The cruel hand of death is the only answer when doom takes over.
I don’t know if I’ll survive.
Or if death will bury me along with the sins of my father.

Merciless Union is a dark mafia arranged marriage romance. It contains dubious situations, mature content, and graphic violence some readers might find offensive and/or triggering.

New Review: The Beast of Boston by JL Mac

Title: The Beast of Boston
Author: JL Mac
Genre: Mob Romance (Dark)
Release Date: May 19, 2020
Cover Design: Robin Harper, Wicked by Design

“This is Beast. Beast is the size of a Volkswagen and has an impossible amount of buds and blooms. Beast also has thorns. But if you can sneak close enough to catch a whiff, and avoid the gnarly thorns, you’ll be ruined for all the other roses for the rest of your life. The sweetest, most addictive scent amongst the thorns.”

That’s what mom told my little sister and I once. She led us close enough to look but no further as she spoke of her favorite rosebush that she had affectionately named Beast.

That was a long time ago.

These days I know another Beast. A different kind of wild, untamed thing. He too is dangerous to get too close to. It’s unfortunate that I can’t afford to care, not when he’s the key to finding my sister.

They called him The Beast of Boston when he was a professional boxer. Now he rules over a bunch of criminals—the same criminals I hope will lead to my sister. I won’t stop until she’s found. I’ll get as close to Beast as it takes, gnarly thorns and all.

The problem is I’m so busy worrying for my own physical safety that I never considered how my heart would behave. Mom was right about one thing: I am ruined for all the roses for the rest of my life and it’s much too late to change it now.

Christie’s Review

5 STARS

A Top Read of 2020

OMG!!! LOVED this book! It is one of my top 10 reads of 2020. JL Mac completely pulled me into The Beast’s dark underworld. I was mesmerized!!!!

As you might imagine, there are elements of the fairytale, Beauty and the Beast, but this is nothing like the Disney movie. The beast in this version is much scarier. He is ruthless and intimidating. Beauty isn’t the shy little bookworm either. She is strong and can be pretty intimidating herself and has a taste for vengeance.

Ena’s sister, Lan, has gone missing. She has every intention of bringing her home no matter the personal cost to herself. That is how she finds herself lying to her mother and applying for a job as an exotic dancer at the club, Eden, which is run by The Beast of Boston. He is second in command to Orin McCrae, one of the most notorious crime bosses in the country. She is sure there is a connection.

Can I just say that Ena is my hero? This woman is incredible. At her first meeting with him, she is mentally shaking in her boots. However, she never gives anything away. She learned to do this the hard way. Her childhood was tragic until she became part of a wonderful family who showed her what love was, yet she couldn’t completely shed all that trauma she experienced. That comes in handy when dealing with Beast. She has prepared for every instance except the attraction she has for him. As time passes, she will have to face the battle between her mind and her heart because they are telling her two very different things.

Oh, Beast, who knew a monster could so sexy and appealing?

“How funny that this monster–this Beast of Boston–is also gargantuan and happens to sport one lifelike red rose of his one. He too has thorns, just not the type you can see. His are hidden, and they’re that much more dangerous for it. He’s a pretty monster. That’s not quite accurate though. He’s not pretty. He’s beautiful.”

He is such a complex and tormented human. Mac did such a magnificent job of peeling back his layers. She does this through the chapters that are told from his point of view. I saw the ruthlessness and the need to punish those that wronged him. However, I also saw glimpses of tenderness and loyalty. He had very few people he was really close to and trusted, but if you were lucky enough to have him in your corner, you had nothing to fear from him, except his overprotectiveness. That was kind of endearing!

The chemistry between these two both inside and outside of the bedroom was INTENSE!!!! Both were so stubborn and neither would give in easily. Two people were never better matched!!

The romance and suspense were blended together flawlessly. I’m not sure what kept me flying through the pages more…would these two finally give into their desire, or what other twist and secret did Mac have in store for me.

I cannot leave this review without expressing how much I LOVE Mac’s writing. Yes, this is a dark read, but her writing is beautiful, I would almost say magical. It really connected me on an emotional level.

“Ignoring her disappearance, not bringing up her existence? Are we both too cowardice to stir the sediment of the shipwreck, knowing the murk would blind both of us from finding our way back to the surface?”

In this passage, it clearly illustrates the devastating pain Ena and her mother feel about Lan’s disappearance. It was just beautiful!!!! I also loved Mac’s story of how she came up with the idea of this book. It began with a rosebush, and she turned it into such a beautiful and emotional read!!!!

EXCERPT:

I tried not to judge.

It was hard.

They were mafia bosses—I got it.

Or at least I thought I understood it since I had grown up around it. But my upbringing wasn’t as severe. My dad was a Nicolasi and always kept things quiet around us. It wasn’t until I was twelve that I realized it wasn’t normal for us to make as much money as we did through two jewelry stores and five laundromats.

