New Review: Sweet Spot by Rebecca Jenshak

Sweet Spot by Rebecca Jenshak is LIVE and FREE in KU!

A hot-headed college golfer falls for her swing coach in this fun and sexy sports romance.

Lincoln Reeves may be a pro golfer and revered swing coach, but when I meet him, he is just one more person telling me I’m not good enough.
So, I do what any girl in my position would do. I tell him to get lost and take his arrogant, annoying smirk with him. I never expect to see him again. I certainly don’t expect to run into him that same night after one too many tequila shots.
Turns out that he’s kind of a big deal. Okay, fine, a really big deal. In fact, he might be the one person who can take my game to the next level.
Convincing him to help will be difficult.
Not throwing my club at his handsome face when he makes me work harder than I thought humanly possible will be excruciating.
But not falling for him will be the hardest thing of all.

What a great slow burn, age-gap sports romance!!!!

I’m a huge fan of sports romance, and I fell in love with this one. It had a great plot, great characters, and the romance struck the perfect combination of sweet and sexy!

Keira is a talented athlete, but her college golf coach doesn’t see it. He just wants results and is only too happy to reap the attention when his athletes are performing well. When Keira doesn’t perform like her coach wants, he ignores her. Enter Lincoln Reeves…a pro golfer and well-respected swing coach. He offers her some advice…only she sees it as criticism. Some misunderstandings ensue, but once those are resolved, Lincoln becomes the one who can take her on to the next level. It is clear from the beginning these two have some intense chemistry. The line between coach and athlete begins to blur…..

I really thought the plot was great and was fast moving even though the romance was a slow burn one. This was one of those books that I was able to finish in one sitting!!! Part of the reason it was such a great read was because of the characters of Keira and Lincoln. I loved the fact that it wasn’t only the male that was the athlete….it was the female. Keira was so relatable. She was incredibly talented, but she dealt with some self-confidence issues, no thanks to her jerk college coach. Lincoln was so supportive of her, and he never cared that she was in the spotlight. His pride leapt off the pages.

Like I said, this was a slow-burn romance. The chemistry was there, but there were some things working against them….their age gap. However, they were so similar that I forgot about it unless it was referenced in the book. Lincoln was wary of romance because of his work life. He was driven to make his business a success, and I liked that Keira was showing him to have more of a balance. Like I said, these two were perfect together.

I have read Rebecca Jenshak before, and she just keeps getting better with each book. On a side note, Lincoln’s grandmother could have her own book! What a character!!!!

New Review: Coach Me by Shanora Williams

Release Date: May 14

When I met Amber Lakes, I had no idea that she’d become a shining star in my dark, miserable life.

Her smile was never supposed to warm my heart, and the sight of her tears was never supposed to make me want to hunt down the person who’d caused them.

We were never supposed to touch, or kiss, or do so many dirty things on campus that I knew could jeopardize my career…

None of it was supposed to happen because she’s the student—my athlete—and I’m her college track coach.

I could lose everything by being with her, but I’ve fallen too damn hard, and despite how big the risks are, it’s too late to turn back now.

Coach Me by Shanora Williams was an emotional and sexy read!!!! It was one of those books that I was able to finish in one sitting.

Amber and Joaquin were a dynamic couple, although on the surface, I wouldn’t put them together. Two glaring reasons…he is older than her, and he is her track coach. Thank goodness, I was completely wrong. The two of them actually have quite a great deal in common. Amber comes to an Ivy League school on scholarship as the phenom track star, but what she gets is the opposite of star treatment. She gets ignorance, intolerance, and meanness because she is the only black girl on the track team. Joaquin has dealt with the same issues growing up and as an adult as well. This cements the bond they form.

Both of them are determined and strong. In the beginning, Amber is shocked and her spirit is broken down because of the treatment she receives from some of her teammates, but not all of them. She actually meets some pretty amazing girls Joaquin is instrumental in getting her to stay. The way in which this young girl deals with it is mature beyond her years. She is a class act.

