AP new - synopsis.jpg

Second chances are for kids, diets, and shelter pets—not for relationships. Especially not one like Chase and Emma’s.

Before he was writing chart-topping hits and smashing record sales, Chase Lawson was Emma’s childhood friend and first love. They promised each other forever, but forever expired at eighteen, when he landed a major record deal and left Emma and their hometown behind.

Ten years later, he shows up at their high school reunion with a proposition she can’t refuse. Six months. Seven figures. He gets a chance to clean up his reputation, and she gets the means to restore the old family farmhouse. It’s only for show—hold hands in public, kiss for the cameras—but boundaries blur behind closed doors.

It isn’t long before Emma feels her resolve slipping, crushed by the shadow of the boy she grew to love in the man selling out stadiums of present. Can Emma resist one of the most irresistible bachelors in the world? Or will she fall for the same man twice?

A sweet second chance romance. Chase and Emma were high school sweethearts, in love until the day he left for a record deal and didn’t look back for 10 long years. Chase shows up at the high school reunion with an offer for Emma that is too good to pass up. She desperately needs the money for her family’s farm and will keep her heart out of the equation this time around. But can Emma really spend 6 months with Chase and not remember the way she felt in his arms? When lines get blurred between fake and reality, will Emma once again be left heartbroken and alone?
I enjoyed the story and liked Chase and Emma. I love second chance stories and this one definitely fit the bill. However, there were a few things that were a little hard to swallow that kept me from loving this story. Plus I feel like the story ended a bit abruptly. I’m a big fan of Nicole Williams so I will certainly continue to read her books and this was overall a good book.

“We’ve got to go over something first,” he said, smirking at my efforts to budge his arm.
“What?” I asked, annoyed.
“We’re going to be a couple in the public’s eyes. Which means we’re going to have to do certain things that couples do.”
I blinked at him. “Couples don’t do that in public. At least not the normal ones.”
He gave a grunt of disbelief. “I’m not talking about sex.”
“Then what are you talking about?” My voice was rising the more flustered I became. The lack of apparel, the warm water, the way Chase’s brown eyes seemed to melt when he looked at me a certain way . . . I was struggling to keep my composure.
“Kissing.” He shrugged as though it were obvious. “We’ve had ten years to get rusty. We don’t want to look like a couple of fumbling amateurs when we kiss in public for the first time.”
My mouth fell open a little as I tried to determine if he was serious. “Kissing is like riding a bike. We don’t need to practice to get it right.”
The corners of Chase’s eyes creased. “It’s more like riding a unicycle. Once you figure it out, with enough consistency, no problem. But if you go a decade without climbing on that unicycle, you’re starting right back at square one.”
I had to bite the inside of my cheek to keep from laughing. “You’re comparing kissing to a unicycle. You’re just as romantic as I remember.”
Chase treaded closer until my legs were brushing against his with each kick. “Come on. One kiss. Practice makes perfect.” His arms drew in, entombing me in his presence. One brow carved into his forehead. “That is, unless you’re scared to kiss me in private, half-naked in a swimming pool, because you still harbor some kind of feelings for me . . .”
I shoved his chest as a snap reaction, realizing too late that I should not touch him when he was this close, when I was this conflicted. “Fame has really gone to your head.”
His shoulders rose above the water before dipping below again. “So? Prove me wrong.”
“Fine.” The word materialized on its own. “But if you even try slipping me tongue, my knee is winding up in your groin.”
He wet his lips, fighting a smile. “When have I ever complained about any part of you nestling down there?”
My hands balled at my sides as I attempted to approach this whole thing like a science experiment. Objectively. Neutrally. Emotionlessly. “Just kiss me and get it over with.”
His smile quirked. “Once you’re finished whispering sweet nothings into my ear.”
When I tried to push him away, his hands circled my wrists. Chase’s eyes found mine, the color of his irises nearly indistinguishable from his pupils. My chest moved quickly when he swam closer, his head angling as his lips aligned with mine.
He hadn’t even kissed me and I’d lost all sense of direction. Up was as good as down in my present state. His breath fanned across my lips as he waited, perfectly at ease having me trapped in the corner of his pool, our mouths a sliver of air apart.
His grip on my wrists relaxed right before his mouth finally connected with mine. My body froze the instant he kissed me, but it didn’t last long, seeming to melt one piece at a time.
I didn’t realize I was sinking until Chase’s arm cinched around me, pulling my shoulders back above the water, his mouth not missing a beat. The last piece of me to unthaw was my lips, but the moment they did, they matched his urgency. My arms wound behind his neck as I drew closer, our bodies tangling beneath the water as he kissed me in a way I hadn’t been kissed in years; in the kind of way that made a girl feel delicate and invincible at the same time.
Chase treaded water, holding us both above the surface, the planes of his chest rising to meet mine with our uneven breaths. Before I knew it, our tongues were tying together, though it wasn’t him who’d broken that rule first. His chest rumbled against mine as my mouth and hands grew more feverish, no longer under the constraint of my better judgment.
Kissing Chase was exactly as I remembered, yet totally different. The scrape of his calloused fingers against my skin felt the same, yet there was a newfound strength to it. His full lips moved with mine in a dance we’d mastered years ago, but there was a resolve I’d never tasted so deeply before. The way he held me was exactly the same, though the contours of his body had changed.
When my chest was hammering from breathlessness, Chase broke the kiss, managing to evade my ensuing advances. His eyes remained closed for a minute, droplets of water winding down his face from where my hands had been.
When his eyes finally opened, the look in them made my head dizzy, even as I reminded myself this had been a practice kiss. Nothing more.
“How was that?” he asked.
I had to look away in order to make my answer seem convincing. My shoulder lifted out of the water as I shaped my most detached expression. “You were right. Like riding a unicycle.”
“No, you were right.” Chase’s hand drifted up my back, his rough fingertips somehow soft against my skin. “Kissing you is like riding a bicycle.”