I wrongly assumed that every business owner with a lot of cash drove a bulletproof Mercedes to protect their family. The older I got, the more horrified I became of the life my father lived, the life he forced us to live, and the complete unrest I felt every time I closed my eyes and prayed for him to come home.

He was a made man.

One of the best in the family, which meant Phoenix trusted him, which in turn meant he trusted me to watch his little boy. And every time Phoenix looked at his phone I wondered if it was my dad texting, if he was alive, if he was okay. He’d been gone for a month. We hadn’t heard from him except for a few “hey, I’m alive” texts.

I hated this life.

And I wanted out.

“Renee.” Nixon leaned down and touched my shoulder. “Are you okay?”

I stilled.

Remembered not to look directly into his eyes and forced a smile. “I’m just tired, you know how it is.”

“Kids do that to a person,” Phoenix piped in, finally sheathing the knives he’d apparently pulled out in the last few seconds that I’d been thinking about my dad. “We need to leave in five.”

Nixon stood.

I looked away.

I had to.

It made me sick to my stomach the blood these men had on their hands and the way they so casually talked about killing as if they were discussing the latest episode of This Is Us.

I forced a smile at Serena and Junior just as the front door swung open, nearly coming off its hinges.

There he stood.

My nightmare.

Vic Corazon Abandonato.

In all his gory glory.

Tight black pants.

Tight black shirt.

Enough guns strapped to him to win an all-out war.

And no smile.

The man never smiled. It wasn’t in his makeup to smile. The one time he smiled was at Chase, and I think it was just a happy accident because Chase looked as shocked as the rest of the group did. I glanced away, again making sure I wasn’t drawing attention to myself, and fed the kids.

Vic was a silent killer. I imagined that people didn’t even know they were dying until they saw the blood running like a river from their chests.

I shivered.

That’s what assassins for the mafia did. They weren’t made men, they weren’t in line for boss. They did the dirty work-and they took the fall for it. They had one job. Protect the family at all costs.

EFFORTLESS, A Legacy Novel

by Bethany-Kris

A Legacy Novel

Publication Date: January 15, 2018

Genres: Adult, Contemporary, Erotic, Romance, Organized Crime

BUY:

SYNOPSIS:

Camilla Donati doesn’t do relationships—it’s just not her thing. She wants a fun time, not a long time. She might be exactly what Tommaso Rossi needs to make his vacation from the responsibilities as a Capo, a break worth taking.

He didn’t expect to find a woman like her with a mind full of filth.

She didn’t expect a man who would shatter all of her rules with only a grin.

Chicago keeps calling Tommaso home, and further out of reach from the one thing he wants more than ever. Camilla’s restless heart keeps getting in the way even when it’s stuck between what is, and what could be.

This should have been easy.

It didn’t have to be messy.

Falling in love is effortless.

It’s people who make it hard.

Effortless: A Legacy Novel is a standalone contemporary erotic romance.

EXCERPT

“About the club thing—”

Camilla held up a single finger to shush her brother without saying a word. She took a long sip from the coffee he’d handed over in a to-go mug from her cupboards. The creamy, sweet drink perked her up just enough to be agreeable.

“Never talk to me before coffee, Cross. You know this.”

Her brother’s familiar brown gaze rolled upward. He navigated the city streets to head east. Breakfast at a Newport restaurant on Saturdays was a new thing their parents wanted to do ever since Cross came home from Chicago a couple of months earlier.

“How’d you get into the club?” her brother asked.

Camilla smiled slyly. “Wouldn’t you like to know?”

“Do you know the security at the door, or did someone get you a fake ID?”

“Both?”

“Cam.”

She shrugged. “Guess we’re going to pretend like you weren’t the biggest trouble making shit on the planet from the time you were thirteen, huh?”

Cross cleared his throat. “This is not about me. It’s about you. I’m … looking out for you. Yeah, that works.”

“Bullshit. I paid Zeke.”

“I knew that bastard got you a fake ID,” Cross bitched under his breath.

Her brother’s best friend was way off-limits for Camilla in any kind of way—though he was cute, and probably a good time—because the guy treated her like a little sister. A side effect of having grown up around the guy since she was born.

“Be nice. He was looking out for me since you were in Chicago and all.”

Cross nodded. “Right, by getting you into clubs.”

“Like you never used to go into clubs with Catherine Marcello when she wasn’t legal age?”

Her brother stiffened in the driver’s seat of his Porsche at the mention of his ex. Camilla half-smiled to herself, but hid it by taking another drink of coffee. The best way to get Cross off a topic of conversation was to put his ex into it.

“At least it was just August in your bed this morning.”

Camilla snorted. “I apologized for the guy, Cross.”

“He had nothing on, Camilla.”

“And the girl,” she added. “I apologized for her, too.”

That was the first time her brother found out Camilla didn’t have a preference when it came to hooking up with somebody. As long as the guy or girl was going to be a good time, she was all for it. They had to be gone by morning, or soon after—that was her deal.