Their love story is full of angst, major steam, but is also really sweet. Joaquin was the best. He always put Amber’s needs first, and he was just so unselfish. Despite their age differences and the forbidden romance, the two worked together perfectly.

I am a first time reader to Shanora Williams, and I’m IMPRESSED!!! She definitely knows how to write a wonderfully, addictive story. I liked the fact that this wasn’t just a romance. The story of discrimination is as old as time, but it is still relevant today, and she addresses with such wonderful emotion, sensitivity, and class. I can’t wait to read more from this very talented writer!!!!

New Review: Looking to Score by CoraLee June & Carrie Gray

🔥🔥 HOT NEW RELEASE 🔥🔥

Looking to Score by CoraLee June and Carrie Gray is LIVE and FREE with KU!

Looking to Score is like the book equivalent of comfort food- goes down easy and leaves you feeling full and content. This book is funny, charming, heart-warming, insanely clever, and JUST what we need. I simply LOVED it and could not put it down.” ~The Romantic Rush Blog

He’s like literally the worst.

Oakley Davis is the star running back at our University, and the reason I’ve broken my vow to avoid the college party scene. Thanks to a mixup with my advisor, I’m now serving my Public Relations internship as a glorified babysitter to the party-hard football players.

Specifically, Oakley.

He’s impossible to manage. His Instagram is full of half-naked, drunk photos and he’d rather attend parties than practice. His brand needs some serious work, and when he’s not driving me insane, he’s sleeping his way through the entire female population.

But I’m determined. I have plans to graduate a semester early and nothing or no one will get in my way. I’m a Virgo, after all. Oakley Davis might be a privileged, cocky, football star, but I’m Amanda Matthews; and I’ll do whatever it takes to get my A.

I have to make sure I don’t end up falling in love with the idiot, first.

Christie’s Review

5 STARS

Oh my gosh…this is an addicting read!!! I spent another late night finishing another great book! Not only was it a fantastic romance full of chemistry and swoonworthy moments, it was also a story about second chances and learning from your mistakes.

“We can’t give our mistakes all our energy forever.” ~Amanda’s  mother~

Amanda has worked hard the past year to make changes to her life, and she is determined to get her A, her internship, and finish college early. Too bad the internship she was hoping for fell through and now she is stuck with Oakley Davis, the running back for the football team and a local celebrity. He is also trouble with a capital “T.” It  will take everything she has to clean up his image.

Oakley was a man you noticed whenever you walked into the room. He commanded it.

“It wasn’t his signature dark hair or the way he towered over everyone else that made him stand out–though his classically handsome appearance helped–it was his very essence, his energy. He had this carefree power about him that was intoxicating to watch.” ~Amanda~

Despite the charisma and good looks, he also had a huge ego. The way girls fell all over him just fanned that flame. Amanda is determined not to fall under his spell, despite the butterflies he gives her. She has a job to do, and she plans on doing it! As she gets to know a softer side to him, her job becomes even harder. In addition to his sex appeal and sense of humor, she discovers he is also an expert flower arranger….who in the world could resist that?????

When Oakley first sees Amanda, he isn’t impressed, especially when she takes over all of his social media accounts. He sees her as uptight with no idea of what fun is! The way he pushes her buttons had me laughing hysterically!!! She realizes that there is more to Oakley than meets the eye, and he realizes she does have a heart beating in that uptight body. I enjoyed watching them become friends as they fell in love with each other.

Both of them have made mistakes in their past, and each is doing what they can to learn from it and move forward. Oakley showed Amanda that she is a worthy person, beautiful both inside and out, and he helped her find self-confidence in herself. He also helped her relax and find the fun in life again. In turn, she showed him that she loved him because of who he was as a person, not the star football player. It was one of those books that just made me sigh in delight when I finished the last page.

These two writers are new to me, and I am so glad I discovered them. I can’t wait to read more from the both of them.

I have always loved to read. In kindergarten, I was the weird kid sitting in the reading nook by myself instead of trying to get more snacks. I’m excited to be putting my own voice on the page and watching a story I helped create come to life. I still love to read, but I also really like snacks.

