbers Book 7)

by E.S. Carter

About the Book:

One becomes two.
Two become one.

Should love be easy?
Because, after all, love is love.

I once thought I didn’t have a type.
Man or woman, I didn’t have a preference. If I liked you, I liked you.
I was wrong.
I have a preference—a strong one.
His name is Flynn.
Flynn Phillips.

Life is no longer full of ones but full of firsts.

Can I make Flynn my last?
Can one become two… forever?

Book #7 in the ‘Love by Numbers’ series.
The continuation of Iz & Flynn’s story from One (Book #5 in the series).
Not a standalone.

5 Stars

This is part 2 in Isaac and Flynn’s duet. I had forgotten how much I loved these “Two” until I read this book!!

Isaac and Flynn both love each other but when old insecurities raise their ugly head, it’s going to take both of them handling things differently than they have in the past. Their careers have them thousands of miles apart but they try to keep their connection alive and are learning to communicate their needs with each other. Isaac and Flynn had their HFN ending with One but do they have what it takes for the long haul?

I love all members of the Fox family and didn’t realize how much I had missed them until I began this book. It is so easy to fall right back in with them. Isaac and Flynn love each other and their connection is so passionate but sometimes you need more to make it last and that’s what this story is about. My only complaint about this book is that it was over too soon and now I have to wait to reconnect with this family once more! I continue to be a huge fan of ES Carter!!

About the Author:

71Wrb2dFmDL._US230_

USA Today Bestselling Author, ES Carter, lives in Cardiff, South Wales—the home of castles, dragons, and folklore.

Her family joke that she was born with a book in her hand, and the urge to write stories soon followed.
At eleven, she won her school’s literary prize. At ages fourteen to sixteen – her poetry phase after falling in love with Dylan Thomas and e.e. cummings – she had a few poems published, but life, love, and family overtook her dreams, and she was in her thirties when she began the scary journey of self-publishing.
Her debut and internationally best-selling series, ‘Love by Numbers’, are a set of interconnected stand-alone romances, all with varying themes of love. From second-chance to romantic comedy and M/M romance. These stories do not need to be read in order (apart from the opening duet Nineteen/Twenty One), in fact, she is often guilty of advising readers to start at the last book and work their way back through.
Contemporary romance is not the only genre she writes, her second series, ‘The Red Order’, is as dark and twisted as you can get, but there is beauty there too if you can open your eyes and look.

With many more stories bursting to be set free, she hopes you stay along for the ride.
She loves to connect with readers, so please feel free to friend/follow her on Facebook, IG, and Twitter or join her reader’s group, E’s Elite ❤

Just Love by Prescott Lane Blog Tour with Excerpt Review

Just Love - BT banner.jpg

Just Love by Prescott Lane

Release Date: July 9, 2019

Just Love Cover.jpeg

Just Love, an all-new standalone contemporary romance by Prescott Lane.

There’s two sides to every love story. The how you fell in love, and the how you fell apart.

This is ours.

The cardinal rule of friendship is you don’t mess with your friend’s sister.

That goes double when she’s his little sister.

It was just supposed to be fun.

She wasn’t supposed to end up being the love of my life.

And I definitely wasn’t supposed to break her heart.

Ainsley is a wedding dress designer. That should’ve been a warning that she’s a hopeless romantic. That should’ve clued me in that she believes love conquers all.

But there are some things that love can’t fix. I’m one of them.

She thinks love is the answer.

But love is the reason I let her go.

A stand-alone, contemporary romance.

5 STARS

Another hit from Prescott Lane!! Definitely a top read of 2019!! I fell in love with this cover and then I fell in love with the story of Rhett and Ainsley.
Ainsley has had a crush on Rhett, her older brother’s best friend, for years. Now that she’s grown and settled back in town and living right downstairs from Rhett, it isn’t long before she realizes the attraction is mutual. They agree to just have a little fun and no one needs to know but they soon discover things are more than just fun. When Ainsley’s brother finds out, he isn’t happy at all but they hope he will eventually come around. Then in the blink of an eye, Ainsley and Rhett’s new-found love and happiness is shattered. Can they find their way back to each other and the love they share?
I loved the forbidden romance part of this story but this is also a second-chance romance which is also a favorite. I had no idea this story would break my heart several times but Ms. Lane does a wonderful job of putting the pieces back together. Beautiful story and I think this is my favorite book by Prescott Lane to date. She will continue to be a must read author for me!!