BEAUTIFUL STORY!!! I fell in love with this cover as soon as I saw the Paul Walker look-alike and then I fell even deeper in love with the story!!

Bodhi and Henna meet at Coachella and spend an amazing weekend together. The chemistry between them is off the charts and they agree to a temporary fling. Throughout their time together, they know they feel something deeper than just a fling but their timing is off so they take what they can get.

When their paths collide again, the timing is still off but the feelings between Bodhi and Henna are still as strong as ever. Are these two always destined for heartbreak or will they be able to find their HEA together?

Bodhi and Henna are opposites but their feelings for each other is so palpable and real. It was easy to love them both!! This book contains some of my favorite tropes, forbidden love and second chances. Jewel E. Ann is such a powerful writer. I can always expect her to hit me right in the feels with every story and I am addicted to it! She is so talented with her words and the topics she addresses are sometimes heartbreaking but she deals with them with nothing but grace.

Excerpt:

“Let’s eat before we leave. I’m sure there’s quite the spread downstairs.”

“Rich people breakfast?” I ask.

She furrows a brow for a few seconds. “Yes. I suppose so.” Rolling away, she swings her legs around and stands up, stretching like a cat.

“Do you eat rich people breakfast every morning?” My curiosity has been piqued.

After a long yawn, she cocks her head to the side, lips slightly twisted. “Shredded Wheat with cut-up banana and almond milk. Is that a rich person’s breakfast?”

I sit up, doing a bit of my own stretching, loving the way her gaze roams along my bare chest, her lips parting ever so slightly. “No. I think that’s a solid middle-class breakfast.”

“Middle. That’s average. Average is good, right?”

“There’s nothing average about you, Henna.” I stand, following her into the bedroom.

“I’m going to shower quickly, and by quickly I mean I need an hour. Do you have an hour?”

“To shower with you?” I try to play it cool, like I’m serious.

I’m a little serious.

The color leaves her face. “Oh, um …” She twists her fingers together, drawing her shoulders inward.

“I’m kidding.”

A little kidding.

Henna’s posture relaxes as her cheeks pink up again. “We could.” Her gaze darts around the room before landing on mine for two seconds only to wander around the room again.

“My clothes are at my hotel. I’ll shower there. I need to get going.”

A slow sigh deflates her chest as she tries on a smile that misses the confident mark by a few centimeters. “Okay.”

“But thanks for the offer.” I wink.

More color paints her cheeks, and it looks stunning on her. “I kinda sorta thought we’d have sex last night, but we didn’t, and that’s fine, but now I don’t know what comes next.”

Does that make me the world’s biggest idiot for not taking what she was planning on offering? Or does that make me a gentleman? I’ve already fucked her a hundred different ways in my head, so I’m going to shy away from the gentleman label.

“How about you put my number in your phone and I’ll call you later today? That feels like a good next, don’t you think?”

Henna nods and turns, walking toward the bedroom door. Digging through her purse, she retrieves her phone. When she pulls it out, a string of three condoms comes out with it. “Oh jeez.” Quickly snatching them off the floor, she shoves them back into her purse.

I don’t respond because I’m not sure what the correct response should be.