I grew up in Chicago but recently moved back to the Dallas area where I live with my husband and son.

I have my Bachelor of Science in Biology. I spent a year researching chimpanzees and gorillas while I was in Chicago and then I spent another two months on a chimpanzee sanctuary trying to convince headstrong chimps to cooperate. Pro tip – grapes are a pretty hot bargaining tool. They work wonders with my toddler too.

About the Book

He’s growly. Grumpy. Stubborn.

And now, my new roommate.

Walking away from my disastrous last relationship was an easy decision, but moving in with a friend-of-a-friend hockey star who’s rarely home? Not quite as simple, because Grant makes me feel things even I don’t understand.

One thing’s for certain, though. I definitely shouldn’t have crawled into his bed that night.

  • • •

There’s a brightness to her eyes I can’t seem to look away from.

She’s beautiful. Smart. Tempting.

And a little fragile.

I’ve never been anyone’s knight in shining armor, but when Ana needed a place to stay, it was easy to move her in with me.

Not so simple, though, is keeping my hands—or my mouth—to myself. And the night she crawls into my bed and shares her body with me has me conjuring up all kinds of ideas about our future.

Until a big surprise I never saw coming changes everything.

5 STARS

I’m completely addicted to this series, and this one is my favorite so far….lots of surprises I wasn’t expecting….but good ones!!!!

I love that each one of the guys gets the chance to tell their story, and it’s now Grant’s turn. He is the quieter, older captain. Some would call him distant, stubborn, and grumpy. Boy, those people don’t have a clue what a man he is. He is drop dead gorgeous, and  he is also a giant. Yet underneath all of that is a gentle, loving soul just waiting to find its soulmate. He will find her in the most unexpected way.

Ana is the girlfriend of one of the newest teammates. Let’s just say he isn’t the nicest person, and Grant witnesses that one night. He rescues her and gives her his number in case she ever needs him. He really doesn’t expect her to use it, but she does. She needs help in the most desperate way, and he comes riding in like a knight in shining armor…even if he isn’t the typical “hero.”

The two become platonic roommates. He is just giving her a place to stay. I loved watching these two open up to one another, and they become such great friends. Yet, there is that crackle of electricity between them. One night the lines become blurred and nothing will be the same.

Even though Grant isn’t sure a relationship is for him, I love that he is all in with Ana. She really doesn’t want to go straight into another relationship after her ex. I can’t blame her. Ryan touches on the serious subject of domestic abuse without delving too deeply. She definitely knows the fragile state victims are in. I liked that she gave Ana the time she needed to discover who she was. Yes, Grant was the hero, but so was Ana. She was able to put herself back together again. They were a fantastic couple!!!!

Ryan is an expert at combining sweet and sexy! She can also craft a story that touches on serious subjects yet give you moments that make you laugh! They are always swoonworthy and leave me with such a warm feeling in my heart and butterflies in my stomach!!!! With this one, she has some surprises in store for you too!!! Another winner!!!!!

If you like sexy, confident men who know how to handle a stick (on and off the ice), and smart women who are strong enough to keep all those big egos in check, this series of athlete romances is perfect for you!

The Ninth Inning, an all-new standalone sports romance from New York Times bestselling author J. Sterling, is available now!

20191203_120503

Cole Anders is in his last season at Fullton State. If he doesn’t get drafted this year, he’ll be forced to hang up his cleats for good. It’s not something he’s ready to do.

To prove he’s serious about his final season, he’s given up girls. No more casual hookups, dates or one-night stands. But there’s one girl who has always refused to give up on him. One girl who has been there since the start of Freshman year. One girl he stupidly assumed would always be waiting for him when he got off the field, no matter how long it took.

Christina’s had enough of Cole pushing her aside for baseball. She’s grown tired of waiting for him to see what she’s known since they were freshmen… that they are good together. She’s finally moved on- for good this time.

Cole has other ideas, but she refuses to cave. It’s not her problem if he wants her now. Too little too late.

There comes a point in your life when you have to stop the incessant merry-go-round and just get off the ride, right? Try telling that to Cole.