Excerpt:

I knew the kind of guy Rhett was. I knew serious wasn’t his thing. I knew using the word love usually sent him running for the hills. I knew it, and I did it anyway.

But he wasn’t that guy with me. He and I were different. I know he loved me.

I’ve loved that man since I was fifteen years old. How could I not? Forget the abs, the tan skin, those pale, sexy blue eyes. Forget the fact that his voice sends shivers down my spine. The first time we kissed, I felt my whole world shatter and fall into place at the same time.

I tried to pretend to be “that” girl. The kind that can kiss a guy just for fun, screw a man and not imagine a life with him. I tried. I failed. The hopeless romantic in me wasn’t having it.

My heart should’ve known better — but my heart was no match for Rhett Bennett.

When Rhett and I fell apart, I broke up with social media. I have to say, that breakup was a lot easier. No hashtags, no emojis, no memes to post. Some people use social media as their therapist. I’ve seen people post play-by-plays of their divorce, or explain every detail of their latest illness or drama. I probably could’ve attracted a lot more followers if I chronicled the demise of our relationship. It’s the stuff of soap operas.

But instead, I broke it off with Facebook, banned Instagram, and boycotted Twitter.

Today, Facebook and I are having one last romp. Relationship status update: Single.

That’s it. That one little change. I have to start somewhere. Skye’s right about that.

The one part of being single I have embraced is the diet. The single woman diet consists of basically any breakfast food for dinner, coffee, and alcohol. I’ve gotten so good at it, I no longer need a grocery cart when I shop. Quick tip, don’t get a cart at the grocery store, only buy what you can hold. It’s good for the budget and the waistline. Unfortunately, that rule doesn’t work so well at clothing stores.

New Review: One Little Lie by Whitney Barbetti

9 Jul

New Release: One Little Lie by Whitney Barbetti

One Little Lie by Whitney Barbetti

Genre: New Adult

Designer: Najla Qamber Designs

Blurb:

Adam Oliver hated me. Loathed my very existence. He had every right to, but that didn’t make my life any easier the afternoon I had to rescue him on the side of the road.

But worse than rescuing a guy who hated me to his core was the lie I told my parents.

Because I’d just told them that my long-term boyfriend was finally back in town.

My long-term boyfriend who didn’t actually exist.

The one named Adam Oliver—the guy I’d crushed on all through high school.

So the real Adam had no idea that he and I were engaged in a years-long, committed, serious relationship.

And, somehow, some way, I needed to convince him to play along with my one little lie.

Danielle’s Review

4 STARS

This is my first read by this author and I really liked it. While I have heard lots about her over the past few years, this blurb finally made me take the leap. The story starts off a little slow for me but once the story got going, I was hooked.
Hollis has had a crush on Adam for a long time even though he has never seemed to like her and now that high school is nearly over, she tries to make a connection with him at a party. She is finally breaking through the wall between them when an incident happens and Adam is back to hating Hollis. A few years later, Hollis is feeling pressure from her parents to get serious with someone and start looking towards marriage. One little lie later, Hollis needs help from Adam who is back in town after leaving right after graduation. She is able to convince him to help her but how much is that one little lie going to cost her? Will she ever be able to make Adam see she is not the enemy he believes her to be?
I really liked both characters and could see how the misunderstandings between them could happen. However, I was at times frustrated with Adam’s expectations of Hollis. I liked the ending and will definitely continue with this series with other characters to hopefully revisit Adam and Hollis to see what the future holds for them. Overall a great read and I look forward to reading more from this author!