“I was conceived at Coachella.” She hands me her phone with the contact screen open, ready for my information.

Taking her phone, I give her an expectant look, but she withholds all elaboration.

“And by conceived, you mean physical conception, not merely an idea kind of conception?” I hand her phone back and give her mine.

“In the shadows behind a stage. I know more details than most people should actually know about the moment they were conceived.” She lifts a shoulder in a small shrug. “But Juni is my best friend. She’s the absolute coolest mom ever, and the story of how she met my dad is my favorite story ever.”

I nod as she keeps her chin tipped toward the screen to my phone. “Why is that?” I take my phone back when she holds it out to me.

“Yin Yang. Opposites. Laws of the universe.” She wears a satisfied smile. “My parents were temporary. I was permanent.” Holding out her arms, she inspects her henna tattoos as if seeing them for the first time. “My mom had henna tattoos on her body when she met my dad. Henna grows in intensity over a few days before fading to nothing. It’s magical and beautiful and then it’s gone. My parents say that about their love for each other. It grew quickly into something deep and intense, but over time it faded. Their love—like most everything in life—was temporary.”

“We’re temporary.”

Her empty stare shifts to meet my gaze and she nods. “Don’t sweat it. Everything is temporary. But today…” she walks into my chest, and my arms wrap around her as she looks up at me “…we should be at our brightest, our most intense.”

The long-awaited reunion between Twitch and Lexi is finally here and it was well worth the wait!!!

Twitch has been “dead” for 6 years and he is tired of waiting to be with Lexi and his son, AJ. Luckily the time has come for him to be reunited with his angel.
“I’d found my religion. Lexi was my bible, and with her mercy, I would be reborn.”
Lexi can’t believe Twitch is back. She is upset that he survived but “chose” to stay away for so long and several people she trusted kept this huge secret from her. But how long can she deny what her heart has wanted for 6 long years, especially when they share a son?
This book was everything I had hoped it would be! Twitch was still the same anti-hero that I remembered and loved and I loved him and Lexi being back together as they should be. I loved getting to reconnect with the secondary characters that I loved as well as a few new ones. Overall a great story that had me hooked from the start. I recommend this book to everyone who fell in love with Twitch years ago!

Another must read from Prescott Lane!

Jax had a pact with his best guy friends, the main part of the pact was that they would never let a girl come between them so if one liked a girl, she was off limits to the other friends. This rule meant that when his best friend said he was in love with Skylar, a female friend of theirs, Jax had to back off even though he was in love with her, too. Now, as an adult, Jax has written “The Gentleman’s Handbook” full of gentleman rules to follow.

Skylar thought Luke was The One and has been with him for 10 years. But when there is still no proposal after all this time, she figures it is time to cut her losses and move on. She goes home to visit and lick her wounds and reconnects with Jax, her longtime childhood friend. Skylar had a crush on Jax years ago but figured he never felt the same. She is shocked to learn that he has always loved her.

Can these two break the rules and find happiness together?

I loved Jax and Skylar’s story! They had such great chemistry and I loved getting both of their POV. This story was a perfect holiday romance – lots of sweetness without a lot of angst. Prescott Lane always pulls me right into each story and this one is no different. Highly recommended to put you right in the holiday spirit!

Excerpt:

“Thou shalt not covet thy neighbor’s wife.”

Otherwise known as the original bros before hoes commandment.

I’m not advocating calling women hoes. It’s an expression, so put away your Encyclopedia of Political Correctness.

There are rules in life. The Ten Commandments were just the beginning. We have rules for everything. How to drive. How to dress. How to walk across the damn street. So why not rules for love? That’s how all this started — a set of rules between my buddies and me.

The Bro Code.

Obviously, bros before hoes is rule one. We vowed never to let a girl come between us, which meant if one of us liked a girl, she was forever off limits.

Little did I know our teenage pact would launch my multi-million dollar career. A little tweaking here and some socially acceptable rewording there and The Gentleman’s Handbook was born.

I’ve written books and given seminars on everything from how to find love, to how to propose, to how to have a successful long-distance relationship. You name it, and I’ve got rules for it. Personally, I’ve never been much of a rule follower, but that’s my little secret.

The funny thing is I’ve never been in love. Well, there is this one girl, but we won’t talk about her. It does no good to think about someone you can’t have and never will.

My lack of emotional commitment hasn’t slowed down my career one bit. Currently, I have two books on the New York Times Best Sellers List. My seminars sell out like a Drake concert.

I always find it interesting that the rules started between a group of male friends, but it’s mostly women that come to hear me speak. Occasionally, you see the poor sap boyfriend who was dragged along to listen, but for the most part it’s all women.