My goal is to write books that you can get lost in and stories that will leave you with a smile and a full heart. If you can forget about the real world while you’re reading and fall in love with my characters, then I’ve done my job. A lot of what I write has real life aspects in it, but that’s what makes the stories so relatable- the fact that they could happen to anyone… and have!

I live in California with my son, Blake. If you can’t find me sitting behind a computer screen, then there’s a good chance I’m sitting in the bleachers of a baseball stadium watching him play. I love traveling to new places, meeting my readers and spending time with the love of my life, my very own second chance romance, who inspires me daily.

I know you have a million books to choose from and I am humbled, grateful and thankful each time you choose to read one of mine, or tell someone else to read them. Thank you.

Surprised by Lisa turning up unannounced in Alabama, AJ is under pressure to deal with the issue at hand. Should he risk losing her, come clean and tell her the truth? Or should he try to keep his secret under wraps?

Will true love win out? Or will AJ’s secret be too much for Lisa to bear?

Christie’s Review

4 STARS

I just finished the Lisa Millar series last year, and I was a huge fan. Now, we have in our hands the story told from AJ’s POV. I knew their love story and the twists and turns involved. It was nice to experience it from AJ’s perspective.

AJ and Lisa are a perfect match even if she lives across the ocean. However, AJ is hiding a secret, and it’s a big one! If you read the first series, you already know what the secret is. I like seeing it from his POV. I was quite mad at him in the Lisa Millar series, but seeing him in this book makes me have some sympathy for him. There is no doubt in my mind that he loves Lisa, but the timing of their relationship didn’t exactly happen at the right time. Again, that factor made me really feel for him and his predicament.

I also got to see a more in-depth look into his personality and what made him tick. Yes, he made mistakes, but I definitely wasn’t as mad at him for those in this book as I was in the previous series. I’m really looking forward to reading more in the series and getting both sides of their story!

CloseToMe AMAZON.jpg

Close to Me, a New Adult romance by New York Times and USA Today bestselling author, Monica Murphy.

Asher Davis. My first crush.

My first kiss.

The boy who ripped my heart out of my chest again and again. Over and over. I let him have it every single time.

Willingly.

We are that toxic high school couple you hear about, the one you witness in the hallway as they avoid each other. You laugh at them in class when they’re forced to work together, their gazes full of hatred. We are the couple you gossip about when they win homecoming prince and princess their sophomore year…

The back and forth is what kills me the most. I’m not his princess, I’m the girl he toys with when he’s bored. And he’s definitely not my prince, no matter how badly I want him to be.

Finally it’s our senior year and we’re months away from never having to see each other again when disaster strikes—and brings us closer together. All it takes is one touch, and I’m burning for Ash. Hotter than I ever have.

But will that burn turn into a devastating fire? Or can we actually make it work this time?

All-Time Favorite Read

A Top Read in 2020

A Top Read in Coming of Age Romance

I have long been a fan of Monica Murphy ever since reading One Week Girlfriend, so I was super excited to discover this would be about Fable and Drew’s daughter, Autumn! Murphy far exceeded my expectations.

Close to Me is a story filled with lots of angst and drama. Asher Davis was Autumn’s first crush, her first kiss, and her first heartbreak. Whenever he is around her, he tends to bring out all of her insecurities yet he makes her heart race. She thinks he enjoys toying with her feelings, but what she doesn’t realize, is that this boy doesn’t know how to express his feelings for her. She does things to him he can’t explain. After a lot of push and pull between them, they agree to just avoid one another. That works for awhile until something happens that will force them together. They come to a brand new understanding about each other, but will it be enough to last forever?

Murphy uses angst and drama quite unlike any other author, always to her advantage, and always making the storyline even better. In other books I have read, some writers overdo the angst, and it completely overwhelms the story itself. Murphy knows just how much of that push and pull to use, and it worked beautifully between Asher and Autumn.