Caulk Tease by Megan Green & Alexandria Bishop Release Blitz with Review

Title: Caulk Tease
Series: BrookStone Partners #1
Authors: Megan Green & Alexandria Bishop
Genre: Romantic Comedy
Release Date: June 14, 2019
Blurb
Caulk Tease /ˈkäkˌtēz/: A woman who knows her way around a power tool, and isn’t afraid to use it.
Six weeks ago I was broke, alone, and about to be homeless.

Six weeks ago I had zero intention of moving back to Winchester, Colorado—aka Mayberry on crack.

Six weeks ago a one-night stand had never crossed my mind.

Now?

I threw that all out the window for him. He’s tall, dark, and handsome—with a body made for sin. Hard, fast, and dirty bar bathroom sex has to be experienced at least once, right?

It’s only my luck he’s also my boss and best friend’s older brother.

Barrett Brooks doesn’t believe a woman belongs on a construction site, especially with his company on the line. I’ll prove him wrong—let’s just hope I don’t fall back into bed with him in the process.

Francesca M. Healy

Loved this story!!

Monroe has had a hard life. Almost everyone she has ever been close to has left her or passed away. When she falls on hard times, she has nowhere to turn except an old high school friend. Now, she has a job as a foreman on a construction site and a place to sleep, it might be a shady motel, but it will do until she is back on her feet.

Barrett has had a pretty easy life but he is determined to make a name for himself as one of the owners of a construction company. Things aren’t going according to plan on a major project and when his brother says he has someone that can help them out, Barrett trusts that he’s right. Barrett doesn’t know what to think of a female being a foreman on a construction job and figures this project is doomed.

Monroe is prepared to do battle with Barrett if necessary to prove herself worthy of this job. But it’s a thin line between love and hate and there is plenty of sparks between Monroe and Barrett to keep things hot! Will these two be able to work together to get the job done and come out on the other side as more than enemies?

I loved this book so much! This book has it all – fantastic main characters, lots of humor, witty banter, tons of chemistry and an all-around phenomenal story. I loved the other characters as well and can’t wait to read the next book by these 2 authors in this series!

Highly recommend!

Falling for You by Jennifer Van Wyk Blog Tour with Excerpt & Review

FFY - BT banner.jpg

Falling For You, an all-new sexy and emotional brother’s best friend romance from Jennifer Van Wyk is available now!

JVW_FallingforYou_ebook

Fake it ‘til you make it has been the motto I live by since my mother died.

I’m also doing a really bad job at the making it part.

The night we met, I was at my lowest.

But you gave me a reason to feel happy again.

For the first time in over a year, I feel optimistic.

You and I? We’re the same.

Don’t form attachments. Follow the rules. Don’t dream of a future.

Too bad our hearts wouldn’t listen.

And this storm we’re going through?

The one that threatens to rip us apart?

It doesn’t care that I’m falling for you.

Falling For You is a different kind of brother’s best friend romance and is as emotional

as it is sizzling.

Add a heading (4)

Super cute story!!

It was always just Chloe and her mom, no other family to depend on. When Chloe’s mom passed away, she was feeling a little more alone in the world. Even though she found out she had a half brother right before her mom died, she didn’t know how to reach out. But she met a stranger one night in a bar who would change everything for her.

Rex’s parents and brother were horrible to him and after trying and failing at love, Rex didn’t do attachments any more. But one night at the bar where he worked, he saw a distraught, yet beautiful woman who he felt drawn to help.

Will Rex and Chloe learn how to trust in love again?

This story is full of the feels and I loved it! Rex and Chloe are perfect together! Their personalities complimented each other so much and there was plenty of chemistry between them. It was super sweet how they spent time getting to know each other before moving forward in their relationship. Most of the characters in this book are very likeable and I am definitely looking forward to more from this author.

Excerpt:

“Rex?”

“Hmm?”

He won’t look at me. His grip on the steering wheel so tight his knuckles are turning white. He swallows so hard I can hear the gulp from where I’m sitting next to him.

When I lay a hand on his forearm he almost jumps out of his seat.

