I know I sound like a broken record, but Monica Murphy has struck gold again with Cam and Blair’s story!!! I fell really hard for Jo and Knox in the first book, but I fell just as equally hard for Knox’s little sister and best friend!

Blair has had a crush on Knox’s best friend, Cam, since she first met him when she was just a teenager. Now, that she has transferred to their college, she has decided to show him what a woman she has grown into and see if she can finally get his attention! As she soon discovers, she has all of his attention, but Cam “plays by the rules,” she is a forbidden fruit. Knox has threatened every team member that she is OFF LIMITS! This book is full of angst, steam, major chemistry, and tension!!!!

Murphy never disappoints in creating multi-faceted and complicated characters. Unlike Knox’s somewhat cockiness, Cam has a very quiet confidence about him in some ways. In other ways, he isn’t so confident. He has always had the desire to belong and feel loved. That is why he loves his team and his relationship with the Maguire family. He doesn’t want to lose that, so that is why he tries so hard to resist Blair. He also likes to maintain control, and of course, she completely upends all of that. He also had times where he really doubted himself.  At times, I was frustrated with him because he couldn’t see what was right in front of his face, a good woman who understood, accepted him, and loved him! 

Blair was a cutie pie! I wanted her to be my BFF! Like Camden, she wanted to have control over things happening in her life too. However, her relationship with him was full of uncertainties and that really began taking a toll on her. She was growing tired of being his secret. She had an incredible patience with him, and I’m not sure I would have left the door opened for him as long as she did, but her patience is what I loved about her. 

Thankfully, she and Cam do a great deal of maturing by the end of the book, and I really liked the people they grew into. Speaking of characters, it was wonderful seeing Knox and Jo again, as well as Natalie, Ace, and Knox and Blair’s little sister, Ruby. As Murphy does in all her books, she gave us a little taste of her upcoming book…it will be about Ace and Ruby! YAY! Monica Murphy, can I say that I really hope Natalie gets her own HEA too!!! 

Over the years, Murphy has created this wonderful, wonderful family. It never gets old, and each character is different and unique! I’m so very excited to get my hands on her next book! Playing Hard to Get is exactly why I just adore Monica Murphy!!! There hasn’t been a book by her that I haven’t absolutely fallen in love with the characters or the story itself! This one was no exception!!!

 

I fell in love with Knox and Joanna from the very beginning. Their chemistry was off the charts, giving me all the butterflies and tingles. Yet, I loved their friendship as well. As they made each other laugh, they made me laugh! I loved the build-up of their relationship. While getting to know one another, they realized the preconceived notions they had about one another weren’t necessarily accurate. Knox was more than the player that she thought he was. He had insecurities that she never thought he had, and she came to love his honesty. He learned that there was more underneath that serious exterior of hers, and they both came to not only love one another but respect each other. 

 

This was one of those books that I wanted to just fly through the pages, yet I also didn’t because I didn’t want to tell them goodbye! Yes, I loved them that much!

 

Murphy also didn’t follow the exact pattern of many romance novels. Once this couple decided to go all-in on their relationship, there wasn’t the intense angst and breakup. It was realistic even with the little insecurities and uncertainties present in many new relationships. 

 

Another thing that makes Murphy so special is how she can continue stories about the same families yet keep them fresh. I was so happy to see past couples who stole my heart years ago. 

 

I can’t wait for the next book in the series which is about Knox’s sister and his best friend. She gave us a bit of a tease, and it promises to be just as good as this one.

“And just where do you think you’re going?” a deep voice slurred from somewhere near the door. I didn’t need to look up to know who it was.

“I’m going home, Silas,” I said, fighting back the tears that were threatening to run down my face as I tried to fit too many textbooks into my backpack.

“Like fuck you are,” he said, making his way toward me.

I stood to my full height and looked at him. My heart dropped at seeing him this way. “Silas, you’re drunk.” I could smell the marijuana coming off of him in waves. “And probably high. You should call it a night.”

I didn’t know why I was trying to give him advice. I should have told him to go fuck himself and be done with it.

“I’ll call it a night if you call it one with me,” he drawled, moving in closer to me.

“Get away from me, Silas,” I said, trying to feign confidence but he just laughed.