I quite like how Murphy also wrote the book from several POVS. It was mostly told in Autumn’s voice. However, she used Asher in several chapters, as well as Fable and Drew. Through Drew, readers learn how deeply he loves his family and what a huge heart he has. He spotted something special in Asher and didn’t let him down. Fable has a background so similar to Asher’s that she understands him to a certain extent. She is one of his biggest cheerleaders.

Autumn is such a special girl. She is smart, intelligent, and pretty independent. She isn’t afraid to stand up to Asher, which he loves by the way. Despite being from a family who has a lot of money, she realizes how fortunate she is. She never judges those from different backgrounds. Her biggest weakness is Asher!

When readers hear Asher’s voice, they get a glimpse into this beautiful boy’s mind and heart. He adores Autumn, but he feels like he would never be good enough for her. He hasn’t always made the best decisions, but he had to in order to survive. Despite his smart mouth and attitude, I couldn’t help but love him.

I loved catching up with Fable and Drew and seeing all their children. They are great parents, the perfect combination of strict and loving, always wanting their children to work towards their goals and succeed, much like we all do as parents.

This was just a wonderfully beautiful, emotional read full of the feels. The ending couldn’t have been better. It is just the beginning for this young couple. The two are just starting their own journeys. I’m looking forward to the next book in the series which is Jake’s story, Autumn’s younger brother.

Excerpt:

“Do friends give each other hugs? The friends I have do. Sometimes.”

“There is no way I’m hugging you.” I roll my eyes.

“A truce hug then? Come on.” He lets go of the door handle and faces me fully, stretching his arms out in invitation. “I’ll leave you alone after this, okay? I promise.”

I’m not sure if he’s the type who keeps his promises. I’m guessing no.

This could be the last time I hug him. This entire encounter has been weird. Confusing. We’re a mess. We would never work, and us going ’round and ’round in circles tonight just proves that.

So what’s the harm in getting one last hug from Ash? It’s just a hug. A brief moment of bodily contact and then I’ll send him away. He won’t bug me again. He’ll get over his so-called feelings for me. He’ll give his heart to someone else or even better, he’ll discover he actually has one, and he’ll forget all about me. He’ll give it to someone else, and he’ll finally leave me alone forever.

Why does that thought make me feel so empty inside?

Deciding it’s do or die time, I walk right into his hug, my arms sliding around his waist, my head resting on his chest. I can feel the steady thump-thump of his heartbeat and I close my eyes when his arms come around me. Slowly. Enfolding me into his body so that we’re snug tight.

He holds me with a desperation, almost as if he’s afraid to let me go, and when I lift my head, tilting it back so I can stare into his eyes, I find he’s already watching me.

“Friends don’t make each other feel like this,” he says, his voice a gravelly whisper.

The hairs on the back of my neck rise. “Feel like what?”

“Like you could be my everything.”

My shoulders sag. “Ash—”

“Stop talking.” He presses two fingers to my lips, silencing me. When he’s seemingly assured I won’t speak, he lightens the pressure, gently caressing my lips. Back and forth. Making me tingle.

Making me want him to do more than touch my mouth.

I want him to kiss me.

“You have the sexiest lips,” he murmurs, and the blush returns, setting my face on fire. No one has referred to me as sexy before. “What we’re doing is fucking crazy. You know this right, Callahan?”

I ignore his question. “How could I be your everything when you told me you don’t know how to feel?”

“The only time I seem to feel is when…” He presses his fingers into the corner of my mouth, so gentle, I could almost think he never actually touched me. “I’m with you.”

About the Book:

A stoic force to be reckoned with.
The steady rock on which England is destined to lean.
Everyone’s reliable mate, at the ready to defend when called upon.

To the world, Vance Morley is the next great keeper for the Rogue Football Club, biding his time at the academy. The definition of tall, dark and handsome, his quiet confidence and mysterious persona only draw the public in. He’s their mighty anchor, both on and off the pitch.

But when it comes to the one woman he claims to love, he conveniently vanishes at the exact moment I need him. The first time I saw Vance, he was a ten-year-old standing on his lawn across the street. The first time he kissed me, we were sixteen and sitting on the very shores we grew up on. We crashed into each other like waves in a storm, fated to destroy everything in our paths. Including each other.