This time of the year is no exception. December first until January first is important for guys. Holidays are big for a lot of couples. If you don’t know what you’re doing for your lady, you better figure it out and fast. In fact, my rule is that you should be paying attention all year long.

Trust me on this. If you remember something she mentioned she liked three months ago and surprise her with it at Christmas, she’ll spread her legs before Santa even has time to slide down the chimney. Let’s be honest, that is always at least part of the goal for guys.

So my current work in progress tackles Christmas. A how-to guide for the holidays.

The Gentleman’s Rules for Christmas.

Max and Harlow meet at a mutual friend’s wedding and the sparks fly instantly. They have a one-night stand never expecting to see each other again. Fast forward a year and these two are suddenly back in each other’s lives. The connection is still the same but Harlow is scared to open herself up to Max and possible heartbreak. Harlow can’t ignore the chemistry between her and Max but is it just sex or is there something deeper between them? Can Max convince Harlow to give him a chance?

This story had it all – sweet, heartwarming moments and swoony, hot and sexy times between Max and Harlow. Max is the perfect alpha male and I loved that Harlow was a strong female character. I loved how this book is set in a small town in Alaska and all the small town feels of the community. This is not the first book in this series, but can be read as a standalone.  I really enjoyed the author’s writing style and will continue to check out other books by her.

A shattered woman.

A changed man.

Church Logan wanted to kill someone, and Emma Hartley wanted to die – they were a match made in hell.

But one little cut, a pint or two of blood, and suddenly everything between them is different.

Are they still destined for greatness? Or has the darkness finally eclipsed them and torn them apart?

Looks like it’s time for Church to practice what he preaches.

Ignition, meet explosion.

Warning: if you have triggers – this story will touch on a lot of them. This book is a dark romance, 65,000+ words.

Danielle’s Review

4 Stars

Preach is the second half of the Church duet. It cannot be read as a standalone.

Emma Hartley has nearly died as a result of the years of torment she has been through. She is getting help and trying to become “normal” but she still can’t quiet the voices in her head telling her how to act and what to think. Church has abandoned her and now she must figure out her future for herself and come up with a way to finally be free of her psycho mother.

Church has let Emma believe she is alone and in control of her own destiny. But she is the first person he has ever loved and he is her protector so  when the time comes, Church is prepared to be her savior once again. Emma isn’t sure if she can trust Church anymore but he is more than ready to show her how great they are together.

“You be the thunder, and I’ll be the lightning.
You be the cloud, and I’ll be the rain.”
“Forces of nature.”
“Of destruction.”

This is more than just a dark read, it’s a psychological thriller full of twists and turns. This book is told in dual POV which is my favorite to read and was especially great with this story to be in the head of both of these f’ed up people. I wish that there could have been a little more of an ending but I did really enjoy this story. Stylo Fantome is a talented author and I will definitely check out other stories by her.

Crazy woman from a remote location in Alaska (where the need for a creative mind is a necessity!), I have been writing since … forever? Yeah, that sounds about right. I have been told that I remind people of Lucille Ball – I also see shades of Jennifer Saunders, and Denis Leary. So basically, I laugh a lot, I’m clumsy a lot, and I say the F-word A LOT.

I like dogs more than I like most people, and I don’t trust anyone who doesn’t drink. No, I do not live in an igloo, and no, the sun does not set for six months out of the year, there’s your Alaska lesson for the day. I have mermaid hair – both a curse and a blessing – and most of the time I talk so fast, even I can’t understand me.

Yeah. I think that about sums me up.

Cooper is deployed when he gets word of the sudden passing of his wife. He heads home to meet and care for his daughter he hadn’t gotten the chance to meet yet. Fast forward a few years and he has gotten the hang of the single parent role just fine but needs a new nanny to help out.
Lexi has just went through a horrible break-up and her childhood friend offers her a couch to crash on. She needs to find a job so she can get her own place and when the chance to be a nanny/housekeeper for her friend’s brother’s daughter, it seems like the perfect opportunity for her to get her life back on track.
Caring for Cooper’s daughter puts Lexi in close proximity to Cooper and it isn’t long before they feel a connection to each other blooming. Are they willing to take another chance on love or is the past too painful to overcome?
I loved the main characters in this book. Bella, Cooper’s daughter, is absolutely adorable and the relationship she has with Lexi and Cooper is heart-melting. I really enjoyed getting both Cooper and Lexi’s POV in the story. The story flowed very well without a lot of angst. My first read by this author and I will definitely check her out in the future.