Camilla didn’t do relationships. She was too young, and having too much fun being nineteen, in college, and out on her own to settle down with somebody. Any relationship she did dabble in was done almost as soon as it started.

She found boys to be like toys. Fun to look at, cool to play with, but then she quickly lost interest. Although, she had never gotten into a relationship beyond sex with a woman, she figured it would probably end up being the same.

Camilla’s interest just couldn’t be kept for longer than it took to have an orgasm … or five.

That didn’t stop people from trying, though.

“I mean,” Cross said, glancing over at his sister, “the girl definitely wasn’t too bad to look at other than the fact she tried to kill me with one of your crystals. You know, when she threw it at my fucking head.”

Camilla laughed.

So she had an active sex life. Her brother liked to pick on her about it sometimes, but he never made her feel like she was doing something wrong. He never shamed her for the choices she made, and instead, only asked if she was safe and okay.

She loved her brother for that, really.

“She thought you were breaking into my place or something,” Camilla said.

“Because we don’t look like siblings at all,” Cross replied wryly.

He was right. The two shared the dominate Donati features, but where Cross took a stronger, more masculine version, Camilla was the lighter, feminine side. He was sharp lines, and she was soft curves. She barely reached five-foot-six in heels, while he towered over six feet. Her brother smiled, and showed off cut-from-stone cheekbones, and she carried her mother’s delicate nose and petite figure.

A person couldn’t miss how much the two looked similar, though.

“Maybe she thought you were going to try to join in or something,” Camilla said. “Some people are freaky like that—the whole sibling get up, you know.”

EXCERPT

She lied, just a smidgen, to Carissa. She did plan to go see Noah but she couldn't do it in her
current state. She needed to get into the right mind set first. She needed to give herself a brain
rinse and put what they'd just done in a circle outside her space. She needed a little distance so
she could think. More than anything, she needed the peace and closeness to her grandmother that
only this place could bring her.
Gia's haven was painted in vibrant colors; shades of orange, mustard, browns, and reds
everywhere. She tilted her head up and inhaled the Moroccan Tajine blends, the fresh turmeric
and hibiscus cus. Her grandmother's panacea, lemongrass, perfumed its healing softness into the
air, welcoming her.
Camouflaged by the old, gray-brick facade, her favorite place was a gymnasium-sized room
where all scents known to man communed together. Whatever you may have wanted, no matter
how obscure, you could find at La Marketa. Even if it was a small shrub that only grew in the
farthest corner of Antarctica or as Mel's mom used to say, “Where the devil shouted three times
and no one heard him.”
Here, she forgot what she did for a living, remembered her roots, and indulged in her favorite
past-time.

Excerpt

“Hello?”

“Catherine.”

She turned to stone on the spot, unsure she had heard the caller’s voice correctly. Except she knew that she did because his voice was unmistakable. She could never quite forget the way he sounded murmuring into her ear.

“Cross,” Catherine said. “How did you get my number?”

“You’ve never changed it, babe.”

She wet her lips, and tried to ignore how damn good he sounded. Like crushed velvet and liquid gold. Silky, hot, and expensive. A cost she didn’t know if she could afford.

A cost like her heart.

“You just remembered it?” Catherine forced herself to ask.

How she kept the lingering emotion out of her tone, she didn’t know.

“I remember a lot of things,” Cross replied.

“Why are you calling me?”

“You didn’t answer my question at the restaurant yesterday.”

“What question was that?”

“I wanted you to go out with me this weekend,” he said like it was nothing at all.

“You didn’t actually ask that, Cross. You simply said it.”

“Don’t you remember what I told you years ago?”

“You said a lot of things,” Catherine muttered.

Broke her damn heart with his words, too.

“I told you that where you and I were concerned, I would tell you what I wanted, and you would either agree or not. That’s all there is to it. No games. That still stands, Catty. I’m telling you what I want.”

She let out a slow, long stream of air. She despised how a part of her was absolutely ready to agree, and meet up with Cross. If nothing else than to catch up, and see if things still felt the same when he was close. Problem was, she knew it would feel the same. How could it not, when this was the only man she had ever loved?

Catherine wasn’t ready to let something silly like old feelings and dusty memories rip her heart out again. She was not falling, crashing, and burning with Cross Donati one more time.

“Catty?” he asked.

“You know, you’re the only person I don’t mind calling me Catty.”

“I started that nickname.”

“No one knows why.”

She swore she could feel Cross’s smirk in his words when he murmured, “No one needs to.”

About Stevie J. Cole

Stevie J. Cole likes to write realistic stories with raw,

gritty characters you should hate but can’t help but to love.

She’s obsessed with rock music, loves sloths, and has an unnatural obsession

with British accents.

Her books are not recommended for the faint of heart.

About LP Lovell

Lauren Lovell is an indie author from England. She suffers

from a total lack of brain to mouth filter and is the friend you have to

explain before you introduce her to anyone, and apologise for afterwards.

She’s a self confessed shameless pervert, who may be suffering from slight peen

envy.