“You don’t want that, Sky. I saw the way you looked at me. The way you looked at her. You wanted that to be you, hm?”

I didn’t think his comment warranted a response. Either that or I was too choked up to say something back. I picked up my backpack and tried to lift it onto my shoulders, but even in his inebriated state he was quick. The bag tumbled to the floor as he pushed it away and I felt my back press into the wall behind me.

“Admit it, Sky. You. Want. Me.” He was so close to me now. His lips were ghosting against my neck and his hand was pressing against my hip. 

I hated this.

I hated him.

I hated the way he made me feel.

And I hated the way he smelled like someone else’s perfume.

“I can smell her on you,” I seethed at him through grit teeth. 

He pulled back, lifting his face so that his eyes were even with mine. His fingers moved up, making me shiver on their ascent before pinching my chin. I grimaced as I wondered whether it was the hand that had, minutes before, been knuckle deep in another woman’s cunt.

“You wish it were you, don’t you?” he drawled.

“No,” I bit back, but I was a fucking liar. Truth was, I wanted Silas. I wanted him bad. And I wanted him all to myself. I didn’t want to share him. Not with some bimbo. Not with anyone. I loved the way him and I had developed our study routine. I loved that out of everyone in his life, except for maybe his mother, I knew him the best.

He had hot edges and a frozen center, but at least I knew all the secrets he kept hidden there were for me and me alone. But I didn’t know how to say any of this. Worse than that, I didn’t know how to admit any of this. I hated and wanted him at the same time. He said I was a contradiction but that was only because he tore me in two.

“Why is the elevator so slow?” she mutters.

“Tell me three things you’re grateful for,” I say.  

She does a double take. “Is this where I’m like your…pet project? Don’t feel sorry for me.”

Rainbow, sorry is the last thing I feel for you. 

I want you under me. 

Deep and hard.

“How are things with Donovan?” I ask.

Her throat bobs. “I-I can’t talk to you about him. I mean, yeah, um, it…doesn’t feel right, you know, to him.” 

Right. He’s her boyfriend and my frat brother.

The door opens and she slips out, her arm brushing against my chest. I follow, sucking down the electricity between us. 

She blows out a breath. “I know what this is, why you’re being nice to me—”

Corrupt My Mind is a spin-off of the North Haven University series, and I LOVED that series. So, you can imagine my delight when I found out she was doing this series. She did not disappoint!!!!!

Zayn is best friends with Easton, and these two share a much deeper friendship than most people do. They have seen each other at their best and at their worst. So, Zayn would never do anything to betray that trust, that is until the temptation of Easton’s sister, Amelia. She comes home, and she is NOT the little girl he remembers.  He does everything possible to resist her, but it gets harder every time he sees her. When danger surrounds her, he will do everything in his power to keep her safe all while facing his feelings for her. 

The book is told in both  Zayn and Amelia’s voices which gives readers a deeper insight into their minds. Zayn thinks he doesn’t deserve the good things in life, especially Amelia’s love. But, my gosh, he has the biggest heart EVER. He is loyal, and that loyalty is illustrated through his relationship with Easton. No one could ask for a better friend than Zayn. He deserves everything good in life, and he definitely deserves Amelia. 

Amelia is everything a heroine should be…strong, independent, and like, Zayn, very loyal to those she loves. Both Zayn and Easton underestimate this girl’s strength. She can also be stubborn, but who could blame her with the way her feelings are jerked around by Zayn. However, he was protecting himself from the hurt of possibly losing her. When the two are together, they make a formidable team!

The chemistry was off the charts. Clayton did a great job of building it slowly, so readers are able to savor it! The angst that is present in the story isn’t just added for effect. It really drives the direction the story is going in. 

This book has everything that makes Kelsey Clayton so phenomenal…sexual chemistry, romance, and a hint of suspense. All those things make me fly through the pages, not coming up for air until I’m finished with the last page. As always, she gives us just a hint about the characters she will introduce us to in the next book!!!! Of course, I can’t wait until I get my hands on it!!!!!

Kelsey Clayton has done it yet again!!!! This is another winning read for me!!!!

