One Little Lie by Whitney Barbetti

Genre: New Adult

Designer: Najla Qamber Designs

Blurb:

Adam Oliver hated me. Loathed my very existence. He had every right to, but that didn’t make my life any easier the afternoon I had to rescue him on the side of the road.

But worse than rescuing a guy who hated me to his core was the lie I told my parents.

Because I’d just told them that my long-term boyfriend was finally back in town.

My long-term boyfriend who didn’t actually exist.

The one named Adam Oliver—the guy I’d crushed on all through high school.

So the real Adam had no idea that he and I were engaged in a years-long, committed, serious relationship.

And, somehow, some way, I needed to convince him to play along with my one little lie.

4 STARS

This is my first read by this author and I really liked it. While I have heard lots about her over the past few years, this blurb finally made me take the leap. The story starts off a little slow for me but once the story got going, I was hooked.
Hollis has had a crush on Adam for a long time even though he has never seemed to like her and now that high school is nearly over, she tries to make a connection with him at a party. She is finally breaking through the wall between them when an incident happens and Adam is back to hating Hollis. A few years later, Hollis is feeling pressure from her parents to get serious with someone and start looking towards marriage. One little lie later, Hollis needs help from Adam who is back in town after leaving right after graduation. She is able to convince him to help her but how much is that one little lie going to cost her? Will she ever be able to make Adam see she is not the enemy he believes her to be?
I really liked both characters and could see how the misunderstandings between them could happen. However, I was at times frustrated with Adam’s expectations of Hollis. I liked the ending and will definitely continue with this series with other characters to hopefully revisit Adam and Hollis to see what the future holds for them. Overall a great read and I look forward to reading more from this author!

The Unlikely Life of Maisie Meadows

Synopsis

When Maisie Meadows finds herself single and jobless on New Year’s Day, she resolves that this will be the year she focuses on bringing her scattered family back together. Romance is all very well, but it’s the people you grew up with that matter the most.

But a new job working at an auction house puts her in the path of Theo, a gorgeous but unattainable man who she can’t help but be distracted by. As their bond begins to grow, Maisie finds herself struggling to fulfill the promise she made to herself – but the universe has other ideas, and it’s not long before the Meadows family are thrown back together in the most unlikely of circumstances…

Can dealing with other people’s treasures help Maisie to let go of the past, and teach her who she ought to treasure the most?

The Unlikely Life of Maisie Meadows is a delight to read!!!!

Maisie suddenly finds herself without a job after catching her ex with the new girl! She finds a new job in the auction house, Gildersleeves. She has no idea how this new job will change her life. In addition to the new job, she decides she wants to bring her dysfunctional family back together. Along the way, she will learn what family truly means and possibly find a new love.

Theo is her boss, and as they spend more time together, they grow closer and love may be on the horizon. He is just one surprise that destiny has in store for Maisie. As the title suggests, it’s a life journey she had never expected.

Not only is the book about Maisie, but it’s also about the secondary characters, such as Arthur, Johnny, and Theo, as well as Maisie’s family. Each has their own story to tell, but it never takes away from the book as a whole.

She will learn how complicated family can be, such as “their virtues and their weaknesses.” It will make her see how imperfect yet perfect families really are. It has a little bit of magic in the form of a teapot, with lots of love throughout. This is an enjoyable book that will bring a smile to your face and warmth to your heart!

Christie’s Review

4.5 STARS

Singles, Set, and Match is a perfect read for the summer!!!!

This is the fifth and last book in the Singles Series. It takes place in two beautiful settings, Ibiza and then, Antigua. This is mostly Eve’s story. At times, it is told in varying points of view. In other novels, that doesn’t quite work, but Spires does a great job of making it work in this one. She gives us a glimpse of the other characters’ lives. Again, this is really Eve and Melv’s story.

Eve was a great character. She has always been in love with Melv…for decades really. However, their HEA wasn’t in the cards for them. Yet, they have stayed in touch with one another, and the love has never really died. She takes what life gave her, and she moves on. She has her weak moments; however, she remains strong and focuses on the good things life has given her…a son, a great daughter-in-law, and being a grandmother. When she receives some tragic news, she finds herself in Antigua with Melv. This may be the chance for them to finally have their HEA.