“You okay?”

“Fine,” he croaks.

“You don’t sound fine.”

I almost start giggling because if I’m reading the situation correctly, he’s nervous about having sex with me. Or, maybe, just what my intentions are. Rex, the sexy bartender that every single female in town lusts over and many have slept with — which I refuse to think about — is hesitating.

I know he wants to.

His body language, actions and words have told me as much.

When he kisses me, it’s real. It sounds simple, because it is. I’ve kissed other men. He’s kissed other women. But it’s never been like this for me. And I know it’s never been like this for him, either.

I know that might make me sound arrogant or overconfident, but I’m not clueless. Nor am I insecure. His feelings toward me are obvious, he’s not hiding it in any way, and unless he’s the most devious person in the world, I think he’s just as turned on by my presence as I am with his. Which is at holy shit levels, if I’m being honest.

I’m in a dang near constant state of arousal around him.

We pull into my driveway and he cuts the engine. His left leg is propped against the door and aside from the constant tapping of his thumb against the steering wheel, he’s the picture of relaxation.

“Just gonna sit out here all night?” I ask, already sensing his hesitation to come inside. I can also see how badly he’s battling with himself right now.

To sex her.

Or not to sex her.

I think we’re on the same page here, though.

It’s just going to be fun messing with him a little bit.

He’s made it very clear that his past relationships have either ended horribly, by way of his brother, the ass, or by the night being over with.

He’s also hinted he would like to see where this thing between us is going to go.

For that to happen, we need to not have sex. At least not yet. Even though every molecule in my body is currently firing and screaming at me to HAVE SEX WITH THIS SEXY AS FUCK GUY ALREADY.

Okay, so maybe I’m not as secure in my decision as I thought but hey, I know he isn’t either.

I open my door and step down.

“Come on, you big baby. I don’t bite.” Then before I close the door I pop my head back through the opening, “Unless you want me to.” I slam the door and run up the few stairs to my front door, quickly unlock it, and rush inside.

I count to five and he’s already charging in after me.

“You think you’re so funny, don’t you? Teasing me like this?”

“Whatever do you mean?”

“I’m in your head, gorgeous. I know what you’re thinking.”

by RC Boldt is LIVE!

Choose Me, RC Boldt cover 1.jpg

Wearing the nicest suit I own, I stand in the very back with a flask full of whiskey in my inner pocket. I put on a brave face as I watch her walk down the aisle.

Because it’s too late.

I refuse to be the bastard who makes her cry on her wedding day, but I’m dying to tell her what I’ve always known. She’s my best friend, but she doesn’t realize she owns my f*cking heart and soul, too.

Each step down that aisle takes her farther away from me and brings her closer to him, forcing me to face the truth: I’ve fallen in love with someone who can’t be mine. If she’d just turn around, maybe she’d realize I love her more than he ever could.

I won’t ruin her perfect day, but my broken heart begs me to try and convince her.

Choose me.

Danielle's Review

L-O-V-E-D this book!! If you love friends to lovers romance, this is a definite must read!!
Magnolia and Hollis meet as young children when Hollis and his parents move into the home behind Magnolia’s. Hollis and his father are building a treehouse when Magnolia comes over offering refreshments and asking to help. From there, the two become friends that will grow through the years. The story offers enough backstory of Hollis and Magnolia to get the full picture of their friendship over the years and the reasons why things have never progressed from friendship to more until now. Once Hollis makes his feelings known, what choice will Magnolia make for her future?
I loved these two and my heart broke for the things they both endured during their childhood and early adulthood. I don’t think I have ever cheered more for a couple to get their HEA as this one. I loved the roller coaster of emotions I experienced during this story and was sad when the story ended. This is definitely one I can picture as a movie on the big screen. Fantastic read that I highly recommend!

Excerpt:

“Hollis?”

I startle at the male voice calling my name. When I turn, I find a guy about my height wearing a button-down shirt beneath a sport coat and a pair of pressed slacks. He regards me with a mixture of surprise and recognition while I have no idea who the hell he is. He steps closer with a smile.