 

I finally got Lennon’s story. I just love this girl. She is passionate, loyal, sweet, and smart. She will have to call on all of her strengths when she meets Cade. They have one chance encounter that sets up perfectly how their road to happiness will be…angst, anger, passion, and finally love! These two are like oil and water. Not only that, Cade’s mother is her father’s new girlfriend. If her father’s new relationship status isn’t surprise enough, just wait until she discovers that Cade, his sister, and their mother are all moving in with them. Yes. things are changing for Lennon!

 

“His last name may be Knight, but he’s far from dressed in shining armor and he’s definitely not her to save me.” ~Lennon~

 

Lennon learns right from the start that she and Cade will not ever be friends. He’s rude and insulting, making judgments about her just because of her father’s wealth. Because of his attitude, she assumes some things about him that might not necessarily be true. It is going to take a lot of time and energy for them to get past these first assumptions. So, yes, this book is full of back and forth and hot and cold, but oh does Clayton make it sooooo good!!!!

 

Cade is out for revenge, and he doesn’t care how he gets it, but Lennon has put an obstacle in his path, without even really knowing it. Cade knows he shouldn’t want her, but he can’t seem to help himself. Something keeps pulling him towards her like a magnet, and there isn’t anything he can do to stop it. Oh yes, he does try to! At every turn, he runs hot and cold with her. He either seems to be kissing her or insulting her, taking away any chance he may have with her. 

 

“She’s nothing but a stuck-up, spoiled trust fund brat with a serious attitude problem. She just also happens to be the one to set my soul on fire.” ~Cade~

 

Lennon is always mad at him, and who could blame her. Like Cade, she knows better than to get involved with him, again, like Cade, she can’t seem to stay away. She is drawn to him, and she wants him to only see her.

The chemistry and romance aren’t the only elements that make Clayton’s books so amazing. It’s just the way she tells a story! With every book, I have seen the same characters. With each book, she shows them in a different perspective. For example, Lennon has always been one of my favorite secondary characters. I knew she was sweet and could be sassy. However, when it was time to tell her own story, I got to see her in an entirely different light. I LOVE THAT! That is what Clayton does with each and every character. I discover I like a someone who plays a secondary role, and I can’t wait for them to get their own book. With that said, Kelsey, I’m crossing my fingers that Colby wants to tell us his story too!!!!

Anna B. Doe has crafted a beautiful, emotional read with Kiss to Conquer. I was mesmerized from the very first pages! 

Callie and Hayden knew each other back in high school, but the past tore them apart before they really ever had a chance to begin anything. It ended with Callie having major regrets and Hayden hating the girl who once held his heart. 

Fast forward years later, and these two will meet again. As you can imagine, it isn’t something either expected or even want. When old feelings emerge, things get even more complicated. 

Callie has come to Blairwood University hoping to begin her life again after she was involved in a devastating accident that took everything she held dear away. She is nothing like the girl Hayden knew, not by a long shot. Loss changed her in ways he could never imagine. To be fair to him, she wasn’t the most likeable person in high school as I saw in the flashbacks to their teen years. She was pretty self-centered, selfish, and cared about the trivial things in life…popularity. I like her much better now. 

Hayden has changed as well. It was almost like they switched personalities in a sense. He is now the most popular person on campus, and she shuns all attention. Although, Hayden wasn’t as self-centered as Callie was. Much of Hayden’s attitude is because of his painful past. I could definitely understand his dislike for Callie. Because of his good heart, he is able to forgive her for her past mistakes. 

Callie doesn’t believe she deserves a good life. She can’t seem to forgive herself for her past. With Hayden back in her life, she thinks happiness might just be a possibility. 

“But over time I accepted my destiny. Accepted the life I was forced to live without people I loved the most in it. But  I never started to dream again. Until now. Hayden…he makes me want to dream again. He makes me want to have a different future. Believe I can actually deserve it.”

Both Callie and Hendrix deserve all the happiness in the world, but it will NOT be easy. It seems life just keeps throwing them curveballs. They will have to fight for their HEA, and it will take both of them to do it!!! 

This is such a beautiful, emotional romance with some twists. Through this couple, Doe showed her readers that the past doesn’t have to define you.  I couldn’t help falling in love with Hendrix and Callie!!!!