The first time Vance saw our son, by serendipitous accident, my little boy had already lived the first year of his life. And instantly, the man who chose football over me wants to have it all. There is no way I can trust his declarations of love and fatherhood, especially when I’m set to marry another man.

We’re a new game, one to occupy him until the world stage beckons. But the more I try to tell myself he’s not the one, the more Vance’s efforts to win us back increase.

How can I guard my heart against seeing my son with his father?
Can Vance really sacrifice his dreams in the name of love and family?
Is there a way that everyone else’s safe harbor can finally become mine too?

Book Blurb:

Reese

I’m done.

Getting ditched at the altar is nothing compared to being humiliated there in front of three hundred shocked guests. Apparently I’m no good at spotting the signs your man’s a cheating liar. So I set off solo on my honeymoon to Hawaii, where I realize I’ve got this life thing down just fine on my own.

Friendships and laughter? Yes.

Adventures? Absolutely.

But relationships? Hell no. Never again.

Knox

I’m a man of few words. My reputation as a moody prick is deserved, but only the handful of people who really know me see the man beneath the professional mask.

I’m a protector. A warrior. That part is true. But the world doesn’t get to see the rest of me. And women don’t seem to mind my gruff exterior—my bed’s always warm.

I’m content with life—loving it, even—or so I thought. But when I meet a beautiful pastry chef with a broken heart and a smile that softens me down to my soul, I realize I wasn’t really content at all before her.

I only wish I had the words to let her know.

EXCERPT:

Mrs. Eric Darnell. I’ve practiced saying it and writing it, but it still doesn’t feel real. There’s a part of me that’s still scared, but this is the right thing. After nine years together, where else can our relationship go?

At the sound of a sniffle, I turn to my maid of honor, my best friend Mandy, who’s already crying. I never knew her to be a softie. The ceremony hasn’t really even started yet. She takes a tissue out from around her bouquet and wipes the corners of her eyes.

“Before we begin the ceremony, let us pray,” the pastor says.

“Hang on,” Eric blurts out.

Did he just say hang on as our wedding ceremony was about to start? My heart skips several beats as I look around to see what’s going on. Is there a medical emergency? Why else would Eric go off script?

The pastor and I both stare at him as he closes his eyes and grimaces.

“I’m sorry,” he says, sighing as he opens his eyes and lets go of my hands.

As my hands drop to my sides, an icy shiver zips down my spine. He let go. I only asked him for one thing when we talked on the phone this morning, honoring the tradition of not seeing each other on our wedding day. Hold onto my hands the entire time.

The church is still, everyone seeming to hold their breath as they wait for Eric to speak. My heart races and my hands start to shake as I realize something’s not right here. There’s no medical emergency.

“Reese.” Eric’s tone is both apologetic and pleading. “I need to tell you something. I want to go into this marriage with a clean conscience.”

I swallow back the bile that rises in my throat. This can’t be happening. In all my worst-case scenarios about what could go wrong on my wedding day, I never imagined this.

I worried I’d be having a heavy period today. That I’d trip on my way down the aisle and face plant in front of everyone. Or that the last week of stress eating would catch up with me and my dress wouldn’t zip up.

But this? Never this.

Eric lets out a shaky breath and says, “Please forgive me. I did something so stupid.”

Mandy’s crying intensifies. I feel like I could pass out at any second.

“Uh…” the pastor looks between me and Eric. “Do you two want to step out for a moment?”

“What did you do?” I ask Eric, my voice nearly a whisper.

The sound and scent of the ocean has vanished. I can only feel my racing heart and a creeping sense of complete dread.

“So now it was stupid?” Mandy demands loudly. “Eight months together and you’re saying it was a mistake?”

The guests collectively gasp.

As it sets in, I’m too stunned to even breathe. Eric. Fucked. Mandy. A lot.

My bouquet falls to the ground, making a whooshing sound as it hits. My breathing is more of a pant now, an angry, breathy pant with a growl now surfacing.