“Sorry to catch you off guard,” he apologizes and holds out his hand to me. “Grant Stevenson.”

I shake his hand warily. “Hollis Barnes.” I pause before adding, “But somehow, you already knew that.”

He grins, and if I’m being completely honest, I don’t detect any douchebag vibes. “I recognized you from one of the photos Magnolia has in her room of the two of you.”

It takes all my control to suppress the jolt that zigzags through me at his words. She still keeps a photo of us?

His eyes crinkle at the corners, and he lifts his chin to gesture to me. “Although I have to be honest, the ink and beard initially threw me off.”

A surprised laugh escapes me, and I slide my hands into my pockets.

Grant steps closer and glances around before lowering his voice. “I’m actually glad you’re here. I know you and Magnolia haven’t seen one another in a while, but you’re her oldest friend…”

Oldest friend. Not best friend. I don’t miss the phrasing. Although I don’t feel it’s intentional, it cuts deep just the same.

“I’m nervous as hell, and I’m hopin’ you can tell me if she’d like this.”

It takes me a moment to realize what he’s pulled out of his pocket.

A velvet ring box and a packet of Pop Rocks.

Fuck, fuck, fuck.

I resist the urge to rub at the center of my chest, where searing pain radiates.

He flicks open the box to reveal a ring with a large diamond that’s fancy as hell. Something Mrs. Barton would love and deem appropriate. But Magnolia? Hell no.

“Her mom helped me pick it out.”

Exactly.

“And I know she loves Pop Rocks since she always has a pack.”

Not the strawberry flavor.

But he’s trying. I can see the nervousness in his expression. The hope. The excitement.

I can’t crush this guy. He’s exactly what her parents have always wanted for her. The kind of guy who doesn’t get his hands dirty. The one with money and connections.

The one who can give her the future her parents expect her to have. The one who won’t come home with rough hands, callused to hell and back from working on a project that’s for a high-end client or due to be auctioned off to a car collector with more money than they know what to do with.

The man who wears button-downs like they’re second skin. Designer clothes.

So caught up in my thoughts, I don’t immediately realize that he’s pocketed the items and is gazing in another direction. When I turn and follow his focus, catching sight of her weaving through the crowd, I take advantage of the moment and let my eyes drink her in. She’s…so goddamn beautiful.

Her long blond hair spills down her back, and even beneath the shapeless graduation gown, her sleek, tanned legs peek out from the bottom hem, her heels accentuating her toned calf muscles.

When she catches sight of Grant, her entire face lights up, and…goddammit.

I can’t do this. This was a fucking mistake. It’s like someone’s performing open heart surgery and just cracked my chest open without anesthesia.

A Five-Minute Life, an all-new standalone new adult romance by International bestselling author Emma Scott.

Thea Hughes has five minutes to live.

A car accident stole her parents and left her with the second-worst documented case of amnesia in the world. The once effervescent artist with a promising future is reduced to scribbling with pens and paper, living an empty, quiet life, three hundred seconds at a time.

Jim Whelan is on autopilot.

A foster kid shuffled around the system since birth, he’s lived his entire life without knowing love…and it’s taken its toll—until he learned to fight back, carry his armor, and keep his head down.

Working as an orderly in the Blue Ridge Sanitarium, deep in Virginia countryside, Jim looked up…and found Thea.

When Thea has the chance to break free of her five-minute prison with a risky, experimental surgery, it could lead them both to an epic love they never thought possible… or one that could require the ultimate sacrifice.

A stand-alone, new adult romance.

Danielle’s Review

5 STARS

Absolutely beautiful story!!

Thea has a bright future ahead of her as a young art student who is on the cusp of fulfilling her dreams. That all changes in the blink of an eye when she is involved in a head-on collision that kills her parents instantly and leaves her with the second-worst case of amnesia. Every five minutes, her mind resets and she has no recollection of what she was doing or saying right before. She has very little memory of her past, other than her sister and that something is wrong with her that the doctors are working on. Thea has spent the last 2 years at Blue Ridge Sanitarium as a shell of the woman she once was.