The book is filled with great secondary characters who do have their own stories to tell, yet it doesn’t take away from Eve’s. The settings are just beautiful which makes it the perfect beach read. There are some light moments but also some heavier ones as well, especially concerning Eve’s and Melv’s pasts. There are some secrets as well which makes the book even better. Reading this book was a great way to spend a hot, summer day!

Le Tour de Love

Synopsis

“…the opportunity of a lifetime.”

When physiotherapist Molly Matthews is offered a dream job by a guy who shaves his legs and has an obsession with his bicycle, she has serious doubts about accepting. But, as she keeps telling herself, it’s the opportunity of a lifetime and she’ll never get another chance like this. So, she does what anyone in her position would do – she agrees to join a professional cycling team for the most prestigious race in the cycling world – The Tour de France. The reality, though, isn’t exactly what she had anticipated; instead of eating out at restaurants in pretty French villages and spending her free time lounging around the hotel pool, Molly finds herself living out of a suitcase for three weeks, massaging eight pairs of sweaty legs, administering ice baths and treating saddle sores. And neither did she anticipate falling for a gorgeous, passionate, professional rider by the name of Alexander Duvall…

Fall in love with France with this glorious summer read!

Christie’s Review

4 STARS

I can add this enjoyable book to my list of great summer reads!!!!

I got to travel to France and watch a great couple fall in love…that was a win-win situation for me! Molly is a physiotherapist who is very talented in what she does. When new patient, Alex, walks in, she has no idea how much he will change her life. He offers her a dream job she can’t refuse. She will get the opportunity to travel the world as part of Alex’s professional cycling team. Her first stop is The Tour de France!

Molly and Alex have no intention of falling in love. Molly has her career and life back home. Alex doesn’t have time for a relationship. He needs to focus all of his attention on cycling. Yet, the two manage to do what they said they wouldn’t…fall in love. The road to happiness won’t be easy, especially when others intervene.

This is just a great romance. Yes, it happens over a shorter amount of time, yet it feels so right. They don’t rush into anything physical, but they connect in such a deep way that just made my heart melt.

Molly and Alex are both such great characters. Each of them have their own careers and independence yet they respect each other, and I loved the friendship that developed between them as well. It was a great foundation to a great romance.

If you are looking for a great summer read, you can’t go wrong with this one!!!!

Lilac spends all her time writing, or reading, or thinking about writing or reading, often to the detriment of her day job, her family, and the housework. She apologises to her employer and her loved ones, but the house will simply have to deal with it!

She calls Worcester home, though she would prefer to call somewhere hot and sunny home, somewhere with a beach and cocktails and endless opportunities for snoozing in the sun…

When she isn’t hunched over a computer or dreaming about foreign shores, she enjoys creating strange, inedible dishes in the kitchen, accusing her daughter of stealing (she meant to say “borrowing”) her clothes, and fighting with her husband over whose turn it is to empty the dishwasher.

Add a heading (1)

Foxglove Farm returns readers to Love Heart Lane, and I was so happy to be back, catching up with some of my favorite characters whom have become like family to me!

Isla and Drew have always appeared to have a charmed life. They have been in love forever. They have beautiful children and a beautiful home. However, they have hit quite a bump in the road. Isla is a new mom, and she is sleep deprived. She is adjusting to having two children, and her adventure-loving grandmother, Martha, has returned. Then, Drew is acting completely out of the ordinary, snapping at her over little things. On top of that, she discovers he is keeping a secret… they are in danger of losing their beloved home if they don’t find a miracle to save it. Just when things couldn’t possibly get any worse, they do. This is when the story gets really good!

Barlow does an amazing job of making this so much more than just a book about a struggling marriage. It is a book about a community coming together to help one another. It is a little village I would love to be a part of!!!!

While I loved watching Drew and Isla finding their way back to one another, I loved watching them discover new things about each other and coming to respect and support each other as well.

As with the first book, I thoroughly enjoyed seeing the other characters as well. Martha, Isla’s grandmother, was hysterical. I want to be her when I grow up! It looks like Polly and Rona’s love lives are coming along! If you love a good heartwarming book about friendship, love, and what it means to be a part of a community, then this book is for you!!!!