Jim has never had a family to call his own. He grew up bouncing from foster home to foster home, some worse than others. Due to the trauma he endured, he has a stutter that comes out when stressed or nervous, which only serves to make him feel more worthless. Jim doesn’t like to talk much to others, he prefers to live in isolation and wants a job where he can stay mostly to himself. He finds a job as an Orderly at Blue Ridge Sanitarium working with patients who have suffered a brain injury. Little does Jim know, that this job is no ordinary job and will change his life in the most extraordinary ways.

When Jim meets Thea, he knows there is more to her than what he sees. He believes that she is trying to communicate through the drawings she does and feels a soul deep connection every time he talks with her. Can Jim help to unlock Thea’s memory and bring her back to life or will 5 minutes be all they ever share?

This story was sometimes so heartbreaking, it was difficult to continue. Other times, it was so enthralling there was no way to put it down. This is the first book I have read by Emma Scott but certainly won’t be my last. I loved Thea and Jim and the journey they shared! This story is the kind to not leave your mind or heart for days afterward. I highly recommend this book!

Excerpt:

“Marc Antony,” I said and nodded at her drawing. “Part of your Egyptian studies?”

Thea leaned her cheek on her folded hands like she was warming herself before a fire. “Marc Antony is part of the romance. A love story with Cleopatra. He went to war for her. Died for her. When they told her he was dead, she put her hand in a basket with an asp. Can you imagine? Loving someone so much that the thought of life without them is too unbearable?”

“No,” I said. “I can’t.”

Her gaze dropped to my hand on the table and her fingers reached to trace the scars on my knuckles.

These tell a story, don’t they?” She traced one of the fine lines. “You put your hand in with the snakes, too.”

I nodded slowly, savoring the feel of her warm skin on mine. “So the bullies would leave me alone.”

“And did they?”

“Eventually.”

“I’m glad.” She put her hand in mine completely, her fingers wrapping around and holding tight. “I’m being too… something. Personal. Delia would throw a fit, but I feel like…”

“Like what, Thea?”

“Like I have to hold on to this moment, you know? Or you… I don’t even know you and yet I don’t want to stop talking to you.” Her hand squeezed mine. “I don’t care if you have a stutter, but please keep talking to me, Jimmy. Okay?”

My mouth went dry at the nameless desperation in her eyes.

Jesus, does she know she’s trapped? She can’t. Impossible…

“I won’t,” I said. “I’ll talk to you every day. I promise.”

Thea breathed a small sigh of relief and released my hand. “Thank you, Jimmy. That makes me feel better.”

With a final smile—a parting smile, I realized—she took up her pen and then froze.

She’s resetting.

Confusion passed over her features. She looked up at me, flinching a little to see a big man in close proximity. I instantly leaned back to give her space.

“How long has it been?” she asked.

“Two years,” I said, my voice hardly more than a whisper. “But the doctors are working on your case.”

“Yes, they are.” She smiled hesitantly and found my nametag. “I’m Thea Hughes.”

Seven. Seven times now.

“Jim Whelan,” I said.

She offered her hand. Again. I took it robotically, enduring her one-pump shake. Again. Her fingers didn’t linger in mine but released immediately, the way you do with a stranger. Again.

“Nice to meet you, Jim Whelan.”

Fuck. I can’t do this.

I rose to my feet. “I have to get to work.”

Her face fell. “Oh. Bummer. Will I see you again?”

I could promise her I would, but she wouldn’t remember. There was no promise. I could tell her the sky was falling or my name was Abraham Lincoln and she wouldn’t know the damn difference. It’d vanish, like every other word we’d ever spoken to each other. I vanished every time her reset hit and was recreated over again in Thea’s eyes. I could be whatever I wanted; whomever I wanted. And yet she was the one woman I might’ve had a chance to be myself with.

The terrible irony of it was like copper in my mouth.

“Sure, Miss Hughes,” I said. “I’ll see you tomorrow.”
